I am very pleased by the work Quality First did. Their representative Nick Bris came to my home and spent over 2 hours explaining what had to be done. Juan the office manager told me the workers would be at my home by 9:30am and they came at 8:30am. They were clean and efficient. I have barely any dust in my basement considering they had to jackhammer 2/3 of my basement to install the channel work. They were done by 2pm and cleaned up immaculately. I cannot say enough to thank Nick and to thank Quality First for a first-rate job. I would recommend them to anyone without any reservation.
Description of Work: Quality first assessed the need for channel work. They dug up around the permiter of my basement to install their type of channel work. They were professional and clean. Would recommend them again.

We got them from Angie's List. We had damage after the flood and the storm dislodged and broke the beams and therefore has caused a lot of structural damage to the house like the tiles came up and they knew how to do this work and I am absolutely thrilled with everything about them and they are going to do my work as soon as I am fully recovered. I did not have flood insurance, just home owner's insurance and it is almost $8000 worth of work to be done but compared to other people because I had an estimate from one other person and it was far more reasonable and much more professional. They are licensed and insured. I just like everything about them. I am hiring them.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Tom Roman's Quality First Basements for repair of the structural damage caused by the storm to our house.

They cleaned up the dust and prevented the dust from getting on everything in the basement by covering everything. They They set up an excellent system for the pump that runs outside which is very unobtrusive. They consider themselves a dry basement and crawlspace specialist, which I would agree with them. They come back and take care of any problems immediately. I had one minor problem that got taken care of immediately. Their salesman is very professional and extremely nice. The drain system is well done.
Description of Work: They re-insulated my crawl space. They installed a sump pump and a french drain.

We have only done one estimate appointment.
Description of Work: We had the company come and give an estimate for basement waterproofing, crawl space waterproofing, and foundation support reinforcing. We were impressed with the presentation, and the first two projects are both impressive and within our price range. The foundation support seems like a good idea, but priced out well beyond what we can afford. I was also concerned that there was not a fall back or medium solution to shoring up the foundation beyond this very expensive option. We also had a little glitch in the appointment process, which colored the experience a little negative from the start. We are still considering hiring the company for waterproofing, and possibly the crawl space work as well. My husband wants to get more bids. We always learn something more when other folks come to do the consultation and estimate. This company seems to have a good solid and scientific approach, they just might be the Mercedes, and we can afford a Dodge. Ultimately, depending on the estimates, the Dodge might do just fine.

I got 3 quotes and theirs was the most expensive. OK each quote gave a different solution but I didn't trust the other 2 at all and I liked the solution that this company offered/ though was suitable. They explained why the other solutions I had been quoted for were not appropriate for my repair and I believe they were correct. The literature that these guys provided before estimating was very useful. They also had a long lead time...another sign that these are the people to go with.

I had them do a lot of work for me and I am pretty happy with them; they did a great job. The sales guy was on-point and worked with me to get the quote down. The guys that came cleaned up very well and it was a good product. There was only one issue; the carpet tiles did not match so they picked up a lot of the tiles without question and replaced them so they all matched. Because of that they gave me another discount. They were very agreeable and working with them was not a hassle.
Description of Work: I used Tom Roman of Quality 1st Basement Systems to put in a drainage system in my basement with a sump pump battery backup. They also mold-proofed and water-proofed my basement walls. This company also put down a water proof quasi-carpet system to keep the basement floors warm.

Workmen arrived ontime on the designated day. They worked steadily and accomplished all work as previously outlined by the sales person. The team of three performed in a professional and courteous manner. The area not being treated was shielded off and all debris removed. There was minimal resulting dust.
Description of Work: Installed a Waterguard drainage system on three sides of the basement to replace a drain that no longer functioned. There has not been a sizable rain since then to determine how well it works.

