Seneca Tree Service

Initial communication was lacking. at the time of quotation, we were told the work would commence approximately 4 weeks later, weather dependent. After 4 weeks, we had to call to receive confirmation of when the work would start (an additional week or 2 delay). In and of itself, not necessarily an issue. As part of the stump grinding, this is the first firm we worked with that did not clear the shavings, but rather left them piled up at each location. Early June I was finally able to get out in my yard and clear up the shavings. it was then that it was noticed that the grinding was incomplete with parts of the stumps still visible (projecting above my lawn some 6+ inches). We sent an e-mail with photos of the conditions back in June with a request for them to return and complete the grinding (the grinding should have left the entire stump approximately 6" below grade). Between June and September there were several e-mails exchanged where we requested an update as to when they might return to complete the grinding work (and we only requested it for the two front yard locations, we did not ask them to finish the rear yard). This was constantly met with a response that they had no update for me. To date (early November 2021), there has been no return by Seneca to complete the work even though with in the last two weeks they performed tree work at a neighbor's house 3 houses down. We are only asking that the front yard stump grinding be completed so we could have restored the lawn during the fall planting season (although we are still in a window where I might still be successful planting grass, but that window is closing). Their response and professionalism has been less than stellar

We called them during the week of 3/7/2016 and told them we were doing a landscaping project and needed a certain tree to come down before Monday, 3/28. They looked at it, quoted a good price and said they would take down the tree during the week of 3/14. They never showed up that week and never called us to explain why. When they eventually returned our phone calls, they said they would come on Monday, 3/21, but again they didn't show and didn't call to let us know. They didn't come on the 22nd either. When we spoke with them on the 22nd, we again explained that two other contractors were depending on their finishing before the 28th. The office person blamed weather and equipment problems for not doing the work and she said the Owner would call us back. I confirmed our schedule needs in an email later that day. Next day, we got an email claiming the Owner had called and left a message on the answering machine, but there were no messages left on any of our phones. It's noteworthy that even then, Seneca didn't commit to meeting our schedule needs. At that point, we gave up on them and called someone else who came two days later and did the job. We had used Seneca four years earlier based on good reviews on Angie's List. They did a good job then and based on that experience, we called them again without checking Angie's List. Something has apparently changed, because we see that in the last three years, numerous people have had similar complaints.

Two weeks ago Fred gave me a quotation for tree trimming and said that you could probably do it this week. On Monday I call your office (actually got the office, not the answering service I think) and asked what was happening. I was told that Fred had scheduled the work for this Tuesday, and that I would get a phone call from Fred later on Monday to confirm this. Fred never called. No one came on Tuesday (and I waited around for them) Finally on Tuesday afternoon I started calling again, and kept getting the answering service which said you would soon call me. And Tuesday I even left an email message like this one on your web site. Still no return calls. CANCEL MY ORDER (if there ever was one) I will post an appropriate review on Angie's List.

Fantastic service - we got 3 quotes and these guys were significantly cheaper. Brought a full crew - ensured job was done in one day. Everything removed and cleaned up - they even took away a large pile of branches that we had stacked up. Really first class service and we'd thoroughly recommend them.

No answering machine but no call backs either after leaving 3 messages for emergency services. If you are booked, great! Don't leave people just hanging.

Called the office two weeks ago. A friendly staff member took my info, and promised to have someone stop by to survey the proposed work (cutting down a tree), and provide an estimate. Since I hadn't yet heard from them, I called again a few days ago and was rolled over to an answering service. The rep told me that the office was probably out to lunch, and they should return my call when they got back. Still no reply. I give up.

They are only available for estimates Monday-Friday from 9 AM - 3 PM which is unique, completely impractical and very unaccommodating.

Seneca was very timely and responsive. They did a great job helping us and our neighbors clean up from Hurricane Sandy. The price was fair and the work was very well done.

They are a good company. They are excellent. Their workers are very easy to talk to. They cleaned up after the job. I couldn't say enough positive things about them; they are a terrific company. They came out to give an estimate, they followed through, and called before they came and gave enough notice so that we could be here when they were coming out. They are very courteous. It is a top-notch company in the way it is run and in the way they send the bill afterwards and they even gave us an option of using a credit card. However, they are very busy. The price was very reasonable for the work they did. When I called them, they told us that they were booked for a week and to call back but it wasn't like they did not respond, they followed through even though they couldn't do our work that moment. They gave us a timeframe when they possibly would be out, where as other companies that we called during that time, because they were so busy, didn't pickup our calls or didn't return our calls when we left a message so Seneca is really an excellent company.

It went very well. Fred came out on time and gave me a quote on the spot. Much less than others I received. He said they were 2 weeks out on scheduling and within 2 weeks the work was done. Great experience overall.

