Description of Work: This was the second time I've used them. They refinished wood floors and stairs last year. This year they did flooring for my kitchen. |Both times they did very good work and continued to check in after jobs were completed to make sure all was satisfactory.

I had an availability issue, so Raul and team made absolutely sure they would finish the entire job in two days instead of the suggested 2 OR 3 days. They sealed the rooms with plastic sheets and tape, so all the dust was localized to the areas being worked on. They also made sure to use my fan in the window, to blow air OUT of the house, so air from the rest of the house got sucked into those two rooms... further reducing any dust issues... of which there was none. They did an amazing job replacing missing pieces of flooring, repairing others, and making sure everything was nailed down correctly. After the repairs, they sanded everything, and have all the proper tools to sand the edges and underneath 300lb radiators. They were constantly vacuuming and cleaning. They matched the stain of the new flooring I had in the hallway very closely, and sealed using a very good low odor sealer. I will certainly call them back in to do the same on our ground floor when we are ready. Very pleased with the team, the owner, and the job they did, along with a very reasonable price.
Description of Work: Raul and team repaired, replaced missing pieces, fixed bad pieces, sanded, and refinished to a new stain color, all the 1920's parquet style flooring for two bedrooms on the second floor that had three closets in total, along with a stair landing.

In the end we decided to use another company even if that one was a higher bid because after I scheduled the work they informed me that I had to pay with a bank's check or if I used a credit card I had to pay the 2.5 bank's fee. For me, that was unacceptable & a terrible way to do business., so I cancelled.

Response from Rec Floors
Dear [member name removed], We are sad to see your negative review on Angie’s List even though we did not perform the work in your home. During our initial conversation I was clear in explaining the forms of payment we accept in order to offer our customers different options. I would have preferred that you addressed your concern prior to scheduling the work with us so that we could have come to an agreement. In good faith, we did not take a deposit and when you cancelled the day prior we lost work for those days we had scheduled with you and not another customer. We could include the credit card fee in our price but it wouldn’t be fair for those customers that decide to pay by check. The requirement for a bank certified check versus personal check is that unfortunately we have had past experiences with customers that hired us and after the work had been completed the checks were declined due to insufficient funds. With hardwood floors, once we perform the work if we don’t receive payment we can’t take back the labor and materials used and therefore we have incorporated this requirement. We hope that your floors came out beautiful so that you may enjoy them with your loved ones during the holiday season as there are many good hardwood flooring contractors in our area. If there is anything we can be of assistance in the near future such as our Deep Clean service or Guaranteed Recoat down the road, we would be more than happy to assist you.Best Regards,Ivette Ceballos

While the cost was above other estimates, the quality, professionalism, and responsiveness completely justified the cost. They were punctual and completely respectful of our property. In addition, they returned for a few touch ups.

We were thinking of sanding and refinishing hardwood floor. But we decided to do Bona Deep Cleaning instead. It was 1/3 cheaper and it was worth it. Raul was very professional. He even accommodated our last minute schedule change. We were very glad with the work done.

Description of Work: We just finished getting the wooden floors on the first floor of our over-century old Victorian sanded and refinished. Raul also restored some wood work that needed replacing. Out of all of the contractors that made estimates, he was the only one that was confident that he could restore the floor to its original splendor. He and his team did a wonderful job making sure that the wooden inlay details were revealed. Raul & Ivette were very professional, punctual, and maintained good communication throughout the entire process. They were also fairly priced, given the quality of materials they used and the craftsmanship of their work. They did such a great job, we wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Overall, my husband and I are satisfied with their services, and professionalism, and would hire them again in the future. I am glad I joined Angie's List, being that this is our first time to have major work done as condo unit owners. We had looked at 3 contractors, and in the end chose AAA Rec Floors because we felt comfortable and at ease with Raul, that he knew his trade, and theirs was the best priced, having also availed of their holiday promo.
Description of Work: Raul and another member of his team replaced our carpet with bamboo flooring as discussed in our initial meeting. The flooring provided was good quality, and they finished the job in 3 days as expected for a condo unit approximately 800 sq ft. Raul and his team were very professional, courteous, and prompt, and performed services as expected in the contract. They also disposed of materials/ garbage considerately. Not the most detail oriented contractor, but they do work with you to satisfy the customer, even after the job is done. We also paid the amount as stated in the contract.