On 9/21/12, I met with NIck Biris of 1st Quality Basement Systems to obtain an estimate for waterproofing my basement. Mr. Biris arrived on time, and after a brief discussion, we went to view my basement. After viewing the basement, Mr. Biris observed the problem areas, took measurements, and advised me of the various options available to me for waterproofing the basement. He provided me with the cost of each option, and listed the pros and cons of each. He was very knowledgeable about both, the products used and the installation process, and was able to answer all of my questions. Once I made my decision to use 1st Quality Basement Systems, and about a week prior to the work being done, 1st Quality mailed me a packet which provided detailed information on the various methods of waterproofing basements, the different products used, and why 1st Quality chose the products and methods of installation. The day before waterproofing my basement, Mr. Biris called me to ensure that I had received the packet, that I had read it, and asked me whether I had any questions regarding the work being done. Both the informational packet and his phone call, helped to sooth my fears about this major work being done right. A day or two after the work was completed, I again received a phone call from Nick Biris, who called to inquire whether I was happy with the work, and whether there were any further questions. All in all, I am completely satisfied with both the Sales Rep. Nick Biris for his vast knowledge, his patience for answering my numerous questions, and for his follow up phone calls both prior to and after the work was completed, as well as the work crew that was headed by Jesus, who arrived early, was polite and conscientious about protecting my home from the dust and debris and getting the job done correctly.
Description of Work: On 10/2/12, my basement was waterproofed by 1st Quality Basement Systems by installing a sump pump, and applying a waterproof lining to the unfinished concrete basement walls. The work crew from 1st Quality headed by Jesus, arrived about a half hour early, and were polite and courteous. They ensured that my belongings stored in the basement were protected from the dust and debris by using drop cloths, as the work required jack hammering through concrete floors. The crew installed the sump pump and wall liner as agreed, and then pour new concrete in the areas that were dug up. When they finished installing the sump pump and wall liner, the crew from 1st Quality cleaned up afterwards, leaving my basement neat and tidy. Overall, the whole process took about seven (7) hours.

The installation crew arrived on time and proceeded to work immediately. I never thought they would complete the job in one day but they did. They worked non stop and cleaned the basement up removing all debris which was no easy job. They carried buckets and buckets of concrete up a flight of stairs and into their truck. There was nothing remaining to take care of. It was one of the neatest construction jobs I have ever seen. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. The personnel I dealt with were all very professional and helpful.
Description of Work: Installed an entire waterproofing system in the basement and repaired two cracks in the wall. They also installed a sump pump in the appropriate area which was different than the original area. It was placed where it should have been in the first place.

They had come out twice and both the times, they were terrific in sales test. The guy had a very good presentation on the laptop and showed us all the steps required as well as the prep work. He showed us all the videos and samples of the products to show us. He really explained well how the system is all integrated and patented; and it is all in their own system. He made clear to us that we had to do another demo work and other things to prepare before they can come in. We know that we will be having them do the waterproofing and sump pump, but they are a bit pricey in terms of their product for finishing; so we haven't decided that we are going to remain with them or go to another party for that. It was a free estimate and the same guy came both the times.

The salesman Don was pleasent, professional, and answered all my questions and assured me of the quailty of the products and the workmanship. I was shown samples of all the material. I thought the price was a bit high but decided to use 1st Quality based on the reviews they received on Angies List and because I was impressed with the flooring they offered. I was contacted a few days after signing the contract and given an installation date of 07/09 and 07/10, I was told by the salesman (Don) and the manager (Juan) that it would be a 2 day installation, start to finish, I was also told by Juan that the crew would arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 am. On the morning of 07/09 I waited for the crew to show up. At 9:45 they had not arrived so I called Juan to find out if they were on their way. I told the woman who answered the call that I had a project scheduled and the workers were an hour late and I wanted to ask Juan if they were on the way. I was told Juan was on another call and put on hold. After about 2 minutes I was told he was still on a call and would I like to hold or get a call back I chose to hold. After about 5 more minutes on hold I was told Juan was still on the phone and he would call me back. A few minutes later at 10:00 the truck pulled up at my house. When I greeted the workers I asked the foreman Jesus why they didn't call to tell me they would be late, he siad he was very sorry for that. It was 10:30 when they started the work. They did a good job of covering up my appliances and the work they did digging the trench for the french drains was good. At 11:30 I decided to call Juan to ask why he didn't call me back and why no one called to tell me they would be late. He said that Jesus called him when they got to my house so he saw no reason to call me back! By 5:00 that afternoon they had the trench dug out and about 1/3 of the walls covered in the "clean space" membrane, I knew they were way behind. I asked Jesus how much longer they would be working, he said they would connect a pipe to the pump and be back tomorrow. I asked him how they could install the flooring if the concrete was not cured, he told me the floor would be installed on Wed., that this is a 3 day job. I told him Juan scheduled 2 days and I had to be at work on Wed. he said he was told it was 3 days. After the workers left on monday I checked out the job they were doing installing the "clean space",it was a very bad job! The membrane was all cut up and had gaps and folds, the corners were cut up and there were pieces of membrane dangling in the corners. It looked like someone took a switch blade and just slashed at it. I immediately called Juan and told him about it in a voice mail and to call me as soon as possible. The following morning when they arrived I showed them how bad it was, Jesus agreed and said they would re-do it and it would look great. And it did look great! On Wed. they installed the floor and it looks great. In the end the job turned out very good. Jesus is a very nice guy! the whole crew were very hard workers, nice and respectful. But if I didn't "over-see" the entire process it would have been very shoddy. Juan the "manager" never returned my call!! Juan is the worst manager I have ever delt with! If he worked for me I would fire him! His customer service is atrocious. If you use this company remember two things. Be there at all times and inspect the work several times along the way, and if "Juan" is the manager, demand someone else!
Description of Work: Had old french drains and sump pump removed. Replaced with new french drains, "triple safe" pump, back-up battery pump, water proof floor tiles and "clean space" wall system installed.

