Westview Masons and Basement Waterproofing

I am sorry to say that we had a very bad experience with John. He installed 2 sump pumps in our basement but he cut the floaters. I don't know why he did that. They are on/off switches in sump pumps, but we didn't realize all that. We were overseas when a heavy rain came and the pumps didn't work properly. We had a major flooding and much damage. The basement flooded by almost 2 feet because the pumps worked for 30 seconds and didn't work for two minutes.... because of the missing floaters. We paid him $2000 for the job, whereas our losses from the flooding were $5000. The basement is finished and has a computer, tv, etc. etc. Clothes, all my husband's shoes, college textbooks ($$), and more. The sheetrock walls and doors, all that had to go. I called him to ask him to come and see the work. He never returned my many phone calls. The local plumbing store went mum on John - they don't know where to find him.. I don't believe it, of course. I find it very dishonest and sad. He is the kind of a professional who disappears when he has made a mistake. Maria

Went wonderfully. John and his crew were professional. They left the space cleaner than when they came. They even fixed a few other minor issues, contributing to the overall moisture issue we were having. I would highly recommend for any masonry or waterproofing. One of the most honest and straightforward contractors i have ever used.

When we purchased our house, the town required us to switch the asphalt driveway apron to a concrete one. They also wanted a lifted sidewalk slab replaced for safety reasons. We have 30 days from the point of occupancy to fix them. We got multiple quotes from other contractors and John's was by far the most reasonable. He was so easy to work with. He got me a quote the very next day, emailed to me. And as soon as I told him it was a go, he had it done within the week. A few of our quotes were near in price to John's, but his responsiveness and quick work schedule had us sold. The concrete work is perfect! Would definitely hire him again to do our walkway. Thanks!

I contacted Westview asking for someone to come out to give me an estimate. The phone call went well enough. I described the work I needed, they said they could do it. They were located in the next town over and as luck would have it they were also working on a home 5 or 6 houses down from me. So when I spoke to them they said they'd be working on the other house the next day anyway and would come down to give me the estimate and leave it in my mailbox and I wouldn't even need to be home. When I got home that day there was no estimate or sign that they had been there. I called them back the next day and left a message to find out if they would be coming back or if they maybe were dropping the estimate in the mail. I got no response. I tried one more time the day after that and unfortunately once again no response. Not much else I can do. Sadly they didn't want the business. I try to use local contractors as much as possible but I can't really do that when they don't call you back.

The crew was great . Punctual and very professional. The owner was great very responsive and knowledgeable about what need to be done when presented with the problem. They also cleaned up nicely after all work was completed.

We are so happy with the work John McGowan and his crew did for us. They waterproofed our basement and garage, and this involved major repairs to the walls (house built in 1929), plus painting with special anti-mold paint. The basement that looked like a real eyesore now looks good enough to live in! The crew took special care to protect the items that were important to us, which we so appreciated. We also had the team repair our brick steps and flagstone walkway. A wonderful all-around job and we would highly recommend Westview.

John came by and gave me what I thought was a very fair price for the work. He and his team showed up as promised, and did a very impressive, first quality job. I would use them again in a heartbeat, and would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone in the Northern NJ area.

I was extremely pleased with the entire project. I had been anxious about having this work done, and had interviewed several different companies. I feel very fortunate that Westview Masons had been recommended by a friend. From the beginning, I was comfortable with John Mc Gowan and the plan he suggested. In the end, I was very pleased with the professionalism of his crew, their punctuality, knowledge, how well they cleaned up afterwards, and their price proved to be very reasonable. They even did a few things over and above what we originally discussed. I would definitely use them again or recommend them to others.

The people who work with John are incredibly respectful and clean (considering all the cement,rocks and cutting) The guys really took an extraordinary amount of time making sure the bluestone on the back patio looked good and was level and cohesive with the existing stone. John let me know when he was coming and always showed up. He stays until the job is done and makes sure all the mess is gone.

Saw Westview Waterproofing truck driving by, took down the number, made the call. John McGowan (owner) called me back the next morning and scheduled a visit for that same day. She showed up on time, took a thorough look at the project, and provided a written estimate the next day. The price was very reasonable, he showed up when he promised, and finished when he promised. John also put me in touch with a carpenter that he has worked with in order to address the non-masonry aspects of the project. Both contractors worked together to get the job done seamlessly, leaving me out of the minutia. Even though I an only a homeowner, I have spent almost $1,000,000 over the years on home improvement projects, and can honestly say that Westview Waterproofing has been one of the best subcontractor choices I've ever made.

Westveiw Masons LLC owned and operated by John McGowan. John and his crew removed and replaced an old set of brick front steps, along with two slaps of concrete for the front walkway.The steps were in horrible shape and were long overdue to be replaced. John suggested a few options and we decided to go with stone along the sides and limestone for the steps. We supplied the stone (allowed us to pick the color scheme and type of stone) and John the supplied the limestone and all additional materials. The work was completed on time ( 3- 4 days) in a professional manner. John answered all of my questions and concerns. Everything that was agreed upon was delivered. The work was top quality, better than expected. The final price was exactly as discussed, before the work was started. I highly recommend John and his crew to work on your house. Waterproofing basements, Mason work or Landscape. I found him to be trustworthy and easy to communicate with. When Spring time rolls around, I hope to have John and his crew concrete our driveway, add a roman drain and replace the crumbling retaining walls.

