A-1 Affordable Construction

We had a tough beginning, with communication and not returning phone calls, and I was about to give up, but they finally came through, and we are very pleased with the work they did, very professional and cleaned up very well, we would definitely use them again for other work we needed to be done. ,

They were absolutely terrible. They came six hours late. They never did the work because they gave us an estimate. We called them that we had a coupon. It came in the mail. They said okay and then they called the day before they were gonna come. They could not honor the coupon eventhough it was there coupon. They couldn't honor the coupon because they said they had already given enough the best price. We hadn't even discussed the coupon. The price is a price and a coupon is a coupon. Those are two types of things. They wouldn't honor the 20% off coupon for first time customers. We kept calling them and they kept on saying that they were on the way. We needed the chimney work done so we just said okay even if they're not gonna honor the coupon, we would still use them. We set up an appointment day. They never showed up to do the work. We called them to tell them but nobody came and nobody called. They said that their guys were overbooked that day. They never called us to tell that they couldn't make it. We rescheduled but they didn't come the next day or the next time. They were very unreliable. That's why I did not go with them. In the end, I could not just trust them to do any work.

They were rude and dishonest and left information and pricing off of the estimate.

Not sure about insurance coverage. Good workers in very bad weather conditions

They promised my husband that the price for the 40 foot span was a great deal. They were supposed to call to schedule. We got other estimates which were much lower. They just showed up and began working (no call). I didn't have a choice as they were already working. Called to speak with office but they were rude and unhelpful. "This was the cash price". Can only imagine what regular price is as other estimates were 350-375. I paid because I have integrity but this company does not. Go elsewhere.

They came in and cleaned the chimney. The were very meticulous. Everyone was very neat, and professional. The price was extremely reasonable as well. I would recommend them to anyone.

.I found these guys in the phone book. I was desperate with a leaky chimney and they could schedule quickly. they had a good reputation online. I was not a member of Angie's list at the time. They arrived late after much calling back and forth, but the guys were very nice. There had been a leak in the capping on my fireplace chimney flashing, but instead of replacing it they appear to have just tarred over the leaks. They then tarred over cracks in the peak of my roofing to seal some leaks, and told me my furnace liner should be replaced, (which hopefully was true....it WAS at least 25 years old). So they did that. This of course meant the Fire inspector had to be scheduled to come check it at a later date, requiring an installer from A1 to be there. This was all set up after many phone calls between my township inspection office and A1, in which the township had to leave alot of unanswered messages. The Fire inspector arrived, the guy from A1 arrived, but due to the location of the furnace, a mirror and light would be required to see up the chimney to check the bottom connections. The guy from A1 didn't have either, and honestly had a difficult time getting around. He had spent the time waiting for the Fire Inspector telling me about his health problems. The trip to my basement (via an outdoor entry...no stairs) left him severely winded. There was no way he could've gotten on the roof if he'd had to. As he was not the person who installed the liner, he could not tell the Inspector how it had been attached. Inspection needed to be rescheduled. This time my husband waited for the inspection. Fire Inspector came. No A1. Finally after many calls it was determined that the guy coming had called in sick, and would not be coming. No one informed us, wasting our time and the Fire Inspector's. Third scheduling...the guy from A1 arrives early with all the proper equipment.....and his baby in a carrier! The Fire Inspector comes, the inspection happens fairly uneventfully; however, I am forced to babysit the technician's child for roughly an hour! Unprofessional indeed. The chimney passes inspection finally. The company then started calling me repeatedly to ask if I'd like to have my entire roof redone. They persisted even after being told no. Finally they stopped calling.. I would never use these people again. Perhaps they have improved since I used them 2 years ago, and maybe they are better at general construction, but I felt people should know about my experience.

I like them. They are very punctual, and cleaned up after themselves. They have fair pricing and they are very personable. The chimney looks great. I am very happy with the service

There was a small leak in the roof of my front porch/sunroom and a patch of roof on the side of the house was also leaking. The porch roof was a shingled roof with not much of a pitch. Gary from A-1 said the roof didn't have the right pitch for shingles and should be replaced with a rubber roof. Fine. They came, did the work and we paid them. Then a week or so later it rained, and the porch roof leaked in a different spot. So we called A-1 and they sent another guy over, Anthony. Anthony bad mouths the work from Gary's crew and said that Gary doesn't know what he's doing then tells me that there's more work that needs to be done, which would cost another couple of thousand. The guys that actually climb up on the roof and do the work told my wife in Spanish that the real solution for the problem could be fixed for about $300 and that the rubber roof wasn't even necessary. So these guys came back without the "bosses" and fixed the leak for $300 and it hasn't leaked in 2 years. Now I'm stuck with an UGLY roof that doesn't match the rest of the house and paid for work that I didn't need. These guys are so unprofessional, they bad mouthed their own work!!! To be fair, the side roof hasn't leaked since the work was done, but that doesn't make up for the eyesore out front and the poor professionalism.

They were kind of slow, they came and took a deposit and they came back to do the work after 3 weeks, they said that they were backed up because we had too much rain.

I did not accept the bid on the job because the worker didn't even look at what had to be done

my hot water heater wasn't venting properly and pse&g guy todl me it was a chimney problem. turns out he was wrong about the diagnosis, so this expensive work didn't solve my problem. - but I dont' blame a-1 for that. I had a few quotes and believe a-1 gave me a fair price. part of this complex job involved taking out the bricks at the base of my chimney outside and later replacing them. The work was flawless. I always call them for my gutter cleaning, so I've met a few of the people that work there and get a good vibe off these guys. A couple of times I called right before a storm, wanting to get on the days schedule at the last minute. I have to give them credit - they always show up if they promise.

