Speer Air

I purchased the Fall Tune Up Special for $69.00 through Angie's List. I received an e-mail from Speer Air confirming the purchase and we set up an appointment. They gave me a 4 hour window (between 10am-2pm) which I thought was a little long compared to my previous service provider but I accepted the appointment. The day of the appointment the technician (I apologize but I forgot his name) was running late due to an emergency at his previous stop. I understand that that sort of thing happens. The receptionist at Speer Air called me when he was on my way and that was appreciated. The technician was very courteous and professional. He replaced the air filter, tuned up the furnace and tested it out and the furnace itself worked fine. Unfortunately, my Nest learning thermostat could not turn on the furnace. The technician diagnosed the Nest and the furnace and we both came to the conclusion that there was a problem with the Nest. The technician offered to re-install my old thermostat (which I still had) which I appreciated but I told him I would work with Nest technical support to fix the problem. He told me to call if needed any further assistance. Eventually, Nest sent me a new thermostat which I installed myself and my heat works just great now. Overall I was very pleased with the service and the technician and I would use them again.

Luis B came to my home yesterday evening. He was kind, professional, and thorough. He took time to clean the water indicator tube on my furnace and informed about ways to make sure the furnace ran properly. He patiently answered all of my questions and took time to look at the radiators in my home.

The repairman seemed nice enough although when he left and I got a second opinion the second repairman from another company told me the Speer Air repaiman had cut the electric to it so I could not operate the furnace through the thermostat. Sure enough that was the problem. Now by Law if the unit was unsafe and he shut it down, as a homeowner it is my choice whether to listen to his warning. He had no right to cut the electric off. Needless to say we are very disappointed with the way the situation was dealt with and I felt like I was being forced into buying a new unit from them. I am sorry that they are a Angie list provider. I would not use them again because you can't trust them.

Just bought my townhome and not only did he do the tune up but he was also very patient with me and explained everything. Would totally use them again.

Technically, I have no way of knowing if the guy did anything as I didn't stand over him while he did his work (and frankly, even if I did, I still wouldn't know what he was doing and if it was any good). But I will assume he did a good job. He was punctual, very nice, knew his stuff, spent tons of time explaining everything to me and didn't try to upsell me on anything which is always appreciated. Took him about a half hour of actual work time.

I will definitely see them out in the spring to conduct the repairs. They even told me that the future repair bill will be adjusted to account for a portion of the service bill that I uncured.. We'll see. I will report back in the spring. Well the spring came and went and the summer is here. Had Spear out again to make the repairs. Different tech. gave me some grief about completing the repairs on the same visit (I had to stay home for the visit from work) but eventually agreed to do the repairs needed and then follow up on Monday for the external work when I don't need to be onsite. the bill was initially estimated at 1700 but then adjusted to 1350.. Guys are honest. I was given a refund of my service call cost last year. Satisfied with that! Will write back after the conclusion of the repairs on Monday.

The technician Mike was extremely professional, knowledgeable and friendly. He carefully answered all of my questions and showed me what he was doing. I was very impressed and I will definitely use them in the future.

Speer did a great job. It took longer than expected due to Village of Ridgewood requiring permits and the painful process this Village requires its residents to go through. That's one of the reasons I moved from Ridgewood.

I would definately recommend Speer and I would definately use them again. They were prompt, courteous, professional.

Speer Air sent Jeff, who is competent and thorough. This small job was the latest in a series of jobs performed by Speer Air for us. In addition, they have replaced the boiler and installed three split A/C units. All work was well done.

On time, finished a bit late, but finished. Minor complaints with the ductwork placement and finishing. Nothing major.

We received estimates from several other contractors as well as Speer. Speer's estimate was: (1) very reasonable and (2) very easy to understand. Speer was by far the most responsive contractor in terms of getting back to us with answers to questions/concerns we had (and we had a bunch.) The installers who came to our house were incredibly polite and professional. They did an amazing job getting a full ducted system into very tight spaces. We are happy to recommend them.

Installation time ran some four or five hours, which I thought was a bit long. The workers were friendly and professional. They discarded the old water heater, the packing material for the new one and all refuse from the installation and removal. They answered questions as best as they could and checked with their supervisors via cell phone if they ran into problems that stumped them. All in all, a pleasant experience.

The representatives from Speer Air were all very courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. We solicited several estimates for the job. Speer Air was very well priced, but even more importantly, they were the only service provider who immediately came up with a plan to install the generator with our complex electrical system. Whenever I contacted our representative, he responded very quickly, most often within a few minutes. Every worker was friendly and professional thoughout each phase of the project. They even worked very hard to get our generator hooked up right before an ice storm. They worked well with our town to get the appropriate permits and inspections. Two staff members educated us on our generator's care and maintenance. We will definitely use them again for maintenance of our generator and our air conditioning system.

