Great service and the two gentlemen that came to my home to clean my chimney were extremely professional and very considerate. I have hired Certified Chimney Service in Denville NJ on several occasions and have been extremely impressed each and every time. From making the phone call through the cleaning process everything went smoothly and I would recommend they to everybody. Glen

Work done satisfactorily, but was lied to about insurance coverage. They promised for almost two months to show proof of coverage, and never did. I since learned their insurance expired March 2017 and they have been operating without insurance for the better part of a year. Not only risky, but against labor laws to not cover their employees. Would never recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: We had some masonry repairs made to one chimney, chimney saver applied to two chimneys, and a top-mounted flue damper installed for another chimney.

It went well. They arrived right on time. They put a drop cloth down to protect the floor and area rug. They inspected the fireplace and chimney. One person at the fireplace and one on the roof. It was determined it needed a good cleaning. They did the job and recommended a yearly cleaning if the fireplace is used frequently. They were courteous, prompt and respectful of your home. Definitely use them again.

Description of Work: They cleaned two chimneys and discovered some corrosion in one chimney. It's hard to evaluate work you can't see (I did not climb up on the roof). I gave them an A because they were polite, careful with the carpets (they had to come in doors to set up equipment), arrived on time, explained what they were doing, gave an estimate for additional work they said was needed, and did not pressure me in anyway to get the contract for the additional work that was needed.

I had previously paid another contractor for this service, as part of a larger job. Unfortunately the waterproofing part of the job was delayed due to weather (water-proofing requires sufficiently warm temperatures, and a dry day). Before the vendor could provide the service, he sold the business to Certified Chimney, an established local company. As soon as I learned that Certified Chimney would be my new provider of services, I called their office and spoke with Kim. Kim was very polite and helpful, and literally within an hour there was a crew at my home to verify that the chimney had not been previously waterproofed. An appointment was setup promptly for the next dry/warm day, and a crew came out right on time to perform the service. They took their time in carefully applying the product and ensured that all surfaces were properly treated. Job well done.

The work was completed within 1 week, as expected. The quality of the work was good, however, they rebuilt the chimney over old flashing which began to leak 4 years later. I made multiple phone calls to them and never did speak to the owner even when I requested to do so. They inspected the chimney and found a hairline crack and offered to perform a water test. They felt that work done in 2009 was out of warranty (how many times should one expect to replace a chimney?). They wore me down with the multiple contacts with no resolution and I eventually had my roofer repair the leak. Did I mention they rebuilt the chimney over old, worn, leaking flashing?????

I am a registered Architect in NJ and NY, having practiced as an Architect for 14 years. For the past 12 years to the present time I am working in commercial construction management in NYC. Therefore, I am ?in the business? for design and construction and deal with various trade contractors on a regular basis. I pride myself of having a trained ?eye? as well as the experience of seeing multiple designs go from paper to reality and learning what works and what does not from participating in the construction, installation and finishing process. I hired Certified Chimney Service, Inc. to have one of their crew?s perform the necessary contracted work to restore the stone chimney at our home, including re-pointing all of the mortar joints, removing the existing original chimney pots, rebuilding the brick corbel at the top of the chimney and finally, installing two owner-provided, ornamental terra-cotta chimney pots with custom finished coated stainless steel spark arrestor caps. My wife and I are most pleased with the result. Aesthetically, the finished work makes the chimney an even more attractive focal point of the house, complimenting the overall style of our 1930 Tudor home. We have received many compliments from friends and neighbors who have seen it and agree with our sentiments. Five years later, having experienced much rain and snow, we have not detected any water leaks inside around the fireplace chimney and both the separate furnace and fireplace flues continue to draw adequately. I am attaching some photos of the chimney, now that the new cedar shingle roof and copper flashing, gutters and downspouts have been installed. I am most willing to serve as a reference for Certified Chimney Service, Inc. and to convey to your prospective clients my positive experience with Frank Perry Sr., his daughter Kim and your crew that performed the actual work. I want to commend you, Kim and their crew for the professionalism, expertise, efficiency and sensitivity to protection of our property, as well as their ability to diagnose and deal with unexpected conditions. I selected this company after interviewing and considering several of their regional competitors because I trusted that their crew would be able to produce what I wanted in the necessary time frame, with an attention to quality. Also, as important, they had the necessary insurance coverage. Their attitude from the beginning, far surpassed the lax attitude, slow response and less-than-professional interaction displayed by their competitors. For example, one of their nearby competitors was more concerned about what they would not be responsible for contractually, than what they would actually be doing as part of the project. All this, while their also being very cost competitive. I appreciated their crew taking the time to read and understand my lengthy scope of work description and to discuss the pros & cons of alternative ideas and approaches, allowing us to settle on what actually made the most sense for our specific chimney project. From the beginning of the project, Certified Chimney Services? crew?s answers to my questions, as well as suggestions to modifications to my initial ideas proved to be the right choices. Their recommendations based on their time-tested experience that we agreed to, resulted in a beautiful restored chimney with the addition of functional yet ornamental chimney pots. Their crew did an excellent job ensuring that all construction-generated debris was cleaned up of on a daily basis from our property, as well as protecting the large foundation shrubs and landscaping. It was obvious that they and this crew are true experts at what they do and helped make the entire chimney restoration process most pleasant and painless. We certainly appreciate their helping us to achieve the restored chimney that accomplishes everything that we desired. Alexander V. Bergo, AIA.
Description of Work: 1. Rebuild masonry corbel using red brick. 2. Install two (2) new vitrified clay chimney pots supplied by Owner, on top of newly reconstructed masonry corbel over each flue using Type M mortar. Mortar to be a 2 in. minimum depth up from the base of chimney pot, to create a beveled crown around new chimney pots that are appropriately sloped for necessary water drainage. 3. Install two (2) custom copper cone lid Pot Toppers with 5/8” screen mesh, one on the top of each clay chimney pot using adhesive. 4. Grind out existing mortar and re-point all motor joints only where needed on all four (4) vertical sides of chimney. Use mortar that is tinted to match the color of the existing mortar joints as closely as possible.

