The installation went very well. They showed up on time, worked continuously throughout the one day job, three workers, very clean, courteous, and did a very good job, overall. A little pricey, but well worth the extra cost. The brochure they sent out was excellent and the booklet explained everything in detail which I hadn?t gotten from any other companies? estimates. The salesman from Quality 1st came with a laptop to show everything and explained things well.
Description of Work: I had basement waterproofing work including water guard, super sump pump, ultra sump pump, and ice guard. I had a floor drain put in to the sump itself. I also had a bright wall installed (vinyl covering on the wall) and crawl space vapor barrier seal.

They were very clean, nice, competitively priced, professional, and they did a great job. I had many different companies come and offer up solutions to the problem, and this company seemed like the best fit for me. Everyone from the people in the office, the people who did the estimate, the workers, all did a great job. I have had no problems at all so far and I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I had water in my basement, they installed a drain along the outer wall of two different rooms along with a sump pump.

I asked 1st Quality to come in and do and evaluation of an issue I noticed on one of the walls of the house. The 1st Quality representative came out to our house, on time, and did an assessment. He informed me that there was no fundamental issue with our foundation. I can't tell you how relieved I was. They were honest straightforward and very professional. I would recommend them highly.

Very happy with the service - both the evaluation visit and the actual installation. They were punctual, polite and did a very good job. A different contractor, who finished the basement after them was very impressed with their work. They cleaned up nicely after they were done. I would hire them again.
Description of Work: - Line basement walls with dryspace lining (some sort of sturdy tarp). - Install french drain around perimeter. - install sump pump with backup battery. - Replaced dehumidifier.

Overall, they were nice and punctual, but I asked about alternatives for keeping water out of our crawlspace, and they were not helpful. I asked the man who came to do an estimate about an exterior drain (because it seemed that it would be a good option for keeping water out of our crawlspace), but he wasn't interested in that solution to my problem and wanted to sell me a 6000 + dollar crawlspace liner and sump pump (wouldn't have helped in my situation, the walls and floor would have continued to be wet and mold would have grown, the house would have rotted, etc. Later, a landscaper did a great job of installing TWO external drains to channel water away from the house and improved the waterproofing on the exterior of our foundation for 2500. Quality 1st should at least advise people about the kind of solutions that are available for water in the basement/crawlspace, rather than only exploring the options that are expensive and that they want to provide.

Response from Quality 1st Basement Systems
Thank you for the feedback. We certainly appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your experience with our company. I certainly understand your reservations about the project when we quoted $6,000.00 and someone else quoted $2500.00 The outside work is certainly $2500 or less for what you had done. However, you are concerned about dampness and mold. The work you had done will not help eliminate the chance of mold, mildew or rot. Exterior drainage still allows damp air into your crawl space. The solution we offered would have created a DRY ENVIRONMENT in your crawl space, thus eliminating the possibility of mold and mildew. Our Clean Space system is specifically designed to reduce humidity and moisture in crawl spaces. Clean Space has also proven to reduce energy bills by creating a drier environment in your crawl space. Your exterior drainage may very well keep floods from happening for a period of time, however it cannot reduce the humidity which is what really causes mold, mildew and wood rot in a crawl space. I see we sent you a copy of our book "Crawl Space science. what to have done and why". If you can spare some time, the book goes into these two repairs in some detail. If you no longer have your copy, I would be more than happy to send you a new copy of the book. We do not recommend the Clean Space system simply because it may be more expensive. We recommend it because it is the right solution to your problem. You can see from our ratings below, we are not a fly by night organization or some high priced low value operation. We do what we say we will do. We said we would give you a free estimate and we did. We did not pressure you to buy and we showed up on time. We offer what we believe is the right solution based on our experience and reports from building science companies around the country. If you believe otherwise we respect your opinion. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at anytime. Robert Cherry G.M Quality 1st Basement Systems

I read they had good reviews on Angies List and called them on June 16th to schedule an estimate. They said they could not do the estmate until July 2nd. They may be very busy but they certainly need more sales help if it takes over two weeks to just get an estimate. They lost my business for sure.

Response from Quality 1st Basement Systems
Members, Thank you for your feedback. I certainly understand your urgency to have an estimate. However, we are booked out for estimates. With our very good rating and large referral base we do at times get booked out for estimates. We could easily "just add" sales people, but we invest a lot of time and training into people before we send them out on estimates. I am sure you understand and would not want someone untrained with no experience at your home. We pride ourselves on having the best trained staff in the business. I would really like to set you up with an appointment. If it takes a week or so it allows you to get 2 other estimates which the BBB recommends. This way you have comparable estimates to make an educated decision. Thank you Bob Cherry G.M Quality 1st Basement Systems.

At the time it seemed to go well. After they left I found they had not reattached a screen on a window that they had removed to get things in and out of the basement. In addition in a few spots we are still getting moisture in the basement. I have contacted the salesman twice and he has said that service would be in touch with me but I haven't heard a thing from them. When asked above if I would ever use this company again I hesitantly marked yes but I'd have to see what their competition is like. At the time they were rated higher on Angies list then their competition. So I'm not sure.

They did a really good job. They were clean and didn't pressure me. They were informative and spent a lot of time. I was really sold on them and the workmanship was good. My basement hasn't flooded again. I really appreciated that they didn't pressure me. They had different systems to offer and they came and demonstrated them and there was no pressure at all because I am really an easy mark.
Description of Work: I used Quality 1st Basement Systems because I had a flooding basement. They built something like a french drain, but it is not a french drain. It is a special drain with a pump in the room that was flooding.

