The work was done on 4/4. They arrived at 8am and started immediately. They were very careful in setting up the work area. They enclosed the work area with plastic, to prevent dust and other debris from spreading. They used electric jackhammers, which are not as bone jarring as the ones used in the streets Since the pipe was located near a wall they told me the wall might need to be partially removed. Luckily they were able to reach the pipe without damaging the wall. The job was completed in about 6 hours. I was relieved because I thought it might have taken 1 or 2 days, in which case we would not have been bale to stay in our house while the work was done. Once the work was done they submitted an invoice which I forwarded to my homeowners insurance agent. The agent informed me that they could not pay the claim unless the bill was itemized.I was told at first Gold Medal did not provide that type of bill, but after some back and forth with Gold Medals Customer Service department they sent the itemized bill that the insurance agent required. Overall I am pretty happy with the whole transaction considering what a horrible job this was.
Description of Work: We live in a townhouse built on a concrete slab. we have no basement. We were having repeated drain line backups. The waste was coming up thru the drain in the kitchen sink, Gold Medal had come out a couple of times to clear out the blockage, We thought that we might have a sewer line problem, but after the third occurrence they sent a specialist with the camera to check out the drain lines. They discovered a broken pipe in the cement base, (within our unit). The jagged edges of the broken pVC pipe was causing toilet paper to catch on it and other waste coming behind was causing a barrier. They told us to repair the pipe they would need to access it, but the only way to reach it (it was about 4 feet below the surface) was to break up the cement with a jackhammer, repair the pipe, then repair the hole with fresh cement.

Terrible... Wasted my time scheduling the appointment, wasted my tenants time waiting in the 3:00 to 7:00 window. They give plumbers a bad name. I've got 10 apartments, and would have used Gold Medal for all of my future plumbing needs. All they had to do was show up and cleare a simple clogged kitchen sink. My search for a good, reliable, honest plumber continues...
Description of Work: Scheduled an appointment. I arranged for the tenants to be home. When they showed up, they couldn't find a parking space close enough to the house, so they left. Completely unprofessional and I would never attempt to use their services again.

My 11-years furnace (installed at the end of 2004) went dead at the coldest day of this winter, 2/13/2016, Saturday afternoon, the outside temperature is ZERO fahrenheit. Call Gold Medal at Saturday afternoon, they replied they won't have any technician available until midnight due to so many houses have same problems in area and asked if it's OK to come in Sunday morning. I have no problem with that and agreed. A technician came in late morning and started to troubleshoot the cause. Very soon, he identified the problem was caused by the dead inducer motor so he went upstairs to discuss the options and write the service report. Because of the dust in the filter pane, he suggested three options : 1. Replace the inducer motor and pressure switch while adding 1-year membership, $1,070. 2. Option #1 plus replacing the filter cabinet, $2,350. 3. Replace the inducer motor and pressure switch, ONLY. $770 I told him that I may consider to get a new system if option#1 & 2 are definitely needed since the membership would cost $299 for 1-year and a few years of membership would be needed to keep furnace running. He then suggest to have their comfort advisor come in to talk. He left with $74 check for the service call. Then their comfort advisor came to measure the house size and started to tell how the current furnace is over-sized and should be replaced. However, I know my furnace was carefully calculated by the original installer while I did verify thru online research. He listed three options : 1. High-end one, around $10K, don't remember exact number. 2. middle one, around $8K. 3. Low-end one, $6.6K. I told him that, with this amount of money, I can't make the decision right away. I will need to discuss with my family and do my home work first. What he responded is "Then, enjoy the cold!" and murmuring "I wish your pipe will break".. I was shocked to hear that and asked if that's the way he talks to his customers?! He replied with "you wish me to talk to you nicely?" I told him that's not the way I would do the business with. He then asked what price I would go while texting his office to get a lower number. I told him I just can't make the decision at this moment without knowing the real problem of my furnace and the options I could have. He then lower the number of option #3 to $4.5K and told me that number won't last long. I finally gave up the interest to continue and ended the discussion. I hope my case is extreme but well, my furnace is running great after we called up the other service company to replace a faulty parts, at cost of $440.
Description of Work: Identified the cause why furnace is not working.

