We needed the bathroom to be done on a tight schedule since my parents were coming to visit. Jim managed a difficult demolition (plaster and lath on a wire mesh from 1924) and he chiseled out a one inch cement frloor - no short cuts. The work went smoothly.
Description of Work: Jim completely gutted a bathroom, moved a closet, built a built in set of shelves and installed a new door. Jim installed wainscoting and marble tile floors. Jim also did a marble tile shower that turned out very well. The most outstanding feature of Jim's work was the finish carpentry - really high end. Jim accurately estimated the job, provided all receipts for purchased materials. The project came in under budget and exceeded our expectations.

We heard of Jim from one of my wife's colleagues at work. Jim came out to the house and carefully discussed the whole project with us, taking detailed measurements and writing notes in his notebook. Four days later we heard from Jim with a final price: $5,000 for labor and $2000 for supplies. He gave us a three week estimate on the time for the project. We were going to supply the tile and fixtures. Jim would be responsible for everything else. I asked Jim if he could start immediately since we had family coming to stay and he said that unfortunately he could not, since he was finishing another job. This kind of honesty is a hallmark of this contractor. He said that he would finish his other job and start the next week. Jim spent three days doing the demolition, being careful not to track dust and dirt through the house. It involved removing two doors, and about 2 inches of concrete from the old bathroom floor. The old tiles were set against the lath walls in a wire-mesh of cement and had to be removed with much effort. Jim brought a number of people to the house to help on the job and all were very polite, friendly and did excellent work. Our bathroom has marble floors, marble mosaic around the tub, wainscotting and a built in closet which Jim constructed himself and installed and trimmed - looks fantastic. Jim installed all the fixtures, the shower, the toilet, the basin etc. All gaps and nail heads were sealed and caulk was neatly applied in the right places. Jim prepped the drywall with spackle and primer and painted the trim, wainscoting and walls and ceiling. All construction debris was cleaned up and every speck of dust was vacuumed from the finished bathroom. Jim provided neatly organized receipts so that we knew the material money was spent correctly. We agreed with Jim that we would pay one third of the money up front, one third when the demolition and framing and drywall was done and one third at the end. This worked out well for Jim and for us. All in all Jim has proven to be a reliable, and honest contractor who takes great pride in his work. His work is top notch and we are very satisfied customers.
Description of Work: We had a 1924 downstairs bathroom and outside closet that needed to be demolished and remodeled. Jim handled everything from the demolition, the marble flooring, the tiling, the installation of fixtures, drywall, wainscoting and every other detail of the job.
