Services we offer
New roofs. New siding (including product from the James Hardie line). New windows and doors. Solar installation.
I am overall satisfied with the work except couple points. 1) The installation dragged out longer than expected. I signed purchase (not lease) contract in early December 2015 and was expecting it to be done in March. Instead, it was done in the end of April. I didn't receive any status updates unless when I inquired. While I understand the permit process could be out of their control, better communication would had been helpful. 2) The installers are not from George J Kellers & Sons. The contracted the actual installation to someone else. I am neutral about their work. I found nails on the driveway, and I said to the head person please be careful not to leave any nails since I have a baby running around outside. I had to pick up more nails in the afternoon myself. They were ok, not great, not bad. My dealings with GJK after installation has been smooth. They scheduled inspection, and informed me when the meter will be replaced by the utility company. GJK's meter (tied to the solar control panel) broke, and they promptly ordered a new one (although not yet arrived). I rate them A overall.

The company representative, Brandon, looked at our porch roof and spoke with us about what we wanted done. He told us that he would have an estimate for us in a week. After not hearing from anyone we contacted him and he stated that "I will find out in the office why you didn't receive it and make sure it is on its way". When nothing was received again contact was made and nothing but excuses were given. At this time we expressed to them that if they weren't interested simply let us know, no big deal. Again more excuses and promises. All of this has transpired over a three and a half week period and to date we have yet to receive a quote and have moved on with another contractor. BTW, all contact was made by way of texting as they do not seem to like answering their phone nor returning calls. Not the kind of contractor I would do business with.
Description of Work: After coming and looking at the work we needed done they never got back with a price. Gave excuses. Didn't answer phone or return calls.

One of the best and worst parts about Angies List is receiving a negative review from a homeowner. Everyone knows it is terrible news when you receive a negative review, no one wins when it gets to this point. Although, one of the reasons it is a good thing is the negative review will humble you and make you realize no matter how great your systems are there can be cracks. This is one of those instances where my salesman made a mistake, it fell through a crack in the system. He feels terrible about it and has already learned from it. As soon as I read the review I called and apologized to Mrs. [Member Name Removed] for her experience with us.

**PLEASE SEE " What did the provider do" ABOVE: Unfortunately, there was an issue with the composite product which started "cupping" and lifting, to the extent that it was dangerous to walk and especially so after a rain as the water would not drain. I called Dan Keller (son!) who came the next day, saw what had happened and immediately (and I do mean immediately, on the spot) stated we have to correct this. After choosing a different manufacturer and complementing color/texture (the original color was no longer available) he had the entire deck replaced. While the planter boxes did not display the cupping/lifting, they too were re-done. As far as how did it go: Fantastic. The work was performed flawlessly, the same as the initial install and the workmanship was absolutely beyond reproach. The only thing I needed to to was to temporarily remove a fence and gate that I had installed after the initial install, and that was at my request as I had done the fence. The employees of Keller, better described as craftsmen, worked around my fence supports and, while I didn't think this possible, actually improved the appearance from the initial install which was excellent to begin with.
Description of Work: Keller and Sons had installed a composite deck at the rear of my home, matching a similar deck in an enclosed "three season" room adjacent to it. The work performed was extraordinary and not only was is beautifully done, but we received nothing but accolades from friends and family. That work was performed in 2013. I should note, there was significant "custom" work done in the form of planter boxes, steps and trim work that was above and beyond.

Initial start went well with salesman Dan, presentation and documents were clear and detail with related work, but that was the best of my experience with the company. Start of project was a little slow, communication via email and/or telephone is terrible. Initiated credit processing with bank; however, their office never fulfilled their end to complete the transaction, they responded that one of their personnel needed to be released and paperwork was never fulfilled, leading us to re-apply for the loan for the second time. Miscommunication with layout of solar panels with on-site team, correct same with no further discrepancies, ensure work is according to what is discuss over the table. Roofing and Gutters were done very well. After installation of solar panels, received detailes by Dan of someone coming over to the house to takes us step by step with the solar panel software setup and use, never happen... Dan if you're reading this, very unhappy, gave you plenty of time and benefit of the doubt. Interesting after all this I get a final bill of 85.00, for referring someone, mismanagement of my account, and not following thru with final solar panel services.

