On the plus side, they were punctual, called about appointment changes or delays, and were respectful of my property (the customary plastic shoe covers.) They also did a more thorough calculation of my BTU needs, noting variables like square footage, number of rooms, windows, which way they faced, etc, so might be useful to call for that data. But overall I was very dissatisfied. Estimate was twice the price of another well-rated HVAC installation company (Cool-O-Matic) for the exact same LOWEST GRADE of Carrier equipment (Comfort Series). I'm not suggesting the equipment is inferior, just that it is the economy series, more suited to maybe a rental property, not one I live in and intend to own for some time. In fairness, Edison was offering a temporary upgrade to a 10 year labor guarantee, which is a nice benefit, but not worth twice the price. The only other difference was that Edison's quote was for the 2.5 ton, vs. the 2 ton AC unit. But again, while the higher BTU model costs more, it's only a few hundred at most, not the almost $5,000 difference in the Edison quote. I also got a quote from another highly rated HVAC installer of Carrier equipment, Meyers & Depew, for several thousand dollars less than Edison for the HIGHEST grade Carrier equipment (Infinity Series). So again, I can't see why I would pay so much to Edison. I would strongly recommend you get other quotes. Edison may very well be a good company with good service, but they did not justify their exorbitant price. Why would I pay almost $10,000 when I could get the same equipment, from an also well-rated company, for $5500? And without the disturbing hard sell. If your product and service are good, you don't need to push it so hard. Realize that I am going to do my homework anyway and get a pretty good idea of exactly what I'm getting. A higher quote for a better product may be justified. A higher quote for an inferior product probably isn't. Even with the extended labor warranty. Also, be prepared for the longest, most boring sales pitch you'll ever receive. Edison: skip the big binder of pictures of the company's building, and the tales of how they started and how wonderful the owner is. I am a busy homeowner. Just give me the facts that pertain to me and my situation. I also felt an annoyingly patronizing tone and repeated questions about whether I was married and was there another "decision maker" in the home (from both the office staff and the sales rep). While I understand the desire to speak to all owners of a home, not one of the other 4 companies I received estimates from asked questions like that, and I can't help but wonder if a guy would be asked the same questions. I found it bizarrely archaic and very offensive. I am a college educated woman, who has been in the corporate world for decades, and can easily use tools like the Internet to quickly discern that economy level equipment is being pedaled at an exorbitant price compared to other companies nearby. Yes, I did compare "apples to apples", as I was repeated told by the rep, and your apples are way too expensive. Buyer beware. Research the specific model numbers. Go to the manufacturers websites, or web search the product numbers. Both Carrier and Lennox, and probably other brands, have a limited number of lines, where they group equipment into basic economy, medium grade, and the best. Within those 3 grades, are various other choices, like efficiency ratings and BTU/ton sizes. (1 ton = 12000 BTU). You may knowingly choose a lesser quality and/or a lesser SEER (efficiency rating), but realize what you are getting for your money. As the Edison rep said: compare apples to apples. A higher quote may be justified it it is better equipment or you have reason to trust the installation more. By the way, I finally chose Braido Heating in Somerset, and a Lennox Elite grade system, with 16.2 SEER (13 is lowest sold these days, above 15 is recommended.) It has not yet been installed, but I am VERY impressed with the company so far. Above and beyond in answering all my questions and concerns! And more than once, they resisted the urge to push more expensive equipment, either in size or quality, even when I asked for quotes on other equipment, just to better do comparisons.

We ask for all people involved with the installation to be present to avoid any confusion or misunderstand on the most import day of your new system. Installation day. Angie's List was started for people looking for professional contractors who will do the job right the first time. Training and quality people who you can trust in your home are quite often more expensive. People looking for the best value will chose Edison Heating & Cooling. For those shopping for low price we are sorry but we will not remove our 100% satisfaction guarantee, drug tested employees, fully trained staff and so much more. Our reputation of over 27 years stands for quality, performance and value but it is not for everyone.

