BROOKSIDE GARDEN CTR

We have had a dead bush in our fron yard for months that we wanted to replace so rather than head to home depot/lowes we decided to go to a nursery to get their recommendations about what would thrive in our front yard. We also wanted help choosing flowers for our two windowboxes. The nursery was surprisingly empty for a sunny Saturday but even then we had trouble getting someone to take note of us. Two people were moving plants around and neither could tell us what species plants were or what would be best for our yard conditions. The woman at the counter suggested she call her boss to offer us recommendations. I expect at least one knowledgeable person to be available in a nursery on a Saturday in spring. We ended up making our own selections with the help of google. I will say the prices seemed reasonable and the plants/flowers were healthy. I would not recommend this nursery to anyone unless they know exactly what they are looking for and don't require advice.

Despite daily watering, the shrubs began to turn brown and we notified the O'Boyles and Brookside. Our calls were rarely returned. We hired an arborist to evaluate our hedges and the shrubs and he told us the shrubs were planted too deeply, which resulted in them dying. We reported this to the O'Boyles and Brookside and - after it took days and sometimes weeks to get a return phone call - we were told that someone came by to look at the shrubs when we were not home and concluded that we had not watered them. We told them what the arborist told us and asked that they honor the one year guarantee and replace the shrubs, but they refused and then stopped returning our calls altogether. We were good customers of Brookside and had used the O'Boyles for firewood in the past - we would have continued to be customers if they had made good on their guarantee. We think it is a shame that a local business, which we would rather frequent than a big box store, treats its customers so poorly and does not keep its promises - i.e., the one year guarantee. Essentially we lost over $600 on this. Be warned!
