The project went well from start to finish. I called the office and Dianne was the admin who helped coordinate all the paper work, including obtaining the permit for the job. Jeff, the owner, was very professional and punctual. They showed up on time and complete the whole work in about 3 hours. They removed the tank with approximately 60 gallon of oil and sluggish from my basement and cleaned up the site after they left to make sure no oil spill or anything left. I would definitely use them for future work.

They gave me a good price (better than the other vender I got a quote from) and were willing to take a change. The other vender said I would need to remove another tree before they would do the job. They came at the time they said they would. They were good to work with and they did just what they said they would do. After they removed the tank, they left the area in good shape. They followed up with all of the paperwork to complete the project. I would certainly hire them again.

Excellent company-great customer service!! Diane in the office was very patient with our scheduling issues and Jeff came out in person to give us an estimate. We had to put off the removal several times and when we finally scheduled it, there was a big snowstorm moving through the area. Jeff and his crew still showed up on time and did the work. Very thorough, very tidy and very pleasant to work with. Also, their quote was $100 less than the other one we received!

This was a nightmare for my husband and I to find out that our old underground 1000 gallon oil tank that we monitored very closely was now showing signs of a possible leak. I reached out to my community and found out rather quickly that we needed to educated ourselves on the current laws in the state of NJ, find out who was reputable in the business of oil testing, removal of underground tanks, above the ground tank installation, and possible ground remediation. (Plus squelch the stories that kept on coming up of how insidious a leak can be and how disastrous it can be to a homeowner who had not hired a solid reputable company for all aspects of this potential job! Phew?.) I am so THANKFUL that I was given the name of Marksmen Enterprises, LLC. (Proguard approved) The first call I made was to Alan Wysmuller who is VP of project management. I had a flood of questions for him at that point and he gave me more than an hour of his time educating me on the process and really relieving so much of my apprehension. He has so much knowledge and experience that it immediately gave me confidence in the company. As I reached out further Marksmen was the name of the professional business that continued to come up as excellent. So this very unpleasant experience that we had to deal with was made the polar opposite starting with Alan Wysmuller, and followed by Diane at the office who was friendly, and prompt to schedule dates and the exchange of necessary paperwork to get the jobs done. The next professional from Marksmen was Jeff Badcock who was the one who installed our Roth oil tank in the basement. He really listened to us as homeowners when he had to install the flexible oil feed pipe from the tank to our ancient furnace. He had to go more of unique way because of our furnace and then installed the tiger loop in the best location. Jeff, with his friendly charm, and much experience, did the install quickly and neatly. Next, the underground oil tank site was potentially complicated by a curve of a brand new driveway, rock garden, cement steps, old apple tree, and a possible side deck. Both Marksmen teams, one for the removal of the tank, and the next team for the excavation of the contaminated soil, were VERY careful and aware of the site and took every precaution with their equipment(Laying planks on the driveway, moving the rocks and saving them for us in a pile, watching the branches of the tree and cutting them carefully) to do the least damage to all structures mentioned. Both teams came promptly and worked until the job was done in weather that was near zero! Again, Alan Wysmuller was on site and kept us informed about the process and what they were finding in terms of the depth and breath of the oil leak. Again, he supported us and walked us through all the negative details of the excavation and further soil sampling in a way that made us feel less stressed about the situation. He explained we would have to wait for a few weeks to see if more had to be done on the property from the state of NJ. Alan called my husband a few days later on a weekend because he obtained the news early to let us know that "no further action will be needed" from our site. Again, Alan Wysmuller cares about his clients and supported us through the whole process. Bottom line?.Marksmen Enterprises operates from a standard of excellence, is transparent from a business perspective, and has a top reputation in their field of work which from our view as homeowners was paramount!!!!

A few months ago we decided to have an old, empty (had been pumped out when we changed to gas heat) heating oil tank removed from our property. Not knowing anything about this, we decided to use Angie's List to find someone others had used, had a good rating, and was approved by the State for this kind of job. We chose Marksmen Enterprises. We live over an hour away from them and were happy they would take on the job. On the day they came to remove the tank they explained everything to us. If the tank was intact it would be removed and that would be the end of it. If there were any holes in the tank and it was leaking, that was a bigger problem and soil remediation would be necessary. Well there were several small holes in the tank, which also had water in it, and apparently whatever was left in the tank, did leak into the ground. Samples were sent to the State which came back above the allowed level which meant we had to do soil remediation. We had the remediation done and again they explained everything to us. Both of us were hoping there wasn't going to be a problem with groundwater, as there sometimes can be. There wasn't. Samples were again sent to the State and we were informed that they were fine and the job is done. From the first phone call made to Marksmen Enterprises, to the guys who did the excavation work, and thoughout the whole process of what removing a heating oil tank involves, we dealt with the most professional, experienced, personable people you could ever hope to deal with. Allan, our Project Manager, who did his best to keep us calm, was wonderful to work with. He handled everything. We were always provided with written, detailed cost estimates, as necessary. Everything was always explained to us in detail, and he could always be reached at the office or on his call phone, if needed. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone!

