Public Sewer Service

I called to find out how much it would cost to fix a clogged toilet. Jaimie quoted me a price of $250 and told me that he could schedule me for the next morning. I asked if it was possible to have someone come the same day and he said yes. Someone came between the hours of 5-7 pm. After checking out the issue, I was told that my toilet isn't clogged and the problem is that the ejector sewer pump is not working. H e quoted me a price of $1,695 plus tax for labor and service. $1,695 !!! My husband and I thought it was too much and declined. I was told that I owed them $250. I told the guy that I thought $250 was too much since he really didn't do anything other than open the septic tank. He said $250 was their charge for the first hour just for coming. And that $250 was their after hours rate. I complained and told the guy that I wasn't told that $250 was an after hour rate and had I known, I would have scheduled the work during the day when someone was home. I also wasn't told that $250 was an hourly rate. I am just thankful it didn't take the guy 2 hours to open the septic tank. I was furious and left a message with the answering service for someone to call me back. I wrote a check for $230 (luckily I had a $20 coupon) so the guy could leave. Noone called me back (even the next day). I called Roto Rooter the same night and this time asked how much they would charge if I decided not to get the job done. Roto Rooter said the estimate is free and they will only charge me if I decide to go ahead with it. The guy came the same night. Quoted me a price of $1012 plus tax with one year warranty. He was done in two hours. Job completed! Saved almost $700! I would never go back to Public Sewer! and I'm also warning my friends. They claim they have low, low prices. $1,695 is an outrageous price even when I asked what kind of part they were putting in, the guy couldn't tell me. Buyers beware!!
