The invoice for the restoration job was misleading. We had to contact the worker performing the restoration twice to get an itemized bill with the actual costs. Once we saw this, we had some problems with the billing. We were not told that chemical treatments were charged for the entirety of the square footage of a room, even though a small portion of the room was actually affected (i.e. they would charge for 400 square feet of chemical treatment even though < 20 square feet were actually treated). We were overbilled for a piece of equipment that was never deployed, and we were charged for four hours of work even though the worker spent less than one hour over two days in our home for setup and breakdown of equipment. We initially brought our grievances to the company by calling their office. We attempted to call the owner given some of his posts on this website to call him personally. The office staff did pick up the phone, but gave us the runaround for over two weeks. For example, we were told the restoration worker did his own billing and did not actually work for Gold Medal, even though the man clearly wore a Gold Medal uniform, drove a Gold Medal truck, and eventually submitted a Gold Medal invoice to us. We were also told that in order to have his invoice reviewed, that we would have to take this up with him personally, and that their main office would not become involved. In addition, every time we spoke with someone in the billing office, we were told that she "was very busy" and "had to go to a meeting" every time - whether the conversation happened at 9:00 in the morning, 10:30 in the morning, 1:30 in the afternoon, or 4:00 in the afternoon. We ended up getting the BBB involved in the case - only then did we hear back from the restoration worker who then had the bill reviewed. Not once did we hear back from the main office. This process above took over two months, with in excess of 10 phone conversations with Gold Medal and five emails sent to the restoration worker regarding updates on the review process. Before hiring this company, you should know that: 1) The work done will be good, but as this company intends to be a concierge service (this was stated to us by an employee of the company) - expect that they will be significantly more expensive than their competition. 2) If you run into problems with this company, know that the main office does not respond to complaints and will refer you to the work crew that came to your home.
Description of Work: We've used Gold Medal 3 times and purchased their Gold Medal customer plan twice. In total we have spent $6,100 over a few years and were happy with the quality of the work and the professionalism of the workers until this most recent job. We knew they were expensive, but we used them again because they were available in emergency situations and did the work well. Specifically, the work done was for a plumbing emergency. The problem was fixed, but as a result, we were told that cleanup was necessary due to "raw sewage spilled" and were persuaded to use their company's restoration services. The restoration job was done, but this additional job cost 5 times that of the original repairs. We were shown a brief rundown of the processes that needed to be done, but did not receive an itemized bill on the date of service (this we only realize in hindsight). Although we signed for the work, we weren't given much of a choice.

Had a problem with an electrical circuit at my home. I called and got a rough estimate and scheduled the repairs. I received a confirmation call but the service was incorrect, they were going to send a plumber. After correcting that misunderstanding everything went as planned. The technician arrived on time, after about 45 minutes of diagnostics he finally identified the problem, explained what he found and what he was going to do to fix it. He fixed the problem. They are more expensive than others but I believed they do a good professional job. They up-sell their maintenance services and other stuff. This is the first time that I have used them and will probably use them in the future.

The technician (Jimmy Nann) was very professional and identified the issue very quickly. He also recommended an approach which was the most cost effective. He snaked the main sewer line to the house from the outside which revealed the blockage of clorox wipes! While in the house he wore shoe covers and was very courteous. Also, he let us know of other services provided without being too pushy about them. The issue was remediated immediately. It was expensive but I am not surprised by this as it was in line with what other people who have needed to have this work done told us (most people who have had the work done said to expect $500) We did have to call Gold Medal at 2.30 as we had not heard when they might arrive and we were told they were behind schedule. It would have been good if they had proactively let us know.
Description of Work: We have a septic tank system and it backed up into the house on Thanksgiving weekend. We checked the septic tank filter ourselves and cleaning it didn't fix the issue. We also contacted other companies who told us they would not deal with the issue and another company came out and then decided that septic systems were not in their scope of services even though the issue was in the pipes in the house. We finally called Gold Medal who told us they would be with us Sunday between 12 and 3.

Next day response. Completed all work within 2 days. Work seems to be good quality. I was originally billed for $4,597. They refused to give me a detailed price breakdown to justify that amount, protesting that "Our pricing is provided on a Lump Sum basis. Multi-task discounts are provided and a 5 year warranty is included." (I never received any specific warranty description and am still awaiting paperwork regarding permits.) When I protested that the pricing was excessive and unjustified and when I persisted, we eventually agreed on $4000 total. My conclusion: They do good work and are often available on an emergency basis. But they overcharge and refuse to be accountable for their extremely high prices.
Description of Work: Removed existing subpanel and installed new 100 amp Cutler Hammer Main Service Panel. Installed New Meter Pan & Service Drop with Copper Service Feeder, including 45’ of PVC Riser. Installed "Deluxe Grounding."

