Not well. The quality of the plants provided by David's were of an inferior nature and died quickly. These were the perennials. The company was NOT responsive and gave a ton of excuses why the plants didn't do well. They then informed me that it was not the right time of season now to replace the plants that they had put in. Their staff were incompetent and trampled some of my plants killing them and they overweeded pulling out live parts of plants, killing some more. The owner was rude and not responsive. I would NOT recommend this company at all. Keep searching for a good and competent landscape company.
Description of Work: Planted new perennials and flowers. Mulched beds. Weeding.

We were scheduled for an estimate at a specific time. As we were driving into the development we see the David's Landscaping truck passing us in the other direction leaving 15 minutes before our appt. time. He left a note in our mailbox that he was at our house and to call his cell. We called him and he immediately told me that there was a one hour window for our appt. and that he was not late. This was not what the office had told me when they scheduled the appt. He insisted that I was wrong and he was right. NOT a good start. The employee did not seem very interested in our garden. He did not suggest many ideas and we had to ask all of the questions. We were unimpressed. And, although promised an estimate it was never recieved. We are still researching for a landscaping company. Ironically they were recommended by someone in the complex.

Description of Work: Hard scape work was done very nicely and in a reasonable time period. The price was very good. Landscaping was neat, but some shrubs need replacement. Reaching the sales person to discuss additional work is difficult. Promised callbacks were not made. I had to call the office each time, and still no call backs from the sales person.

The problem arose long after he completed work about 3 years ago. He planted a beautiful maple tree next to our 2 car garage and pretty close to the house. Eventually, the roots began lifting up the concrete of driveway (I almost tripped once) and other damages. We had to have the tree removed, the stump ground, the gutters cleaned, and the entire driveway replaced. We did not have to redo entire driveway, but we opted to so everything matched. The neighbors also told us that the roots were encroaching onto their property. I've had 2 other landscapers said that tree never should have been planted there in the first place. There are also 2 trees in back yard where their roots are beginning to lift the pavers and we will have to have those removed and the pavers replaced as well. We ended up having to spend $4500 to repair our driveway, $600 for tree removal, and $40 for gutter cleaning. We just feel like he was very negligent and his negligence has cost us over $5000.
Description of Work: We used David's Lawn & Landscape to plant some trees, do landscaping and shrubbery installation, paver installation among other things in 1999 after we moved into our new home. We also used them for a number of years for routine lawn maintenance.

Response from David's Lawn & Landscape Design
We discussed the above review with the owner, David. The installation of the tree referenced was done, as the homeowner notes, back in 1999; because it's been so long there is no longer a record of it here. Our company was never made aware of any issue from the time of install until this review was posted.

We needed to have a row of leyland cypress evergreens planted on the side back of house to create much needed privacy between us and the neighboring house. We also wanted to fill in lots of top soil all around our deck , and have the ground aerated and seeded so that we could get a proper lawn started there. A friend had used this company a year ago for some hardscaping - front steps built ( I remembered the name) , and I then also saw this company on Angie's List with A Grades, so I decided to call them. They were very professional. Someone came out to give me an estimate very soon, and then gave me an immediate written estimate . I had the work done the following week. (I want to mention that another company that had come out about the same time did not even bother sending me any estimate, after two weeks....either the job was too small for them to take or they are just too busy...Who knows. I appreciated the fact that David's Landscaping does not seem to turn away work, no matter the size). The work was completed very nicely and it looks great. Rob (the foreman) patiently worked with me in the placement of the trees, and the workers and him did a very good job. All in all, this was a very good experience and I definitely plan to use this company for other landscaping work that might come up in the future.
Description of Work: Planted seven 6'-7' evergreen trees on side of house. Created nicely shaped raised bed around trees, then mulched bed with black mulch. Put down top soil all around deck. Then aerated and seeded entire area to build up lawn.

For many years we have had Hosta planted in one of our shrub beds with would either brown and wilt during the summer, or get chewed up by the rabbits as it was this year. We were looking to replace the Hosta with something more suitable for the location, as well as having multiple shrub beds and trees weeded, edged and mulched. We scheduled time to get an estimate and the gentleman providing the estimate arrived on time, in fact a bit early. We described the situation with the Hosta and the characteristics we were looking for in replacement plantings and he suggested several alternatives before we decided on a Variegated Boxwood. We only got one estimate for this job based on the excellent reports on this company in Angie's List. We might have been able to do a little better on price by getting additional estimates but ultimately we were really satisfied with the quality of work. They said it might be few weeks before they could get on the schedule which was fine since we were not in any rush. As it turns out they were able to fit us in the week after receiving the estimate. Everything was completed to perfection! The new shrubs look great and are an appropriate size for the location. The edging was done very professionally to the appropriate shape and dimensions, and they carefully spread 5 cubic yards of the new brown mulch to a suitable depth. They even removed much of the faded black mulch which had been in the beds before so it wouldn't clash! They cleaned up everything when done and left our landscaping looking really great with those finishing touches!

