The company (Kristopher Sealcoating) seal-coated (applied driveway sealer to) our largish (100 feet long, 4 cars wide at the end) driveway and did a lot more work than I did 3 years earlier on my own: Blew off the leaves Applied black filler goop to largish cracks (I think there's a more technical term for it) Heat sealed with a propane torch the smaller cracks Hand-rolled driveway sealer along the edges of the driveway Sprayed sealer onto the main part of the driveway with a wand that must have had 3-4 nozzles. This was real quick, maybe an hour for this part. I did it myself 3 years ago and spent two days doing the work, ruined my pants, shirt, shoes, etcetera. I also used twice as much sealer as the worst-case scenario called for the side of the buckets. And I didn't do anywhere nearly as good a job filling in the cracks. I'm pretty handy at home repairs but this is one job I'll never do again. Based on what the materials cost me from Lowe's or Home Depot in 2011, I think the job cost me about $300 more (for a monster driveway) than doing it myself if my labor over 2 days had zero value. This is for a 2300-sq ft driveway (equal to a double width driveway almost 100 feet long). I made contact at the start of the week, we talked by phone, I got an estimate on Friday, and because Saturday was going to be 70 degrees and sunny, lucked into getting it done next day. As promised, it was dry 24 hours later, and to be safe we waited two days. The company seemed about as professional as could be. Their trucks say they've been in business since 1986. Our neighbor used them over the summer and recommended Kristopher to us. The owner (Tom Hamway I believe his name is) seemed pretty knowledgeable about which density asphalt spray to use based on the age and wear on our driveway. They weren't perfect. I found one piece of overspray, about the size of my little thumbnail, on the garage door. That reminds me of when movers moved our entire house and broke one gas station-giveaway soda glass. That'll take about 5 minutes to fix. Otherwise, fantastic job. Whatever Angie's List's highest recommendation is, these guys deserve it.