Contacted another Angieslist plumber (Ericsons Remodeling and Drain Cleaning) and when told Eric about the situation he said he would be out within the hour. Review of Ericsons to follow.
Description of Work: Contacted them on Saturday, October 27 about major backup in drainage system. They were very vague whether they could come out that day, or Sunday, or Monday. Knowing that Hurricane Sandy was coming and having sump pumps in the basement I was worried they would kick in and flood the upper level since this is where the drainage was coming out. Contacted them on Sunday and still wouldn't commit to coming out. Finally, called back and said they would be out Monday and would call back from 9 AM to noon. I called them early Monday AM stating my concern again. They stated they would have the plumber call me back. Never did. Finally, called back and they told me I was on the list but couldn't confirm a time. Again, stated my concern but still no commitment. 10 minutes later they called back and said they wouldn't come out today. Never use them for anything!

Contacted Gold Medal Services and asked for an estimate for installation of a gas shutoff valve. The operator indicated that they cannot give quote or rate per hour over the phone as they work on per job basis and will provide estimate in person. After setting up the appointment, the operator said that it will be $49 for the tech to come by but the fee is applicable to the cost of the job. Didn't think much to it so I agreed to it. The service tech showed up on time and was very pleasant, but it goes all downhill from there. I explained the job to him and he said he will work on a quote. Come back in to the house 10 minutes later. Start selling me on all these membership packages that can cost up to $700 -$800. If I only want the job done, it will be about $450. Right away, I said this is no more than an hour job, and a regular plumber typically charges about $150. At that point, the service tech said that he can use the online coupon (typical BS) and drop the price to about $350, but that's about it. I told him the price was outrageous, and that they are overcharging, he apologized and said that the company has to charge a certain rate and that if I can find someone else to do that job cheaper, then go ahead and that he cannot match that rate.... However, he will still need to charge me $49 for the estimate. I paid him for the estimate and sent him away. About a week later, I called another plumber on Angie's List and got the job done for $110. (About 40 minutes of work) Here's my take on Gold Medal Services. Yes, they acted professional and the service tech are well trained. However, the prices (They also quoted me on replacing an toilet for about $750 - $1500 while they were at my house) are extremely high and whether you chose to let them do the job for you or not, they still make that $49 off you anyway (don't buy into that cost of business BS). Look around on Angie's List for other service tech that can do a great job for you at a much better rate.

I went in to great detail in story above. We alo had them for plenty of plumbing work and it was the only time we never had to call someone back to have it redone and of course, plenty of others didn't even show up. This company even calls right before they come, so you know exactly when they will arrive to the best of their ability.
Description of Work: This was an Emergency Visit after a neighbors tree fell on our house after a freak winter storm. It had ripped down oue electrical box etc. This was shortly after we had the entire thing updated and redone shortly before. We also had hot water heater replaced first time. They were prompt & courteous and very understanding to the ironic situation that they had to almost redo it all over again. We had David several times before and after many other electricians & couldn't believe our luck. They explained everything each time they came and whether it's plumbing, electrical or whatever your needs are, they are there as fast as possible. The first time, I couldn't sleep at night because our electrical system was hot to touch and sparking. They came that day and continued the next day. When the tree fell shortly afterwards, they couldn't have been nicer!!! I joined their membership which allows free checking of heating and cooling for appropriate season. Plus no ost to walk in for an estimate. I guarantee you, one won't be disappointed in this group, no matter who they send out. The even worked in 100 degree heat to get it done!

came promptly and installed faucet but sprayer does not work, installer stated he tried to install it several ways. when i wrote about the experience on an email list at work the owner began a campaign of harassment via telephone. he gave me an outrageous estimate for other work which fortunately was not an urgent issue like having a kitchen faucet that works. As evidenced by all the negative reviews and rebuttals by Gold Medal, the work is not substandard. What they wrote in rebuttal to my review is not accurate. They wanted to sell me a faucet for an exorbitant amount of money to replace the one that was and quot;faultyand quot; from the manufacturer. Subsequently, I have the same faucet working by another plumber. They called me after I posted the review to and quot;try and work something outand quot;, but following the service it was just a barrage of harassment.

