Every Bad review of this company Every bad review is absolutely true. God I wish I listened to them. It has been an absolute nightmare. I am a disabled Veteran, severly disabled and had to move. I called the Farmingdale N.J. location. They dropped off two POD units with no signed contract. I had some friends help me fill them. PODS came and instead of shipping direct to my new home, they put them in storage at a facility in Farmingdale, N.J., while debiting 250. a month each for 6 mos.. I found that trying to get them released was never going to happen, poor Customer service, and the storage fees were just escalating, I never signed a contract for either, they are in possession of stolen goods. If I could sit in my wheelchair in front of the storage facility in Farmingdale N.J. I would do it to prevent others from this company and their shady practices. DON'T DO IT, there are many othe Companies that are AMERICAN, that will not SPIN you. Sincerely a severly Disabled person. UPDATE*********THEIR RESPONSE IS STILL IRRELEVANT, READ THE COMPLAINT, KNOW CONTRACT NO CUSTOMER ID NUMBER, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!! POOR COMPREHENSION!! SEE WHAT I AM SAYING. I WANT MY PERSONAL ITEMS AND THE CREMATED BODIES OF BOTH MY PARENTS BACK The Kearney Facility is open, seems the Farmingdale Location franchise was revoked. Ashame how this Foreign owned Company treats a disabled US Veteran.

It all went horribly. There was no water on the floor of the POD at the time it was transferred to the supposedly "climate controlled facility". (in late 2013) .When i moved to a new home in November 2015, many of my items such as large sofas, chairs and speakers, were significantly damaged by mold, and there was water on the floor of the POD. After a month, PODS had me hire movers to transfer my moldy items to a new POD so they could perform a "leak test" on the old POD. That test took place in January of 2016. I spent the next four months calling and emailing the "legal department" of PODS (they gave me the contact info of one person, who was the only one handling this claim) to no avail. All my calls and emails were avoided until i contacted another consumer advocacy organization. At that point, I suddenly received an answer, saying the leak test done in January had revealed no leaks. Meanwhile they had been billing me for four months to store those moldy items as they continually avoided my calls. They went on to say that my homeowners insurance should cover the items, which it does not, since PODS internal test revealed no structural defect. Why would PODS do their own test, rather than hire an objective outside agency to test the POD? They also gave no answer for the source of the water. So, I have lost money for the approximately 32 months of storage, plus the expenses of the movers to transfer the items, and of course the damage to my items. And still this issue has not been resolved, as my insurance company is trying to get PODS to allow an outside agent to do the testing of the previous storage POD and to ascertain the source of the water inside the POD.
Description of Work: I placed my items in a storage POD in September of 2013. That POD remained on my property for approximately 4 months, then was supposedly transferred to a climate controlled facility. In November of 2015, I opened the POD to find water on the floor, and significant mold damage to most of my items. I have spent the past 6 months attempting to resolve this issue, with PODS refusing to answer my phone calls or emails until I contacted another consumer review organization. They are still denying their responsibility for my damaged items. (details below)

They were good, but it was a little bit of a mixed experience because we moved into New York City and they're not able to truck the POD into there. We weren't really told that, but were told that we would be unpacking our own POD. Instead of doing that they unpacked it in New Jersey, but we were in Manhattan and couldn't be there for the unpacking which was a little traumatic for me. In some ways they misled us by having us believe that the POD would be coming directly to us, so I don't know if it was just miscommunication within the company itself. They were very nice about the fact that I was very upset because we had artwork and things that we cared about which we were bringing in. My husband is an electrical engineer and he had packed it really well, so it was the fact that somebody else unpacked it and put it in a truck. It was handled by people and we didn't know who they were. We also might have changed how much the insurance was if we would've known that was going to be the end result. We felt a little misled and a little violated because it was all of my good stuff coming out of there going into another truck then coming into the city. The POD experience was really very positive because it's a really good way to move, but I think it's only New York City that they can't bring it to you. We moved out of a house, so they brought it there and picked it up from there. We were moving into an apartment in a city that's very congested, so I think they have to get permits or something to put it on the street. I don't know where the miscommunication was. It could've been in the salesmanship when they were telling us exactly what was going to happen and maybe didn't understand the major city. They would call us up and it's flowing for five or six hours, but then they said they were going to be unpacking it tomorrow. We set everything up on the basis that we could be there. We even had the building's permission to move things, but it didn't seem to work out that way. I didn't have any major damage, but that's not to say that it couldn't have happened. We didn't pack the stuff in a way that specified that this was all glass or this was all fragile because we were told it would come to us and we knew what was in it. If we had known that those things were going to happen we would've marked things differently. We used a lot of packing blankets and things to secure it within the pod because that's what we felt we were going to end up with. They had to take it out and repack it on a truck which was a different means of transportation. The price was reasonable because we did price other means of moving and it was a long way to go. They were on time with it, but I just didn't understand out of the POD and into the truck. When I explained that I was really upset about it because we put in things that were valuable they were receptive to that, but there wasn't a whole lot we could do at that point. We were just sort of stuck and if we wanted our stuff it had to be taken out and put in the truck. They tried to accommodate us as well as they could, but if we had known ahead of time it would've been a lot less traumatic and much smoother. We did get it all moved and it's all in the apartment. We're pleased with all of it. They were very responsive because I was very upset, so they did step-up to the plate there. Everything was on time but just done a little differently than what we thought. They were professional except for the miscommunication.
