A & O Heating and Cooling

The service was okay. He didn't get the message that he got paid, so he charged me twice. He told me the day that he got there that I would have to pay for the service, and then once I paid, then I called Angie's List, and they said they had paid him already, so he sent me a check to reimburse for my double pay. They came out right away within the first week or so after buying the big deal. The price was fair. He seemed to know what he was doing. He is not too quick on responding. They were on time.

The first thing that I liked about A & O is that fact that I was dealing with Al, the owner. I felt that he treated the issue like it was a friend of family member's house and took extra care to check all the little details and confirm that the solution worked. He took my call and told me a time he would arrive which was very accurate. Once he was working on my unit he made sure I knew what was going on and was very professional the entire time. After replacing the fan motor, he checked the unit and cycled it a few times to make sure it would start and turn off. We also let it run for a good amount of time so he could make sure it stayed on and didn't shut down after a few minutes (which is what was happening previously). Al also checked my coolant level and let me know it was a little low but being a 10 year old unit, it wasn't a cause for concern. He charged the unit and let it run hot to make sure pressure and temp levels were where they should be for R-22 freon. What I like most about Al was that he didn't try to upsell or force me into a new unit. My unit is over 15 years old and will need to be replaced in the next few years, but I wanted to get it fixed since we can't afford a new unit right now. He let me know that will proper care and after replacing the fan motor it's realistic for us to get 3 to 5 more seasons out of it which we were thrilled to hear. Not everyone you call is interested in an inexpensive fix that takes a decent amount of time. There is more money in a replacement and that is what they tell you is necessary. The price quote I received was accurate and exactly what it cost even though it took a little more effort than he initially thought due to the old motor being rather rusty. I would certainly recommend A&O to all of my friends and neighbors and will 100% continue to use them for all of my heating and cooling needs.

Went well

I called them out because the unit was not getting really cold. He cleaned and changed the fluid in the unit but it did not help. He was very slow as well. It was not a horrible experience but it wasn't a really good one, it is an old unit so I thought of giving it a try.

The guy who came out was very professional.

Relay board on Goodman furnace failed to feed the ignition on the day after the nor'easter which meant no heat. I called A & O based on Angie's List and spoke with Al immediately. He came promptly and was able to confirm the problem. He found out that it was still under warranty, replaced the board and went off to another job. No fuss and straightforward. Got another job waiting for him in spring. That's how much I like his work.

They did a good job and everything was good.

He was really good. It was the second time that we used him. He came and talked to us. It was actually for a rental property that we own. He was professional. He talked to us away from the tenant. It was a private conversation between him and us. We had concerns if the tenant had messed up. We would go back to him if any issues were to come up again. The guy that came out was good, but we had some little concerns about the back office. This was an emergency situation that came up; so he had to come out there. I don’t really know if the price was reasonable or if we were ripped off. We liked the quality of the time and labor that he put in. He did seem to do a good job. We looked at several companies and they were actually pretty responsive in terms of getting someone out there. He called us once he was there. He seemed to be relatively punctual. It was an emergency call and I guess the price was relatively expensive. The guy who came out was very professional.

They are very prompt and they did the work that they're contracted to do. They also clean up after themselves. They come when they say they will.

On a Tuesday morning, the phone was answered promptly and the service provider arrived within the time frame given (40 minutes). He spent about 2-and-a-half hours at our home, diagnosed the problem and then removed the bird which had become stuck in the motor. Diagnostic fee for visit (quoted on phone) = $79; TOTAL cost for entire visit = $132.

Al was extremely reliable and prompt. He came to my house on a holiday. He tries to make himself available around your schedule. He did a thorough job and his fee is reasonable.
