My house is 41 years old, and had a roof with 2 layers of shingles, ventilated by an attic fan. I brought in 5 contractors to discuss installation of a new roof. Robert Frank of Saenz Contractors, Inc. was be far the best in examining the condition of the existing roof, and making precise recommendations for a new installation. He was only one of the 5 roof salesman to actually climb into the attic to visually inspect the plywood underlay. He found mold everywhere, and some rot. This was confirmed by a home inspector I hired for an independent evaluation. Robert also was the only one to notice that my vinyl perforated venting soffits were blocked which contributed to lack of air flow through the attic and the generation of mold. He suggested a method for solving this problem. I had complete confidence in all of Robert's recommendations and so chose Saenz Contractors to do the work. The Saenz crew was very experienced and well trained. The did a great job in all aspects of removal of the old, and installation of the new including roof ridge ventilation. The cost was about the same as the other contractors for equivalent work and materials. I am very pleased with the performance of Saenz Contractors, and with the quality of the Owens Corning Shingles, and with the appearance of my new onyx black roof.

I was very pleased with them. They came out on time. They made their recommendation to wait, so we are going to wait. They did not give us a quote. There was no charge at all. He came and explained everything to me. He said that he would send out one of the technical persons to look at the roof and make a recommendation. That's what they did. I was happy with them. I certainly would call them and get an estimate from them.

I called Saenz for and estimate to replace our roof. Robert came to the house to take measurements and make recommendations. He was very professional and a pleasure to work with. The actual cost of the project is exactly what was written in the estimate and they began the project when he said they would. The crew came in on 9/7/13 and worked quickly and efficiently. They had to come back one more day for a few hours and the job was complete. They were very nice and cleaned up everything after the job was complete. We had a total of 4 estimates. 2 of them were higher than Saenz and 1 was lower. However, Saenz offered additional extras (soffits and hip vents) that the others did not. Therefore, they offered the best overall value for our money. I highly recommend Saenz and will use them again in the future.

The representative came out. He took about an hour and a half to scale out the job. He sat down with us. He gave us an extremely detailed estimate. He had samples of the product. He was enthusiastic. He was very knowledgeable. He and his crew had all been specially trained just to do roofing. They were a little more expensive than other contractors but we went with them because of him. We were very pleased with the job. They did everything in a day. They cleaned up. They had a machine that picked up nails around the perimeter of the house which was amazing. We would recommend them.

Overall I had a very positive experience with Saenz Contractors. Robert provided a quote very quickly and he came in the lowest of 4 quotes (3 were clustered within $1K of one another, the last was very high). They provided the longest warranty (15 yrs) on labor and didn't ask for 50% up front before any work was started (many contractors do). In fact it's worthy to note they didn't collect a single cent until every aspect of the job was completed and I was happy. On an expensive job like this, you don't find many people willing to manage their business this way. He also provided us with recommendations on colors since we were a little lost and I'm glad I went with his recommendation. I didn't want a flat dark brown, and even though the samples and the shingles he brought by indicated the color would be a flat dark brown, once they were installed on the roof I found he was dead right, this was the color I was looking for. Talk to your contractor, rather than relying on the samples. They see these after installation day in and day out and get give you a better perspective on how the finished product might look. Generally communication was very good, they arrived on time and they seemed to take their time and do the job right rather than rushing. Don't get me wrong, it was a lot of work to do in 2 days, and they stayed until after sunset to stay on schedule, but I felt like they paid attention to details and did the job as if it was their own home. Everything was installed correctly and properly to ensure a solid end product. I did have some water penetration (from the original roof the builder put on) into the home that required some extra work, the extent of which was unknown. Robert helped to paint a picture and provide some initial suggestions and estimates. In the end they did everything I asked of them, made sure no more water would get in through the roof or siding and the bill was consistent with what Robert and I had talked about. For all purposes this aspect of the job could have been a blank check, but they didn't treat it as such. For the sake of transparency and completeness, there were two issues I had with them during the process. I chose not to lower the rating to reflect and I'll explain why. First the scheduled start date came...and nobody showed. I left a message and Robert called me back. After a quick discussion he simply admitted he screwed up, no excuses, no smoke and mirrors, just a sincere apology and an offer to reschedule the following week. It was a small inconvenience because I wanted to be onsite on the first day in case any issues or concerns arose (especially since there were a few problem areas on the roof/siding I was interested in resolving). At the end of the day, I respect the way he handled it. Mistakes happen and he did his best to get us back on track. The second issue I had was with the clean up. The day they finished the roof my wife had approached them and asked them to make sure they cleaned up the nails due to a dog in the house. Everyone in the crew had seen us walking the dog during the job. They did clean up the driveway and front walk. Over the weekend I got nervous looking around the yard and picked up a magnetic sweeper to see how clean they left the yard. Unfortunately I picked up 3-4 lbs of nails from everywhere in the yard except the driveway and front walk. Now you are bound to find a few here and there, it's not avoidable, but this goes well beyond. I was offered a few explanations for why this happened. The landscapers had come at the end of the second day and were blowing the tarps around with their equipment. They had to send them away to prevent further disruption. I was also told they weren't finished with the job since they still had the gutters and minimal siding work left to do, which wouldn't be done until the following week. The simple fact is, if they knew there were nails all over the yard, they should have communicated that to me. All other signs pointed to the clean up being finished (no debris left in the yard, all equipment taken away along with the dump cart and debris and the roofing work was completed). In any event, I had cleaned up the nails, and in light of the care they took in every other aspect of the job, I'm hard pressed to lower their rating for this. With this or any other contractor, you probably need to be extra careful that the clean up was performed to your satisfaction if you have pets or children. I could have gone the extra step to ask for confirmation before they left, but I assumed it had been done. If I asked for confirmation from the site foreman and requested that they sweep the grounds immediately, I have no doubt they would have done it. Lesson learned for both of us. Communicate. Sorry for the long review. I wanted it to be complete. Roofing jobs are expensive and if not done right can cost you down the road. Hopefully this is helpful to others trying to make a decision.