Unfortunately, the customer has not correctly nor completely recalled the repair as it actually took place. The cusotmer provided us with the kitchen faucet to installed. When we installed the customer purchase faucet, we discovered that the sprayer did not work. We offered to remove the faucet and have the customer return for a refund at the place of purchase. However, the customer did not want to be inconvenienced at the time. When this review was place more that THREE years after the work was installed, we at Gold Medal were very surprised of the content. I contacted GMS the day before I needed the work performed. time estimate was between 12 - 3PM. Their dispatcher called me in the morning to confirm the appointment time, called me at 12PM to provide a more specific estimate and then a final call 15 min before Matt, the technician, arrived. Both jobs were completed quickly and Matt was highly professional, organized and knew his stuff! An "A" grade from start to finish!

We called Gold Medal when our furnace blew on Christmas Eve. They were the only electrician we could find that could do the service that day. As a result, we paid way more for the service than needed, but it was worth it to have heat for Christmas. Last month, we needed additional electric work, and I called Gold Medal for an estimate. The estimate for our work ranged from $1,500 for 'what we needed' to almost $4,000 for their 'recommended solution.' AND, we had to pay $50 for them having drawn up the estimate. Ridiculous. They could have a whole business on just inflating estimates at $50 a pop, and never doing any actual work. We called a local electric company and had the SAME EXACT work done for $290. I'm giving Gold Medal a C because they did work on Christmas Eve, and I say that I will use them again because I could imagine getting stuck on a holiday again, but I would never call them for work that wasn't immediate.

I had several things that I wanted them to do. I needed them to do some work with our toilet bowl. Instead of just fixing the problem, they wanted to install a whole new thing. So, it seems that they don’t repair, they just want to install everything all new, and of course, the homeowner pays for all that. They aren’t very responsive, so I dropped the contract I had with them.
Description of Work: I had them give me an estimate to give me a new faucet for my sink—not a new sink, just the faucet. They gave me an estimate of $600! I told them that I could get a new faucet at Home Depot for $100, so they were charging $500 for labor. I think they were just taking advantage because this is a senior community. I told them not to even bother calling me about service, because they are way over-priced.

I had seven different visits from this company. Each time, two men would come out. The seventh guy got it right. They let me know that I should forget about paying the rest of the money. The sensor lights did not even work. Another guy came out and fixed it. The other day, they called me and were being nasty and let us know that I owed them money and that we were way past due. No one let me know that I still owed them that money and they never let me have a chance to get back at them. They were just out of line. They let me know if I don't pay the $239, they will be taking me to court. It took seven visits in order for them to get it right. I was very dissatisfied. John and Paul were the only workers that took their time and let me know that I didn't have to pay the extra money.
Description of Work: They were supposed to install floodlights and sensors in our yard. They gave me a quote for $439 (too much to begin with) and I gave them a $200 deposit and they wrote up the paperwork. They went to home depot to get the lights.

After hurricane Irene, a new hot water heater and furnace were installed, price way too high, wrong size furance, they told me I needed new duct work in a new building to make it work properly, finally 3 months later put the correct size in, did not finish the work for another 3 months, after alarms went off. Just charged my credit card with out authorization for work I never ordered. Will never use again, thinking of talking to an attorney.

I called Gold Medal last week to schedule an AC PM and recharge/repair and to install new supplies to an addition and replace a hot water heater on a home I recently purchased. Their ads in the phone book, website, and customer service folks all appeared very professional. I registered on their website and received a welcome email from the owner Mike. I was told I would receive a call the night before but it never came. On the morning of my appt I received a call at 935 but no voicemail was left. I called back 3 minutes later and when the rep looked up my address she didn't have any information. She put me on hold in an attempt to reach the service manager Steve. She returned, unable to reach him and said she would continue to try and call me back. After a half hour I called back in, reached the same rep who said Oh, they were trying to call to reschedule due to the weather. I asked which weather? She replied The rain. I stated it was sunny here. Then she said well its because its because its below 70 degrees. Again not true. I said this was very unprofessional considering I gave them a weekand lsquo;s notice and had to burn a day of vacation from work to be here. She said sorry but nothing more. No offer to reschedule, no perk for inconvenience, no txfr to a manager to discuss, just a lame excuse. This appears to be yet another contractor who baits customers with low price but will only perform when there is nothing else to do or they are just incompetent and cannot manage a schedule. I cannot comment on the quality of their work since they never showed up.

