KB Electric has won "Best Electrician" 3 years in a row from Suburban Essex Magazine due to our dedication and attention to detail for each customer we handle. KB Electric tackles big jobs, like generators and making homes safer by replacing knob and tube wiring with new, updated electricity. We also add hardwired smoke and carbon dioxide detectors. No job is too small, such as putting up new lighting fixtures, programmable thermostats, fixing doorbells and adding ceiling fans. We are modernizing homes by wall mounting TV's and putting recessed lighting in the ceilings. Not only that, KB ELECTRIC also can put in outside lights either in the yard or on the outside of the home to provide lighting once it is dark out.
They were good little expensive very cooperative they do quality work very prompt and work quickly easy to deal with knowledgeable.

Everything went extremely well as the team was professional, tidy, and responsive to my inquiries during the process. Special credit goes to Egan who led the team then returned on a separate date to perform additional work. His expertise made us feel at ease and the quality of his work is top notch. KB Electric is my go to electrician!
Description of Work: We needed to add lights to the ceiling in several bedrooms as our house was built in the 1920s. We also added new LED light fixtures in our kitchen. We had to replace the ceiling light fixture in the garage and security light outside of our house.

The project went very smoothly. The guys showed up on time, were very neat, did minimal damage to the plaster walls, patched up the spots that needed it, and gave us some good advice on how to hide TV wires, etc. The price was exactly as quoted. I would definitely use them again, and would recommend them to others.

Over price by about 2.5 times what it should be. Workers charged by the hour, and included their lunch break in the bill. Did a very poor job of patching hole in the ceiling and cleaning up, which they charged me time for. The outlet does work.
Description of Work: The company charged me over $600 to install a single electrical outlet on the ceiling. My parents were home that day, and they forgot to ask for the estimate beforehand. And these guys apparently charged by the minute, including their lunch break, which they took at the very beginning of the job. They did an extremely poor job of patching a hole in the ceiling that they made. At this price, I shouldn't have to hire someone else to come and fix that mess. Rip off alert!

These guys were ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. They came to my house to do a routine panel upgrade. I like to understand the nature of the job and what's going to be done to my house (drilling holes, etc) before a contractor does it. When I asked the electrician what was involved, he tersely replied, "You don't trust me to know how to do my job?" Well, turns out I shouldn't have. They never sealed up the hole they drilled into the side of the house leading into basement. The improperly grounded the main power line. WE FAILED TOWN INSPECTION THREE TIMES! They just couldn't get it right. The ground wire still sticks out of the ground. After we were more than six months into the job, they finally came over to label the panel. It looks like a third grader wrote it out. After making payment in full, I called the owner to tell him of my disappointment. While he acknowledged that the job was done poorly, he said that he hadn't been as close to the business recently because he was building his own house! I've never had a contractor actually admit that he put his own interests ahead of his customer's. There are a lot of guys who can run wire. It's a commodity experience. What you are paying for is the customer service and attention to detail. These guys will give you neither. STAY AWAY.

All of the knob and tube wiring in our new house needed to be replaced and inspected before we could move in. Working against a very tight deadline, KB threw four electricians on the job. It was all done ahead of schedule. We've since called them again when the power went out in most of our house. KB sent over an electrician within a couple of hours and restored power the same day. Given the service that they've provided, they have a customer for life.

Perfectly. It was very simple to schedule days for them to come out (we even had to reschedule one day and they were very understanding). They arrived on time and were very professional. They were courteous, did not make a mess, and kept us informed about the work that was going on. They labeled all of the circuit breakers. There were no surprises with the pricing and everyone in the office is very friendly and helpful. We were surprised it went so smoothly, given that we moved into an older house that needs a LOT of TLC. It's difficult to find an electrician you can trust, but my husband and I feel like we found one in KB Electric! We will definitely be using them in the future when we do our addition and for any other electrical work that may come up. Their pricing was also much more reasonable than other electricians who gave us estimates - as much as a difference of $40 per outlet! We worked with Richie and highly recommend him. Great experience overall.

KB's electricians were great. Showed up on time, and were courteous, friendly and detailed. They were able to install the ceiling fixture in our living room with minimal holes, and did a great job. The upstairs rooms were easier since they could use the attic space. Overall the work was minimally invasive and done very well. They did a fantastic job, and cleaned up thoroughly. There was a minor issue with having the wrong parts, but they remedied that quickly. It took them about a day to complete the job. We're fully satisfied and would definitely call on them again in the future.

