It was okay. I called and he came very quickly that day. He worked on the one side and he said he did the whole thing. When I checked it was like a ceiling with high end lights in it. I loosened one of them and checked up there and it was not done as well on that side as he said. I called him back and he came right away. I don't know what was going on and if he was lazy or what. He came right away and took care of it, but he kind of hinted it was expensive, but I don't know how to rate that. It was like a 20 over 20 sort of expansion and he couldn't probably blow in and I don't know what he was thinking. He kind of hinted that it was expensive but he had cheap price to start with and that was good. It wasn't a terrible experience. He did a pretty good job.

Tom from JC Insulaters was recommended to us by the Better Basement Company. The BBC finishes basements using a modular system with a unique wall covering made from a breathable, mold resistant fabric. We originally were going to consider this method but unfortunately the price to go that route was too expensive. We wound up negotiating a price with Tom to finish the basement using regular drywall. We also went to see a prior job he'd done to check out the quality of work. The owner there was happy and the quality was very high. Our project was more complex than a traditional basement refinishing job because we wanted the basement floor dug up to give us a ceiling height of a full 7 feet. Other contractors we invited were all glad to to take on the job of finishing the basement, but complained that the difficulty involved in digging up the floor would drive the costs upward of $35K. One local in-town contractor even give us a price of $46K for the same job. It took Tom and his crew about 6 weeks to do the entire job - digging, installing the sump pump, french drain, plumping and electric, etc. Since our basement had a separate entry to the outside, we barely saw his crew working. We did meet his brother (who works with him) and maybe 3 other guys on a few occasions, and all were nice and friendly. The basement turned out great - we use it as a workout room now but given how nice it is it's perfectly suitable as a bedroom. Additionally, the sump pump has gone off a couple of times - once during an October snow storm a few years back and then again during hurricane sandy. It's nice to know it's there. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend JC Insulaters.
