Went well. Chris is thorough, and goes great work. Does not rush and makes sure the job is done right and the customer is satisfied. We went a little longer than the original anticipated timeline but the outcome was worth the wait.

Chris came over, measured the doors and after about a week provided an estimate, which looked relatively reasonable. His estimate included labor and materials and required up front payment of 50% of the work with the remainder upon completion. We made the mistake of paying Chris in full because he was a local guy and seemed very nice. We never negotiated the price or asked for anything other than the work he quoted us and got paid in full. After more than two and half months, Chris did not finish the job. This is a job that can be finish in less than a day or two. He didn't finish the sealing of one of the doors and left what he done unfinished. Also, the weather stripping he installed on another door started to fall within a month. We nagged but he didn't come back to finish. He got annoyed when we nagged again and wrote to us that he will never come back to work for us. We never did or say anything wrong to him.

Response from WORK AROUND THE HOUSE LLC
It's April 27th and I'm just now seeing this review. Angie's List used to alert me when someone placed a review of, but much has changed here since they switched to charging businesses to be here instead of homeowners.... Anyway, to respond to this . The reviewer is a landlord who asked me to look at some issues his tenants were concerned about. I arranged to meet the tenants, went through their list, and provided the landlord with a written estimate as I always so. He agreed to my terms without any questions and paid me the deposit I requested. He did NOT pay me in full. What he did do was was inform me that his tenant would be paying the balance. I would not have normally agreed to such an arrangement, but I had met the tenants and didn't have any reservations about them. The reviewer has no idea how long it should have taken to do the work I was contracted to do. Even after I explained it to him, he completely ignored the fact that the screen door that was installed on the Anderson sliding patio door I was being asked to weatherstrip was not an Anderson door. In fact, there was no indication who made the door and where I might be able to find replacement parts. After much time spent, I did ultimately locate those parts, and ordered them with the Anderson parts I needed for the sliding door. The problem between arose after he made some disparaging remarks to me via email in an obvious attempt to pressure me to finish the work. I reminded him of the effort I put forth identifying and locating the parts I needed, and told him I would get there when I received the parts and could find the time in my schedule. That apparently wasn't good enough for him and it was at that point our conversation fell apart. I finished the work when I received the parts and told him I was no longer interested in doing anything else for him. I am not a difficult person to get along with... But I am also not a person who responds well to threats and personal affront. I am comfortable with how I have dealt with this reviewer.

Excellent work, truly well done. Chris works slowly and methodically, and when he is finished, the job will be of the highest quality. He takes real pride in doing something the right way. You can email him and get a response fairly quickly, and he also returns phone calls. Chris installed heavy-duty shelves inside a closet in my work studio, each shelf to hold a lot of weight, and did an excellent job.
Description of Work: New fiberglass garage door with dead bolt lock, heavy-duty shelves put into closet, weather stripping around sliding two-car garage door, replaced a door knob lock with a better quality lock, repaired a kitchen cabinet shelf, as well as many smaller odds and ends that needed doing.

Chris replaced three basement windows for me last week and did a great job for a fair price. He did some other work for me two months ago also, including a new bathroom door, new crawlspace door, new screen door and soffit replacement and re-nailing some vinyl siding. He did a great job with all of those jobs also for a good price. Chris always takes time to explain the job and shows up when he says he will. An honest man of his word. I will definitely be giving him more and more work in the future.

Chris from Work Around the House LLC was very responsive--called me right back same day--and came to my house the next day to evaluate the slow bathroom leak I had. He quickly diagnosed the problem as likely being caused by a few areas of missing grout and caulk and then proceeded to immediately fix them. Within 15 minutes of him arriving, he had inspected the problem, found the likely simple causes, went out to his truck to get the caulk and grout, and fix the likely culprits of my bathroom leak into the ceiling of the room below on the first floor. Last, but not least I should mention that the best part of all this is that it was such a quick and easy fix that Chris didn't even let me pay him for his (albeit short) working time or his (albeit very small amount of) materials. Of course you know I will be calling Chris the next time I have a plumbing issue, as he has definitely earned my trust!

We had a problem with the front door of a rental house. It wouldn't close or lock properly. After checking Angie's List, I called Chris. He was available to come within the hour. He inspected the door and let us know that we would have to replace the whole door and frame as it had become detached from the house. He was able to put a temporary fix, so that the door could be closed and locked. Chris also repaired an electrical outlet and switch that were not working. He is going to give a separate estimate for the full replacement of the door. His price was reasonable for today's work and we appreciated his responsiveness.