I am confident that my wife said that they provided excellent service. It turned out that we did not need to have the roof serviced and it was all good to go. We just bought our house and we were just making sure that the roof was in a good condition. My wife did a remark to me that she really really appreciated their service. So, we definitely got their information and we will really gladly refer them to anybody.

Old roof shingles were completely removed and a new Owens Corning roof system was installed. The roof system included edge drip guard, ice shield, underlayment, new ridge vent, and new Owens Corning Duration shingles. The house was especially challenging with multiple complex sections (dormers, multiple levels, hip section, separate porch roof section) that required a lot of detailed work. One wet roof tongue and grove board on the garage was replaced as part of the new roof installation. New gutter guards installed on all gutters. Clean up was very thorough and included magnetic sweep of driveway and yard to pick up individual roof nails from the old roof. Damage to shrubs and flowers around the house was minimal. Workers were very professional.

They are very helpful. I don't really have anything I didn't like, I picked them by going through Angie's List and I interviewed several people and I narrowed it down to 2 people and it wasn't like I have one over the other that one is any better, what set this one apart which really wasn't that much is that, they gave a better guarantee on the roof and labor, they gave 15 years as opposed to the other gentleman that I liked a lot too, he was 10 years and the price was better. When it came down, it was more really a best guarantee, labor guarantee and a little bit to do with the price, but the price wasn't really the determining factor, it was the labor guarantee. The roof was beautiful and the pricing was great. If I needed anything on the house because they do all the things, I think they do roofing and siding and windows but I would definitely call them.

Salesperson, Robert, is well-informed on the Owens-Corning roofing system and is very good at explaining what work/materials are recommended or needed, and why. He's not just the standard cookie-cutter salesman, so initial and subsequent meetings with him give you a better impression of how Saenz will do the job. He was good at explaining the differences between possible options and how costs would be affected. We think that Saenz is in the middle, price range wise -- generally lower than the few large roofing/siding companies that are more well-known in our surrounding Mercer area (although Saenz maybe does more work in Central NJ area overall). These others are somewhat higher in price, and not as transparent in showing price breakdowns. Like most other reviewers, I was subsequently impressed by the expertise, hard working attitude, and pride in workmanship shown by both the roofing and siding crews. They were friendly, respectful, and conscientious. After we decided on Saenz for the work, Robert stopped off several times to deliver larger samples of the roof shingle types/colors we most liked. Owner Douglas Saenz was attentive to our specific concerns once the work began. The roofing was completed in one day, and the siding and gutters in 5 days, including work on Saturday. The siding crew foreman suggested certain small detail options for the trim that we felt further improved overall appearance. The new roof, siding, shutters, and gutters look great. Douglas obviously takes pride in customer satisfaction and business reputation. So, from the top, and through all levels of the Saenz operations, we felt that Saenz was as or more competitive than other contractors from whom we requested estimates in our area. Based on quality, price, workmanship, transparency, and reliance, we have been very pleased, and we recommend getting an estimate from Saenz.
Description of Work: Saenz provided new Owens-Corning roof, including new roofing boards, soffits, and roof venting; new siding and trim on entire house (including side damaged by Sandy); and new gutter/downspout system.