After being led to believe my issue would be fully resolved by going with their suggested service of pipe bursting because we were unable to use any water due to the issues with the sewer line. Sadly I was mistaken (I have no knowledge of plumbing so I am taking an expert's advice on resolving my issue to COMPLETION). Be careful of the fine print. Anything verbal was retracted during sales process. Sadly before signing, they knew we were vulnerable and by stating "we will resolve your issue and we will do whatever it takes to get it working if this doesn't fix your problem", doesn't mean for the initial cost given which we were foolish to believe was included since 10k is expensive! After the whole job was finished, we thought we were good to go. About two weeks later, we are getting a backup again. They came out to camera it "again" (as we were told it was done initially before completion) and noticed the rest of the pipe was collapsed further down then what they replaced up to. But this is now considered a "separate" job for another 13k minimum cost (and won't tell us the price breakdown of the first job and why it was that high to begin with). Arguing that the pipe had to break in the following two weeks after job completion by trucks driving over the road. Realistically, I would believe forcing the new pipe into the old pipe from the original job OR jetting the pipe to get the rocks out that was found with the camera, would of smashed it since they didn't camera the rest of the pipe after it was completed the first time (No proof it was done). The hole was OPEN, why not camera the rest of it?!?!? Assumption was, since water flowed, it was fine. Laziness and wanted to rush through the job is my opinion due to it being a holiday. One of my favorite lines during the argument, "If we gave you a realistic price of 20k off the start of the job, you wouldn't have went with the job". Well, what the h***, if being honest and ethical, as a company, you should give the WHOLE story and cost up front so the customer can consider their budget. Had another company come out to look at the line and they don't understand why they would even suggest pipe bursting for this scenario. And still being ignorant, I have no idea if they are telling the truth. So now it will cost another 10k to redo the same pipe to be fixed FULLY to begin with. This time, I am making sure, it is WRITTEN in the contract that this will FIX the whole issue I am calling about!!!! Hate companies that take advantage of people in emergency situations. Positive Notes: Job was performed well and cleanup was decent. Basement re-cement looked clean and smooth. A lot of left over roots and trees but I do not believe removal was in the contract so not upset over the leftover remnants.

Had sewer line clog which backed into kitchen sink on 2/15. There was sewage that came up thru the sink drain. Called service and they responded promptly and informed me that the the tech would call between 3 and 7 pm. The weather that day was terrible in our area with freezing rain and ice, but the technician got here around 7 pm. He promptly informed me of what was to be done and quoted the price which I thought was reasonable. He cleared the clogged line and made sure all the drains were clear. He then CLEANED the sink!! Very satisfied with the service.

The valve replacement was done on time, professionally and within a reasonable price. So, for this part, they would get an A. However, the rest of the experience dragged the rating down. However, the quote to replace pipes and the heat system unit was 45% higher than other contractors. I was told by the estimator that if I was not financing there was some room in the numbers...there isn't going to be 40% so we chose not to do the work. He would not give us a detailed estimated even though we asked 3 separate times. Just a very vague description and a lump sum number. "Replace steam boiler, replace 1" pipe, chimney liner" and the number. Sketchy at best...which is a shame because Iw as thrilled with the service they DID provide and wanted to use them as my "guys" for plumbing needs.

They came and gave me a rate which ended up being far greater than what I would have liked to have paid. For less than two hours of work, they charged me $1000. But he told me what it was going to cost before the break and I was concerned because I had to leave for the weekend and it was late Friday evening. They did fix the problem. The cause of the frozen pipe was extremely cold weather obviously. But, part of the problem that didn't get resolved was that there wasn't enough insulation in there. The pipe itself was repaired but the insulation itself wasn't replaced. It may or may not have been a plumbing problem. But, it should have been something that they should have been very cognizant about. I called three or four other places on a Friday evening and they were the only ones that were responding with a live person.

