Mr. McGarry responded to request promptly and made a visit to check job and provide a preliminary quote. We had also requested installation of a new lighting fixture in our master bedroom closet, however he recommended an alternative that solved our issue and a new light fixture was not needed. He was professional, punctual, courteous and very conscious to keep a neat and clean work area. The final work came in under budget and exceeded all our expectations. I would highly recommend Mr. McGarry and certainly plan to use his business if and when the need arises again.

Greg did a great job. He had to come by several times throughout the process as we updated our kitchen and then when we needed the electrical service updated. He was thorough and patient and helped us with each step of the process. We are very pleased with his work.

Greg was great, showed up and worked with me to correct some electric issues in my 1890's farmhouse. Set up a new transfer switch for my generator and did great work for me. He is friendly and responsive and a pleasure to work with.

Greg did a wonderful job was knowledgeable, on time, and very helpful. He was called after the first electrician I hired came in and did the service upgrade and never showed up to finish the rest of the work and Greg really saved me with keeping my schedule from slipping too much. I was so impressed with him I plan on hiring him again to install a generator transfer switch soon.

Wow I wrote this company a message and got a response saying I'd get a call back later on. I got a call around 6:15 am and a voicemail . The voicemail was some guy calling me a f***** c*** and stupid b****. I've never met anyone from this company in my life and have no idea why anyone would leave me a voicemail like this. I'd never use them. So unprofessional.

The skinny: Greg from Powerplus is an absolute professional. If you're looking for an electrician who does quality work, is exceptionally thorough, and charges reasonable rates, look no further. Here's my long-winded story with all the gory details: With the power outages we've had in my area the past couple of years I wanted to make sure this year I was ready for future emergencies. Standby generators and other such solutions were way out of my budget so I opted to go with the portable generator + Interlock solution. This would provide the greatest amount of flexibility at an acceptable cost (as opposed to manual transfer switches, etc.). So I found a couple of electricians via word of mouth and from local online forums (this is before I joined Angie's list, see more on that below), and got some estimates. I heard roughly the same details from each of the 3 electricians I talked to: - This would be a straight forward job, estimates roughly the same - The only gotcha is that my town is extremely anal about inspections (2 of the 3 who have done work in my town said this, including Greg. The 3rd usually does work outside my town and he didn't remark on the permit process, but said my job should be no problem, based on permit work he's done elsewhere in NJ). What set Greg apart were the following: - Very responsive. You can tell he's busy, but he's never too busy to answer your call or answer your e-mail. I had a lot of questions along the way and I was always appreciative of how patient Greg was throughout the process. - Foresaw Potential Issues - Though the general sentiment was that my job would not have any issues with the town, Greg did notice that my existing panel was overloaded (existing homeowner had installed tandem breakers in my main which should not have been allowed). He remarked that usually town inspectors don't make you redo existing work as they inspect the new scope of work. However, he was the only one of the 3 that made the effort to contact my town's inspector to check. And lo and behold, my town, true to their reputation responded that they would fail the new work (for the interlock) because of my existing overloaded panel. Greg came up with alternatives and continued to think through what the potential pitfalls were. If I had gone with anyone else, they would have done the work, failed inspection, and then we would have been at the point to consider alternatives. Greg was the only one that helped me figure out the issues ahead of time. I'm a "no surprises" kind of guy, so that was very important to me. - Leveraged Technology - One of the other things that distinguished Greg from others was he was the only one with a Facebook page (Angie's list doesn't like web links, but just search for "Power Plus Electric" on Facebook) What is nice is you can see some of the work he's done recently (obviously you can do that with Angie's List as well) but it was nice to see pics of his work. All very clean cut and nice. He also was the only electrician I contacted willing to scope out the work based on pictures. Part of that is that he's about an hour away from me so it wasn't the most convenient for him to come out to my place. But, I mean, it is 2014, you'd think more contractors would be able to use technology to their advantage and save everybody (both themselves and the homeowner) time. To be clear, Greg did come in person to finalize some things and confirm what he saw in the pics I sent him, but it just makes a whole lot more sense to me for an initial estimate to be done via pictures. I wish more contractors would do that. - Saw the Job Through (start to finish) - I never had to bug Greg on status or what was going on. He was usually the one to ping me and keep me up to speed on what was going on. That's a breath of fresh air compared to all of the other contractors I've ever dealt with. So what happened: - Greg did an awesome job, the subpanel looked great, all the wiring was clean cut. He took the time to explain everything as we tested the setup (generator, interlock). I was happy. - We went to inspection, and my town failed it due to some their interpretation of "working clearance." Note this had NOTHING to do with Greg's work and I am convinced that my town is just difficult to work with (this was confirmed later, by the way, as I spoke to more people) - We were stuck between a rock and a hard place at this point. But credit Greg. Long story short, he helped me persevere and we found a solution to all of it. Honestly, as I've stated above, I think my town is the exception and inspectors elsewhere would not have failed my job. I would never advise anyone to do electrical work without a permit, but in my case it was an extreme hassle. - It's hard to say what would have happened if I had chosen someone else. But I do think any lesser electrician would have bailed on me as this literally took months to sort out. Following the work completion, I only owed Greg a couple of hundred dollars with the rest due on passed inspection. I could have easily seen other contractors say "$200 bucks isn't worth the trouble, let the homeowner find another solution." Not Greg, he saw it through to the end. He's a true professional. Bottom line: For what it's worth, I joined Angie's List just so I can leave this review for Greg. I'm a stingy cheapskate that doesn't like to pay anything I don't have to, so that should say something (I know Angie's list accepts reviews even if you're not a member, but I wanted to make sure this review looked right and I found a coupon code so I just did it). To be completely honest, given the experience it took to get a permit in my town, I'm hesitant to ever do any electrical work in my home again. But, if I do, I will definitely go with Greg.