I had a poor and disappointing experience for 2 main reasons. 1. 30 days after the water guard system was installed, the system failed when we just got our first heavy rain (today!). In the one area that I had them install the water guard system, but did not purchase their ?bright wall? covering (behind my washer), I witnessed the same problem before I paid my $1400 - wet cinderblock from hydrostatic pressure. The salesman?s (Quality 1st?s basement expert) response: ?99% of the time our system works, but our warranty doesn?t cover wet walls.? He was correct per their warranty, but, of course, when the salesman wanted my business he vowed that if the system didn?t work, he would ?make it right.? He was only concerned if I had water on my deck that passed outside the system. He encouraged me to call him if/when I wanted to purchase more of his ?bright wall? system. This was not what I expected from the ?experts? that gave me so much literature and marketing material trumpeting their customer service and knowledge of basement problems. 2. I originally got a quote for the job in July and had to hold off for financial reasons. I had the salesman revise the quote for a cheaper grade of wall system in Oct, and further mentioned I had an Angie?s list coupon for $250 off any job over $1000. Salesman resent the quote via email, but I noted that the $250.00 was not taken off the quote. Called salesman about this and he stated that the coupon posted on Angie?s list was wrong; it should?ve been $250 off of $2000. He said he would honor it anyway. Sent back the quote and it only reflected $50 off. Salesman then explained that he had to add back in the 10% he originally took off as it could not be used w/Angie?s list coupon. Tried to speak with salesman?s boss and instead rec?d a call from an enraged salesman. I still spoke to his boss, and I asked him that if the coupon wasn?t correct, why wasn?t Angie?s list contacted and the coupon corrected? He stated that he didn?t put much credence in Angie?s list and that correcting coupons was last on his list. I should?ve cancelled at that point and not had the job done. Technicians/installers were late, but courteous once working. Company should?ve asked me to save water for cement mixing or had their own solution since my water had to be turned off for the job. Instead they had me asking my neighbor to use his garden hose in November. They shouldn?t have an all-star rating.
Description of Work: Installed "water guard" system on wet cinder block wall behind my well water tank and along perimeter of part of my basement leading into my workshop. (Tank had to be removed by a separate company for $117.00 not included above). Installed bright wall system in same area. Installed their water guard system over an area where I had an older basement system that was slightly the same as theirs. Did not put up "bright wall" in this area behind my clothes washer.

I had a problem with the clean space. It did not look anything like the pictures that I was shown. It was hung very sloppily. It is like a white vinyl covering so if there is a leak it leaks behind in and goes into the trenches. There are seams but they were not noticeable in the picture. The seams in my basement are uneven and a lot of it is taped up. It is also cut unevenly. With the type of basement we have it was difficult to install and they did not tell us this. It is embarrassing. Also, when they dug the trenches they made holes above them and did not patch them. Someone is coming out to correct this but I had to contact them and speak with someone to get this done. They also dug the trenches very close to a rhododendron bush and hit some of the roots. Other than that everything else with the outside work looked fine. The guys that did the job finished early, did work very hard, and cleaned up well but they had no eye for aesthetics. They also did not speak English and I could not discuss my concerns. No one came to the job site to check on the project during or after to make sure I was happy. The trench work was much better than the clean space and the grades reflect the average of the two. The clean space work alone would have received lower grades. In addition, when there were issues with the trenches they were very responsive and I would give the man I worked with an A. However, the guy in charge of the clean space is not responding to my issues.

The three installers were on time, friendly and hard working. The completed the entire system in one day. They worked hard and knew exactly what they were doing. A fantastic experience from start to finish.
Description of Work: They installed a drain system in the basement They first cut out a 4-inch trench around the perimeter of the basement using jack hammers. Then they installed channeling in the trench and brought it to a central large bucket. Then they installed gravel in the trench and covered it up with concrete. They then installed the pump and piped the output to the outside.

Great company to work with. The sales call was scheduled right away and the sales rep was prompt; left a detailed estimate with drawings, etc. I called them after they had finalized the estimate and told them I had an Angie's list coupon and they took that amount right off the total, no problem. They came on the day and at the time they said they would. Confirmed every aspect of the job with me before the proceeded and cleaned up when they were finished. We've had several heavy rains since they completed their job and so far everything is working fine. I would definitely give them a call for any waterproofing project whether new or a replacement.

We had problems with water seeping into the basement every time it rained outside. We got 3 estimates from different waterproofing companies, and not only was Quality 1st. Basement Systems the most reasonable, but their salesperson was neither pushy nor an alarmist (like those from the other companies had been), and he was very honest about what we did or didn't need. The workers showed up on time and completed the job within 1.5 days, as promised. They cleaned up after themselves, and so far everything seems nice and dry in the basement, even after several days of rain.

They did a great job and I liked them. Their professionalism kind of sank a little at the end. They gave us an estimate and we definitely stuck with it. At the end, they said that they had upgraded us with lights and a couple of other things, and that those would cost us extra. The work had already cost us $30,000 and they had just gone ahead and upgraded things without discussing the upgrades with us. My husband told them that we would pay for the additional costs that we were aware of but not for those upgrades that they didn?t discuss with us beforehand. After that we haven?t heard from them. The basement looks gorgeous and we have received many compliments - we love it because everything is fine with it. They told us that they were going to take 2 weeks to do the job and it took them a month and a half. I felt that their price was high too.