This work was done when we have a different project manager for roofing and solar. Both project managers are no longer with the company and the job has been taken over by the owner of the company, Dan Keller. This change occurred after [Member Name Removed]'s project. Dan spoke to [Member Name Removed] in August and apologized for the instances he wrote about. He accepted our apology and has since referred neighbors to us.

At the time of the initial engagement (2005), the company was responsive and professional and i thought it was a great price. I don't live in a large home and this was a complete roof replacement. The price was in line with other estimates we received; neither the highest nor the lowest. We would not know there were issues until we started to be hit by heavy rain storms in 2012 and 2013. We started to see leaks in our chimney, culminating with damage to the ceiling in our living room. I immediately contacted George Keller and Sons. I explained that we had an issue and he sent someone out to inspect. He informed us that we had no flashing installed around both of our chimneys. I looked it up online and learned that FLASHING is a CRITICAL component to keep the roof waterproof. I asked GK&S why FLASHING was not installed with the new roof. I was told by GK&S that flashing was "not in my contract". They then sent me a contract/estimate for $2500 to install the flashing that should have been installed the first go around. This happened several years ago, and I finally found a roofer willing to repair this work. When i was pricing this out to several other roofers, they were all very surprised that flashing was not included and stated that it is part of a normal roof install.

Here are the facts of this homeowner: Mr. [removed member name] called us in the fall of 2005 asking for a quote for a new roof. My brother Chris, who is no longer with the company, went to see the homeowner and performed a roof inspection. A quote was given on 11/18/2005 for a new roof with a note at the top of the estimate explaining "our inspection revealed the roof shingles have out lived their warranty and are cracking as well as being very brittle." An option was given to replace a rotted roof section above the side door which included two new 4 x 4 wood posts and trim work. The estimate did not mention the chimney nor the flashing. The [removed member name] signed a contract with us on 1/15/2006 with a deposit given on 1/20/2006. The contract was for both the roof and the repair option. The work was performed about 1-2 weeks after receiving the contract. A permit was pulled for the roof and it passed inspection by the town building inspector. The homeowner then reached out to us in May 2007 asking for a quote to replace all of their windows in the house. I called the homeowner back and spoke to Mrs. [removed member name], at the time of the conversation she explained that she was a previous customer and was happy with the work that was completed. I met with Mrs. [removed member name] on 5/17/2007 and provided a quote to replace all of her windows on 5/29/2007. I followed up with the homeowner on 6/21/2007 but did not get her on the phone and never heard back from her. Mrs. [removed member name] called us on 10/10/2012 explaining there was a leak around her chimney. I met Mrs. [removed member name] on 10/16/2012 to inspect the roof and chimney. The roof was in very good shape but the tar around the chimney looked to be cracking. We dispatched our roofing foreman on 10/18/2012 to inspect and make a temporary repair. Our roofing foreman installed tar around the chimney and recommended new flashing as well as build a cricket behind the chimney. We provided a quote to Mrs. [removed member name] to build a cricket and install new flashing around the chimney for $1,895 on 10/19/2012. Below is the email exchange following us sending the estimate: Mrs. [removed member name] sent the following email on 10/22: Thank you for the estimate. I am concerned that we only had this roof replaced 7 years ago and have to redo the flashing. Is this normal wear and tear? I responded on the same day: Hi [removed member name] - the roof is in great shape, this is from the chimney which we didn't replace the flashing when the roof was done. My sister was going to mail you the old contract to show the chimney was not touched. Mrs [removed member name] response on 10/22: Thanks Dan.... Glad to hear the rest of the roof is in great shape....sorry to hear we did not do this 7 years ago :) When do you think we can schedule the chimney flashing? [removed member name] We sent Mrs. [removed member name] a contract on 10/23/2012 in the amount of $1895. The following email exchange then occurred: On 10/24 Mrs. [removed member name] sent: I am still waiting for a copy of my original contract...is that going to be sent? [removed member name] Before I could respond Mrs. [removed member name] sent on email on 10/25: Never mind, we found it....our filing system needs work This was the last communication we received from the homeowner. We never received the contract back from the homeowner to perform the work. As listed above, the homeowner never stated she thought the price was high. She never stated she expected the chimney work to be done with the roof. She never stated she had other roofers tell her the flashing should have been done. She never stated she did research on the internet about chimney flashing. We performed the work in 2005 and corrected a problem the homeowner was having with their roof, there were no problems with the chimney when we did our initial inspection and there were no problems with the chimney for the 7 years after we did the roof. The chimney went through Hurricane Irene, a major snow storm in the fall of 2011 plus countless rain storms during the 7 years after we did the roof. As for the other roofers saying the flashing should have been done at the time of the roof, these other roofers were not on site during the inspection and did not see what we saw. As noted above, the building inspector passed the work we did on the roof. She also spent too much on the roof as our quote was for $1895 and she had someone do it for $2500.