Greg is very professional. He installed interlock for my basement. Answered a lot of questions, on time, clean, tested the system. He did a wonderful job. We are very satisfied.

Greg was on time and very professional. He was also very helpful with his suggestions concerning the electrical for the kitchen remodel. I went out for 3 quotes and his quote was competitive but I have decided to go with another electrician. There quote was a little less but they have worked with the Kitchen GC I hired to do all the other work in the kitchen so that was a big factor in my decision since there was not much a price difference.

Greg has been fantastic to work with. He is extremely responsive, professional, and a hard worker. The quality of his work was excellent as well. Not only did he perform the intended tasks (generator install & fan installations), but went out of his way to help fix some manufacturer defects. Greg was great from the very beginning. Very professional and responsive. He showed up when he send he would, took care of the permit paperwork, was very polite and explained everything completely. When the job was done, he tested everything and showed me how everything worked which I appreciated greatly. I would use Greg in the future for any of my projects.

In the last two months Greg completed two jobs for me: 1) Address issues found by a home inspector in a townhome I was selling. 2) Connect a portable backup generator to the electrical system in my new home. In both cases Greg proved to be a no-nonsense professional. He responded quickly to my e-mails and phone calls in a simple and concise manner. I am far from knowing anything about electrical systems, but he was able to explain to me what I needed to know. For both jobs he worked with me on day and time that would work for me and was very prompt to arrive. I always shop around before hiring someone, and his prices are very competitive (just remember that your price for generator install or any other work will vary based on your existing setup and what do you want to do). Since many are looking to install a backup generator these days, I think it is worthwhile to provide a few additional details on that job. Greg has done a good number these installs and is an expert in them. He was very helpful in suggesting what hardware to use, but did not push any specific brand/model (I did go with what he recommended instead of what I had in mind originally and glad I did). He clearly outlined what will pass inspection, what will not; what is safe to use, what is not; what is cost effective and what is not. Once on the location, he worked with me to pick what I needed to be powered in an emergency and did it in a smart way where as many as possible lights/outlets would be powered. He balanced the load effectively, which was apparent when we tested the backup power with my portable generator. The completed install looks very neat and professional. I recommend Greg highly.