Due to all the recent weather events over the past years, and living in a more remote part of NJ, it was time to take action to ensure that any future power interruption would have minimal impact. Obtaining three quotes from various local suppliers, including one of the big home improvement stores, I was enabled to make a better informed decision on who to invest with. I went with Generac as the generator brand. The advice being that they have a 5 year warranty on their new models, make the engines, the generator, have a good service network, and from feedback seem to be a good choice. Comparing all the models and prices online, this model costs around $4500; that was my base point to better understand the installation costs. In addition I wanted the winter kit, wireless monitor, and whole house surge protector. The improvement store's quote was more that $3k above the others, and that was not for the full service; did not include the propone connection - this was going to be extra. I was keen to go for a one stop shop installer who would stand by their work. In the end after some negotiation I am very pleased with the price agreed with Speer. My installation was not straight forward as the generator was a distance from the propane and electrical boxes. Rick Fenn was great through out the whole process; I felt throughout that he cared and work with me through out, keeping me informed as permits etc progressed. I was able to take advantage of their 12 months interest free (always a bonus). I prepared the whole area where the generator now sits on a bed of gravel. The installation guys turned up on time and the whole process went like clock work over two days. The commissioning and testing happened 1 week later once all the necessary inspections were complete. In summary I am very pleased, have a generator that sits there ready. To be honest I hope it is not needed but I have piece of mind that if needed, it will be money well spent.

Their response time is exceptional and their communication level is very effective. They repaired it in the middle of the summer and it has been working perfectly since then.

I selected this company from Angie's List and had quotes from two other companies from the list. All quotes were good, but this company surpassed the others by how Rick Fenn (their sales person) presented the package and spent extra time explaining the products offered. I also preferred the choice of units offered by Speer over the other two companies. He provided me with printed information on the air conditioner and air cleaner , in order that I could review everything on my own. Rick also was very responsive to my phone calls when I had additional questions prior to giving them the job. I would also like to add that the office personnel who answered the phone were very prompt, polite and efficient in taking my calls and relaying messages. The installers showed up on the date and time agreed upon, did a very efficient and professional job and cleaned up every day prior to leaving. Actually they worked so quietly, I hardly knew anyone was in my attic. After a week or so of using the new air conditioner I found that the temperature was perfect as per the setting, but the humidity felt a little higher than it was with the old unit. I check it with my hygrometer and it confirmed it as being a little higher than the comfort level. I called Speer and they promptly sent a tech. He checked everything out and made a small adjustment to the system. It now runs perfectly. I was very happy to have Speer do this installation and highly recommend them.

Right from the very beginning, the estimator Kevin provided an estimate on the spot and explained the entire process very clearly -- from where the equipment would be placed to the vents and how long the installation would take. He also took the time to explain all of the individual components from the compressor to the air filter unit to the ductwork and provided informational literature on all parts so we knew what we were purchasing. The installers, Jeff and Sean, were great. They arrived on time and worked the two hottest days of the year in the attic without complaining once. We also were having the exterior of the house being painted at the same time and they were very accommodating in working around the painters. They operated very quickly and cleanly without leaving any dust and debris (and the very little that there was they swept up at the end of the day). On day two, the electricians Louis and Kevin arrived early and immediately got to work installing the electrical lines. They both ran the lines very neatly and to code (and also worked around the painters outside). Kevin went out of his way to take the time to explain how the new thermostat worked as well. Overall the speed in which they performed the job (1.5 days) and the professionalism of the entire crew was really impressive. We've been enjoying our new air conditioning immensely and feel confident in Speer Air and their commitment to keep us cool for years to come.

They were great and came out quickly to do an estimate. Because this was just after a hurricane they were very backed up but they did come out and were professional when they put it in. They were responsive after the fact to questions and any issues I've had. My sister in a neighboring town also had a generator put in by this company and they have been happy with them, so we have no complaints. I think they are very responsive to phone calls; their customer service is very good. I can't stand it when people don't return calls. They were true to their estimate so in that sense they were reliable in everything they did. When we did estimates their price was reasonable. I have never had an issue with their punctuality.

I've been using them for 40 years now. They are good and they know what they are doing. The quality is important.

The entire experience was positive. The initial phone contact, which was pleasant, led to a prompt visit from Phil Hoffman who came to do an estimate for us. He was helpful and very clear about what he believed we did and did not need. The price was considerably better than the one Harmony quoted us. When we decided to go with Speer,the details of the installation were explained, including how long we could expect to be without heat.The company took responsibiity for obtaining the appropriate permits from Rockaway Township. On the day the work was done, Tim and Brian arrived promptly when expected. They were courteous and it was comfortable to have them working in my home. They worked neatly and efficiently. Several other workers from the company came to inspect the work, and they, too, were very easy to talk with and gave clear information in response to questions. The job was completed earlier than promised, the old furnace was taken away, and the worksite was left neat. Both the furnace installation and the electrical work passed inspection. Billing was clear and exactly as expected. The furnace is working well, and we are very satisfied with all aspects of the service received from Speer.

Have hired Speer on several occasions over a period of twenty years. Always punctual and professional. Initial contact was an installation of new AC and furnace;an additional installation has been scheduled for the summer. Would recommend without hesitation.

They were punctual, timely, clean and they gave us options that we had not previously heard. They were able to install the AC ducts without us having to lose any closet space. They were great! Their follow up is really great!

These guys work well as a team, courteous and hard working. They are worth the extra bucks to get the job done. The only thing I was sort of against was all the working they did to make the exhaust work since they could not deal well with the bad liner somoeone else had installed and it was really shoved in tight and heavy guage. I'd hope they would have tried dilling a hole higher but it seems this was their recommended way.