The elctrician, Matt, arrived promptly and after reviewing the problem told us that because the Main Breaker and box was so old that it would take him 3 days to obtain a replacement breaker that had to be special ,ordered. Gold Medal offered an interim fix that cost $1300 which included the price of the old breaker or a new box for $3194 with a lifetime warranty. After, the job was completed and power restored, I went on the web to see if the installation had been properly priced and concluded that Gold Medal was priced higher than the upper end installation estimate. My wife has medical problems and I am 81, so whether or not this was proper pricing, we will never know. On the positive side, their electrician Matt is a nice guy, efficient and clean. He was able to complete the installation with a minimum amount of light in a little over six hours. Matt gave us a senior discount of 10% to bring the estimate from $3194 to the final price of $2875. Another plus was that Gold Medal contacted the town of Boonton and obtained (and paid for) the necessary permits. I contacted Gold Medal after the fact to tell them that they had advertised a 15% Senior Citizen Discount and asked them to make up the difference. They sent us a check for the difference and then some which has caused me to rethink some of my earlier crticisms of the company.
Description of Work: On 10/13/15 we lost all power in our house due to the main breaker blowing out. We had no service overnight and called Gold Medal the next day mainly because our primary electrician was out of town and Gold Medal advertised a lifetime warranty for their work. At this time , I believed that I only had to replace the Main Breaker.

Gold Medal is very, very expensive and they didn't really do the work that I wanted. I wasn't too impressed with them. Their prices were entirely too high and then the work that they did, it didn't hold up and I had to get somebody real quick to fix something that they should have did and it cost us a lot of money. The work that they did was more than the work that was needed. They kept saying oh, you need to do that and you need to do that and you need to do that. We had all this work done and it didn't hold up. That's why we'll never use them again. The work that we wanted them to do, it was separated out in the bill, was only about $1300. They convinced us we needed all this other work. Their follow through wasn't the top.

Positive--Call answered promptly, techs showed up when promised, work done well Negative--did not have required parts on truck, despite promising same over phone, high-pressure salesman, who asked a lot of nosy questions and seemed unhappy that all I wanted done was the motion detector/lights, VERY VERY expensive, but I needed the work done ASAP, since we were leaving for vacation Worst--the credit card I used was compromised the next week, and I suspect the Gold Medal tech was the one who used it to make purchases in North Jersey while we were away I would never use them again.

They arrived on time and were friendly and personable. They pumped out the water for free too. I don't know if that's normally expected or not. Unfortunately everything else reeked of a scam which is a real shame. They wanted me to replace my hot water heater for 3,000 dollars. Every comparable water heater on the market is around $800. They also offered to set up a french drain system for $12,000. They said I would be doing them a favor if I allowed them to come in on Saturday of that week because they had a cancellation so they would give me a discount to $11,000. This is a sales trick! I spoke to several companies afterwards and they all offered way less (some of them HALF of what gold medal was offering). Being friendly in a conversation and draining water does not make up for trying to scam me out of $8,000 . I originally signed on just in case he was telling the truth. I first made sure to verify that there was a no penalty cancellation policy. I called the very next day to cancel. I was told I would get my check back although they really tried to pressure me to leave my initial deposit check with them so they can "save my discount" for later in case I wanted them to do it in the summer. I was cordial and said that I appreciated the offer but that I definitely would prefer to have my deposit check back because I was canceling. They cashed my check anyway. I should have canceled it but I ignorantly thought they would do the right thing. Eventually after a few weeks of calling them they finally sent me back my money. Their pricing has made it so that I would never go to them for work again.