As the reviews say Greg was professional, always on time, and extremely quick to respond to any questions. I found this all to be true. He came out to both houses and quickly assessed what needed to be done. He explained exactly what the work would entail. Within a few hours he emailed me a quote which i found to be extremely reasonable for the work. At that point everything was a go. Greg quickly submitted the paperwork for the permits. When they were approved and ready we scheduled the work. Everything went great and easily passed inspection. I would highly recommend Greg and actually already have. He was a great find!

Greg was one of the most puctual and professional contractors I have ever worked with, When the generator arrived, it was obvious that there was an oil spill inside the motor and muffler that occured during the delivery process. Greg painstakingly cleaned the motor, muffler, purchased a new oil filter and replaced all of the oil at his expense. When he hooked it up again, it worked like a charm. My house is now protected. (may I never need it!)

Greg is a pleasure to deal with. He returns call/emails very promptly. Quickly provided an estimate and explained what he would do. He arrived early on the agreed day, cleaned up after completing the work, showed us how to put oil and gas in and then run the generator. Made sure all the circuits we wanted were wired to the switch and marked accordingly on it. Tthat evening we received an email with step by step instructions for turning on and turning off the generator when emergency power is needed. We couldn't have asked for more.

Called Power Plus Electric to schedule an appointment to discuss installation of the electrical service to my new above ground pool. Greg came out to my residence and was on time and explained in details about the installation requirements to meet township code. The price was very reasonable compare to other quotes that I received which were outrages. I accepted his offer and he submitted all paperwork for the permit to the township. Of course it took my township almost 3 weeks just to approve it. But once it was approved, Greg was here July 5th installing the new service outlets, grounding wire to the pool and pump and the time clock for the filter. The work was completed that day and in my opinion it was very professionally well done. When the inspector came by he was also impressed with the work and approved the installation within a minute. I will definitely be using Power Plus Electric again to install my portable Generator for my house.

After the 8 day power outage after Sandy, we decided to get a portable genarator before this year's hurricane season starts. We searched on the Angie's list and tried with several electrician with email inquiries. Greg responed to us very qucik and the price he quoted is fair. He explained the details to us during the site vist. The installation process was smooth, after its done. We started the generator and hooked up it with the inlet, and it powered up the whole house. Greg also took care of the permit applications. Overall, Greg did a very good job, we will recommend him to our friends.

After hurricance Sandy, I decided to get a portable generator. I knew that I should get a transfer switch, and called Greg of Power Plus Electric for an estimate. Greg came to my house promptly to see what was needed and made a recommendation which made sense. I was immediately impressed with Greg and his complete understanding of what was the best for my purposes. Greg furnished me with an estimate that day and I was happy with cost. I signed the estimate and Greg immediately ordered the parts. The job was completed promptly and I am extremely happy with the work.

I called them after the storm Sandy, and they called right back. They came out immediately, and did the work. I would highly recommend them. Their price is very, very reasonable. The service they provided was excellent.

After Sandy we decided to have a manual transfer switch installed for our portable generator. Found Greg on Angies list and decided to give him a call. Greg was awesome! I had a bunch of questions about the type of switch to get, where to install the inlet, and other misc questions. Greg was constantly calling/emailing back with answers. I've never met a contractor who was so quick to respond back. The installation went flawless. I'm very particular about how things look and Greg's work was incredibly neat and professional. He should me how to use the new system by starting the generator as a test just to make sure everything worked properly. We used Power Plus Electric (Greg McGarry) this spring after buying our home in South Orange. We obtained several quotes for this work, but I had the best comfort level with Greg, and he was very competitive on price. I wasn't disappointed. He obtained the permits for us, and the work was scheduled relatively painlessly. While a job like this takes a little time and multiple visits, the work was completed essentially when he said it would be, and no issues or complaints whatsoever about the quality of the work. Based upon a recommendation from our inspector, I had to negotiate with him just a little to seal the hole around the conduit for the new service with masonry rather than foam, but he did agree to the better solution at no additional cost. Overall, I was very pleased with the work, service and the cost. Whenever we need additional electrical work done in the future, I'll call Greg without hesitation.