Raul is very courteous, professional and easy to converse with on a business level. He can be very agreeable and will promise many things but in the end probably delivers 80 to 85 percent of what he is promising. Not a bad return, and the main parts of the project like the floor install were good. Team was skilled but needs a strict hand to watch over their work. We just had issues with details like the glue stains, stains on wall, insufficient coats of paint and old paint chips that weren't cleaned up. Also make sure his materials used are the ones specified. I found other cans from what I had picked and wasn't sure what happened. I think he is a good person as are the people in his company but I'm not sure that they always want to complete the tasks as I saw it. Make sure you walk through any thing promised and keep a list to check off. We were disappointed that things like a floor saddle weren't put in a doorway that we had asked for weren't completed. Main oversight, Raul was not on hand daily as he led me to believe during the sales pitch. There were a series of miscommunications and though Raul was very responsive and eventually we were satisfied with the work completed, it was also that we came to terms with what his company could actually finish. I was not prepared for color variances in samples, toxic fumes or not being approached to choose when there critical junctures in the installation. 1. Main points are to ask if he has other projects, where you are in his lineup of priorities. 2. Meet the people beforehand who are actually doing the work. Find out their daily tasks. (For example, if they are using toxic chemicals that day) 3. Clean up: how will they prepare and dispose of toxic chemicals. Supervise this as they are not very fastidious. 4. Ask to be checked in and be part of their plan. Some of your assumptions might be that their is a definite schedule of tasks and that you will be asked to weigh in at crucial junctures: they are diligently working but might not notice things that you would. 5. Direct the work.
Description of Work: We had AAA Rec Floors quote and complete 1. a BASEMENT linoleum floor installation with vinyl trim 2. STAIRS stripped and stained 3. PORCH and entry doorways with old paint, repainted

From the very beginning, Raul impressed us with professionalism and knowledgeability about his product. He was honest, courteous, and punctual, making him a contractor that we trusted. Although the price for his work was higher than other estimates, we can attest to the fact that he is worth it. His attention to detail, willingness to accommodate, and love for his craft is apparent. We have been in our home for one month now after his work, and EVERY person who has walked in our door has commented about the beautiful flooring! In addition, Raul included a floor cleaning kit and complementary touch up after our move in his price. His service is first class, and we would definitely recommend him.
Description of Work: Sanding down two stories of 50+ year old oak flooring. Removing the carpet runner on the stairs. Staining all flooring in a rich cherry hue, which required pre-treating the flooring and then applying two coats of stain. Then, semi-gloss finish was applied. All products used on the floors were Bona brand.

Overall I felt that Raul was very knowledgeable and if price was not a factor I would certainly have utilized the services of his company. Because of the price discrepency I decided to go with another flooring contractor.
Description of Work: Contacted Raul for an estimate on refinishing the hardwood floors for entire first floor of home. Raul was very professional and on-time for our consultation. He measured the area and left some color samples for us to consider while he worked-up the estimate. The following day I received the quote, which seemed unusually high. After gathering multiple other estimates I confirmed my initial suspicion that Raul's price was about 30% above those of other local companies.

I had selected three flooring contractors from Angie's list. I felt most comfortable with Raul from AAA Rec Flooring who gave me his thoughts as to this project. His estimate was a bit higher then the others and he came back to my home and sat down with me and we went over the differences in the estimates. He offered to do what the others suggested but felt that the moldings he recommended would make the room more elegant. He was right and the work that he did was superior! The new dining and living room floors made my stairway look like they needed renovations and he came back and refinished the stairs, replaced the spindles and stained them so that they blended perfectly with the new flooring. He also replaced some molding without extra cost. I would highly recommend his services.
Description of Work: Job one was replacing the living room and ding room floors with hardwood. Job two was refinishing the stairs from the first to second floor, replace spindles, and stain stairway. First job was $4500 and the second was $1800. He was punctual and the work was done to perfection.

I asked that he match the stairs to the banister using a golden oak stain. The golden oak ended up looking like walnut, which I thought looked horrible. He resanded the steps to removed the stain then tried a stain lighter than golden oak. It was still a little dark. He did not charge me to do this extra work. I plan on using him for another project.