I went to the location to meet crew @ 7:30 am. They arrived within 15-20 minutes of set time in 2 trucks. The first truck, had 2 men in it and when I went outside to greet them, the passenger got out of the truck and said nothing. The driver stayed in the truck on the phone and did not acknowledge me. When the second truck arrived, the driver of that truck got out and I approached him, thinking he was the one in charge. By that time, the 2 men in the first truck had started to walk around the far side of my house. They came back and asked where the chimney was. I took them inside and showed them the prepared area for the installation. I was told by the man who stayed in the first truck on the phone that I needed a pre-fab fireplace and he went on to tell me they do not do that kind of work. He then began to tell me what I did need, which I already knew. What a waste of time, for their crew and me. I was very specific with my initial call so there's no way they did not know what I was looking for. And to top it off, not one person in the crew greeted me or identified themselves. They left without any apology for the misinformation only a recommendation of who I could start over with. I realize mistakes can happen, but the courtesy of the and quot;one in chargeand quot; was very disappointing. If I did need the services they provide in the future, I would not use them based on this experience.
Description of Work: I set an appointment with Kim 1 week in advance to have someone come out and give an estimate to replace a pre-fab fireplace and flue damaged during Hurricane Sandy. I was called days in advance by Kim to confirm appointment at the location. I was told the crew would stop on the way to another jobsite and there would be someone with them who knew exactly what would be needed.

Horrible!!! Don't use these guys. Extremely unprofessional. Had to get other contractors in to fix their mistakes. No follow up calls when requested. When final invoice was due I received calls twice a day for payment after the shabby work was completed. I had to get them to come back to fix their mistakes due to clearance of my roof. I took them weeks to come before the job was started. DON'T USE These guys!!! Trust Me!!!

We were happy with them. They were good. They said there was a level of dust that had settled in our chimney, and they showed us how to take that out, which was good. The overall experience was good. We were happy with them. They were nice, polite, neat, and tidy. They gave us a coupon. They were straight-forward and didn't try to sell us we needed other things. The price was about as good as you can get. I would use this provider again.

They arrived on time, although due to an injury, they rescheduled from the original date. The two men were courteous and I was satisfied with the cleaning. I did, however, have to ask them to go to the roof and check the caps, crown, etc. My thinking was that would automatically have been a part of the inspection. I also asked them if I needed any water repellent on the masonry. They said no because there was no lime or effervescence showing on the brick.

The cleaning went fine. However, while inspecting the chimney cap, they said that I had some standing water sitting on galvanized steel around the chimney. Therefore, over time, this would rust and create holes and eventually leak. The estimate to replace the galvanized steel chase top with stainless steel was $965. Of course, I obtained a few other estimates from other companies. Most recommended stainless steel but I soon found out from one honest company that all you need is aluminum - which is 1/2 the price. For only $500, they would replace the top. But when they went up on the roof to replace it, they discovered that it was ALREADY aluminum. Luckily they did not charge me for coming out to my house. So, be very careful about what Certified Chimney tells you. Otherwise, you may end up spending extra money for no reason.
