Excellent family run business

Upon returning to our home after an extended absence, the central A/C system was not working. Of course it was the hottest time of the year. Further, the system is very old and will likely need to be replaced in the next year or so after a planned renovation project which may demand a larger system. For that reason I was hoping to keep repair costs to a minimum and to nurse the old system along for another year. Jim was referred by a plumbing contractor I trust in the area. Not living full time in the area I had no history or knowledge of Jim or his firm so I was shooting in the dark about his quality and integrity. He arrived promptly, was vary cordial, checked the system, said it appeared I needed a new condenser fan motor as it was not properly working (not running at full speed). Since we needed air conditioning I said replace it. While removing the motor he discovered that the real problem was with some faulty wiring at the connection to the motor, and not the motor itself. He could have proceeded to replace the motor, it was old and he would have likely made more on the service call. But he fixed the connection/wire, saving me from a much higher-cost repair. At the same time he PMed the system and it's been working fine ever since. He was up-front with me that the unit was very old (approaching 30 years) and could fail at any time because his repair was only to the wiring, and not the motor or compressor. The system has worked flawlessly since he fixed it. The fact that he didn't soak me for the more expensive repair, even though I agreed to it, really impressed me. I put a lot of weight on integrity and honesty. He's my go-to HVAC repair company from now on.