Chris replaced rotted cedar siding with new cedar siding and painted to match the rest of the house. His crew did an excellent job.
Let me first say that Chris was very up front about scheduling. He's a handyman and has many clients. He was very clear that my job would not be knocked out in a day or two. Given the price that he quoted was close to 50% less than another quote I received, I accepted his offer and work terms. The deck turned out terrific. I thought I could upload pics, but I guess you can't on AL. My wife and I are very happy with the job. Its clear that he takes the time to make sure things not only function well, but look great. He also suggested ways for us to save money on materials and we're happy with that decision. Chris also is available on email and text, which makes communication very easy. Our job had some delays, but it was the result of delayed permit paperwork on our part and out of stock inventory on Home Depot's part.
Description of Work: Chris installed a brand new timber tech deck (large landing 11x4) with steps. He also removed the old wooden steps that were in place in that location.
In November 2013, I called Chris to get an estimate to install custom bathroom shelves/cabinet and a mirror. He came to my house, took the measurements and said he'd get back to me with an estimate. No word. I sent him an email as a nudge and he'd work on it that night. NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HIM. Fast forward to July 2014, I totally forgot to mark Chris as unreliable and called him to repair my gutters and other handyman jobs around the house. When I gave him my address to come give me an estimate, he realized he was at my house before and then I remembered he was the unreliable guy, but I figured I'd give him another chance. The day I called was raining, so he was reluctant to come that day to give me an estimate, so he said he'd call and swing by on a sunny day. NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HIM AGAIN. I'm writing this review so I don't forget and call him a 3rd time, only to be left hanging again. Unreliable. A total waste of my time. Would not recommend. In response to Chris' comments: (He deleted his original nasty comments to my review, after seeing my response below) and quot;I saw the quality of the people she hires when I was there originally.and quot; Instead of defending the and quot;quality of the peopleand quot; I hire, I'll let all their multiple Angie's Awards and reviews speak for themselves, which you can find through my profile as I found them (the contractor) on Angie's list. You didn't even see their their finished work and are judging solely based on race, not skill, which is wrong on so many levels. Not really sure how I'm a and quot;pure price shopper, and quot; because getting estimates from several companies for a project is normal across the board. I vetted 3 companies, including Chris, for the cabinet/shelf/door project alone. And no, I don't decide who to hire purely based on the lowest price, which is absurd. I wouldn't be on Angie's list if I were. Good contractors cost good money. As per, and quot;I listened to what she had to say and told her I would come by when the weather was better and talk to her. In the meantime, I went on vacation and she wrote this post.and quot; - I called you on June 9, 2014 to get an estimate, heard nothing from you for over 2 weeks and wrote the review on June 26, 2014. That's over 2 weeks of just waiting for you to come and look at the project. For all I know you completely flaked out. You didn't mention anything about going on vacation and I waited over 2 weeks, which anyone would consider is on the patient side when waiting for a contractor to just come and look at a project. In response to Chris's new comments: and quot;People will say what they willand quot; - No, those quotes were copy pasted from the original comment you posted and now conveniently deleted. As per and quot;the new specificsand quot; - I'll be happy to post photos of my phone bill to prove I called you on June 9th and never heard back from you if anyone requests it.

For someone who claims not to have a reason to make up a review, this young lady sure seems to have a reason for this one. Unfortunately, that happens not to be a good thing for me. I acknowledge that in the end I cannot really defend against someone determined to give me a poor review. People will say what they will, and the reader will decide whether their comments make sense in light of other comments they've read about me, so I will not respond to the new specifics this reviewer has created. I will continue though, continue to regret having come in contact with her in the first place.

Overall experience – Was very arrogant and continued to harass me via email until I got nasty Price – was one of the highest quotes I received (verbally) Quality – I can only speak to his customer service; ARROGANT Responsiveness – Missed both the 1st appointment and 2nd, came out on the third after I called back bc he never called me to say he wasn’t going to make it. Punctuality - Missed both the 1st appointment and 2nd, came out on the third after I called back bc he never called me to say he was not going to make it. Professionalism – Very undependable and harassed me via email after the fact. I would not recommend this guy to anyone. Response from WORK AROUND THE HOUSE LLC
Where to start... This member called me and asked me to give him a price over the phone to tile two bathrooms in his house. When I told him I didn't price anything without seeing it he then asked me for my sq ft price to install tile. When I informed him that I do not estimate my work that way, but I'd be happy to come look at what he wanted done and produce a written estimate - he relented. He lives nearby, so I told him I would try to get there later in the day. As too often happens though, my day ran very long and I didn't make it. And he's right, I didn't call. When he called the next day, I went right over. I looked at the work he wanted done and told him I would email him an estimate. He again pressed me for an "idea" of what it would cost and I again told him I never give verbal estimates, ideas, ball parks, or round numbers. I told him I take great care in producing my estimates and they are extremely accurate, and I learned long ago that giving "rough estimates" is a recipe for disaster. I will admit now that at that point my suspicion that this member was strictly price shopping was confirmed. So that night when I sat down to do estimates I thought hard about it and decided I would decline to estimate the job. I don't know if I would have been the cheapest price he got - though I doubt it, I would never have done that work for $1,200! - but I do know that I had an uneasy feeling about this member from the start and my past experience with those who use price as their primary criteria has never been satisfactory for me - so I decided to beg off. So I sent him an email and told him I had too much outdoor work and couldn't see a time in the foreseeable future when I could do his job so I was respectfully declining to quote. The member was obviously not happy about that because his reply to me was that he knew we wouldn't be able to work together - and then he listed all the things he's written in this post. When I read his replay I genuinely assumed he had just confused my visit with someone else's, or perhaps even just conflated them all together, so I wrote back to correct his recollection. It was that which I think he took offense at - though I can't imagine why, I was very diplomatic. And he responded back with a recollection of notes he made where I was supposed to have given him a verbal price of $1200. that he was supposed to have said was too high. Then he told me I was "arrogant and unprofessional." I wrote back one last time just to tell him that I meant no offense by what I had said and that my wanting to correct an inaccurate representation of something I had done was neither a sign of arrogance or unprofessional. His final reply to me was to " GO ..CK YOURSELF!!!!" Finally, I don't appreciate this man lying about the circumstances under which we met, and I don't regret declining to estimate this man's work. I do wish it hadn't turned so ugly.