Upon installing the new vinyl siding their crew did damage without advising us. We discovered they broke a radon pipe, damaged flashing around our sunroom, and damaged the surface of our deck. One of the "sons" was aggressive and argumentative when we brought all this to their attention. They begrudging did the repairs. It was only a year later we were told by a radon specialist that they re-installed the fan upside down, so our system was not functioning properly all that time. When we then also needed Sandy damage repaired, we reluctantly went back to the them. After 5 months and over 6 broken install dates and 30 emails they finally came out. This after they had started and completed 2 other jobs on our street during that 5 months. We could never us them again.

About 3 months after the roof was replaced, we noticed a small leak/bubble in our ceiling. When we called the company back, they came out and realized our skylights didn't have the correct sealing around the windows on the roof. When they fixed that, we continued to have leaks. We ended up paying them an extra $3000 to put in the new skylights so we didn't have to look at the terrible sealing job. We are still having problems, and the company refuses to admit it is their problem or do anything about the leaks. I would not recommend this company and they are very unprofessional!

We highly recommend to all of our customers that have skylights to replace them at the same time as the roof. The original estimate that we provided to the homeowner had a price to replace the skylights. When the homeowner moved to contract they decided not to replace the skylights even though we highly recommended that they be replaced. The explanation they gave to us as to why they did not want to replace the skylights was they wanted to keep the price down since they were selling the home. After the roof was completed the homeowner notified us of a leak in one of the skylights. We attempted to make a repair twice to the skylight but it did not work. We then offered to replace the skylights without paying labor cost to do the work. The homeowner only paid for the cost of the skylight material. Once the skylights were replaced, the leak stopped immediately. The homeowner did have an ice dam over this past winter, but this was not due to the installation of the shingles or skylights. The reason for the ice dam was due to ventilation and insulation issue. We offered to remove the ice and snow from the roof but the homeowner declined this work. We do not guarantee against ice damming, nor does the manufacturer of the ice and water shield. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to keep these areas of the roof free of ice and snow to prevent ice dams from occurring.

Materials were delivered in advance of the arrival of the two man crew. The gutters and fascia board were removed from the house. The fascia flow vent was installed. There were two sections in front of the house that already had soffets, however there was solid wood preventing ventilation. The crew removed the soffets and drilled large holes to allow for ventilation. All gutters were replaced with new gutters. Also, in the front because of a peak, there were two valleys that required kickback flashing. This was overlooked by the crew but was finished at a later day by a different person. The kickback flashing and gutters have worked excellent and the fascia flow vent gives the attic and crawl space much needed ventilation.
Description of Work: George Keller & Sons replaced the fascia board with GAF Fascia Flow vents and replaced the gutters and installed kickback flashing on our house and crawl space.
George J. Keller & Sons, LLC does excellent work, crews are professional, the end-of-day cleanup excellent, however the communication with the office was awful. The contracted work was not completed within the time frame stated. I was told this job would take 2-3 work days barring weather etc. Actual total time to complete this project was about 30 hours over several days. I made a request that all the wood that needed to be painted be delivered early to me so I could have it done when needed. Only some of the wood was delivered. The rest was brought the last day of construction. Leftover wood from a siding project in 2010 was used to cover over the weather sheilded areas The fiberglass covered deck floor was initially painted the wrong color. It was corrected when weather allowed. My rebuilt deck looks great, but I will need to paint in the spring.
Description of Work: After I had George J. Keller & Sons, LLC replace the siding on a wall of my townhouse in 2010, I wanted them to rebuild the roof deck over my garage. Included would be the removal of a small window & a slider door. The space from the door would then be boxed in for installation of a new casement window system in 2015. A second slider door would have to be raised 2" to provide for the pitch of the floor. On the first day of work all this was completed. A snow/ice shield was put over the areas where window & door had been removed. This was contracted to take place between mid-July mid-October 2014. All this went well, but between 11/7/2014 & 1/21/2015. Following a terse email to Keller, claiming Breach of Contract communication began & a new start date was made.