We signed the contract with KB Electric in October of 2011 and fired them - paid the bill, anyway - April 2012. I did not like any of them. They scratched our floor. They did not clean up after themselves. They destroyed everything in our house. We put a new washing machine in so we needed a new plug: they put it in upside down. We had a new doorbell, and after asking us where we wanted it they did it themselves in the wrong place. They broke the doorbell. When they took the old doorbell button they did not complete the work, they left a dangerous wire outside. The master bedroom bathroom, they put the lights in crooked. The kitchen pendant light, they had to ask the handyman how to install it. He's not an electrician but they didn't know how to do it. One man was wearing Ugg shoes working on the ladder. I put the garbage disposal, the brand new one, it didn't have any milling. We didn't know if it worked or not - and he put a spoon in it. They did not finish the work in the basement. There is a plug in the island, if I want to charge my cellphone below 50 it pops out and I cannot charge it. For the inspection, it did not pass the second time and they were really cheap and put the line outside. They are supposed to come in and fix it, which they didn't. I complained that they don't clean afterwards, so one of the guys came and used the toilet water to mop our kitchen floor. They didn't know how to put the lights on our cabinet, they had to ask our handyman to do it. They put the three hallway lights in with only one switch. So you have to turn on the lights on three floors, which is ridiculous. We had to hire someone else to fix the problem. Outside lights, they did the same thing. The inside and outside lights have the same one switch. The owner I underestimated, and I'm going to take the workers before I finish it. I saw the same comment on another review for this company: the exact same words. He never came and apologized why someone who doesn't know electricity came to our house to fix it. He never came and explained to me any of it. I'm still waiting. The master bedroom towel warmer, they put the switch in an unusual place instead of at the top or the bottom. If there was a grade below F I would give it. We still have to put up the chandelier but I fired them because they were going to make it worse. I want the owner to listen to my complaints. I want him to come over. I know he can send his comments and I want to see them. I could not believe they are "The best of Essex County"! I fired the first man who came and a new guy came, but he did the same thing. We were renovating a house and we hired a contractor. He hired KB Electric. I complained to the contractor, who said we'd already paid for the work and we might as well let them finish it. I do not want to have anything more to do with them. I really want to know what the hell went wrong with my house and where is their honor.

We are so sorry to hear that you were not satisfied. We agree that it sounds like you did not have a good experience. It seems you would like some answers, so we wanted to go over your review to address your points. For the washing machine plug, we agree, it should have not been installed upside down and is a quick fix, if we had been told. For the doorbell it sounds there was lack of communication on both sides. The hall lights and inside/outside lights would have been installed with any switches according to the plan. We are given blueprint plans and follow those. As for the switch with the towel warmer- that would be customer preference. I am not sure what happened with the garbage disposal. We would have only done an electrical hook up for it and all you have to do to test it is flip the switch. I don’t know that anyone would put a spoon in it. It IS frustrating that we did not pass the inspection the first time. Sometimes the inspectors have certain items that they want a certain way. We correct any issues immediately and have the inspector come back out. Underestimating does happen. We give the best estimate that we can, but sometimes upon opening the walls or the floors things need to be done differently. Also, on larger projects the homeowner or contractor can sometimes change their mind during the project and this can change the scope of the work. We strive to work with the contractor and homeowner to make sure that projects are completed the way they should be. The office manager was at the house numerous times to speak with the homeowners and even helped to clean the floors. She would have never used toilet water and the fact that the homeowner suggests such a thing is disappointing. KB Electric would have corrected anything the customer was not satisfied with given the chance. KB Electric is proud to have been voted #1 Electrician in the Best of Essex and we want ALL of our customers to have a positive experience.

We bought a home that the previous owner was supposed to have removed all existing knob and tube prior to close. Well, they didn't. I called KB to have them come give me a quote. Key takes-away: (1) When you call you actually get a receptionist, as opposed to some dude's voicemail. (2) They showed up to give the quote right on time. In assessing the job, the tech opened up every single outlet, switch, and light to inspect. Pretty thorough... They weren't the cheapest, but I went with them because they gave me the most comfort that they were experts with knob and tube. They sent a dedicated crew to do the work with Nick running the show. When they got into the job, it turned out that there were WAY more knob and tube points than they previously thought there were. Apparently, the guy that quoted made a mistake. A big one actually... Keith (owner) came by to assess. Eventhough the job was ultimately TWICE as big as they originally thought, Keith still honored their quote. The original quote was already tough to swallow. So, I really appreciated how Keith honored the quote. He didn't even try to argue it. He just did the right thing. He's a real stand up guy. To remove it all, they had to open up parts of a lot of walls, but they didn't just hammer holes. They pretty much made small incisions in the wall. In my tenant unit, they took care not to disturb my tenants and clean up after themselves. The job took about a week and change of non-stop work. They handled the permits and inspections and followed through to the town's final sign off. While it was messy, they made best efforts to tidy up after each day. However, when carving a ton of holes in plaster walls, one has to expect a bit of a mess. They can't be expected to clean a house everyday after working. I have to say that I'm glad that I wasn't on Angie's List when I hired them. Had I read some of the reviews, I probably wouldn't have hired them. Glad I went with my gut. I didn't get any of the negative stuff I've read here. When it comes to extensive rewiring and knob and tube, these guys are absolute pros. Nick in particular was great. He managed the crew well, was well versed, and took the time to answer all of my MANY questions without an attitude.
Description of Work: Replaced all knob and tube in a 4800 sq ft, 2-family home. This effectively required rewiring pretty much the whole thing.

