We used Chris at CM Burrows to perform a condo inspection in Hoboken, NJ. This was the second condo we had an inspection on, in our attempt to purchase a condo in Hoboken. The first inspector was fine, but did not seem thorough enough, and unfortunately did not provide a final inspection report with photos, so we opted to try someone else on the second condo. Chris was the perfect choice. He was professional, extremely thorough, and talked us through each and every part of the inspection process. As first time home buyers, we wanted to understand everything, to be sure we were making a sound investment. Chris delivered on that, showing us issues that were easy to fix, things that would likely take an expert, and he also gave us tips on how to maintain things like the HVAC. I knew I made a good decision in choosing Chris when he told me that he did not put a time limit on the inspection, and typically only scheduled 1 per day, to ensure he had adequate time to thoroughly inspect the property. Our last experience was not this way, and the inspector seemed in a rush to get to his next job, so Chris is definitely a good choice if you are worried about a rush job. The final inspection report Chris provided was long, explaining everything with photos. I didn't realize how helpful it is to have photos until we received the report. This really helped in our negotiation process with the seller, as we could show visuals of the issues that were identified. If you are in the market for a home inspection or condo inspection, call Chris. I would recommend him to anyone and would use him again in the future (although I hope we stay in our new condo for awhile :-) )

Overall: I cannot say enough great things about our C.M. Burrows inspection. As first time home buyers we were looking for the best-of-the-best so there were no surprises in our first purchase. Our realtor did recommended a different guy to us, but we preferred to find someone independently who we knew would be thorough and completely impartial - we are so glad we made that decision (especially since our realtor's guy quoted 1/2 the amount of time and cost giving me pause for concern.) Chris exceeded our expectations in every way and even impressed our realtor. The Process: Chris personally answered our call within a couple of rings (better than the 4 other places I tried and got voice mail), fully explained his approach, verified that his family has been licensed and in business in the area for 3 generations, and generally could not have been nicer and more professional (I liked his website as well.) He was able to book our inspection in a matter of days (which is great when you're anxious), was early to the appointment, and had already started taking pictures and evaluating the exterior before we arrived. Before we got into the inspection together, he recapped his approach and how the process would work, then during the appointment, carefully explained everything along the way: how things worked, what was good, and what was pause for concern. He was patient with all our random questions, made us feel confident and informed vs. freaked out, and delivered a 40 page report to us and our legal representation in less than 24 hours complete with full detail, photographs, recommendations and referrals for next steps just as he described to us in person. Finally, our realtor, who is one of the top volume guys in the Hoboken/Weehawken area literally said, and quot;19 out of 20 home inspectors aren't going to find the stuff Chris found for you today.and quot; I think that summed it up pretty well. We can't wait to recommend him to friends. Cost and Timing: In terms of cost, our (potential) townhouse was nearly 2,700 sq. ft.. and the inspection took about 3 hours (right on the dot as he estimated.) Our cost was $575 and a check was exchanged at the end of the appointment. Worth every penny.

This is my first time using Angie’s List, and I have to say it paid off nicely. Based on the good reviews I decided to go with Chris, and I’m glad I did. He was able to find things I would have over looked. My biggest concern I had was the HVAC system, and if it was operating properly. He discovered that it was not cooling enough by using a handheld laser temperature sensor. The next thing he discovered that the drain in the Jacuzzi was leaking, by taking apart a maintenance panel and looking in behind the tiled wall. One of the windows didn’t operate correctly. We then went up to the roof to inspect the condenser, and the roof. Chris then explained the things that might need replacing in the future. At the end of the inspection, he explained the list of issues and emailed a thorough report the same day. I would highly recommend that you use Chris for your next Home Inspection. I know I will use him again for my next home inspection.

Chris was incredibly responsive, thorough, and easy to schedule an appointment with. All it took was one quick call to schedule my inspection two days later for 9am. He gave me the cost estimate over the phone in advance and asked a number of questions to get an understanding of the condo and the building it's in. Chris showed up early to our 9am appointment to inspect the ground level of the condo building and the outside foundational area. He then walked us through all the areas of the condo, explained what he was doing, and gave us a very clear understanding of any items he found (as well as what any issues might do long-term and how we might fix them). He answered any questions we had and made sure we were very comfortable with our understanding of everything in the apartment. After Chris inspected the condo, he took the extra time to go up to the roof of the building with us to make sure there weren't any noticeable problems up there. I received Chris's report one business day later and it was amazingly thorough, with very well-written explanations of the different areas he inspected and the items he found. Would DEFINITELY use Chris again for any future inspections, and I highly recommend him!

I loved the first house that Chris inspected for me but he found a bunch of major problems with it that I had overlooked, including severe foundation issues. He was careful to truly impress upon me the severity of these problems and based on his findings I decided not to buy the house. Looking back, I'm incredibly happy and relieved that I didn't go through with that purchase and I feel like I have Chris to thank for that. The second house inspection went much better, thankfully, and Chris was just as professional and thorough as he was the first time. In the same way that I trusted his negative assessment then, I trust his positive assessment now. I am much more confident in my pending purchase knowing that I've had such a well-qualified inspector take a look at the property. I can't recommend Chris strongly enough. When you're making a huge purchase like a house, he's exactly the kind of reliable person that you want giving you advice.

Chris was early to our appointment and was very professional. The inspection itself was very thorough. The Seller was in the unit at the time of the inspection and he was very discreet when talking to me about problems he was finding. His report was delivered promptly, as promised. I would definitely hire this company again and would recommend them to my friends.

After considering the Realtor recommended appraiser/inspectors, I opted to go look for more neutral recommendations. Chris was very timely and professional and thorough with his inspection of the home. In addition he was able to explain the procedure of his inspection as well as answer in detail the questions that I had. His advice was sound and he was able to warn of potential problems and simple preventative measures in a clear way. Very highly recommended!

Chris arrived early, and was very thorough in examining the house. He was very personable, and explained to us and showed us what he was looking at/for. He provided a very thorough written report as a result of the inspection. We feel like we know exactly what we are getting into in purchasing the home.

Excellent. As a first time home buyer (a.k.a. Nervous Nelly), Chris' knowledge and experience proved invaluable. He was fast (yet extremely thorough), responsive and level headed (i.e. he didn't scare me with any doomsday scenarios).

He did a great job. He was here for a little over 2 1/2 hours. He looked at every part of the house where leaks could be possible, took pictures to include in his report. After doing that he put this fan in the front door which sucked out the air from the house and indicated where air was entering the house. There were areas which I thought were fine but the fan showed that it wasn't. He wrote down everything and put it in a 26 page report. He included the pictures he took. I am following up with another contractor to fix the problems.