Bad first experience. Never calling them again.
Description of Work: We called them for plumbing work in our master bath. However the technician suggested that we rather remodel the bathroom. Another technician came up the same day. He was professional and courteous. He provided us a written estimate the same day and told us to go over the estimate and he will follow-up in couple of days. We setup a time for Thursday 3/22 at 7pm. Note that this guy was very particular in making an appt for an exact time, 7pm, so he could have my full attention when he calls for follow-up. Needless to say I was very impressed with this sort of professionalism. But then Thursday came and went and nothing happened. one more week passed by and still nothing. I called back the 800# to follow-up and the receptionist told me he will have the tech call me back. The tech called back and then told me the appt he made was for 3/29 rather than 3/22. And he started arguing about it. On the phone the guy was totally opposite of what I saw him in person. Obviously, I declined to use them for the remodeling project. If they cannot be punctual before the sale, how I can trust them to deliver as promise once I have committed to it. I don't think I will ever call on them again to provide any service at my house.

I was sorry I ever called this place. Never again. I felt ripped off and had to hire a real plumber to fix the leaking sink.
Description of Work: They were to give 2 estimates. By the way, they charge for doing estimates. One estimate was for a dryer hook up. I paid for them to tell me they would need to charge me $700.00 to give an actual estimate. The second estimate was for a leaking sink. They charged me for a repair however the sink still leaked. A manager told me he would send someone back out and he would personally call me to follow up. Never heard from him again. RUN from this company.

I had to have them come out because I had bugs coming through my vents whenever I turned on my air/heat. They told me to keep my system on for 72 hours to filter out the bugs and then put cheese cloth over the vents to catch the bugs. This didn't fix the problem and had a pest control company to come out and they can't spray into the duct system. UPDATE: We have resolved the issue.

Called for service early in day when we realized our refrigerator was not running. Circuit breaker was thrown and I could not get it to stay on. Getting the refrigerator back on was critical. Gold Medal did not show up until around 8:00 PM...by then we could not expect to get anyone else in until morning! No one would discuss price with us until the repair man was inside our house, by then we had our backs against the wall. The repair man began explaining that they charged in "tiers" and was unclear exactly how long a tier was, but he was clear in recommending that we begin by choosing the 2nd. tier for his labor: Tier #1 = $300.00 !!! Tier #2 = $600.00 (approx.) LONG STORY SHORT - We ended up paying 300.00 to have two wires reversed! I identified the circuit for him additionally - I had only 2 lines on the circuit! The refrig. on one and the in-house phone on the other! It took him 5min. to located which of the 2 recepticles it was and another 5 min. to fix it! He made sure to get our signatures on a contract BEFORE he started. His paperwork took longer than the repair! All this finished, he tried to sell us a job that would replace our heater, hot water heater, air conditioner,oven and cook top!!! I guess that "technically" he, and those he represented, were just this side of dishonest and managed to be just deceitful on most items, but taken all together, they sure seem crooked to me!!!! I called their office the next day and the bosses were supposed to call me back, never heard from them and now I don't care to. Thanks for the venting, hope this will warn others off.
Description of Work: Two wires on a kitchen recepticle were reversed, causing a ' short '. These two wires had to be reversed.

It looks superb. They are a plumbing company, but they also do bathroom and kitchen remodeling. They don't subcontract the work. Everyone including the electrician, plumber, tile person all work for the same place. So it's not like there is a general contractor that is subcontracting out. They are all in the same place. I am told that they take courses and so forth. There's one person who comes out and gives all the information and estimates. We can either look in a catalog to choose our bathroom or we can go to our own place and pick our own tiles and so forth. If we use their place we get a 10% discount on materials. They give us a list with budgets. They don't push any products on us. We got some very good things that we thought would work together in the bathroom. I liked that very much. They listen to us. They are very nice and very cooperative. Since they are professionals they understand what we are talking about. We have to be very specific because they write everything down and go out to get the materials. Their price is a little high, but I think they're worth it. They said we could call them if there was a problem.

It went well. The first technician arrived within an hour of my calling (3:45pm). He worked on the main line for 2 hours, but realized the problem was more than a one man job. He made arrangements for a two main team to arrive first thing the next day. Anthony and his helper arrived on time and then fought the battle to save Christmas. They got things flowing in about 4 hours and put the "Merry" back in our Christmas. Awesome! Year after year we rely on GM. Professionalism, expertise and courtesy every time. 2 years ago Anthony came and put in a new water heater for us - it happened to be our anniversary. He did a great job. The next day he showed up with a cake.
Description of Work: Cleared the main drain line from the house to the street. It was blocked by tree roots at each junction of the 60 yr old clay pipe. They snaked it for 4 hours to clear the drain.