I had the quote since the fall of 2011 (Oct) and decided to move forward 5 months later. they honored same pricing. the crew they sent in was punctual and completed the work in one full day. haven't had enough flooding since to confirm the work will eliminate the flooding, nothing as of yet would point to the solution not being 100% effective. the main reason for a B in quality is the final finish of the cleanspace wall lining, is patched together and looks a little cheap. the basement is more of a shop and storage area, it is not terrible, just a little glossy and plastic looking.
Description of Work: approx 80 linear feet of drain/water guard installed in unfinished basement. includes a sunken sump pump that feeds to a drain 15' from home in back lawn. 4' high clean space wall paper/lining was also installed.

From the first meeting with the account salesman, he provided me with all the information and references which took me a number of months to decide before committing to the job. All findings/testimonials received from other customers were very positive. He was able to answer all my questions. The installers were prompt, professional and efficient. There were hardly any damage to the existing walls, dividers and stairwell. They left my basement area all clean with minimal dust. I definitely recommend this company.

Description of Work: I had initially given this company a poor rating because the first company representative was a no-show at our scheduled appointment. But I am very pleased with the visit I had with the 2nd representative. . It was a very smooth process. We had 3 contractors give estimates and even though theirs was the highest, though not by much, we choose them. The materials they used seemed so much sturdier then the others. The men were there right on time and got right to work. It was thought to be a 2 day job but that afternoon more workers showed up and the entire job was completed in one day. We had heavy rains right after they finished but not a drop entered our basement.
Description of Work: They installed an interior trench drain and a double sump pump. You can imagine the mess the jackhammer made going through the old cement floor but they cleaned everything! So far the new drainage system is working.

