Gold Mark came initially and told the woman of the house that she had a very expensive toilet (Kohler) and that it was going to be expensive to fix. The word and quot;expensive was brandied about for at least 6 - 7 times. She overheard the person on the phone tell the mechanic to get a deposit of $50.00 for the part - he responded that and quot;they were good for at least $100.00and quot; (By-the-way the Kohler valve actually costs $67 on Amazon.) Then they came two days later and installed the part - while flooding my downstairs and getting water all over my gym equipment in my cellar. I had to provide towels in the bathroom where the toilet was located to sop up the water because the guy did not understand that he needed to get all the water out of the tank before taking the valve at the bottom of the tank out of the socket. The mechanic told me that the toilet was very inefficient and was old technology - (as you read this you should understand that I had my bathrooms completely refinished in 2003 with high-efficiency water-saving technology and this is 2013!) Also as he was performing the installation he told me that the valve under the toilet was broken and would cost $350 to repair, but I could save $50 by signing up for their annual service. So we did and that was that. (Fat chance I am ever letting them back into my home!) Then two days later the toilet failed again with the same problem - water kept running all night. So we called the next day and asked that they come and fix it - At this point I had paid $100 + $578 and the toilet was still not fixed. They told us that they could not come for a week. But the lady of the house was quite adamant that they come right away. They came the next morning when they told us they could not come before 1:00PM. For this second repair they then installed a flowtec valve (cost at Amazon $17) that requires us to hold the handle down until we hear it flush completely. Not what I would have expected for $678! When we asked if the valve he installed was as good as the Kohler valve, he replied and quot;It's better!and quot; Even though in order to get the toilet to flush properly I have to hold the handle down continuously until the flush is complete. In all fairness it does fill the tank in less than 1 minute, but for $678? I could have bought a new toilet for that sum. So these people are not truthful, perform shoddy work and take advantage of women and I suggest that you avoid them at all costs - no pun intended!

I have used them in on a commercial property numerous times and they are ALWAYs punctual - courteous - always go out of their way - provide a detailed quote - clean up after them selves - and do top work - even one time the day after christmas when they replaces a heating system (complete) in 24 hours....You get what you pay for with Gold Medal - highest reccomendation.

Did not use the materials specified in contract. Used ones of lesser quality. Did not fix leak which was the reason for the renovation. Did not connect the plumbing properly. We had to have the bathroom redone over again. Company refused to redo the crappy job they did. President of company just told us to sue him. He said ," I have more money than you. I can keep you in court until I bankrupt you." Typical NJ company with unskilled workers doing plumbing and electrical work using the one license of the President of the company.

It did not Was told that I needed a completely new toilet. And because it was in a specialty color the job would cost 1600.003eThe color is almond. Wanted to give me a 5 year warranty on the toilet. At the 1600 price. I was quoted this because I live in Florida and the plumbing was at the house in New Jersey Used another company only a wax seal replaced Huge rip off

It went very smoothly. I called the company, requested an appointment for an estimate to replace the central a/c and furnace. I made it clear that time is of the essence, and asked that, assuming I hire them, could they do the work by a certain date. They assured me that was no problem. The salesman arrived the next day, gave me a written estimate. I signed the contract, paid the deposit $, and scheduled the appointment for service. They arrived promptly on the scheduled date and completed the work that day (stayed until 6:30pm). The service was prompt, professional and they did what they promised to do. The only reason I gave a and quot;Band quot; instead of and quot;Aand quot; is that it was very expensive. I would use them again.

Technicians Carlton and Jim were responsive to our expectations. Carlton went above and beyond to not only repair the fan and light timer, but also to make sure the end result was exactly what we wanted. Technicians were pleasant, professional, and listened to our concerns without making us feel rushed. While we may pay more for this service, we get great follow up and attention to detail that we haven't found elsewhere.
Description of Work: Technicians returned on several occasions to repair appliances not operating correctly. Time and attention was given to us to our satisfaction. Repaired outside light timer, whole house fan and gable attic exhaust fan.

They are very very good and their price is reasonable. They were there on time and got the work on time. I was very happy with them.
Description of Work: I used Gold Medal Electrical Contractors for heating and air conditioning services. My air conditioner was low on freon, they fixed it and within 24 hours, it was fine. They also put in a new heater and a new air conditioner for me.

I have to admit the system works good. My major problem is that after they installed the duct work, I could no longer use my attic. They had no prior planning or consideration for the installation. All my personal items stored in the attic were now cutoff by duct work. After FOUR phone calls, they finally came out and rearranged the ducting. And to top it off they were supposed to be there between 9-12, but did not show up until 1:00. When all was said and done, I am moderately satisfied with the installation.
Description of Work: I purchased a Lennox air conditioning system Gold Medal Services and I also contracted them to replace the ducting in the attic.

