I had been having problems with water entering both my detached 2-car garage, and my house. Debenedetto Construction came in and advised me on the best way to address the problems, and then went forward with their plan on how to make my house and garage water tight. Everyone on the crew was extremely polite, and hard working. My garage is so dry now - the moldy/mildewy smell is nowhere to be found. Not only is the stucco located on the very bottom of two sides of my house completely dry, it also looks wonderful! The sump pumps were great too! (I didn't see them!) - I would highly recommend Debenedetto Construction.
Description of Work: Debenedetto Construction installed three sump pumps for me. They re-stuccoed a portion of my house, and poured a new concrete pad in my garage.

His estimate was worlds apart from other estimates I had gotten. He wanted to do crazy things compared to the other companies and estimates. He called and was late for the estimate as well.

I wish that these construction guys could live with us and redo my entire house :) Maybe if I hit the lottery. These guys were true professionals. They really have talent and the experience to be able to solve all kinds of problem with brick/stone. Our front steps, a landing, and front railings were falling apart. We were having 70 people at the house for my daughter's 1st birthday party and I wanted them replaced so that no one got hurt. I also wanted a railing placed in the back yard because there are a few steps down to a door without anything to hold on to and nothing to separate the steps from the yard, people could just fall in. After 3 estimates, A. Debenedetto had the best price and I just had this feeling that I wouldn't be sacrificing any quality for the price. They also promised to have the work done before my daughter's party, which was about 3 weeks away. They showed up on time and worked hard all day. The workers were kind and considerate. The work took 2 days. By the end of the 1st day, I knew I had made the right decision choosing this company. The steps looked beautiful. I have an older house (built in the 50's) and they no longer make the brick that the house was made of. They matched the new brick and stones almost perfectly to the existing brick. I was nervous when they said that the bricks would not match exactly but it is barely noticeable. Everyone has commented about how nice the stairs/landing look. I just wish I had the money for them to redo the whole front porch! Their work is honestly beautiful. I would absolutely use them again.
Description of Work: A Debenedetto Construction tore out and reconstructed a landing and a step outside of my home. They also fixed all of the front and back steps to make them sturdy enough to hold railings. They fixed the surrounding cracks in the sidewalk as well. Once that was finished, they sent a railing company to install 3 railings and a column. The railings were included in the price.

Great! We were flooding 2-3x a year from driveway into our downstairs living area. When it rained too hard too fast, our other pump could not keep up and would trip the breaker. This caused flooding into our laundry room, family room and utility/ furnace room. Antonio gave us the upgrade we desperately needed. We just had heavy rains last night and we kept dry! Thank you Antonio! The grass his men had to cut through to replace the discharge piping, was carefully cut out and replaced and never died!

When I spoke to the receptionist and asked to set up a time to get an estimate she seemed a bit put out that I asked if they also did fireplace repairs. She took down my information and then remarked that I lived "pretty far away." (I live 30 minutes from their location, and there is a major state highway practically leading to my door.) Three and a half weeks later and no one has ever called me back to schedule an estimate. I will not use this company.
Description of Work: I called A. Debenedetto to get a price quote on landscaping and fireplace repairs. All in all, I need a retaining wall built, paving stones laid under my deck and complete landscaping/re-sodding of my front yard, as well as potential upgrades to my fireplace and chimney - a fairly large, potentially pricey job!

Response from A Debenedetto Construction LLC
A. DeBenedetto Construction LLC wants first of all to apologize for the inconvenience. We had an accident with one of our workers that lost two fingers tips the day that you called the office. Mr. DeBenedetto in the middle of giving assistance to Cristino Pelcastre( the worker) lost your contact for that reason we could not call you. It is not in our costume to not call back our costumers.Again we apologize.