I needed a quote for kitchen remodeling work to move sink and add lighting. The service person named Paul showed and promised to email a quote the following Monday given that it was a Friday. Monday came and passed without a word from either the company or Paul. I called on Wednesday and they called Paul to find out what was going on. It is now Monday and I called and talked to the customer rep. They tried to do the same thing "call Paul and find out what is going on" I requested my money back and got this story that I have to speak to a supervisor before they return my money. I requested to speak to the supervisor and they were quick to say that he is in a meeting. They said that the supervisor will call. I got home it now about 8 PM and no call from any supervisor. If they cannot even deliver on the smallest things to make a lot more money I wonder how I can trust them to deliver on the work they would do. There is nothing gold medal about this company other than charge your card fast.
Description of Work: I called this provider stop bye and provide a quote for electrical and plumbing work. They informed me that for someone to come out and give me a quote it would cost $ 29. The person showed up and I informed them of my remodeling plans. They charged my credit card and promised to send me a quote in four days.

Rep arrived on time and as promised. By far this company spent the most time in my home and I estimate at least 1 hour. The Rep was friendly and knowledgeable and offered several options. I started to get that feeling one might get when buying a car as he tried to close the deal. The tactics included calling someone for 10% finance options, to discounts for cash options. They could not provide with any references and told me to go to Facebook and ask around which I did. I won't share that feedback here however if you interested I advise you to do the same. The rep was not allowed to leave any of the quote/pricing info with me...NOTHING! I decided not to go with this company for the following reasons: 1) Facebook feedback 2)Sales tactics 3) I felt I was going to be up sold a high efficiency hot water heater (long story but did you know you can buy one of these for just a little more than it costs to line your chimney?) I did not need lining thank you 4) trust - they could not leave with with anything showing what was discussed for 45 minutes.

In the evening hours, water began leaking from the pressure relief valve on the hot water boiler prior to the entire boiler shutting down. Because of the sub-freezing temperature, I spent the night heating water pipes to keep them from freezing and possibly bursting. The next morning I tried contacting about four plumbers and/or heating repair service companies, however, they did not repair my type of boiler anymore. I then contacted Gold Metal Service and made arrangements for a same day service. They arrived late, just outside of the three hour window they told me. When the service tech arrived, he immediately began his inspection. His diagnosis was a faulty water expansion tank, an incorrect pressure relief valve and shutoff valve in the wrong position. He then presented me with a quote for $1000+ dollars. I agreed to the price because I had a sick elderly relative living with me and I had concerns that the water pipes might freeze and burst. Furthermore, since it was about 6 p.m. in the evening, there was little chance that I could get another service tech to make the repairs that day. I believe the price was inflated because a year prior I had the expansion tank on my sister's boiler replaced for $300+ on a same day service.

The company was professional both over the phone and in person. The plumber was prompt and punctual. As above, it was very frustrating to be given an estimate for repair and not have the repair work. The plumber did mention that everyone normally replaces a hot water heater that is 14 years old, but as he is the expert, I wish he did not give an estimate for repair at all and state that he could only replace.
Description of Work: The provider sent a plumber for emergency repair on my hot water heater. I was given three estimates to replace the hot water heater and an estimate for repair. I went with the repair as prices for the replacement were well into the $2000 range and too much even for emergency repair. I decided to have the repair hold me over and then have my normal plumber replace when possible. The repair entailed replacing both elements and thermostats. The hot water heater did not work after the repair. The next day a different plumber arrived and stated I have to replace the water heater as it is leaking and most likely shorting out the heater. I was frustrated at this point and decided to not have Gold Medal replace the hot water heater and used my regular plumber instead.

