Based upon reviews, we called John in to assess supplementing the insulation in our home. Based upon our square footage and needs, I anticipated a job of $20,000+. John very professionally assessed our home and recommended that we reduce the scope of our job and simply attack the areas of greatest need, revisiting the result later in the year if required. John was professional, worked efficiently, and approached the job as if he cared about building a relationship rather than optimizing his short term revenue. Excellent provider.

My wife and I hired John to soundproof some walls that separate us from our noisy neighbors. John was quick to respond to our inquiry. My wife spoke to him on the phone about our project. John was able to provide us with an estimate over the phone. We made an appointment for later that week. John and his assistant showed up slightly late, but they got right to work. They took the time to explain what they were doing the entire time. They worked quickly and efficiently. John even checked for possible additional insulation issues. This service would normally incur an additional charge, but he did it as a courtesy. He also provided us with some useful tips on how to better insulate our home. The work was wrapped up within less than two hours. They made a decent effort to clean up afterward, but we did discover a small issue after they had left. The price he quoted us was the price we paid. John was confident that the spray foam would significantly reduce the sounds we were hearing. Unfortunately, we can still hear a degree of noise, but it does seem to be fairly reduced. To his credit, John followed up with us and was even willing to come back out to examine the problem further. My wife and I decided that it would not be necessary. We may have him come back in the future though for additional insulation work.

Hi, After much research and phone calls regarding insulation of a cold single family house in North Arlington NJ, I decided to hire Dr Energy Smart,. John was a pleasure to work with, he was very straight forward, gave great advice and suggestions,. There was no b...s..., he didnt try to pull any fast one's....unlike the other guys I had come to price the same job. So that being said....Yes...I would definitely hire him again....

I bought a coupon on Angie's List for Comprehensive Home Energy Evaluation for $289.00. The gentleman who performed the services was very friendly and professional. However, I have to say the value for the services performed is definitely not worth it. I would actually say it borders on being a rip-off. He spent about 20-30 minutes in my home only to tell me that I should close the duct vents. He used a device to point out a problem area of cold air coming in, which I already knew about. You don't need a device to feel the cold draft coming in from the wall. I was hoping he could offer a solution. He gave some tips on how I could fix it, which ended up being the wrong advice because he misdiagnosed the problem. (He suggested inserting rubber caulk in the area between the floor board and wall, but the problem was actually due to a large hole in the wall where the heating pipe was installed). The service concluded with him telling me that his advice to close the duct vents alone would give me my money's worth. After two utility bills, I must say I haven't saved any money. I cannot judge other services, but I write this review to suggest passing on their expensive Comprehensive Home Energy Evaluation. It is simply not worth it.

Very responsive business owner. Came to our house to give an estimate, evaluation, and recommendation quickly and was able to perform the work within days afterwards. Did everything he said he would do and more. The main, original part of my house is almost 90 years old and there is no insulation in the walls. My kids bedrooms were very, very cold. There is a noticeable difference now. With proper attic insulation and new windows/window insulation which he recommended/advised on, the rooms will probably be near perfect. This was the first step, and a critical one, to getting the rooms warmer and more livable. The team also performed work in a tight crawlspace that needed to be properly insulated. The business owner will ensure you are happy, comfortable, and wants to ensure you "feel" the difference when he is finished. Thank you so much!

One phone call to John, sent photos and dimensions for an estimate. Second phone call, made an appointment. Scheduled appointment two days later. Took an hour to complete the job. Basement is much better off. Job well done.

I called John in order to improve my freezing kitchen. Behind of my kitchen cabinets there was a lot of draft getting through my house. John and his helper did a great job. They brought the insulation foam tanks and injected in the kitchen walls, inside of my living room's book shelves cabinet, master bedroom bay window walls. First John drilled the kitchen cabinets walls in order to make a hole and injected the foam in it. The size of the holes were smaller than a penny. Everything went well. I'm happy with it.

