Rudy is hardworking, and cares about the job he does. He made great suggestions that made sense (and saved me $). He used materials from the railings he took down in the new railing. It looks great, but he made the railing sturdy - I don't have to worry about falling now.

Rudy's very professional. Came on time, was conscientious about cleaning up, and worked really hard. The most challenging part was the hardwood repair. It was truly an excellent work. I'm glad he's in Angies List. I expect to ask for his help in my future projects.

Before i start a project I always get a deposit depending on size of job I get 50% up front then balance on completion. That's what I did with this member. I never asked him for money every day. To do this project I had to go thru the attic pull down stairs in to the attic then thru a opening on the wall to get material in to the 2nd floor room. There was a very tight spiral staircase to get up there. So he told me the steps are old and needs to be replaced. The second day I opened it it fell apart. That was the first day I opened it. He opened it the first day I think it was a set up so can can blame me for it. I gave him a price to paint but he said he would do it him self. So I told him he has to prime it first so it seals the new Sheetrock & spackle. If you put one coat on it you will see the spackle. I never got a call from him as he said he kept calling me. That's not true. I washed my hands in his bathroom he didn't like that so he locked the door. I wasn't going to the basement that's where his daughter was sleeping & the kitchen had the dog caged up. What was I suppose to do?

Rudy's a rockstar. He's fast, affordable, and he knows what he's doing. Our house is around 85 years old and a lot's been done to it over the years - and not all of it correctly. Rudy was able to deal with any and all "surprises" that showed up in our walls and get the job done the way it should have been done in the first place. Will definitely be using him again!

Rudy responded to my first inquiry promptly. Set time to come to estimate job and called when he was on the way. He also called to keep me informed on when estimate would be ready. This was over a 4 day period. We set date for work a week later and work was completed in 3 days. He had a helper for 1 day when the most work was scheduled. I've added more work to this project and expect to hear from Rudy next week with an estimate. It's important to me that I like the guy's personality. Rudy was friendly. Just be specific on what work you need done and Rudy will accomplish it.

I hired Rudy for a smaller project back in December (see review dated 12/28/15) and I was so impressed with his professionalism and the quality of his work that I gave him the opportunity to bid on this larger bathroom renovation project. I decided to hire Rudy for three reasons: 1. His work ethic, expertise and the quality of his work. 2. He provided a competitive estimate for the work being performed 3. He was able to get started immediately. The bathroom was located in a rental unit so each day that the project remained unfinished was costing me money. Rudy understood and respected this fact and was not only dedicated to completing the project swiftly but also to the highest level of quality possible. He even worked on the project while fighting a nasty cold. The entire project, from estimate to final inspections, took about a month. There were (as there always is) a few unforeseen hidden issues that surfaced once walls were removed. However, Rudy provided detailed and reasonable estimates for the required additional work and kept cost over-runs to less than 10% of the total project estimate. In Conclusion: Once again, Rudy did not disappoint! He was prompt, professional, conscientious and considerate. His attention to details, coupled with his well-rounded knowledge of construction materials, methods and techniques instills confidence in him and his work. He kept me well informed and offered his suggestions and advice throughout the entire project. He also worked with me to coordinate scheduling with the plumber and electrician that I had hired. I have already hired Rudy from "Tools to the Rescue" for another project and will continue to do so. I highly recommend Rudy and "Tools to the Rescue".
Description of Work: Complete bathroom renovation including: Removal of wall and floor finishes down to wood stud framing and concrete slab. Installation of required wood furring, insulation, sheetrock, cement backer board, 6" x 6" porcelain tile tub surround, 12" x 12" floor porcelain tile, waterproof 24" x 24" drop ceiling, baseboard trim and mirrored medicine cabinet. Also taped, spackled, primed and painted walls, baseboard, window and door.

Everything went well. The new toilet seat was faulty and couldn't be installed as per the instructions in the box but Rudy was able to fix it. The shower head/handheld shower seemed to be a normal installation as did the two exterior light bulbs. He tightened the screws on the door knob so it is now functional. One door could only be shut by slamming it. He tightened the screw on one side of the hinge and put a very long screw in the other side of the hinge. The door now shuts normally. The other door could not be shut because it hung wrong (old house) but he was able to shave off the top edge so the door now shuts securely. The drawer was made to fit together without nails or glue. It had, however, fallen to pieces. He was able to fit it together without nails or glue--something I was unable to do. My only regret is that I didn't call Rudy sooner.
Description of Work: We needed several small jobs done. Rudy came early the next day as promised. He installed a toilet seat and a shower head/handheld shower combo. He also fixed a door knob that kept falling off and changed the bulbs on two outdoor lights that were too high for us to reach. He also repaired a bureau drawer that had fallen apart. And he fixed two doors.

I contacted Rudy from Tools to the Rescue based on his stellar record/reviews here on Angie?s List and he did not disappoint. I was pressed to find someone who could patch/spackle various plaster walls/ceilings in a five room apartment that I was prepping prior to painting. I needed the work to be performed during the brief period between tenants and while the apartment was unoccupied. I contacted Rudy the Saturday before Christmas. While other contractors may have pushed the project into January (after the holidays), Rudy understood that I needed help fast. He contact me immediately and completed the project in less than a week. He even worked on Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas (a Saturday this year). He was professional, conscientious, honest and kept me informed with texts throughout the entire project. The work he performs reflects his respect for your property, your time and the quality of his craftsmanship. I was so impressed with Rudy and Tools to the Rescue that I am already looking into hiring him for a much larger project.
Description of Work: Patch/Spackle 10-15 areas where I scraped away loose peeling paint and old underlying wall paper. There was also a 2-3 square foot area in the dining room ceiling that was slightly sagging and where the plaster was starting to detach from the underlying lathe boards.