Outstanding. Amazing attention to detail. No detail left undone. Professional, personable, efficient, thorough. Great job from start to finish.
Description of Work: Snake out main sewer lateral, remove root clog. Camera inspection of the lateral. Full replacement of collapsed section of pipe, replacement of additional damaged section of pipe. Camera inspection out to the town's sewer main. Installed new house trap as required by local code. Installed new cleanouts and vent. Obtained all permits and inspections. Backfilled and cleaned up when the work was done. Replaced section of sidewalk removed during excavation. Overall........Gold Medal promptly treated the issue as urgent. They came out immediately and stayed until the job was done and returned the next day to finish a few last details. Gas leaks are dangerous and we felt we had the work done by professionals.
Description of Work: Install a gas shut-off valve and 20' CSST Gas Line. The work was necessitated due a gas leak. NJ Natural Gas was called, came to the premises and issued a 'red' tag. We subsequently contacted Gold Medal and they came out immediately and began necessary repairs. Framing work was being done in the laundry room to enclose a Rinnai water heater and a vent line. The day the leak was detected It was presumed that a stray nail from the contractor's nail gun penetrated the gas line. The contractor, All In One Handyman, Little Egg Harbor, NJ was no help in resolving the matter. Upon learning of the large repair bill indicated he 'was sorry'. We were sorry too to the tune of $1,500.00. He indicated after the fact that had we brought the matter to his attention in lieu of contacting Gold Medal he could have had made arrangements for it to be repaired. In light of the circumstances we no longer wished to have anything to do with All In One Handyman.

We had been experiencing brown outs in the late fall and needed someone quickly. Matt came out within 48 hr (only because no one would be home before then). Once Matt arrived, I told him about the brown outs and that I needed to also have a 220 V line run for a new double oven. He quickly identified the problem to the brown outs: a sycamore tree branch had grown over the line from the street to the house. Once Sandy hit (and the blizzard, and the nor'easter) the movement of the limb had sheared the line. Thank God it didn't cause the hose to burn down. Matt then got his trusty book out and wrote up an estimate to have the mains repaired, and to have a new service panel installed to replace the under-powered panel from the 1950s (glass fuses). Once he showed me the numbers, he also made a suggestion: call the power company and see if they would fix the problem. If not, then the quote would still be good and he'd come out and take care of the issues. Well, the power company did come out (saving us $1500). To me, this was worth whatever and quot;higher costsand quot; are associated with Gold Medal (from other on-line review sites). To make things even better for us, Mike (Manager of our Gold Medal) offered 12 months same as cash to cover the remaining $5,500 for the service panel and installation for the oven. Life and the holidays got in the way, so I procrastinated a few more months. Mike reached out and asked about the installation (were we still interested), confirmed the payment plan, and still honored a quote that was by now 6 months old. I hate being jacked around by companies: Gold Medal doesn't do this. You are given a price, and they stick by it. When repairing a 130 year old house, we need a reliable company. Gold Medal will continue to do our electrical and plumbing.

The woman on the phone was very courteous and told me they could indeed get a plumber out that evening, and that he would call 30-45 minutes before he arrived. He did and he was very polite and courteous, even dropped a floor mat inside the door to wipe his feet. Nice show. After showing him the faucet and where to turn the water off, he then proceeded to inquire about other plumbing work we might need done, such as replacing washing machine hoses. I told him I just wanted the tub faucet fixed. After stepping outside to work up the quote, he came back in with an estimate that was nearly 2.5 times what I'd paid just 9 months prior to have the same cartridge replaced (another story why it went bad again). I had a pretty good idea what's involved in replacing the cartridge too. When I told him I'd recently had it fixed for much less, he studied his estimate a moment, then asked how much I had paid. I think he was looking to reduce the estimate. But at that point, I wanted nothing to do with the company. After I paid their $51 service call fee and showed him out the door, he sat in his truck out front for nearly 1/2 hr. I imagine he was waiting for his next call, but I didn't like it. I specifically asked when I booked the appointment if there was a surcharge for an emergency appointment and was told there wasn't. My husband was not at home during the appointment. Was Gold Medal hoping I wouldn't recognized the exorbitant cost? I shared the story with my regular plumber who was finally able to come on Monday, and he said he'd heard similar stories from other customers.
Description of Work: My bathtub faucet was dripping (filling 4 cup container in 1/2 hr). The cartridge probably needed to be replaced. It was a Friday evening and my regular plumber was not available. With water and money flowing down the drain, my husband remembered Gold Medal from their t.v. commercials, so I called them. I should've checked their rating on Angie's List before calling.