Earlier in the year Antonio had waterproofed our foundation, we had to wait for the ground to settle after all the digging and finally were able to complete the job. He gave us top priority since we had already agreed to complete at end of summer and came promptly as discussed. His guys worked clean and efficient, they leveled the surface after digging, prepped it with qp and sand dust for pavers and set an approximately 40ft length of pavers. the space that did not get pavered was covered in landscape fabric and covered by river rock to complete the look and make for a maintenance free area. the job site was cleaned up and left as though they were never there. The prices were always discussed up front and never went up or down from the agreed upon number, unless a request came to do more. He even added a small paver section using our old pavers, and releveled and redid a previous section of pavers which will be used for a storage platform. have no complaints and would use again.
Description of Work: Finished job started earlier in the year, had to wait until the ground settled after a waterproof job also completed by Antonio. adjusted pitch of path to backyard, laid pavers down, covered empty space with river rock to make a good drainage and low maintenance area

A.Debenedetto Construction LLC said that it wouldn't be worth doing the piping, he wanted to redo the whole back step so he gaveme a quote for that. I wouldn't say he was friendly, he got to the point where he was like, no this is not what you should do, you should do this and this is our price. It wasn't mean, but it wasn't hey how are you, but it was right to business, so it was good. He also asked if I checked to see if it drains well, so he just took the hose and put some water in it. He was going to call me in the morning to let me know when he would come, it would have been nice if he would have just set the time.He was professional. He also said I should do the whole basement.

To waterproof the basement of my 3000 square foot home I got estimates from several contractors, and they ranged in price $5,000 up to $16,000+. I went with Antonio because he seemed honest and clearly knew what he was doing, and his price was on the reasonable end of the spectrum. From the first meeting, he was a straight shooter who never gave the impression he was trying to offer more than was needed. He stuck to his quote, showed up on time, always answered his phone or any questions, and consulted with us whenever a decision needed to be made, right down to little details. Our basement was very cluttered and his guys moved everything into the center of the room, then covered it all for us (though you'll want to remove anything of personal importance or high value since these piles of stuff were arranged hastily). The job took two and a half days, though the pumps were installed and turned on at the end of day 2 (the extra half day was clean up and fine tuning). It's only been two months and we haven't had the kind of rain to truly test the system, but the basement has been dry since. If that changes I'll probably come back here to modify my review. If I don't you can assume it means I'm still dry. I absolutely recommend Antonio. He's a pleasure to work with.

They were fabulous. I was extraordinarily pleased. I've already recommended them to several people and I've got knocks on my door telling me that the driveway looks great and fantastic and if I could please the share the person who was responsible for them so they can call them. I've gotten three calls and one person left a note on my door and the other two people stop by. I get from my neighbors that when cars are passing, they seem to slow down in front of my house because they're looking at the driveway.

Mr. Debenedetto (Mr. D) and his crew were very professional, came on time and were very pleasant. Mr. D was by far the best contractor which came to give an estimate (which did not change later on) and most notably seemed to not only show that he knew how to do the job but envisioned the entire project paying attention to all the details. For example, when others simply said they could put up a wall for us for X$, Mr. D actually went beyond that to say (very thoroughly) how the wall should look, explaining (properly) how it would be built and taking into account how it would fit in with the rest of our property and other needs. He and his crew spent two full days replacing a short, but long, retaining wall. In doing so they also brought better fixtures for our gutter and lowered and buried it behind the new wall. The crew took great care in their work to make sure it was as straight as can be and level. Impressively, with all the heavy machinery and the blocks themselves, his crew worked swiftly and efficiently together so the project was not only done on time, but also done well. They also were kind enough to take away quite a bit of sand we had leftover from a previous project and they replaced a few old cinder blocks with new blocks in a very small retaining wall adjacent to the one they were building so now it matches nicely. Part of the job included replacing a few sections of our old/crumbling cement driveway, which they did. They took care to even out the new part of the driveway with the surrounding areas and it looks fantastic and is a great improvement. I never thought I would see that area come together, leveled out so nicely! (It was very badly crumbled). Mr. D and his crew made our home improvement experience easy and painless. Though he charged more than others, I believe you get what you pay for and we would not hesitate to use his company again in the future.
Description of Work: In two days they replaced old/damaged cinder block retaining wall, replaced a few sections of cement driveway, hauled away leftover sand from previous project.

All went well. the job was done in 5 business days. There was a slight delay for the installation of the railings because of the heat wave, precluding painting of custom-built railings.