Rudy was very quick to return phone calls and provided a fast and fair estimate. The day of service he arrived on time and was prepared with all the tools needed to perform the job. He was quick and meticulous and even went so far as to keep me updated throughout the project. The project took less time than expected and afterwards Rudy actually cleaned up after himself. I am absolutely keeping his number for future jobs.

1) The basement work was ok. The new ceiling tile was not snug to each other and drifted in alignment. The opening he cut for a circular column was less than precise. He completed the job in 6 hours and the cost was $600. I think a cost of $100 per hour (no material included) is high. 2) In the bathroom, we provided enough vinyl floor planks that he could have made a better match of the wood grain. Other than that, we're happy with the job overall and Rudy advised us well on how to address the finish work along the tub and the wall. The bathroom took 4 hours and the job was quoted at $500-ish - again just labor and we feel, a bit overpriced.
Description of Work: 1) Rudy (along with a helper) re-installed wood panels on the basement ceiling after we took them down to run a gas line. He also installed new 12X12 stapled ceiling tiles both in the same area as the the wood panels and replaced stained ones as well. 2) Rudy (along with a helper) installed a new faux wood vinyl floor (adhesive tongue and groove) in our first floor bathroom.

Response from Tools To The Rescue
They had two boxes of staple up tiles one was old and one was new. The new tiles I used on the big area so they match and the old tiles had water stains and damage so I call her husband down to tell him of the situation and he said to go through them and use what you can. We needed more tiles so I asked him if he can buy more since they were supplying materials. When we got the new box the tiles were damaged so we called him down again and showed him. He said do your best. To replace tiles in the middle of the room is not easy when they are tongue & groove. The new pieces were a slight fife rant in size so it was hard to do. When I showed him I told him that was the best we can do with out doing the whole ceiling. The floor is vinyl mimics wood there isn't a way to match grain it was supposed to be random that's how they pack the box so it's random. I've done plenty of these floors and never got a complant.

Rudy and co-worker were prompt, efficient, and very professional. They began and completed the job in less than 7 hours. This included removing old ceiling tiles and supports and installing new supports and tiles in a large basement room. All old materials were removed and the room was swept. I highly recommend this company and would definitely hire Tools To The Rescue for our next project.

Tools to the Rescue was my first Angie's List experience and it was a good one! Rudy was very responsive to setting up a time for my needed repairs, confirmed details ahead of time (like did I have the light bulbs on hand), gave me a time estimate and said he would call me on my cell approx 15 minutes before arriving which he did. All my repairs were done quickly and efficiently. Thanks, Rudy! Jane Little Falls NJ

I called Rudy Thursday afternoon and by Friday at 10:00 the work was done. He was spot on time, measured and then went out to purchase the glass for me, and had the whole thing done in an hour. The door is old and has been painted a lot of times, so it was difficult to work with the wood strips that hold the glass, but he did a very neat job and left it looking good as new. I've used Tools to the Rescue twice without getting competing estimates; I'm not sure if there is someone cheaper out there, but I trust the way Rudy runs his business to offer rapid availability and punctuality. (And he texts, which is a plus!)

I used Rudy from Angie's list. I think overall Rudy did a pretty good job and my recommendation, would be to hire him I would-although there was a glitch or two as there is in life. Rudy removed a bedroom closet door which was a remnant from a sliding double door that I had previously had. The door was huge and swung out too far preventing me from having my other end table in the bedroom. Rudy measured the opening which was not a perfect standard size. Here's the rub: Rudy raised the original estimate. which I felt unfair. Rudy made a mistake in writing down the measurements of the door and bought the wrong door. He was annoyed that he had wasted time although no fault of my own, but because he had to come back a second time, return the door and order a new one from Home Depot, he was as I said very annoyed. I was running out of options because I was putting my house on the market for sale and I had a deadline to meet. I had interviewed a few other carpenters, etc, and even though he raised it he was still less expensive.I really felt that although he was put out, it did show he is very serious about his business and takes pride in his work. I just didn't like paying for his mistake. When came in exactly two weeks to the day I called Rudy about checking to see if door was in, I waited a extra day and did not hear from him. I played detective and went to Home Depot myself and found that in fact the door was in. I called him and he did come the very next day.! He installed the door perfectly. I am very pleased with his work. There was no gaps, no odd slants. Rudy is no-nonsense all about perfection and I highly recommend him. But the next time, I would say something to him.

Yes I felt bad about the door size not annoyed. The person that built the doorway should have framed it for a normal size door plus he installed the old over sized door with the finger pull and a door knob that looked bad. So since the door is custom it cost a little more then planed but it would have cost that anyway if ordered at the beginning. Every body makes mistakes it didn't cost her any different then it would have. She was upset because of her lead time so I said I feel upset also that I can't do the job that day for her. The door came in so I picked it up and installed it the next day. She was very happy and said I did a good job. That made me Happy. Thanks Rudy

,Rudy arrived promptly for estimate and very carefully took measurements and recommended retaining parts of steps which were intact instead of advising replacement of all which of course would be more expensive. He carefully inspected other areas which needed treatment in the house and gave me a very reasonable estimate for the entire job--my landscaper wanted almost $2,000 for ONLY fixing the steps! Rudy did all the work for $2,300...I would recommend him to anyone in need of general construction and handyman services. He'll be back in a few weeks to continue fixing up my sorely neglected old house. Thanks, Rudy--you're the best!!! DONN & CHRIS
