In the middle of another heatwave, my air conditioner stopped working. Looking at the outdoor compressor unit, I noticed that the fan was not turning. I checked the fuses and switches and determined that the problem was too much for my very limited knowledge so I called De Candia and Sons in Englishtown. I called them because they have been doing my HVAC servicing for 27 years. I placed the call at 8:00 pm and left a message on their voice mail. It wasn't an emergency, so I didn't call the emergency number. I received a call back at 8 am. Al, the owner, told me he could stop by between 9:30 and 10:00. He was their at 9:30. He quickly diagnosed the problem as a broken starter but didn't have the part in his service vehicle. He needed to get the proper part, which but was back within 10 minutes and an additional 15 minutes later had the unit working. He suggested changing the contacts since the old ones were pitted and likely to cause a problem in the near future, which I did. I also had him check the coolant charge which he did and said was normal. All in all after about 45 minutes, the air was running again and I'm no longer dying from the heat. As I've said, I used De Candia and Sons for 27 years, I've had estimates from other companies but he was always among the lowest. He upgraded my heating and A/C 18 years ago and this is the first problem I've had with it. I recommend him to many friends and neighbors who needed HVAC servicing and no one has ever complained to me about poor service. And believe me, they would in a heartbeat.
