They caulked one vent pipe but did not see any issues that may have caused leaking. They were here no more than 5 minutes. 3 guys standing on the lawn - 1 guy holding the ladder and 2 on the roof. I watched the entire process - literally 5 minutes TOPS. I could have bought the caulk at home depot for $7 and did the exact same job. To top it off, Randy the owner shows up at my house, rings my door bell at 6:45 that evening looking for a check. Asked him if he thought $250 for 5 minutes work was fair. Answer, "well we fixed it" Paid him and will never use him again.

They did a very good job and a very reasonable price.
Description of Work: I was surprised to see such negative reviews on R&K. My experience was just the opposite. Randy was professional, courteous and very much on top of things, the price was very reasonable and they did a great and efficient job with the installation of a new roof on my home. I have and will continue to recommended them to friends.

Working with RK Roofing was one of the most unpleasant experiences of my entire life. The salesman, Gene, was a shyster and a liar. The owner, Randy, was a shyster who constantly tried to get over on me and the workers were some of the most incompetent people I've ever had the displeasure of hiring. The list below are things that I can remember as the job has taken two months to finish and is still not done as there is a huge pile of trash and debris still sitting in my driveway...enjoy! - I specifically told and showed our salesman, Gene, in pictures that the kitchen vent in the side of the house needed to be removed as it is no longer in use. Yet, when I came home from work, they had already installed new tyvek house wrap around the vent as if it was going to be left in place. When I mentioned this to Gene, he told me that they were going to remove it. When I explained to him that I was concerned that they weren't going to remove it because if they were, it should have been removed, the hole in the house should have been patched with plywood and tyvek put up over the repair, he told me not to worry about it that they had planned to remove it all along. This was the first day and this raised a red flag as to the intelligence of the workers for this company and the integrity of the salesman, Gene. - RK Roofing had to remove several fence posts and a section of fence to install the Hardie Board siding. When they reinstalled the fence posts, instead of digging post holes to secure the posts as they had been before RK Roofing removed them, RK Roofing used 3 long nails and 1 long screw to screw and nail the fence posts into the new Hardie Board siding to secure them! They also reinstalled the fencing very shabbily and upside down! When I informed RK Roofing about this, they dug holes to install the fence posts and reinstalled the fencing quite solidly...BUT STILL UPSIDE DOWN!!! (I know, you can't make this stuff up!) - We had RK Roofing rebuild our entire front porch. While doing the job, Randy, the owner of RK Roofing, informed us that it was customary to leave the pressure treated wood as the fascia board on a finished front porch and that it was going to cost us an additional $1,100 to finish it with Azek like the rest of the house. After informing Randy/RK Roofing that if they didn't finish it correctly, I was going to have someone else finish it correctly and take the cost to do it out of the final payment, RK Roofing did what they were supposed to do. I suspect they do this to most of their customers in an attempt to get extra money out of them. - RK Roofing also installed Hardie Board and Azek on our detached garage. Instead of finishing the garage front flush with Azek, they installed our light fixtures on a cut out piece of Azek on top of the old wood! When I asked Gene why they would do this as it looked awful, he told me that Azek plank didn't come in the widths necessary to do the entire front in one piece. Upon being told this, I went to the Azek website and found this to be a lie. I informed Gene/RK Roofing of this and they finished the job with Azek as they should have. - In order to do the job, RK Roofing had to take down both of our storm doors (front and side). Instead of carefully taking them down, putting all pieces, screws and trim neatly in a secure area, RK Roofing carelessly left them laying on the ground among all of the other construction debris and wound up losing pieces, screws and trim to both doors causing us to have to replace both doors. I took money out of the final payment to help pay for the new doors. - RK Roofing damaged the GFI electrical outlet that routed electric from the house to the detached garage leaving me with no electric to my garage. I called an electrician to fix it and was told that RK Roofing had probably damaged the underground electric wire that led from the house to the garage when they dug the post holes for the fence. In order to fix it, I had to remove the GFI outlet on the outside of the house and wire it directly, causing me to lose an exterior electrical outlet. I took money out of the final payment as restitution. - 3/4 of the way through the job, our salesman, Gene, informed me that I was going to need an additional 12 sheets of plywood for the exterior of the garage as there was no plywood on the garage under the current siding. This should have been easily discovered during the initial quote phase of the job. Nothing was hidden and anyone quoting this job should have easily seen that there was no plywood under the siding simply by opening the garage door and looking at all of the light coming in from the outside! This was just another way for RK Roofing to scam us out of an additional $1,500. - When I made up the final punch list for RK Roofing, I noted that there were still 4 windows that had not been caulked on all 4 sides. I clearly explained which windows they were so they would be done. When I spoke with Gene, our salesman, he explained to me that they had been done that day and that he had personally seen this himself. When I got home from work I decided to check it myself to be sure and sure enough, the windows had not been done and Gene had blatantly lied to me again. - RK Roofing broke the radon mitigation system on my house. When I noted on my punch list that they had to repair it, they did a half-assed job of it causing me to have to call in a repairman to fix it properly. I took the cost to repair it off of the final bill. - After RK Roofing had "finished" the job, they left a huge pile of trash and debris in my driveway. When I called Gene, our salesman, he gave me his word that this would be taken away the next day. The next day came and went. The next week came and went and to make a long story short, the pile of debris is still in my driveway and I will have to arrange and pay for Waste Management to take it away. I took the cost to remove this pile out of the final payment. - RK Roofing started this job the third week of September and didn't finish until the third week of November. They would go long stretches without showing up or calling so you never knew when they were coming or if they were coming. My decision to use RK Roofing was one of the worst decisions I've ever made in my life. If you like dealing with shysters, being lied to and having to constantly babysit a job due to incompetence and deception, then RK Roofing is the company for you. Personally, I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.
Description of Work: RK Roofing removed all of our old siding and trim and installed tyvek house wrap, Hardie Board siding and Azek trim on our house and garage. They also rebuilt our front porch.

Workers showed up after a snow. No advance notice. Swept snow and roofed addition. I noticed a day or two later that they had left without finishing the sealing/tarring the area where the chimney met the new roofing. Meanwhile, the company was calling for final payment. When I indignantly explained that they left part of the roof unfinished, they later responded that "Oh, the guys had run out of material." They did come to resolve the problem. Workmanship in general seemed ok. I later reviewed this problem with the owner, Randy, because I had another job pending with him and he responded sarcastically "Well, if you're not happy with our work, then why would you want us to do another job for you?" I said 'Good question." As I recall now, he then hung up on me, but whether he did or didn't, he essentially left the conversation at that point. They are cheap, but I wouldn't recommend them. Not the first mishap I'd had with them either.

Had to follow-up a few times to find out if they completed the work. However, once they did the work, they called to let me know and haven't had a problem since. Called them again for several other repairs (another leak) and siding repair. The responding very quickly. Work was done efficiently.
Description of Work: Repaired leak around vent, pipes and chimney.