I found Chris Bosco to be extremely professional and meticulous in his work. He not only did a beautiful job in making me two odd shelves that I needed, he also helped with some design decisions about how to hang my decorative mirrors. His pricing was extremely fair and he was sure to clean up perfectly after doing each job - neat, neat, I just love that. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a mixed bag of things done around the house as well as bigger home improvement projects. When I first contacted him about what I needed done I asked if the job was too small for him to bother with. His answer, and quot;No job is too small!and quot;. Add all of the above to the fact that he is such a nice guy and you too will be calling Chris - I know I will definitely use him again and I have already recommended him to some friends and relatives. There is, however, one caveat. He is in high demand and extremely busy, so you may have to wait a bit, but believe me, the wait is worth it!
Description of Work: Custom built and installed 2 small shelves, hung 3 19 x 47 inch mirrors, hung a large picture, assembled and attached headboard to bed, assembled a floor lamp and a small table, repaired a small wooden table, measured and installed 15 window treatments (cellular shades and blinds), switched out a ceiling fan and a ceiling fixture in two different bedrooms.

Chris is very knowledgeable, objective and fair in his price estimates. He is fairly busy, so you need to work around his schedule, but once he gets to your house it is worth it.
Description of Work: Chris has done a few small services for us, including assembling furniture, small lightning installation, fixing bathroom doors.
We hired Chris to built a custom wood ramp for a large shed, on our property. We purchased our home in early 2013, and the shed's ramp needed to be replaced, in order to pass Homeowners insurance inspection. Chris arrived on time and the area was measured and materials purchased. The ramp was built with an arched slope, for ease of getting equipment in and out. The ramp was done in a day and half, and we were very pleased with the results. It looks great! We would not hesitate to recommend or use Chris again - and plan on doing so, for further work that needs to be done. All in all, we cant say enough good.....Chris is an absolute professional, in every sense of the word. His estimate, availability to answer any questions, flexibility and friendly communication was always top notch and professional. He was truly a pleasure.

Chris showed up on time and removed the old ladder and trim. They worked for several hours to install the new ladder and get it to fit properly in the attic opening. The old trim did not work with the new stairs, so the trim was replaced as well. All the wood surfaces that were exposed were painted. Chris came back the next day to put a second coat of paint on the wood. I thought Chris and his helper did a great job. They were very neat and cleaned up everything after they left. I know the installation took longer than he expected. I was very pleased Chris stayed with his original estimate and did not ask for additional compensation. The next time I need a handyman I will definitely give Chris a call.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Chris to replace the attic ladder in my home. I thought the price was reasonable so I purchased a ladder from Home Depot and had it delivered. He had a worker that did everything for him. The work was satisfactory. However, his attitude was bad, and he did not show up several times. He had an excuse each time when I called him to find out where he was. I told him that he could at least call me when he didn't show up, but he didn't like me saying that. When he did come, he was always late. He also said he would give me an estimate for a doggy door and a ramp leading into my home, but I never saw or heard from him again.