So the problem was that the single handle pull in my shower was barely moving...it was stuck, and as a result, no flowing water. Unfortunately we needed to get it fixed that day. Gold Medal was one of the service providers that was actually able to come out, so we gave them a try. The scheduling went smoothly, and they came within the time frame that they said they would come. There was a charge to come out to assess the work, which was about 35 dollars or so...it was not too bad so I did consent since they were available. So the guy came, and took a look and told me that to replace the valve would cost me close to 500 dollars. Prior to me calling them, I did my research, and actually was able to determine that the valve needed to be replaced...I had gone to home depot and had bought the replacement part for 17 dollars. I tried doing this myself, but because of my lack of experience in plumbing, was afraid I would damage the pipes more and did not want to make a simple thing worse. So when he showed me their pricing that it would cost almost 500 to do this, I felt the life drain out of me. However, we needed it to get taken care of right away so out of sheer need, I had them do the work. To their credit, the guy who came out was excellent, and very professional and knowledgeable. The work was good. I'm ashamed to say that at least it gave me a little satisfaction to find him having difficulty with the replacement...took him an hour and a half...so that I didn't feel completely robbed. You have to understand on the best possible scenario, these valves (a small tube about 5 or 6 inches) are simple taken out and then just stick a new one in...which could be done in about 15 minutes. At any rate, the service guy was excellent, and so was the work that he did was good. The pricing was just a complete rip off. They charge about 2-3 times more than the average service provider. I would personally look elsewhere because their pricing system is just ridiculous. I just had them replace a small part. I don't want to think how much they charge for when it comes to bigger jobs. You can find other excellent plumbers out there with fair pricing. I would avoid Gold Medal unless you are desperate.

Work was completed correctly but the price was extremely expensive. The company prides themselves on punctuality because a have a large fleet of trucks. Hence there dispatcher notifies any drivers in a call area
Description of Work: Replace an exterior garden spigot with a new one. The service should not have been that expensive Gold Metal gave me a price to remove and install a 50 water heater for $2400.00. I contacted a local plumber and he charged me $1000..00 not including the permit. I will only use them as a last resort in an emergency The company personnel walk around wearing gold underwear.

I had a leak in a K-PEX line that i needed to have repaired. The plumber showed up, looked at the problem, a small nick in the line that turned into a leak, and noticed i had metric K-PEX. I asked him if that would be a problem and he indicated that it wouldn't be a problem. I did have two other companies out to give me an estimate, that wouldn't do the work because it was metric, and Gold Medal was the only one who would, but i didn't realize that this is how they would fix the problem He then took out his tablet, and i knew that i was in for trouble, and 485$ later he was ready to repair. During the discussion, he tried to sell me whole house protection, which would include some nonsense about leak tests on toilets, etc. for several hundred more a year. I declined. He then offered some other services, which i also declined. When he returned he had a brass fitting, two screw clamps, a screw driver, cutter, and a blow torch in his hands. I watched as he shut off the water, cut the line, used the blow torch to melt the K-PEX to jamb the fitting in, and clamp it shut with screw clamps. K-PEX uses high pressure fittings and this guy was obviously not qualified. I called to complain and they claimed there was nothing they could do. they offered me free service for the future, or a free year of protection, which i declined. They said in his defense that the line was metric and he couldn't get parts, to which i replied, why do the work at all. I filed a claim againt them as i had used AMEX, and i am glad that i did, they reduced the price to the price of parts which was 22$. I will never use them again, and neither should you. .
Description of Work: repaired a leak in a K-PEX pipe.

Not well. I spent $69 on them to have a salesman in my house which is fairly irritating. I have two fully functioning AC units with no problem at all. They advised I should meet with another of their "salespeople" that they call comfort specialists (or something) to talk about an estimated (min) $8,000 to $20,000 replacement of one of my HVAC units. They present you with a bunch of checklists that you can use to determine what should be done on every system in your house with the obvious underlying objective of selling you everything they possibly can. I would never call this place, don't waste your time.
Description of Work: I called to get an estimate on adding some additional ducting and balancing my two fully functional AC units. The "salesman" that showed up went through the house and then advised me that one of the two AC units was about 12 years old and "builders grade" and should be replaced.