UPDATE: Although I had some difficulties with this company, in the end, the company, for the most part, corrected the issues. The most important issue was that the basement floor was not smoothed before the tiles were installed onto the floor (as was originally promised). The supervisor cared about his company's reputation, and offered to pick up the tiles, smooth the floor, and lay the tiles back down again. When I mentioned that the tiles could be damaged if picked up, the supervisor promised to replace all tiles that were damaged. He followed through with his promise. In addition, one of the workers who originally worked in my house, apologized for not making sure that the job got finished. The work went fine at first, related to the installation of the drain, pump, and wall. The workers paid attention to detail. They cleaned up well. The workers were courteous and did little extra things that showed they took pride in doing a good job, at least with the drain work (not with the floor). I have had no apparent leaks into my basement, except during tropical storm Irene, where about a cup of water somehow by-passed the drain and ended up on my basement floor. Now for the caveats. I was assured by the sales rep that although the floor was bumpy, the workers would see where the floor was bumpy and make it smooth before placing the tiles on the floor. The sales rep knew this was important to me and knew that I would not have done the job otherwise. Unfortunately, he failed to inform the workers of this! So, after the drain and wall system was installed, the workers started to lay the floor down without any attempt at smoothing the floor first. When I tried to tell the foreman that I was promised the floor would be smoothed first, he said they don't do that. I told them that was my agreement and had to call the sales rep and get the sales rep to communicate his agreement, with me, to the foreman. When the foreman got off the phone he assured me that he would lay the floor down first, then check where the floor was not even, then lift up the tiles to smooth the floor. Big mistake. After they put down the floor, I had to check where the floor was bumpy, which was just about everywhere! It would have made much more sense to smooth the entire floor first and then lay the tiles, that would have been "quality first." I doubt if it would have taken more than a few hours of labor and a few bags of patch. So this was what the lead worker then started to do: he lifted up some tiles that were uneven and put down some concrete to smooth the underlying area. Then he proceeded to put the tiles right on top of the wet cement. This is absolutely wrong: the cement has to dry so that the tile sits on top of the smooth hard surface. If the cement is wet, the tile will sink into the cement right back down to the bumpy surface. I just showed some doubt in my voice about his method and he stopped doing that. He then proceeded to lift tiles in the worst bumpy areas, then smooth with cement and then leave it open to dry. But now he would have to come back another day to let the cement dry. The foreman reassured me that they would definitely come back to finish the job and asked me to pay the whole bill, except for 500 dollars, which I would have to pay when they come back to finish the job. We set up a day for them to come back a few days later. Another big mistake, because they did not come back, nor did they call to reschedule; they just did not show up. 500 dollars appeared not to seem worth it for them to come back. I called Quality 1st a few times and left messages, but did not get a call back. I was very unhappy and disappointed with the uneven floor, and unfinished edges. In addition some tiles were starting to lift from their bases, after just a few months. I now had my doubts that Quality 1st would do the floor right, and, because I was in the middle of moving, I did not have the time/patience to deal with them. I put some of the floor tiles back myself and went on with my life. About three months later I got a call from Quality First, saying that I owe them 500 dollars. I said, politely, that the job was not finished as promised and I explained my disatisfaction. So the phone rep said that he would be willing to make an appointment for the workers to come back to me. I agreed on a date, but then I was told that I would have to pay the $500 first, and that if I did not, he could not finalize the date. Is this "reliability" or "con job?" I refused to pay before the work was completed. Then he tried to get me to pay at least 250 dollars to finalize the appointment. At that point I lost my patience and demanded to speak to a supervisor. He then changed his mind and said that because of my circumstances he would get a supervisor to call me so that the supervisor can first check out the floor before workers do the work, and that I could schedule a day without first paying. NOTE: As mentioned at the beginning, the company was concerned about its reputation, did what was promised, and apologized.
Description of Work: Update Note: Quality First responded to my dissatisfaction in this report. I therefore increased my rating of this company to a "B." Summary of problems I had: (1) water sometimes entered my basement (near the back corner of my house) when it rained; (2) some areas of the concrete basement floor were damp; (3) the basement floor was uneven and had a general downward slope; Quality 1st 's solution: install their unique plastic pipe into the ground around the perimeter of my basement, install a pump, install a mold-proof wall , and install a floor, all of which is unique to their company. Describing the problem in more detail: Water sometimes weeped through a few small holes in my brick basement wall when it rained . The brick wall rested on a poured concrete foundation, which did not leak (but quality first put holes in it anyway, thinking it would allow possible pent-up water to drain away (which I think was highly questionable and unnecessary). I did not know if the dampness on the floor was from a rising water table or from rain water temporarily saturating the ground and then slowly seeping through the concrete floor when it rains. While the leaks localized to about 30 percent of the basement, Quality 1st recommended that a full perimeter drain be installed, so any water coming from the walls or the ground would go into the drain and lead to a pump, and then the pump would pump the water outside to a hole that they dug in my back yard, covered by a grate, so it looks like a drain (but the drain does not lead to the sewer system, it was just a narrow hole into the ground). The pump never turned on, because it never filled up with water in the four months that I have had it. They installed mold-proof boards, about 3 feet high, replacing the lower portion of walls in one of my rooms in the basement. They look nice and if they get wet they supposedly would not have to be replaced. In addition, they installed a unique plastic tile in the main basement room (about 300 square feet). The tile is in two parts: the base is a one foot square plastic frame that is latticed. On top of the base is a vinyl tile that is glued to the base (which does not always stick well to the base). This design allows a space underneath the floor so that any moisture, or wetness, from the basement floor will evaporate, and supposedly, also be a water vapor barrier to the living area (although I do not see how it can allow water to evaporate and be a vapor barrier at the same time).

Ron called and I kinda gave him a hard time because I didn't want to waste my time with the pushy sales pitch I was expecting. I'd already had a few other estimates (NOT from Angie's list). He was courteous and, after discussing the situation, I decided to let him do an inspection. He was very helpful and told me that I had to have masonry done first. Very honest and forthright. I have a lot of respect for this company.
Description of Work: Did not use them because they honestly told me that masonry needed to be completed first. Ron was very informative, came up with a completely different solution that was more in tune with the situation. Still, work like this is not cheap and I have to factor for the masonry first and may not be able to proceed any further. Still, I would recommend them for someone who needs this done to their basement because they seem knowledgeable and honest.

Damon came onsite (after having to wait 1 month for appointment). I cant say enough good things about him; I am an engineer by trade and he answered everyone of my questions thoroughly and accurately. No rush and zero pressure, he was extremely helpful and genuinely cared about the issues i was having and trying to figure out the best solution as if he were working in his own home.100% honest and also the most knowledgeable about this business... We have met with 5 other waterproofing contractors and none can compare with the experience with Damon from Quality Basement Systems.I have some other things to do in the basement first but will contact Damon to do my work when ready. Also all the equipment they use is top quality and being an engineer I asked for detailed specifications w/ scenarios and Damon did not get hung up at all.... He knew almost everything at the top of his head....Fantastic experience; I wish all contractors were this good.

Everything went very well. They were clean, efficient and timely. They were good guys.
Description of Work: They came in and inspected my old sump pump. I had it installed in an emergency 20 years ago. They refinished the sump and then put in the pump. They also replaced the expulsion pipe. They put a sealed system above it with an alarm system.
