Response from Richie-D Construction Inc.
Richie D Construction signed a contract with [member name removed] on the 16th of March 2014. Prior to the contract RDC made a visual inspection of the home, which was raised by a house raiser. Based upon this observation RDC realized it would take them approximately 3 to 5 days to clean the site and make it ready for RDC to commence the work. Which consisted of removing the existing foundation and footing, making ready for the pile driver? It was after this observation that the contract was signed. Once the removal of the debris was removed RDC realized the house was raised improperly, and immediately contacted [member name removed] and told him that RDC must shore each cribbing and hand excavate below the footing, because house would collapse, this procedure took RDC 3 weeks. RDC did this at no additional cost. Once this was completed RDC was informed that a building permit was never taken out. Which [member name removed] was aware of? After a conversation, [member name removed] and RDC agreed all construction should stop until one was acquired. This process took about one month at a cost to RDC of $ 7,000.00 plus. Again no additional cost to [member name removed] also this was not RDC responsibility, at this point in time [member name removed] would have been the General Contractor having full knowledge a building permit was never acquired by the house raiser. Now we had to wait for the pile driver who continued with other jobs, opposed to waiting for us to fix the problems above. After the piles were in place RDC immediately began its work, first installing the grade beam, which took days, because we had to work according to the high tide. During this time [member name removed] wanted the house raised an additional 3 feet. RDC and [member name removed] agreed and a change order or $ 6,600.00 was added to the contract. Also during our work RDC continually performed work the house raiser had in his contract. Which consisted of removing a concrete porch, lowering the house on the foundation and removing the cribbing from the site? This again was done by RDC with no additional cost to [member name removed] RDC also brought issues to the Architect, which he agreed to. This had nothing to do with RDC and would have been the carpenter’s responsibility. Also instead of installing a 4in concrete slab, RDC installed a 6in concrete slab knowing a 2 car garage was on the plans, again no additional charge. RDC has pictures of said site before and after which can attest to all of the above, and honestly believes [member name removed] is pleased with our work and did not make this unappreciated review.