I called them for the $79 A/C tuneup special that they were running. It took about two weeks to get an appointment but the gentleman showed up promptly at 12pm. I've had A/C tuneups done before by a different company and they did a complete job: cleaned the blades, changed the filter. checked the connections, tested the unit etc. Apparently, the AC tuneup by Edison is not so complete. The technician inspected the unit and said it was old and doesn't have much life in it, which is true but we knew that already. He advised that the blades were dirty and should be cleaned. Isn't that part of having the unit serviced? That's part of the reason we called in the first place. He said that the filter should be replaced. When my wife asked him if he was going to replace it he said he would if we had one to provide him. These guys don't carry filters to an AC job? He also told us there was a part that needed to be replaced and that if the part in question failed the entire unit might be done so he quoted my wife $30 for the part and $89 for the labor. That seemed reasonable enough so we authorized the work. Then he came back and said he made a mistake and that the part was $70 and not $30. He asked if he should still proceed and she said yes. Then he did the work and came back again and said that he made another mistake and the office told him the part was $95 and not $70. I don't know if this was incompetence or if it was an intentional way of getting us to agree to a repair we might not have otherwise agreed to. ln any case we should not have been charged the $95 since we never agreed to it. Truth be told I wouldn't have agreed to $70. If we had been quoted the $95 in the beginning there is no way I would have agreed to this repair. My wife did mention the technician looked like he was 17 years old so my guess is he was just inexperienced. I understand everyone has to start somewhere, but if they're going to send someone to my house to perform a service I expect that person to be a professional or at least be paired with a professional that knows what he or she is doing. I also looked up the price of this part on the internet and prices ranged from $20-$40. That's a pretty healthy markup in addition to the labor. On top of all this I now have to call someone else to change the filter and clean the blade or try and figure out how to do it myself. This was a painful and expensive experience. My AC unit is old and needs to be replaced. Hopefully, I'll get through one more summer, but their pricing errors and the poor quality of the A/C tuneup has convinced me that I should go elsewhere when the time comes to replace our AC. Update to my original review in June: Although I was unhappy with the service, I appreciate the way the company handled it and provided a refund even though I did not ask for one. I thought that was very professional of them. I have updated the ratings to reflect this. I may or may not call them in for an estimate when I replace my A/C. I'll take a look at their more recent reviews when the time comes.

As part of our quality control process we monitor all social media. After reading your review we can see that you are not satisfied by your D rating. Please accept our apologies and as part of our 100 per cent satisfaction guarantee we will refund all of money for the tune-up and repairs we made at your home. We carry some common size air filters on our trucks, however due to limited space we cannot carry every size and type. Our customers usually change their filters monthly, as suggested by the manufacturer. This was our first time to your home so we would have no idea of the size or type filter you required. As far as the blower wheel being dirty this is not covered by the $ 79.00 tune-up special. This is a labor intense job that requires removal of the blower assembly and removal of the wheel so it can be cleaned properly. We would have gladly completed this for you but there would have been an additional cost. As far as the pricing issue we have spoken to our technician about the mistake. He has been instructed not to provide any pricing until the exact part and pricing has been confirmed by our office. This will avoid any future mistakes. All of our technicians receive weekly training as well as manufacturers product training several times yearly. Our technicians often train off site at a manufacturer facility for five weeks to ensure they are up to date on the latest techniques and products. Please don't allow there youthful appearance to be mistaken for an unqualified technician. We do offer more extensive maintenance agreements that discount parts and labor rates. The tune-up you requested is a 21 point check-up that if done semi-annually would improve the life of your equipment; however it needs to be done from day one of your equipment. Again please accept our apology and refund for the service provided. If we can be of any further assistance please feel free to contact us.

This was an much need it job, avoided by all previous owners of this small townhome. For carification, there was an old (made in the 50's) steam boiler in basement, served by a very new and shiny above ground Roth oil tank next to it. Looked unsafe, smeeled and the cost of fuel was expensive. We choosed Edison because they looked confident, they gave us the best price and waranty and they are a big, local reliable company that's been arround from the 80's. Job was done beggining of April 2014. Edison sent 2 trucks for this, 4 people. It tool them just one work day to complete the job. They got to our place just before 8am and they left by 3:30pm. While unloading the new boiller they discovered it was damaged from transportation. A phone call was made and another crew delivered a new working boiler, in just 30 minutes. They tested the installation, gave me all the paperwork at the end. They fixed a leaking radiator free of charge. Applied for rebates from Elizabeth Gas. Warranty for the labor is 10 years. Carrier has 10 years for heat exchanger I think. Another company (Nova Tech Inc ) removed the azbestos from inside the old boiler. It was recommended by Edison and we were pleased also. Edison completed the job 4/21: they sliced the old boiler than took it away. The price of asbestos removal and oil tank removal was separate from Edison's job. Thank you Finally another company (Entech) removed the oil tank from basement.
Description of Work: Replacing and removing old oil fired steam boiler with new Carrier gas fired steam boiler. Replacing old 40 gal gas fired water heater with new Bradford White water heater. Running new chimney linner. All the piping & venting necessary for this convertion. Dealing with all the permits need it, (cost included in price). Best warranty offered from all the companies reviewed prior to signing contract. 6 months no interest financing thru Wells Fargo. Removing old boiler from basement.