I called AAA Rec Floors LLC a couple of days after Hurricane Irene damaged a floor and carpet. Raul returned my call the same day and made an appointment to met with my wife and I the next day. He called ahead of time and showed up as promised. That alone, gave me a good feeling. He surveyed the situation and showed us some sample flooring he brought based on the brief phone call we had. We selected a flooring and were told he could begin the project within about 10 days. That sounded reasonable to us because lots of people were having similar work to be done because of Irene. He showed up as scheduled and began the work of pulling up the old floor. It was then that he said he would recommend against what we had originally wanted (and had have him get from his supplier) because of the condition of the sub-floor. I was afraid this would move out the date we could expect to complete the job. However, he got the material switched to wooden flooring and the job was completed on the day scheduled. The crew was very professional, and Raul was there for most of the installation, making sure things went as they should. We are very pleased with the quality of the materials and workmanship. This was a pleasant experience, not something I can always say about contractors of any type performing services. Definitely would recommend to friends.
Description of Work: A new wood floor was installed after the damage to the wall to wall carpet floor due to Hurricane Irene. They removed the old rug, the under-padding and then cleaned and prepared the floor for new flooring. We were originally going to put in tile, but the owner, Raul, after surveying the old floor surface warned against it due the some sloping and uneven spots. We agreed.

I thought they were very good. They were on time. If we had any questions, they would answer all of the questions that we needed answers for. Their top quality is honesty. I thought they were pretty honest. I have already recommended them. They were honest in their prices and they were honest in everything that they did. We will use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: We used AAA Rec Floors LLC. We last used their services sometime in mid August. They were in my house for two to three weeks doing the work. They stripped and stained all the wood in the house. That included the first and the second floors, the windows and doors, the banisters and the floors.

Excellent -- I couldn't be happier with the result. Raul and his team are extremely professional and responsive -- he's always available via phone or text message to answer any question. He provided updates each morning and at the end of each day. Job was done very quickly -- took under three days for them to complete. His estimate was competitive in my opinion, and, best of all, the end result looks amazing.