Installed blue stone for risers and around platform. Demolish walkway and pour new concrete base and applied blue stone. When I called Antonio De Benedetto he returned my call within 2 hours, made an appointment for an estimate, and showed up on time for the estimate. He was the only person who correctly diagnosed why my chimney was pulling away from the house, and he had a positive attitude about fixing the chimney. I wanted to maintain the same look of the chimney and for it and my hearths to be restored to their original look with the real granite stone. He was the only person who did not complain about restoring the chimney the way I wanted it. He always returned my phone calls promptly and politely. On the first day of the job, Antonio and his crew of 5 or 6 workers arrived on time. The first day, they took down the chimney and began the repair of the flu using concrete blocks. He covered all of the open areas left open overnight with tarps to prevent any rain from coming into the house. The same day my front doorstep was totally removed and reconstructed. The entire project took about 7 days. They even worked on Saturday which was fine with me. During any periods of rain, the crew would work on the hearth projects inside. Rebuilding the chimney had to be done a little at a time because the mortar had to dry on the lower layers before they could support more stones on top of them. The crew was always busy. They were professional, polite, clean, and respectful. They were all great workers and everyone was very skillful. The worksite was left tidy. I allowed the workers to work while I was not home and nothing was missing from my house. They put tarps on the carpet in the living room and on my basement carpets to protect them. I was impressed that all of the workers on my projects got along well and worked well together as a team. My new chimney, both hearths, the front doorstep, and the sidewalk are all awesome! I would definitely hire him again. When the workers were left at my house Antonio did not remain here with them but he would come occasionally and check on them. I allowed them to use the bathroom and provided ice water for them. When they left at the end of each day they would leave the work zone in a safe condition.
Description of Work: Anthonio De Benedetto and his crew took down my existing 3 story tall masonry granite chimney for a total of 17 feet where it was pulling away from the side of my house. He rebuilt the chimney using my original granite stones and additional matching stones, he rebuilt the chimney widening it for the lowest few feet. Inside the house, he rebuilt two hearths associated with the same chimney that were settling into the rooms and pulling away from the wall portion of the fireplaces and reinforced the floor under each hearth. He used new brown brick that matched the brickwork on the walls around the fireplace and my original marble cap and reinstalled my brass fireplace doors on my living room fireplace. On the basement fireplace, he reinforced the cement basement floor and rebuilt my granite hearth using the original stones and added a new granite cap for the hearth. He also replaced the original large granite stones that were pulling forward out of the wall to a flush position with the wall. He also tied my chimney into my house which apparently the original builder of the fireplace had neglected to do which was the cause of my chimney pulling away from the house. He also made my chimney 3 feet taller because the original chimney was noted not to meet the building code. Outside he removed my large front doorstep and constructed a new doorstep faced in red bricks with a limestone cap around the border and filling the center with cement. Then he removed and built a new sidewalk approximately 65 feet long from my front door to the driveway. He also repaired water damaged areas of the house where the chimney had pulled away.

For many years, each time there was a downpour, the town storm system would overflow in front of our house, washing down our driveway and taking away our yard. It was treacherous to walk in the yard because of tree roots that had been uncovered where the water had taken all the earth away. Upon consulting Angie's List, A. DEBENEDETTO Construction was shown to be one of the best companies in the area to deal with water/drainage problems. The weather was oppressively hot, but the 4 man crew worked relentlessly for 4 days to remove the many roots enabling installation of a paver block area that lead to a drainage tank. We are very happy with the result. Mr. DeBenedetto was knew his business and his crew worked efficiently, cleaned up thoroughly afterward and was very courteous. Thank you Angie's List. You've come through yet again. Thank you to Mr. DeBenedetto for living up to the ratings.

Owner Antonio DeBenedetto came to do an estimate within two days of my call. He made a plan that would fix a number of issues, from storm damage to bringing steps into compliance with code, and that would fit my budget. He had an extensive photo portfolio of his work and helped me choose materials that fit the style and construction of my 1920s Dutch Colonial house. The work was completed within the agreed timeframe and it looks great!