I paid $3900 which included the unit and the installation. I knew that I needed to replace my system so I was able to buy the system in November and paid it off. Once I paid it off, they installed it in June which was a very nice feature for me. I paid them like a deposit and then I paid them a couple of payments during the year, and then they installed it, and then I paid them the final payment. That was a very nice feature that they let me pay. I was also going to have it installed in the winter, but I knew I needed it so they let me pay it off. I knew I needed it so I contacted them. They had done my heating system 5 years before. When I told them that I needed a new air conditioner, and because I was a previous customer, they let me pay it off. That was pretty good for me. They were excellent. I had gotten a price from LJ Corelli and they were about $500 more expensive than Edison that was why I went with Edison. I was very happy with their service.

It was great. I like using the mom and pop shops and thought I would be just another customer. From the first call to make an appointment I felt taken care of. The technician showed up within the window and fixed our thermostat. He also reviewed our HVAC units and gave us some advice. It was a great appointment and glad I called them. I would definitely use them again when we need them.

Well, it's complicated. I purchased this coupon deal from Angie's List (I don't recall the cost as it may be cheaper than $99) for heating tune up. But I purchased it with my office in mind. My office is tiny, about 500 sq ft, and it has an old electrical heating/ac unit. First, the vendor said it's for residential use only. But after realizing that my office is in a dual-use complex in which the first floors are offices/businesses and 2nd floor are residential, they came. That took a few rounds. When the service guy came, they took one look at my system and recommended replacement instead of tune-up. He was supposed to give me a quote for replacement (never received) and said that I could use the coupon on another property. I then called up the vendor and want to use the coupon for my parent's residential house a few miles away. The vendor then told me that since the service guy already came, the coupon is no longer valid. When I mentioned the guy said I could do this, the vendor then told me the service guy was not authorized to do so. But that's not my problem... After many days of haggling, then finally agreed to perform the tune up, and that went well.

I talked with installation manager before they came to my house for install and asked for good experienced technicians. Because I read lots of articles regarding the important of installation when changing furnace and A/C. The manager Nancy said they would send experienced technicians. Two technicians came on time. They took most of the day to replace old furnace and a/c. Even they put tarp on the floor but after a while, it did not stay. The salesman came at the end and helped on sweeping and gave me all documents. But I did have to clean up the floor (tiles) again since they were all dirty now. I have a bathroom next to furnace. Couple of days later, when I use that bathroom, I realized that there was no heat from vent. So I called the Service Department, they sent over a technician quickly. The technician found out that furnace duct was not connected with that bathroom. So he had to reconnect. After I came home from work (since I had to ask a relative to stay for the repair and can?t afford to take another day off from work), the sliding door for the furnace room came out the track when I opened the door. The technician probably took out and didn?t put it back properly. So I had to call a handy man for that since I am not that handy. I also realized that the siding was cracked on the back of the house where they installed new electric output. I told the service technician and he took pictures and said he would send to manager for review. I called one week after he left and talked with Nick, one of the managers. He said he would check the pictures. After another week, I called him again; he said that he would discuss this with boss. This is before Christmas. Now it is mid of January, I still haven?t heard anything from anyone of EH&C. I definitely not recommend EH&C to anyone for services and installation.

The expense of the cost of the parts do not included warranty or other factors like the labor for installing the part and checking the operation to ensure that there was no other factor that caused the part to fail. I am sure they are a fine company, but their representative was a bully. I felt that he was extremely dishonest. Anybody else may have said to the quote of 20000 Dollars, and I told him that we were going to get a few more bids, and he got rude about it. He said ''So are you calling me a liar?'' I said I guess I am, I don't know who you are. I told him that I never go with the first bid. I chose to go with another person. He tried to sell me everything, and said that we also needed a new humidifier. The quoting process was intimidating and rude. The guy said that if we didn't say yes, we wouldn't get the offer, and my husband asked him if he would blow off 20,000 Dollars if we called the next day. He said he was very busy, and that his phone was blowing off with people wanting his service, and he didn't know if he could give it back. My husband told him to leave. I have never seen my husband so angry, and that is when this guy knew he was stepping the line, and offered to come down on the price. The guy who ended up selling me the unit said that even the highest priced unit was not so much. He was trying to rip me off. He was very educated and knowledgeable, and spent a lot of time explaining things to us. He was one of those guys who needed to meet his quota. He was not professional. They probably have a great company, but now they are following other models, and it is a high pressure sales.