This was the 1st time the floors had been re-finished since 1970 when my parents moved into the house. Overall, the work was very good and the floors look great. However, there are a few don'ts and negatives to report: 1. Finish the job before starting work on another project. Don't leave me hanging until you decide to return. 2. Be smart about moving furniture. The workers moved furniture in a haphazard way so that it was not accessible for use. The 1st day, the workers worked in 2 smaller bedrooms and moved the furniture there into the master bedroom. They stacked the beds on top of one another or with other pieces of furniture - I had no bed to sleep in! I slept on the living room sofa. In addition, the dressers containing my clothes were not accessible - they were either blocked by furniture or the side with the drawers were turned to the wall and blocked by the wall. I had to wear the same clothes for days and had to buy new underwear to wear! The 2nd day they worked in the living room and moved the sofa into the dining room, where it was stacked with other furniture on it. I had to sleep on a chaise in my cramped basement filled with the items that I had previously moved downstairs. When the workers didn't come on Saturday, and after I gave Raul the part-payment, I moved to a hotel for the weekend. My advice to future service recipients: make sure at least one bed is accessible, as well as clothes. 3. Per above, don't charge a separate fee for moving furniture, especially when it's made clear up-front that the furniture is required to be moved by you and you did not include it in your initial estimate. If you want to charge a fee for doing so, then put it in your initial estimate so it can be compared to other estimates obtained from others. Don't give me an estimate without including it and then try to slip that charge (or other charges) in at the end of the project. 4. Don't damage items you're handling. The workers inadvertently broke a metal hook hanging on the back of a door. A replacement hook cost $5 at Home Depot and Raul reimbursed me for it. However, the workers purposefully threw the damaged hook out of the master bedroom window onto the front lawn, where I found it. 5. If you don't have plans to work on a given day, like a Saturday, tell me when arranging the work schedule. Don't tell me that you're going to work on a Saturday, I plan accordingly, then you renege with an excuse. Be honest with me about your work schedule - it affects me too! 6. The extra charge for ripping-up the entrance/foyer. Raul wanted to charge $715 for the extra work. However, Raul included in the initial $2375 estimate the "normal" work that would have been done to the entrance/foyer (re-sanding, sealing and finishing) had the new work not been undertaken. I pointed out that the portion of the "normal" work attributable to the entrance-foyer needed to be backed-out - it was akin to a double -dip (i.e, billing me t
Description of Work: Re-finished hardwood floors on 1st (living and dining rooms) and 2nd (3 bedrooms) floors of residence, plus hallway, entrance/foyer, closets and stairs/risers. Re-sanded with DCS, secured loose boards with nails (to eliminate/reduce squeaks), trowel filled floors and coated with sealer and finish. The original estimate was $2375 (plus sales tax). In addition, as work progressed, the entrance/foyer floor had to be ripped-up due to termite infestation/rotted wood and beams underneath, and had to be replaced with new beams, plywood, hardwood floors and molding. Raul initially asked for $715 extra (plus sales tax) for this work, but we settled on $525 (plus sales tax). I first contacted Raul in late February 2010 and he emailed me a written estimate in early March. Unfortunately, my basement sustained water damage in the March 2010 rainstorms and I had to postpone the floors until the basement situation was resolved. When it was resolved, I contacted Raul in May and he scheduled my work to begin on Tuesday May 18, 2010 and continuing each day through Saturday May 22. A few days before the work was to begin, Raul called and explained that he was running behind on another job and instead would begin on Thursday May 20 and would work on Friday May 21, Saturday May 22, Monday May 24 and Tuesday May 25. Raul and his 2 men arrived at 2pm on Thursday afternoon May 20. The 2 men worked until 7pm that night. They also worked all day Friday. However, when Saturday came, Raul called early in the morning and told me that they would not be coming, giving me the old "my dog ate my homework" excuse - in this case, his truck broke down and was being fixed. That didn't stop Raul from coming to my house in his own car and asking for a part-payment of $1,300, even though his estimate didn't mention a part-payment. I gave Raul the payment because I was satisfied with the work done up to that point, including the ripping-up of the entrance/foyer and the replacement work that had been done the previous day. I would advise future service recipients to make sure they discuss with the provider at the beginning the payment terms and whether full payment is to be made only upon completion of the work or whether part-payment is to be made before the work is finished and in what amount. The workers returned on Monday May 24. There were only a few outstanding items left to be completed on Tuesday May 25 - securing a few loose boards, filling a couple of "gaps" between boards, moving the furniture back into place and disposing of the trash/rotted boards placed on my front lawn. Raul and his men only disposed of the garbage that day. They didn't even want to haul it away claiming that the town would pick it up as part of normal garbage collection. I told Raul that my township doesn't haul away renovation materials and they hadn't take his garbage bags set out the day before); I printed out the municipal ordinance for him and he agreed to dispose of t

REC was recommended to me in 2001 by a contractor. We had used someone from Newark and were disappointed. I used REC and was very very happy. They have since done two other homes ( Bloomfield and Caldwell ) for me. This has been the third time I have used them. They also installed and sanded floors in my mother's house in Passaic and a friend's home in Caldwell. They came in with a crew and started sanding. Raul the owner came and supervised the job the whole time. He took care of concerns WITHOUT any push back. He made sure we were happy. The floors that were installed matched so well that I forgot which floors were original and which ones were newly installed.
Description of Work: They sanded six rooms and installed new floors in the kitchen and bath. They also stained all the floors and they gave us a good variety of stains to choose from. The new floors matched the existing ones beautifully. I wasn't sure which finish I wanted so they put down one to see how I would like it and then they put down the final one. The rooms are large and their price was very fair.

Raul the owner is punctual!! He's not only the sales person but he does the work with his crew. Customer Service is his best asset. Since Raul doesn't supply the hardware, he took me to the place where he purchases the hardwood. The supply vendor educated me on the various types of hardwood. The major work was completed in 1 1/2 weeks. I had Raul and his crew come back to do some touch up work. Also, he went above and beyond to do additional work for free. I had water damage on my wall which was dried up, he had his staff member fixed the area with no additional cost. I would certainly recommend his work!

Excellent work and very trustworthy and honest. He even removed some more staples that was left over from the carpet being pulled without charging us extra for it. Very clean and dust free!
Description of Work: He installed the pre-engineered hardwood floors we had purchased at Lowe's.