It was the smartest thing we have ever done to our house!!!!! Doctor Energy Smart and the people who work with them, were all efficient, clean and affordable. The smartest thing we have done to our home, is to have foam insulation injected into our walls by John of Doctor Energy Smart. Once we saw how it reduced our cooling bills and our house was cooler and heat was better on the first floor, in April 2015, we decided to have our attic sprayed with foam insulation by Jim and Kate. Now we are seeing our heating bills go down even more and the heating is much better in our house. Heating and central air conditioning have been made much more efficient.. And that is saying a lot for an old house that was added to over the years !!

First and foremost, John is an expert in what he does, so we certainly followed his lead. He came up with a reasonable plan that didn't involve removing all the drywall and making a huge mess. His approach is innovative and seems really smart. Second, I've never met a contractor more concerned with customer satisfaction. John is dedicated to doing anything to make sure his customers are satisfied. We coordinated a time for him to come; they arrived around 11am and he and his assistant got right to work. They drill holes, so there is definitely a bit of a mess, but they try to be as neat as possible. John actually borrowed our vacuum to make sure he left the house clean. They finished the job by 6pm that evening, after leaving for a period of time to get more foam. The bathroom was obviously warmer--the draft from the attic was gone. The bedrooms were harder to assess. John followed up to see how things were going. I explained that I was going to get our HVAC system evaluated, because the bedroom was still a bit cold. We had an email exchange where we discussed the costs vs. labor--with the amount of time involved, I wasn't sure if he had overestimated the labor costs. So John offered to come back and do another room at his own cost! Like I said, he is 100% concerned about customer satisfaction. Now that we know more about what's involved, we definitely feel like we can have an educated conversation about our needs. We'll continue to use John as we get our house more energy efficient.

Job went very well; highly satisfied. Despite major renovation in 2009, the condo I purchased in 2013 had no insulation in the walls - zero. My wife and I tolerated this for 2 years by turning up the heat and not using the coldest room, but with a child on the way, this option no longer existed. Through my employer we have a benefit similar to Angie's list were we have a company (LifeCare) find contractors for us so that we don't waste time at work, and they pointed me to John. After talking to John and a few other vendors, I thought John was the right guy for this job. He was easy to talk to over the phone and could do exactly what I was looking for. My condo is on the 4th floor, and the elevation rules out any contractor that would pump insulation from a truck - john carries the foam in tanks (similar size to propane tanks). Before doing the installation we came across a few items that would materially impact the over the phone estimate, and I appreciated that he brought this up before starting the job. Issue was that one of my walls is abnormally thick (2x) and required an abnormal amount of foam. Neither John or I could have known this before drilling a pilot hole. After about 3 hours the job was completed, and I could immediately notice the difference. John also pointed out two very low cost ways I could keep my condo warmer throughout the winter, so I feel like I got a little bit more than just the job I hired him for.

It went very well. They did the work quickly and efficiently and cleaned up after themselves, which not everyone does.

We found many issues with our house that we were unaware of. John was very helpful in creating correct air movement through our attic. He even suggested things outside the house like gutter reconfiguration because we had large ice damns. John and his crew were very friendly and professional and easy to work with.

He paid attention to all the smallest details, which included spraying the back of the hatch door. Wonderful costumer service. I would recommend to all that need this type of service. I can't wait to be warm this winter. Thank John...

John did a great job. He was on time, walked me through his process and analysis. He made suggestions for immediate improvement, and didn't pressure us for additional work.

John was A+ for his customer service absolutely no pressure for you to buy his services. John Did a thermal camera inspection of my home and while doing so he pointed out several simple corrective measures for me to do with costing a dime. my issues was my 2 bedrooms weren't holding heat and I needed the foam insulation. After the install was completed I had a very very very simple issue addressed and John was at my door to correct before I hung up the phone. I will post additional I'm sure positive down the road as the weather is still mild.

He sprayed foam on the roofline, filled empty floor bays with a batt product called Ultra-Logic and foil wrapped the floor to add an R16 - Seems great.