There are unique opportunities for our customers to receive additional savings when an unexpected scheduling change occurs while trying to work though a customers sudden schedule change. Since our company and our services are in very high demand when the sales staff receives these opportunities they are sold usually within hours. I am very sorry if you felt pressured or bullied this is not our intention nor is it a sales tactic we employ on a regular basis. Each sales person here wants to get the best price possible for our customers and are very passionate when they have this opportunity to help you save additional money.

We interviewed several contractors and compared their offerings against our requirements. We listened to their sales pitches and reviewed the prices they provided. Overall, we chose Edison Heating & Cooling over the others based on knowledge of and expertise in working with the Generac product, the proximity to our home (for follow-up maintenance or responsiveness for emergency service) and references. The pricing was generally in the same ballpark as the other vendors. We met with salesperson Patrick Brown, who reviewed our home's electrical usage and discussed our choices. Patrick was very professional, knowledgeable and responsive when we called him with additional questions. There was NO high pressure for the sale. We then dealt with the office staff to get permits and find out what needed to be done to get the ball rolling. Each and every person we spoke to was helpful (especially Sharon, who even called me back at 7:00 p.m. one night to make sure I had an answer to my question from earlier in the day). They were all professional and responsive to our requests. The permit application from our municipality took a little while longer than thought, but Edison helped get that done, and kept in constant contact via email with updates. The next step was getting PSE&G to review our gas meter and gas line to make sure it was able to handle the additional gas service for the generator. We had to get a larger gas meter installed at an additional up front charge of $730 (separate from Edison cost) to PSE&G; PSE&G said this was a deposit that would be retuned should we sell the house. PSE&G scheduled the new gas meter installation (~ two weeks wait because they ran out of these meters due to demand for new generators) and once that was done the generator was delivered and put in place on a concrete pad that they provided. Each municipality has their own requirements for placement of a generator and the distance it must be from your property line and house/structure, so you should check this out before you begin. On the generator was delivered and placed, the municipality came out to approve it (this took 5 minutes). The next step was to have the electrician (provided by Edison Heating & Cooling) come out and set up the electrical requirements. This takes at least two-three days of work; don't underestimate this part, it is probably the most time consuming. Ray Menzel was the electrician and he did an EXCELLENT job, even coming back on a Saturday to get it done. Then the last piece is having Edison send their top generator specialist, John Lutz, to inspect everything and start up the generator. He performs several tests and takes time to explain how the generator works and what we need to do to maintain it - he's very detailed and patient in answering any of he questions we had. He truly is an expert in this area and knows how the Generac works down to the smallest detail. He also said he's always available should we have additional questions for him. We will now need to call the municipal inspector back for one last look, which I expect to be another quick approval. That's it. We're set for any electrical outages that may happen! Note: this process does take several months, just so you are aware. Dealing with Edison Heating & Cooling was a very positive experience and we will be using them for our central air and any heating issues we may have in the future.

I contacted them to get an estimate on a boiler replacement. I was called by telephone rep who told me that my wife and I had to sit with a sales rep for at least and hour "to be told all our options" in order to get an estimate. To me, this sounds like high-pressure sales rather than service. No thanks!

We are sorry you chose not to follow through with an estimate from our company. Your assessment could not be more incorrect. We ask for everyone involved in the replacement be present so we can discuss all the aspects of the job. From the installation parameters to rebates, financing and efficiencies and equipment brand selection. It is much easier to cover everything when all interested persons are home. We also gather the information for a complete heat load calculation including the measurements of your radiation. We do not guess at equipment sizing or use the size of existing equipment that could be over or under sized from a previous installation. Quite often no price is even presented until a written proposal, energy analysis, and heat load are presented on a second visit. Just because other companies do not wish to spend the time on an estimate they may not complete and provide an estimate written on a scrap of paper without doing a proper heat load does not mean there are not still professionals willing to do their job. People often wonder why their systems don't work or the installation does not go as planned. The answer is usually the low price and the lack of effort. Had you scheduled an appointment and gone through our presentation and wrote this review I could understand your position. But for you to post such a negative review based on no actual facts about a twenty six your old family run business is reckless.

It worked out fine. I let them know when I made the appointment that I have the Big deal coupon from Angie's list. They took out my name and they scheduled the appointment pretty fast and it went well. I think they were professional and they did a good job. It was only a checkup because I bought a house and I just want to make sure that everything is working fine. They were on time.
