I hired another mover
Description of Work: I needed to vacate an apartment in Manhatten on short notice near the end of the month and move the items to NJ. I contacted First Class Movers and they provided estimate based on my inventory list very quickly. However, the quote was well above my expectations. It estimated 7 hours for the move for 1 van + 3 men (In reality it took less than 3 hours). When I asked for explanation they never replied. Eventually I paid $759 for the move to another moving company, same 1 van + 3 men crew, excellent, careful job. They wrapped and padded every piece of furniture individually. In hindsight, I am glad that First Class Movers has dropped the ball - by not replying they saved me a bundle of money. I've got great service for much less.

Response from FIRST CLASS MOVERS INC
My response to this potential client's assertions that we did not get back to her are somewhat exagerated. We are a reputable company that does not believe in phone/computer quotes for obvious reasons. They can be misleading, and in many states movers are not allowed to book moving jobs without first doing an onsite visual asessment of the things to be moved, (or risk being fined). This potential client was not avaliable to be seen or spoken to during the day as she was attending school during the day. Upon her insistance for a phone quote, we gave her a ballpark number just to give her a general idea. There are so many variables with regards to NYC pricing such as parking for the truck, size of elevators, time for the elevator, distance to the elevator, and building restrictions on all the above. This potential customer only wanted to corespond via email to schedule this move, which put us in a very uncomfortable position about handling her move. She is fortunate that she did not have any issues with the mover she ended up hiring, as most people that handle hiring a mover the way that she did end up with disasterous results.