Antonio (owner) responded quickly after a request for an estimate was sent. First big plus in our minds....he showed up exactly when he said he would. After checking out all the 3 sets of steps and handrails (each set varying in condition), he explained what could be fixed, what needed replacement. He answered all our questions about materials, brick-pointing versus replacement, etc. We felt very comfortable in our conversation with Antonio and confident in the work as explained to us. We considered his estimate reasonable so we decided on A. Debenedetto Construction for the job. By the next evening, he called to ask if his crew could begin the job the next day (a Saturday) as weather predictions were finally good. He and his men arrived the next morning, again exactly when he said they would be arriving. His crew worked from the time they arrived, throughout the day, only stopping for a lunch break. They cleaned up as they worked. At the end of the day, masonry in progress was carefully covered in case of rain. On the next dry day, they returned and finished the masonry work. Again, everything was cleaned up and old materials removed. The railings were being made/installed by the railing man he uses and that happened about 2 few weeks later. Very nice. We are more than pleased with the finished work and with DeBenedetto Construction. The work was done beautifully. We most definitely would use Dibenedetto Construction again in the future!
Description of Work: Demo'd one set of steps, built risers to meet walkway elevation using matching new bricks. Installed new limestone treads on risers. On another set of steps, fixed broken bricks and pointed where missing cement. On another set of steps, removed and reset 3 limestone treads and pointed. Two new sets of aluminum railings installed. Took away all debris.

Called their phone number and left a message with the woman who answered the phone that I'd like someone to get in touch with me to get an estimate about several masonry type items- so not some small job. The woman I spoke with asked me several times to repeat information so, when I hadn't heard back within a day and based on the many A ratings this vendor has received here about promptness, I decided to go on the company's website and fill out a formal request for an estimate. I included info about me having called the day before about getting an estimate and that I thought there might have been some miscommunication and possibly the woman didn't get the information down correctly. Filled out their request form completely on line and been over a week and a half and never heard back from them. Not sure if I'm just the fluke or what- but if they are out of town or too busy to return my call, you would think that either the woman answering the phone would know that they weren't around- and if they were too busy to give me an estimate that a quick phone call to let me know that- like many other A listed vendors on Angie's list have done - would be the professional thing to do. Needless to say, I'm not waiting for them to call me back and have moved on to another A listed vendor on Angie's that got back to me within two hours of me leaving them a message.

They were prompt and the work was explained completely. The crew showed up and worked for two days. They cleaned up well. The job required access through a neighbor's property and he worked with them easily. The wall was severely cracked and needed to be repaired before two new coats of masonry could be put on. I am happy with the results and it looks good.

I joined Angie?s list right after Hurricane Sandy in October of 2012. I was luckier than most but the high winds took a toll on my roof and I was also in need of a mason. I found 2 highly rated masonry companies on Angie?s list that I was comfortable with and in the end we chose A. Debenedetto. Antonio the owner is a second-generation mason who is a true craftsman. The first mason wanted several thousand dollars more than Antonio but what really turned me off to the other guy was he asked for a payment for his estimate. He said ?didn?t the woman in the office tell you we charge for estimates?. I would never pay for an estimate and that fact alone almost single handedly lost the other guy the work even though in the end he did not charge for his estimate. Antonio on the other hand showed up, understood what I wanted and gave me a better price on the work. When I told him what the other guy wanted to do and charge he said the price was high and way more overbuilt than I needed for a residential installation. I hired A. Debenedetto on the spot and a $500 deposit in November, secured his services for the spring. I didn?t want to rush to have my band new stoop, driveway, and sidewalk subjected to a harsh NJ winter so we waited till the spring to have the work done. The brick stoop is a work of art and we could not be happier with how things turned out. Antonio was easy going and a pleasure to deal with. At no extra charge he even installed a new wooden mailbox post in the ground for me. The old post had rotted away and Antonio was only too happy to drop some cement in a fresh hole and install my post. He could have easily asked for another $75 - $100 to do this for us but as a smart business man who see?s the big picture he threw in the last minute request at no charge. The work came out great and I would recommend A. Debenedetto to anyone who asks.
Description of Work: New stoop, new driveway, replace several sections of cement sidewalk.