We called to get an estimate and made an appointment for within a couple of days. The person who came out gave his estimate while he was there. We discussed options/issues, and he repeated disclaimers about the work several times. and quot;Disclaimersand quot; means that we were asking for some stone work that was near a tree, and he wanted to make sure I understood that tree roots could disrupt the work some time out in the future. He said he did this because of problems he has had in the past with his customers. I mention this because I felt uncomfortable that he was complaining to me about some of his previous customers. We called in a couple of days to confirm that we wanted to work with them, and he came out again to revise/refine the estimate. This is an atypical step. Most companies try to minimize the number of visits, and we could have done this the first time. But anyway, it was good to talk through it as we clarified some of the work. His staff showed up on the appointment day for the work. The foreman went over the project with me. He was carrying a project drawing that wasn't on our contract and didn't exactly match everything we had discussed. So I had to walk through the project again. Ultimately, though, it's about the work done. The quality was fine and met all of our expectations. Definitely worth what we paid, and I'd use them again.

I met David at a landscape and gardening show at Clearbrook Adult Community. He told me that he had done quite a bit of work in the community which I later confirmed that with neighbors. I had called a number of other landscapers from Angie's List, namely, LDS - Landscape Design Strategies of Edison NJ and Dand S Landscaping, also of Edison NJ and independently, Brushill Landscaping. They all showed up to see the job and would send me an estimate except David's, who gave me an estimate on the spot. LDS gave me a reasonable estimate and proposal but I chose David's because he was somewhat less cost and I was impressed by his familiarity with Clearbrook, and their Condo rules and regulations. Brushill's estimate was too much higher than the others and Dand S never contacted me with an estimate. Upon accepting David's estimate, he came to the house to draw up a contract and we agreed that we could add new plants at the time of the job. We made an appointment to go to his place of business and pick pavers, colors and patterns which we did. David's crew showed up 8 AM on the morning of the day he said he would start, about 6 weeks after the contract. The supervisor, named Baldo and 3 other men did the work. He was very easy to communicate with and very receptive to our wishes. They had to carry the materials around the back a long way as my condo is attached on both sides. They laid a plywood path so as not to damage the lawns they traveled over. They completed the patio the first day even thought they had to work till about 7 PM. All of their work was done with meticulous skill and obvious pride of workmanship. The second day they did all the work on the beds; clearing the shrubs, cleaning up the old mulch and roots in the beds, They transplanted the shrubs we wanted and brought and planted the new ones we requested. When my wife decided she didn't like the color of the flower on some of the shrubs, Baldo quickly left and returned with the ones she for asked instead. They then laid down the material which keeps weeds from growing through and covered it with a thick layer of mulch and did this to all the beds. They finished the job, again with meticulous attention to detail and never once seemed to do anything that seemed like they were cutting corners. I was very impressed with their skill and their work ethic. I actually tipped all the workers because I felt that if I did the work myself I wouldn't have taken better care than they did. They left it looking like a showplace. Cudos and Bravo to Baldo's crew and David's who was lucky enough to hire them. As far as how the job holds up, only time will tell, but I can't imagine them having done anything else to ensure that.
Description of Work: I wanted a 12 X 15 paver Patio with surrounding 3' beds. I also needed about ten large old overgrown shrubs removed from beds in front and back of my home. In addition, about five shrubs were transplanted, some were disposed of and 9 new shrubs were planted in the beds. All the beds were prepared with weed-preventing material and covered with mulch and plastic borders around the beds.

The crew arrived at approximately 8:30 am. All of the old plants were removed by 11:00 am. At this point, they laid-out the new plants according to the plan that was proposed. We had the opportunity to adjust placement of plants. Then, the planting began. The edges of the planting beds were neatly trimmed, and the beds were covered with mulch. The entire area was cleaned-up, and all old material was taken away. The project was completed by 3:30 pm. The crew was very professional - arrived on time, performed great work, cleaned-up after themselves. Pricing was reasonable. I would certainly work with David's Lawn and Landscaping again.
Description of Work: The planting beds around the front of my house were filled with aging, overgrown plants. It was a mess. I wanted to have most of the overgrown plants removed, the planting beds cleaned-up, and new plants installed.
