Like many people, I was thinking of hiring a professional organizer/de-clutterer aka "wonder person". I finally realized that I was not getting anywhere on my own, summoned up the courage to look on Angie's List, went with my instincts and decided to call Fern from Gifts of Order LLC. Fern was beyond wonderful! She was very polite, professional and is a "rock star" of de-clutterers/organizers as far as I am concerned. I was called back promptly, we chatted twice, she arrived on time and that's when this wonderful dynamo went into action! I gave her a tour of my apartment, showed her what I wanted to accomplish and I also had questions regarding discarding, moving and buying some furniture and she provided wonderful feedback on that. We also talked about things I normally would have not thought about (i.e. items to keep the pigeons from having spring break on my terrace and replacing a bulky ladder with one I could break down, fold and store). We got the bedroom looking wonderful and clutter free. We got the clutter cleared off my bed, things hung up, found a drawer to store extra books/tapes in and got four dresser drawers all sorted out by category and organized beautifully. Fern was also able to give me tips on how to manage keeping things in their same group and showed me how little habits can lead to clutter before you even realize it (i.e. putting bags on the floor by the living room chair, saying to yourself that you'll put it away and then it sits until the next day, etc.) Her tip did work this weekend, actually! I was coming home with two shopping bags as usual and I was on auto pilot and ready to put them next to that living room chair. Then, I remembered Fern said it was a habit and I made myself empty out the bags and put the stuff away. She was right. I actively had to think of doing it and getting it done but, you know what? As soon as I did it, I didn't have to worry. Angie's List Members ... take my advice. If you need an organizer, de-clutterer, call Fern. I promise ... you won't be sorry and you'll be so glad that you made that call.
Description of Work: Helped me clean up clutter in bedroom, organizing dresser drawer contents including clearing clothes and assorted clutter off my bed along with emptying out old boxes with clutter. Also helped me with small cluttered area in the living room. A professional and friendly walk through of the house was conducted to ascertain what was needed for the assignment and helpful comments/suggestions were given.

It was an excellent expereince overall. Fern is very professional and an absolute joy to work with. She makes organizing spaces fun and exciting.
Description of Work: I met with Fern on 8 different occasions. The approximate service date listed was the last time that I met with her. The amount of money spent was a total amount for those 8 separate appointments. I found Fern to be very professional, pleasant and enthusiastic about helping her clients. She definitely knows a lot about organizing spaces and closets. She is also a lot of fun to work with because of her wondeful personality. I would highly recommend Fern to anyone who is serious about organizing their apartment or home.

Fern came in for a consultation with this sort of utility belt (like Batman) that had everything she needed, from Post-Its and pens to a tape measure and label maker. I showed her around, told her what I wanted her help with and we talked about what I do, how I work, what systems were working for me (there were actually a couple!) and what wasn't. When she came back to work, she neatly moved all of the stuff I had thrown all over the floors into the rooms in which the stuff actually belonged. It immediately felt better. Based on what was in each room, she helped me set up filing systems and other organizational systems. On subsequent meetings (this took place over several sessions...did I mention I'm a pack rat?) she'd always ask how things were working for me. If something wasn't working, she always had another suggestion on how to do something. It wasn t just about getting things to look organized now, it was also about giving me ways to keep it organized.
Description of Work: Fern helped me organize everything! I'm a serious pack rat and my apartment looks SO much better and is maintainable. From my office (a nightmare) to all of my closets (disastrous) my kitchen (not horrible, actually), to my bedroom and living room (pretty awful). She helped me devise systems for organizing and filing, recommended some products I could buy that helped tremendously (a different type of hanger, a filing cabinet that held a lot more and didn't take up a ton more space, etc.) She also helped me figure out where to hang some of the pictures I had lying on the floor for over a year. And, I can actually use my desk now!