I selected Saenz over another contractor because when Saenz visited to inspect my existing roof, they also inspected the underlying plywood structure to determine its condition. The other roofing contractor with whom I consulted failed do this obviously important inspection. I was very impressed by the technical knowledge of the gentleman who inspected the roof and provided the estimate, His explanations were clear and easily understandable. I was also very impressed with the expertise and hard work of the Saenz workers and the care and pride they took in their work. As promised, they completed the job in one day and very thoroughly cleaned up afterwards.

Robert came and gave estimate. He was polite and explained where I understood the process. He checked attic and roof for damage. It was extremely cold the day that the roof was to be started. But the crew came and worked through it. Luigi was the foreman and was pleasant and available for any issues. Crew removed existing shingles and replaced entire roof, drip edge and ice shield. Took 2-3 days to complete. Cleanup was complete. I have a large dog and they doubled checked to make sure the nails were removed from the ground with some type of magetic broom.

After some shopping around, I decided Saenz was the contractor for the job after Robert spent an hour and half with me on our first meeting taking me up on the roof and in the attic and downloading me with an education on roofing. No one else spent this kind of time with me. I was impressed with his thoroughness and knowledge. Other roofers I contacted gave me an estimate from the driveway in 10 minutes. The work began as scheduled and was completed in one day. I was at work the day of the project and got a call from Douglass who headed up the construction and he told me I needed some plywood replaced. I was very impressed when he texted me multiple pictures of where the plywood had been removed which gave me confidence in his honesty. All went well and the roof looks great and 12 days later hurricane Sandy could not budge a shingle.
Description of Work: Remove and dispose of entire old roof. Replace 15 sheets of plywood. Install aluminum drip edge around entire perimeter. Install ice shield and roof underlayment. Cut ridge vent along peak of roof and cut vent along all soffits. Install baffles in attic. Install new chimney and plumbing flashing. Install lifetime Owens-Corning shingles using 6 electrogalvinized nails per shingle. Remove debris.

We were extremely pleased with our experience with Saenz from start to finish. Robert was very responsive, punctual, knowledgeable, and honest when working with us to quote and schedule the project. We obtained quotes from four other companies, including "big" ones, and this was not our experience with them. Saenz provided the same quality of product, installation procedures, insurance coverage, no sub-contractors, etc. as the other contractors we spoke to, but at an extremely competitive price. This, and our level of comfort working with Robert, made our decision to go with Saenz easy. During the project, the crew was communicative, friendly, and professional. The roof and siding replacement were performed by different crews, a couple of days apart. The roofing replacement was completed in two days. The siding took about a week to complete. Once they started the job, they worked every day except Sunday until it was complete. We are very happy with the finished product. The workmanship is very good and our house looks better than it did before Sandy hit. I would recommend Saenz Contractors and will use them again if I need any additional work.

Overall, I have very good experience. Robert answered our quote requesting call promptly and came to our house as scheduled. He went up to the roof to check the roof conditions, explained to us what he saw and gave us the quote. Initially the adjustor from our insurance company was only willing to write down the cost for half roof. Robert told us what we need to tell the insurance company regarding the damage, and finally the insurance company agreed to replace the whole roof. He also answered my call on some technical details before we chose them for the job. Job was performed in a cold windy day. Six workers showed up and finished the job in about six hours. They removed the old roof, installed the new roof, and replaced our old venting system with ridge vent. At the end they cleaned up everything. Although I am at home, they didn't bother me for anything. Because of the weather, one of their ladder fell and cause a small damage to our siding. They came the next day and fixed it. Also, I found some nails on our lawn (likely due to long grasses) later, and they did the magnetic swap again after I requested it. The price is good comparing to other quotes I got. It is in line with the estimation from the insurance company, and Saenz used better materials.

We thought everything was handled professionally - having them manage all the different kinds of repairs needed took some of the weight off of our shoulders. Though we were a little unhappy about how one gutter didn't meet the gutter perpendicular to it, the owner Mr. Saenz had it promptly corrected to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: Our house was damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Robert Frank went to my home (while I was away) at the time he promised, and was in touch with me by phone and email with his opinions and estimates. He was responsive to my emailed questions, and was true to his word about scheduling the repair work when we could be available (because we wanted to be there). When I discovered water damage inside, Robert sent someone to do a temporary roof fix to prevent further leakage in the time before the repair was to be done. Though the repair had to be delayed several days due to weather conditions, the roof was replaced Dec 23rd and 24th, much to our relief ! One wall of siding, several other shingles, some fascia, two gutters, and the trim around two garage doors and above a large picture window were replaced the first good weather day after Christmas.