I visited this customer and spent hours, literally, talking to her about the work she might want to do to her rear landing and shed. We settled on the shed work easily enough, but after I produced a detailed estimate for what we talked with the landing she immediately dismissed it and we began yet another round of endless discussions about what she MIGHT want to do - including now building a new door with a doggy door in it. In the meanwhile, my man did a beautiful job replacing the plywood and shingles on her shed and adding an additional trim piece to the front to make it look a little better, and some wood to the back to help keep rodents out from underneath. Neither of which we charged her for. At NO TIME did I have a "bad" attitude. On the contrary, I was always respectful and and as helpful and considerate as I could be. In the end, I simply could not continue to be on call to discuss hypothetical work with her any longer. I am sorry to see she is annoyed enough about that to post what she has here...
We've been using Chris and Eduardo for years. They have remodeled out kitchen, bathroom, laid tile floors, repaired a concrete step, tiled walls, fixed leaking skylights and just about everything in between. Their work is always top notch and fairly priced. On more than one occasion, Chris has accessed the house while we were away to complete work. He is totally trust worthy and I intend to use him again in a few weeks to add molding to a bedroom. I recommend him without hesitation.

First, Chris Bosco, company owner, postponed the removal of countertop two days because of a foot injury. The first day,(Monday 6/24)he promised to call to see if he was able to make it the following day-but never called-we wound up calling him Tuesday morning only to find out he was postponing till Wednesday. He arrived Wednesday morning and started saying that checking the counter for levelling-which Home Depot had said was his responsibility-was actually the responsibility of Home Depot, not him. Because he had known for a week that we were requesting this i felt he should have told us that sooner so we would have time to straighten this out with Home Depot before Mr. Bosco arrived-which was one day before Home Depot was due to install. When I said that I wished he had done that, as knowing this now created an unnecessary dilemma, he abruptly left, saying and quot;I don't need to be scolded by youand quot;. So we had to, in less than 24 hours find a way to get the removal of the old countertop done which wound up costing us much more because Home Depot had to provide its own employees to take apart the old countertop, in addition to hiring its own plumber to disconnect the sink which also was supposed to be Mr. Bosco's reponsibility as per his agreement. He was totally unprofessional-and I feel we were victimized.
Description of Work: He gave us an estimate for removal of a countertop in preparation for Home Depot to install a new one. He arrived on 6/26-one day before the scheduled installation but walked off the job(see details below)

Some of Mr [member name removed] story about our encounter is correct. I did give him an estimate to remove his counter top (along with options to remove the backsplash and tile the wall after counter installation or just repair it and paint) and I did injure my foot, which necessitated my having to postpone the work. But he is wrong about so much else. I left Mr [member name removed] a message two days before I was scheduled to arrive (Saturday) informing him that I had sustained an injury that made it impossible for me to walk. He called me late on Sunday to verify my arrival the next day and informed me that he doesn't check his messages and I should have kept trying to reach him until I spoke with him. Ok. I told him that I knew I could not get there on Monday but that I would try for Tuesday and I would call him Tuesday morning to let him know. I did not call him Tuesday morning because he called me first - at a little after 7:00 am. I would never call a customer that early in the morning. In any event, I informed him that I was still not able to put weight on the foot but I felt I would be able to the following day. He became very agitated and recounted that the people from Home Depot were coming the next day I and the counter top needed to be removedetc, etc. I told him I was aware of that but that I could not do more than I was trying to do. When I arrived the next morning I was let in by Mr [member name removed] partner and I turned off the water under the sink and began discussing the work with my helper. During that process his partner mentioned the leveling of the cabinets. I told him that there were two ways to accomplish that - leveling the cabinets from the floor or leveling the counter from the top with shims on top of the cabinets. I explained to him that since his cabinets were in such poor condition I was going to see if I could do it without disturbing them from the floor. During the conversation I mentioned that despite what they had been told by Home Depot, leveling the cabinets was not a normal part of demolition but was actually the very first step in installation. I told him it sounded like the installers were taking advantage of the fact that they were not doing the demolition (they apparently wanted $40 more than what I quoted) to have someone else do that part for them. I went on to say that it could all be a moot point as the cabinets were likely to be level to begin with (which turned out to be the case) and I would get my level and check. It was at this point that Mr [member name removed] appeared. As I was leaving the room to go get my level, Mr [member name removed] was firing questions off to his partner about our conversation. When I returned, Mr [member name removed] was in a highly agitated state and began to verbally accost me. He went in to a speech about my responsibilities and the fact that I was not here on time and he was quite nasty. I listened for a moment then I stopped him in mid-sentence and told him that he needed to find someone else to do this work. I told him that he had no idea what he was talking about, that I never said I would not level the cabinets, and I would not have him lecture me about my responsibilities to him or how to run my business. So I left. Fast forward a couple of hours and I receive an email from Mr [member name removed]. In it he tells me what an "evil person" I am and how I should be "driven out of business". He goes on to relate a story about a previous handyman he had who was about my age who died of a heart attack, and he wrote: " I sincerely hope-and pray that you meet the same fate because you are a scourge upon humanity. You should have died instead of Mr. H****g. He was more of a man than you are, but sometimes evil people live while good people die." I consider myself lucky to have lost this customer...