As timing would have it we got our new roof on during the winter so scheduling was tough between cold snaps, but they worked well to coordinate it. Installation happened in a day and a half and they cleaned up very well and when I had a couple of concerns they addressed them and made sure I was satisfied. I am in complete shock at the disrespect this homeowner has for the service I provided for him. The homeowner is correct that the window was first installed in January 2014. He reported a dent in the window on 2/1/14. We responded on 2/5/14 asking if we could come by on 2/7/14 to do a visual inspection of the window. We informed him during the visual inspection that there was nothing we could do for the issue and we would have a representative from the manufacturer come out to do an inspection. The manufacturer met with the homeowner on 2/28/14. The window manufacturer let us know on 3/31/14 that the window could not be fixed and needed to be replaced. We immediately let the homwonder know that a full replacement was necessary. On 4/1/14, the homeowner asked who would be responsible for the cost of the replacement. I personally reached out to the manufacturer to ask who was responsible for the cost. The answer was that it would be the homeowners responsibility because it was not dented during manufacturing, during delivery or during installation. The manufacturer made the determination that the homeowner made the dent in the window. This was conveyed to the homeowner on 4/7/14. The HO then responded on 4/14/14 that the dent was there immediately after the window was installed. It then took me until 6/9/14 to argue my way through the manufacturer and the supplier to get a completely free window for the homeowner. The window was ordered on 6/9/14 and was delivered to the supply house early July. Unfortunately at the same time we lost 2 of our installers and had only one installer working for us until November. I let the homeowner know via email that due to the size and weight of the window my one installer would not be able to do the installation by himself. Once we had enough installers we scheduled the work and the installation went flawlessly. The re-installation of the window was not covered by the manufacturer or supplier therefore we have covered that cost ourselves. While the homeowner waited for the window to be installed, the first window was completely finished and served the homeowner quite well. The dent did not cause any water leakage or air leakage; It was an aesthetic issue only. Two times during this process the homeowner thanked me for the effort I was putting in on his behalf, so to receive this review is very surprising and frustrating. This is the first time the homeowner has conveyed to us that he is not happy with the caulking of the new window. I have reached out to the homeowner to review the caulk but have not heard back yet.

Keller installed a new roof and siding in about 2010. Since then, the roof leaks around the chimney when we get heavy snow and between the house and garage during heavy rain. They did respond to calls about the chimney leak, saying I should get a roof rake. They have not responded to calls about the garage roof. I have given up and am hiring another company to fix the issues.

I just got off the phone with the homeowner and there seemed to be a misunderstanding. We investigated one of the leaks in October and found work that was not part of the original contract was the cause. An estimate to make the necessary repairs. We did make an error in not responding to his last phone call, the person in charge of making that phone call assumed the homeowner had received our estimate and did not need to call back. This employee regrets making that decision. I am meeting with the homeowner on Tuesday to review the work that needs to be done to repair the other leak.