After ned stevens gutter wasted my time I called these guys, they are worse, they sub contract everything out.. So heres what they did, I called them and then made an appointment and they showed up and said 200.00 for gutter installation and then stated my chimney was in disrepair and would fix now for 675.00 so I said go ahead since I knew I was going to have to address the chimney later this summer anyhow..The work seemed ok so far (maybe a little pricey for 3 hours work) but then a few days later I said when are we doing the gutter ? I was told 2 other jobs in my area fizzled out so the subcontactor comming from who know where wont come to my house just to do my gutter for 200.00. So i would have to wait 2 weeks or more until they get more business up here..So I spoke to the manger and got the same response..So still after 2 contactors and 3 weeks my gutter is still not installed...Be careful with this company as it seems they sub-contract out all their work

The chimney liner was correctly installed but I was charged double for extra work which should have only added 10 to 15 % to my original estimate.

They used a liner that was too small. The fireplace became unusable as a result--the house fills with smoke. (They also failed to properly seal the spaces between the liner and the flue and the damper they installed doesn't open fully!) Repeated calls complaining went unanswered and I am now spending over $4000 to have the job redone correctly. I should have sued them.

All I wanted was an estimate for gutter cleaning and securing my gutters. I was told that someone would be here between 8 and 5 which I felt was a long time to wait. I called around 1 and was told that someone would call within an hour of their arrival. They had no idea how long it would take for someone to come. At 4:15 I still hadn't heard from them and so I called again. I was then told that 'maybe they won't come today and they'll come tomorrow.' I questioned why someone didn't call me to at least say they were running late or that I would have to postpone it. I waited all day. If I had taken off a day from work, it would have been a wasted day. This company didn't have the decency to call. It seems they just didn't care about their customers. The person that answered the phone said I had an open appt. which was never explained when I made the appt. She said very nonchalantly that if they come, they come, if not then you'll have to wait. She said that maybe they will still come. I questioned that it was getting dark and how were they supposed to see my gutters and what was to be done. She said 'I don't know.' My appt. which would have taken ten minutes tops, I guess was not considered important enough. I'll find another company that at least will understand that customers come first.

Don't waste your time waiting for they show up.

They did remove the old roofing materials and hauled away old stuff. They did leave a few little messes behind on the roof itself. We did have to ask them to pick up those things, but they did it, and were ok good about it. We asked them to remove the satellite dish and replace the roof tile area beneath it with the new stuff, and they did without incident. If you get a coupon from their website, show it to them at the time of the estimate. They did not honor it at the end of the job. Overall, they did a good job and followed through when they said they would.

Scheduled a chimney cleaning and they never showed up! They gave me a 3 hour window. Nobody called either, I had to call them to find out why they never came.

they didnt water proof along the chimney and the house. They didnt replace any bricks, they wrapped it with the screen and cemented over it. (may be just as good not sure) The job they did looks pretty good, but I'm not an expert on the work they did. Will see if it holds up then will report back.

I received a very nice letter for choosing them. I don't doubt them but I want to be sure about them that they are not over charging them. I don't have many doubts. I scheduled them to come out. They were scheduled to come out a week ago and they did not show. I called them and the office people said they should of called but they did not. They were suppose to come Saturday at 11am and they did not and they rescheduled for Monday and today is Monday and they are still not here. They did not write this out in a contract.

I have had to pay over $1100.00 to correct work done incorrectly by this company and to repair damages to my house caused by their incorrect work. I am in contact with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs, about this company. There is an ongoing investigation into this company. A1 Affordable failed to attach the flashing to the chimney correctly after the rebuild. I know this because water poured into my house as a result of their complete incompetence. I also know this because one of their own employees inspected the work that had been done and stated that there were multiple things that had been done incorrectly. Lastly, I know this because of the work that had to be done by another contractor to correct A1 Affordable's incompetence. A1 failed on no fewer than three occasions to keep appointments to inspect their own faulty work. Then they sent an employee out when they had no appointment. Their "25 year warranty" is therefore completely useless. As I know from reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau, the contact person given on Angie's List for this company is interested only in covering up the shoddy construction work and non-existent customer "service" provided by A1 Affordable. Bottom line: don't just stay away from this company yourself. Keep your family, friends, and neighbors from making the costly mistake that I did--let them know never even to consider A1 Affordable.

THEY CAME OUT MEASURED ALL GUTTERS LENGTH.SPOKE ENGLISH BUT SPOKE FOREIGN LANGUAGE AS HE PREPARED ESTIMATE TO CO WORKER.CAME UP WITH OUTRAGEOUS PRICE OF $575!!!!!! FOR GUTTERS.THEN A PRICE FOR CHIMNEY SWEEP FOR $375!!HE SAID HE" USES THE BRUSH" CALLED OFFICE TO SEE WHY SO HIGH AND JUSTIFICATION AND TOLD "THAT`S THE PRICE" NO WRITTEN ESTIMATE GIVEN.

Quick response for an estimate. Work was scheduled for two days later and thunderstorms prevented the work from being done on time. After the storms cleaned up it was another two days without communication before they came to complete the job. Once they showed up everything was fine.

Work was done very well. They damaged a down spout gutter while removing snow off roof, but came within a couple days to repair it-no questions asked. I am very satisfied with the work they did.