Needed to take down a pretty large tree that was damaged during the last storm. Called 5 companies in North NJ for the work. Some didn't call back but of the ones that did Seneca gave me the best price. Had to call back to confirm the date but once I did that they showed up with a crew and banged out the tree like clockwork. Reasonable and professional, what else could you ask for in a tree service.

They came on time, set up there work, removed about half a dozen trees (a few very large), then they cleaned up everything and were gone in about three hours. I was very happy with their work. If I ever need tree work again, they will be the folks that I call.

They responded quickly to get me an estimate. After hiring them they did the job promptly and professionally. They went above and beyond, not only clearing the trees, but also removing some low hanging branches.I will definately hire them again.

Prompt in coming out to give estimate, on time to begin the work, they saw other dangerous limbs and situations with hanging wires that were on the side of the house I had not gotten to. Only charged a little extra for the extra work when indeed there was a quite a bit more that was added to the work load. They were glad to do it all. Efficient workers and there were many to handle the job. Cleanup on the site was GREAT!

Outstanding job. removed the trees with a crane without doing any additional damage to the structure or yard. This is the third time I have used Seneca, they are responsive, professional and reasonable in their fees. I could not recommend them any higher.

I was given the name of this company from my neighbor who was happy with their work. The telephone service agent (Larissa) was very pleasant and explained the process over the phone and answered my questions. She had a copy of their insurance coverage emailed to me (and was very polite and professional about it...I was nervous due to how close the trees were to our house/deck). Fred, the owner/site manager, came out to do a survey of what we wanted done and gave us an estimate. Once we committed, they basically put us in and quot;line,and quot; so to speak. They couldn't be firm with a date due to fall rainy weather, which I understood. It took about 2 weeks from when we were given the estimate and when they came out. She called the day before, just to make sure we were ok with them coming out. They had a very pleasant and professional crew who worked quickly. They were able to bring a crane in to get the one closest to the house, which was safer for the crew and the surroundings. My only minor complaint is that they wouldn't put the estimate in writing, as I feel any professional company should provide that to their customers. But all in all, very pleased with this company and their work.

Nothing was too difficult for them. They had the right equipment and did a fabulous job. In spite of using very expensive equipment, they had the lowest quote. I would definitely use them again.

An employee came to give me an estimate. He seemed to act short with me and wasrude. He gave me a card and I requested he write the estimate on the card. He told me I could write whatever I wanted and refused to give me a written compy. He stated in two weeks out I was to call to arrange an appointment. I called two weeks to the day and the women who answered the phone stated it was too early and I needed to call back. I found them rude, unprofessional, and I am very dissatisfied with their customer service. Due to my experience I fired the Seneca Tree Service and decided to use someone else.

A very professional organization. The owner/representative is pleasant and the price for the many services I requested was quite reasonable. I couldn't be happier with the results. I will use again. Ask for Fred.

They cleaned up very well and they were very efficient. I definitely had a positive experience with them. All the workers were very efficient and they worked well together. They had the job done in a short time. My overall experience with them was very satisfactory. In terms of quality of work, it was good. One thing they could have done maybe a little better was taking out the root. When they took the root out, of the tree, they did not go deep enough to get it off the lawn. As a homeowner, I could have checked on that and told them before they left. I am sure they would have done it better. In terms of responsiveness, I don't know how I would judge that. I would definitely use their services again in the future.

Great service from estimate to service. Prompt, Responsive, Professional. The work was well done and the clean up was excellant, no signs of their trucks ever being on the property. I highly recommend them and plan to use them again in the future as need be.

Called them a week ahead of time - in 2 days they were ready to come to us. Cut back trees to the property line. PERFECT job - clean up was terrific - you'd never know they had been there. Can't believe how much work they did for so little. Would recommend them to anyone!

The company was very punctual and cooperative from estimating to showing up to perform the work. The price was reasonable. The physical removal of the branches and the trees was performed in excellent fashion with little damage to surrounding shrubs and trees. But the disposal was a different matter. Entire branches were drug through the gardens to the chipper located in the driveway, uprooting new perennials and annuals, and damaging shrubs. And, the chipping equipment was not well maintained and left three two foot round diesel oil stains on our paver-style driveway and in the street in front of the house. I immediately phoned the office on both problems, was told "the owner would surely be by to inspect." No one has shown to date (19 July) that I am aware of. They offered to replace the damaged plants, but I declined as it wasn't too serious, just that a lot of my hard work went into the planting and growing.This is a good company, the owner is excellent to work with, but they certainly need better supervision and attention to details. Use them again?? Yes with closer attention on my part.
