Decathlon Construction

I used Joel Jacowitz of Decathlon Construction to build my home in 1998. He did a great job at that time. On site every day and payed attention to detail. Because of the prior positive experience with Decathlon I chose to use them again in 2013. This time around was not a positive experience. The quality of customer service that I came to expect with Decathlon has degraded significantly. We had and are having numerous problems with the home from the plumbing system to the electrical. My back yard floods out because it was not graded appropriately. Joel's Plumber has been to my home on several different occasions. He would leave with the problem unresolved. Now I know why. I resorted to hiring my own plumber to diagnose and fix the problems. I have a well and the water treatment system did not have a timer and the expansion tank is enough to pass code but not enough to keep my water treatment where it needs to be. This effects the pressure which effects the insta hot water system that was installed by Decathlon. Joel's explanation was that his system doesn't use timers. Its automatic. He stated he doesn't prefer to use any mechanics (the timer) because it can break. I had 2 other plumbers come to the house at different times to diagnose my problems. Both said the same thing. "The builder did the bare minimum to pass code inspection. If the problem was not corrected my appliances would suffer for it. The way the system was set up it would only treat my water for 3-4 weeks." On two different occasions we actually had muddy murky water coming out of every shower and faucet. Joel's fix for the problem was that I run my hose for 2 days straight. He was unable to answer why it was even happening in a brand new home. When I confronted Joel with what the plumbers told me he became angry and advised me to not call his cell phone anymore but leave a message on the office number. Keep in mind my year isn't up and I still have to submit my punch list. At this time I have no confidence in Joel to repair or address any issues involving the home. Decathlon construction will only do the bare minimum to pass code inspections. Do not expect Joel to go out of his way to make you happy. HE WILL DO ONLY THE BARE MINIMUM TO PASS CODE! My wife I and worked hard to save for this house. Its our home. We are not rich people. We believe A certain level of trust and expectation is expected from the builder during construction of a home. My wife and I feel like Joel from Decathlon completely violated that trust and gave us a product he knew wasn't up to snuff. Hind sight being 20/20 we saw the red flags but the prior positive experience made us blind to them. We will of course have to pay someone else to correct Joel's shortcomings. We will be using Angie's list for that!