John McGowan, owner of Westview Masons came promptly when scheduled; offers a fair price for the work to be done. John and his crew arrived 8:30 AM, exactly when John said they would be there; they worked all day and finished in one day. They were careful not to damage or disrupt the roses and other plants adjacent to the work which was greatly appreciated, They did a beautiful job and paid particular attention matching the sidewalk with same type pavers and pattern as well as the cleanup. I would recommend John for any masonry work you might have. Great job!!

I couldn't have been happier with John's responsiveness and the punctuality and professionalism of his crew. This job was labor intensive and, by definition, incredibly messy. However, you'd never know it by looking around after they completed the job. There was literally no sign of the work they had done and I can't pay a higher compliment than that. John and his crew took incredible care to cover our belongings and to prevent dust and dirt from spreading around the basement and the rest of our home. They worked hard and carefully. Incidentally, I had a plumber in my basement earlier this afternoon, and he commented on the quality of the work that was done by Westview. I obviously can't comment on the the functionality of the drains and pump, but I can only assume, based on Westview's glowing recommendations, that they will perform as expected.

They cleaned up after their work was done. They'd even washed the floor of the basement for me and it was cleaner when they left than when they arrived!. John McGowan came by many times during the installation of the french drains to make sure everything was going smoothly and couldn't have been nicer. The estimate that he'd given me was exactly the amount that was charged - no nasty surprises! We are extremely satisfied with what was done and will definitely use them again.

John responded quickly to my initial inquiry and was able to email an estimate to me less than a week after my initial call. He was friendly and professional. His estimate on how long the work would take (2 days with a crew of 3-4 men) and when the work could be scheduled were accurate. All work was performed as promised and his crew did a good job of cleaning up after the job was done. John even pointed out a leaking sprinkler head that I had been unaware of. I would not hesitate to hire Westview Masons if you need any masonry work.

Westview Masons was on time, quick, professional and easy to work with. Mr. McGowan helped us work through everything we needed to do and was very flexible with our schedule. He even came back to fix a stone that had come chipped.

I had stairs on my front steps. I had railings put in they cracked the stone where the posts went in to hold the railings. No one would come out and fix. He agreed and gave a plan to fix it to me. He cut the stone in half and didn't have to take the rails off to fix it. The reason it cracked was the shape of the post (square not round). He tried to fix it with filler, yet the filler expanded and not held. He came back out for a second time to repaired it successfully.

I had some not so good experiences with the the last few companies I hired to work on my house. Fortunately "Westview Masons" was NOT one of the bad ones, but was really good. I called the number for an estimate, John who I think is the owner, came over and gave me an estimate. I had a pretty good feeling about him. Nice guy, professional. He gave me an estimate on doing the whole basement. I've had some bad water problems for quite sometime. A week before I hired Westview Masons, I had a Plumber from a "different company" who installed a sump pump, that looked terrible. It wasn't flushed with the floor, there was broken stone around it. I showed it to John when he came, he said he could fix it and make it look nice. We set up a date for John and his crew to come. They came back a 10 days or so later and did the job. I wasn't even there, I just left the door unlocked for him. John and his crew did the whole job, it was a french drain in my basement. It came out really good, no problems at all. He also fixed the "previous plumbers" mess of a job. He let me know when they were finished and I came over. He showed me the job and I paid him. The whole thing went very smooth. They cleaned up everything nice. I am very happy with "Westview Masons", they are my new go to company for anything masonary :))

It went very well. It took a bit to schedule, but the work was beautiful. Fair price. Conscientious work ethic. Highly recommend them.

We obtained 2 bids from contractors previously given high ratings in Angie's list. John McGowan of Westview Masons and proposed a somewhat simpler, but perfectly satisfactory, plan for achieving the desired results. His bid came in $1000 less than that of his competitor ($1500 versus $2500). He was very busy at the time we obtained the bids and indicated that he would be able to get to our job within about one month. Shortly before one month in the past, his team performed the contracted work in slightly more than one day. Clean up afterwards was excellent, and we were very pleased with the quality of repairs performed. To summarize: the plan Mr. McGowan devised to solve our problems was excellent, the price was right, and the work quality was excellent.

Very professional. The owner is involved in the work. He communicated all aspects of the job and kept us up to date. Easy to reach by phone and returned our calls quickly. Two very skilled workers installed the steps and decorative stone facade. The owner was at our house every day to oversee the work and help out. Crew cleaned up each night and left the work area nice and neat when they were done with the job. We are very happy with Westview's work. They also replaced our front side a few years ago.

John McGowan was prompt, courteous and reliable. The price was very reasonable. His workers worked hard all day til after 6pm and didn't even stop for lunch! They exceeded our expectations because they not only repaired the obvious broken parts of our front steps and walkway, they patched up every little crack and fissure so that they whole thing is now perfect! I recommend this company 110%.