The salesman was prompt and spent a significant amount of time with my wife and I discussing the options. He was unwilling to provide a proposal instead insisting on a follow up visit to review the proposed work. I was able to get a proposal from him by calling the main 800 number only to find that the proposal excluded major items discussed. Their pricing once all the work was included was not competitive with other proposals received and the effort to get the proposal in writing was frustrating.

Called in to Gold Medal Service on April 11, 2013 for leaky sink........gave an immediate appt. Plumber as scheduled (late afternoon). Problem was leaky garbage disposal. Michael Kuchie (plumber) took pictures before and after repairs, explained options (new disposal, no disposal, price, warranties, etc.). Felt the price was high. Mike said he would come back (the service call for today would be taken off the next visit) and he did not pressure me. I am a senior citizen. Mike was respectful and patient. I called my daughter. She called a plumber who said the price was high, but not exorbitantly so. Mike took off a senior citizen discount. My daughter said to get it done as the dishwasher and sink could be used. My invoice no. was 218 288. I would call Gold Medal again, but check my prices first. Mike was efficient, fast and neat...very thorough in explaining everything he was doing..documented everything he did and said in photos and writing. Don't know if all staff is as thorough as Mike.

Six years ago, we bought a furnace from Gold Medal and had it installed by them. Over the years, they performed service on it, and this winter it stopped working. The furnace is in a TRUE crawl space, and when we call for service, we always remind them of that fact, even though they did the install! When the first serviceman got here he refused to crawl under the house, stating he needed people of other ethnicities to do that crawling! After several phone calls to the company, another service technician was dispatched late that night. He told us that the entire furnace was ruined and needed to be replaced. They sent a salesman the next day, and he quoted an outlandish price, and did not care that the unit was only 6 years old and was ruined. He then applied less than honorable salesman techniques of telling us we needed to sign up to right then and there for the service call. Not sure how he sleeps at night, as he was not willing to work with us at all on a price for a new unit even though this was only 6 years old. We subsequently got 3 other estimates who came in UNDER the final price of Gold Medal who were SO MUCH higher when they first started than any other company. We then finally found a true plumber who fixed the unit for $7000.00 LESS than the Gold Medal salesman, and explained exactly what the problem was. It was an awful experience and it happened during a very cold week, so we were worried about pipes bursting and other damage and we initially agreed to Gold Medal's price until we found an honest worker who fixed it for one tenth of their asking price. Never call them again for anything! First the anti-semetic remarks and then the outrageous unnecessary pricing!

Hope these guys are removed from Angie's List and nobody else has to go through what we did.
Description of Work: DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!! HAD TO CALL THE POLICE! Service person was rude since he walked in. Wanted to charge $300 to fix a toilet. The problem was not fixed after he did the repair and we said we would not pay as the issue was not resolved. He then took apart the toilet so that it was not operational and left it completely unusable. We had to call the police to get this man to leave the house. These people should not be in business and give Angie's List a bad name.

They were expensive but showed up when promised and the work was done well. After Hurricane Sandy I called them to inspect my house and gas service and reconnect the gas. Again they showed as promised and performed the inspection and re connection as required by the Borough at no additional charge as part of my service contract. The promptness and service meant a lot to me after being out of my house in a hotel for 2 months. The service people at both visits were exceptionally professional and courteous.
Description of Work: This company replaced an electric service in the fall and I also purchased a service contract. In December they came and inspected the gas service and reconnected the gas as required by the Gas Co and Borough.

Our furnace was working intermittently, and since Gold Medal did the sale and installation of the unit, we called them for service of the unit. I fully explained that the furnace is under the house in a TRUE CRAWL SPACE! (One would think they would know that since they sold it and installed it) However, when the technician got here, he REFUSED to crawl under the house saying that he was too big. He then said that he would call his company for a technician of another ethnicity because those guys are smaller, and he left. I called them back and asked the dispatcher if anyone else was scheduled for the call and she could not answer. I asked if I should call another company and she advised me that I had to do what I had to do, because you know, it's cold out! So I did do what I had to do, and called another company. I am waiting for the other company now. Gold Medal finally called me back and apologized, telling me that they would have someone here in an hour or so. I explained that I no longer needed their services since I had to do what I had to do, and how awful it was to hear their technician say the company would have to get people of another ethnicity because they are smaller in size. He profusely apologized, but we decided to choose another company that we found on Angie's List today.