A terrible landlord I had a while ago hired these "electricians" to do some electrical work at the building I lived at. They were the most incompetent, ill-mannered and sexist individuals I have ever met. They used our building to get certified (which is scary) and one even showed up drunk one night to fix the outage...!! Can you imagine, alcohol playing with electrical wires?? How irresponsible can one be?!! After they started the re-wiring, we noticed multiple problems started to occur through out the project one major issue being that the power would be out when we would get home from work 4 to 5 times a week, and if you confronted them, suspiciousl enough, it would go out even more, leaving our pets in the dark, our food to spoil, etc. They messed up the electrical system so bad, and they didn't know what they were doing. What's worse is the owner, Keith Ballentine, had to come over and deal with the outages and he "wasn't feeling well" one night so he decided it was alright to scream at me, yell at me and threaten me on my stoop of my apartment leaving me to fear for my safety. He was no longer allowed at the unit after that. No one should be treated that way, especially an older, heavy set man towards a single, petite female. Stay away from this company!! They are bad news and will treat you like garbage because they think they have been in Montclair long enough to get away with it, but they are sadly mistaken.
Description of Work: They were hired by a very cheap, dishonest and sketchy landlord to re-wire a very old apartment/house in Montclair. They actually put all the wiring on the exterior of the walls and completely ruined the esthetics of the units, which, hard to believe after what they've done to the place, was nice at one time.

KB Electric was contracted by the landlord to do work in the building. Part of this work involved accessing the member’s apartment to run new and replace old wiring. For the member to think that we would sabotage wiring and risk the safety of our workers and our customers is an accusation made without warrant or proof. KB Electric employes women in the office and after the accusations of sexist treatment by the member, KB Electric had a woman present every time we needed access to the member’s apartment to ensure that there was no ill treatment by either party. The member made it very difficult to gain access to the apartment and tried to delay the work at every occasion. The member seemed to be aggravated from the beginning due to the fact that the landlord would now be putting the electric bill in the name of the tenant. She seemed to take this out on our workers and the member also took out her grievances on the landlord by writing poor reviews for him also. We regret that the tenant was not happy about having work done, but the building needed to be made safe and the landlord and KB Electric worked to make this happen. KB Electric and Keith Ballentine have been certified and in business for 20 years and in no way used the member’s apartment or this job for certification. KB Electric was recently awarded the Best of Essex 2012 award by Suburban Essex as one of the top electric companies. We continue to do work for the landlord. Customer satisfaction is our priority and we made every effort to work with this member to finish the job smoothly.

Crew was only experienced in new construction, they didn't cover any floors or clear up any mess after cutting holes in walls. They left food everywhere and cigarette butts over the property.Worst still, we had another electrician review their work a year later and they had taken many unsafe short cuts. They may have changed in 5 years, but buyer beware.

KB Electric is sorry to hear that the customer was not completely satisfied with our work. If the member had come to us with issues at the time of the work (August 2007) we would have done whatever we could have to make sure they were completely satisfied. Our workers do their best to make sure that the property is in the same condition, if not better, when we leave as when we arrive. The member stated that the job was for knob and tube and that another electrician reviewed the work and stated that shortcuts had been taken makes no sense. Knob and tube jobs require permits from the town. After the work is completed an Inspector from the town must come out and make sure that everything is done properly and within code. If any shortcuts had been taken they would have been uncovered at the time by the inspector. Not a year later by another electrician. KB Electric does new and old residential homes and commercial business and takes pride in all of the work we do. We make every effort to do our work with minimal disruption to the customer. KB Electric has been in business for 20 years and was recently awarded the Best of Essex 2012 award by Best of Suburban Essex as one of the top electric companies. Customer satisfaction is our priority and had the customer contacted us 5 years ago at the time of the service any issues that could have possibly come up would have been taken care of promptly at that point.

I used K B for emergency repair work after the freak snow storm we had on 10/29/11. They responded immediately and had all the work done within 48 hrs. This is the second time I've worked with them. The first time they replaced our outdated electrical panel. Their pricing was competitive but not the least expensive of the quotes I received. I think their work and attentiveness was worth the slight additional cost over the cheaper quotes.