Dan the owner showed up for the estimate and apperaed very punctual, no-nonsense and professional. I was impressed. Sadly, that was the last I saw of those qualities!! After some delay (on my part) in signing the contract, I waited an additional 2 months for George J Keller & Sons LLC to set an approximate date so that I could be home when work was being done. I needed time to adjust my work schedule, and I was not comfortable with major work being done to the house without someone home. Maure, the "customer service contact" is anything but! She provided no service, aswered no emails, returned no phone calls, and answered no questions! I called Dan and he finally called back and told me when they would finally show up. Of course I got another "form letter" from Muare 2 days later that was totally inconsistant with what Dan had said. Eventually I recieved a form letter telling me that the crew would show up the day before Thanksgiving, leave a dumpster in my driveway and start the job. Really?? After I waited 2 months, on the day before a holiday when I am set to have lots of people at the house, you want to start a re-roofing job and leave a dumpster and materials blocking the driveway, then leave it over a long weekend? I asked them to wait one more day and Dan agreed to start on Monday after Thanksgiving. I recieved another formatted letter from the "non-existant" Maure (who still has never responded to any emails or calls) confirming the date and saying that the dumpster and materials would be dropped off over the weekend and the crew would be here by 8 am on Monday. Nothing showed up over the weeked, then I recieved the first non-formatted email from Maurie on Monday an hour after the crew was set to start work and after I had taken the next 3 days off from work, saying that someone got sick, the materials would be delivered later that day, and the crew would be there on Tuesday at 8am. As I write this review, it is now Tuesday at 10:30 am. No crew, no materials, no dumster and no answer on any of their cell phones or return calls from my many messages. Im fed up!! I have now invested 2 days of pay from missed work, and 2 months of waiting for a job that never even got started!! DONT BE FOOLED BY THE APPARENT PROFFESSIONAL IMAGE. ITS ENDS AS SOON AS YOU SIGN THE CONTRACT!!! *******UPDATE******* It is now about 3 months after writing the first review. Shortly after the review above was posted, I finally heard from Dan and he got the ball rolling on the project. He apologized for Maurie and assured me that I would not have to deal with her anymore. I allowed the job to go forward primarily because I didnt want to start n getting estimates all over agiain. Once the job was started, it went smoothly. The roofing job was finished in 1 day and 2 days later a different crew came to intall the gutters. The gutter installers had no idea about the issues I had been having with the existing gutters and planned on reinstalling the exact same thing. I got Dan on the phone, worked things out and yet again had to reschedule because different materials were needed. The job was finally completed and it looks fine, the guys all cleaned up and all of the installers were great. A month after install, following a particularly bad winter, giant icicles formed and were hanging percareously from my new, extra wide gutters, right over my door. I sent Dan a few pictures and by noon the next day, he had one of the managers out to look at the house. He assured me that the gutters were fine, explained why the giant icicles formed and how to prevent it from happening again. This company seems to have been going through some sort of transition and things got out of control. Dan eventually made good on his promises, and was there to stand by his work after the fact.

Our roof was 20 years old and was not leaking, however we were planning on having solar installed and wanted to have a new roof under the panels. We talked to five companies about re-roofing (second layer) and solar leasing. Dan was our salesman from Keller and was fantastic. He was the only person we spoke to who knew we could not install solar panels over a second layer (due to local building codes). The price he quoted for both solar and the roof were lower than anyone else for a better product and a complete tear-off. The work was completed in one day and if you didn't look at the new roof, you would never know they were here. Clean-up was impeccable. Our solar went online in February and the install was almost as painless as the roof. Keller's price per KW for solar beat everyone else's. Once installed, we worked with Matt to get the service up and running with the power utility. After it was activated we had 5 bad inverters which Keller quickly replaced. They were very responsive when the problem arose and Matt communicated with us throughout the process. He spent time explaining the web-based monitoring system and answering my questions. Now we just need some sun.

The service went well. The crew completed the job in about 1 day. They did a good job and were on time. They followed through and were happy to answer any of your questions. They were would do anything we asked. It did take a while to schedule the service because it was right after hurricane Sandy, but they were good at keeping in touch about the service.
Description of Work: I hired the company to install a new roof and some siding.

Although I had some reservations about the way new shingles were installed I did not expect my roof to start leaking within a year. My calls to the company were neither answered nor returned. Took me a while to trace the leak to a badly installed and hastily caulked chimney flushing. I do not recommend this company.