Short and sweet: these guys were fantastic. Responsive and patient re a variety of ignorant/anxious homeowner questions. Prompt and courteous through the entire process, even with homeowner on-site all day for the work itself. The crew were all highly experienced and knowledgeable. The excavation process itself, a thing of professional precision / artistry to behold. Great care taken to do as little damage to the surrounding lawn/landscaping as possible. Price was absolutely competitive w/ other bids, a little lower, in fact, and I had the sense (and this was confirmed by past users who I called for reference) that there was, as a company philosophy, always an awareness & consideration regarding cost for the customer. Though I hope never to have to use them again, I would without hesitation, and recommend them enthusiastically and without reservation. -Dan C., Montclair, NJ

Marksmen Enterprises, LLC is a company of professionals that helped us make the best out of an unfortunate situation. To begin: about a year ago, my husband and I began receiving letters from our insurance company advising of all the potential dangers associated with leaking underground oil storage tanks. Having bought our house in 2010 with a "certified decommissioned" (we have all the official paperwork) underground oil storage tank, we figured we were safe and protected...AND WE WERE SO WRONG! For anyone about to buy a home, a word to the wise: do NOT buy a house if it has a UHOT, in use or decommissioned. We learned too late that they ALL leak and cause EXPENSIVE environmental damage. Fortunately, we had Marksmen Enterprises to help us navigate through this difficult situation. In May of 2013, we decided to have our decommissioned UHOT removed. From the very beginning, Marksmen was informative and patient: Diane helped guide us through the process, explained costs and procedures, and scheduled when the work would commence (it should be noted that, after obtaining several estimates, Marksmen was the most cost effective company as well). When Bryan and Steve came out to remove the UHOT, they were professional and courteous, explaining how the work would proceed. Then, our worst fears were realized: upon uncovering the UHOT, we discovered the tank had leaked. Bryan was so patient in explaining that, while they would remove the leaking tank and dispose of it properly, there would need to be more work done at a later date to clean up the polluted soil from our property. We were put in contact with Marksmen's project manager, Allan, whose calm demeanor kept us at ease while explaining the soil remediation process. The soil remediation took place a few months later (August 2013), but this was not the fault of Marksmen, rather, the delay was a result of the ineffective and incompetent work of our (soon to be former) insurance company; to keep it brief, lawyers had to get involved. In any event, Marksmen did a terrific job with the soil remediation: they took care of all the paperwork, coordinating inspectors, carefully removing and properly disposing of the contaminated soil, and filling the area with clean soil, and laying new grass seed. Glenn, Bryan, and the rest of the team were courteous, informative (they answered all my questions, of which there were many!), and meticulous in their work. They were so wonderful, I baked them cookies! We hope that no one ever has to experience the problems we had at our home, but are so grateful to Marksmen Enterprises, LLC (and to Angie's List, of course!) for all their help and expertise. We highly recommend them should anyone need this type of work completed.

I was very pleased with their responsiveness and professionalism, the thorough and accurate (honest) onsite estimation, and all throughout the job completion. One crew came in advance to install the new above ground tank and did an excellent job. Jeff and his helper did great work. Even though they originally arrived with the incorrect type of tank, they were happy to return the same day and finish the job taking their time to do everything right and neat. When another crew came the next day to remove the underground tank they also were very professional and careful of my property. Josh was a master at unearthing and cleaning this huge oil tank. He finished the job waiting for the town inspector to arrive, and when done you would never know that a backhoe was through the yard and an underground tank had been removed. I would highly recommend Marksmen to anyone needing this type of work.

So, after Hurricane Sandy our "sealed - not in use" oil tank in our crawlspace was compromised with water causing a bit of residual oil to leak from the tank. It was obvious that we had to have it removed and cleaned. From the very start I had a good feeling about Marksmen Enterprises. We decided that we would hire this company to do the work and boy am I glad we did. We were scheduled quickly, the tank was cut and removed from the crawl space and taken out through a small opening in our crawl space (that in itself was impressive). The area was thouroughly cleaned and you would never think that a 275 gallon tank was ever there -- Josh did a great job!! Because there was an "oil leak" the soil had to be tested and a"Remedial Investigation/Action report had to be generated and submitted to the DEP, which Marksmen also composed. I had several converstions and email correspondence with Allan and Steve from the office and they always responded quickly and efficiently. I have nothing but good things to say about Marksmen Enterprises. I recommended them to my neighbor across the street and she also had her tank removed by them. If you are looking for a company that does great work and follows through to the end -- Marksmen Enterprises LLC is the way to go!!

After I switched homeowners insurance companies, an inspector came to my home and said there was a leak in our above ground oil tank. I called Marksmen after finding them here on Angie's list, and someone came out almost immediately to check the tank. From that moment on, the customer service was wonderful. Everyone from the office staff to the repair technician was professional and really seemed to care about helping me get my problem fixed in a timely matter. I received a detailed estimate via e-mail, which was very accurate to the actual price. The office staff was friendly and took time to listen and answer my questions. The technician completed the repairs in the quoted time and took care of all necessary permits. I can't recommend this company enough! If you have an oil tank repair need, call this company! You will not be disappointed!

1. Selected Marksmen based on their grade on Angie's List 2. On February 28, 2013, called Marksmen, describe the situation and they e-mailed & US mailed an estimate for the work. 3. On March 6th "Jeff" from Marksmen inspects the tank to confirm the described. Removal scheduled for March 20th. 4. There was a delay while the municipality issued a permit for the work. 5. On April 11th, Jeff and an assistant removed the tank and left it in the backyard for the inspector to check. 6. On the following day, the inspector verified the removal and conditioned approval based on obtaining documents from Marksmen for the proper disposal of the tank and the sludge. 7. On April 15th, Marksmen returned and removed the tank from the backyard. 8. On April 19th, Marksmen forwarded the needed documents to the municipality and received the approval. 9. Marksmen forwarded the approval to me on the same day via e-mail and US Mail. Marksmen was prompt, responsive to my inquiries, clean and thorough with the work performed, and exact to their estimate. I would highly recommend!

During the process of trying to sell our childhood home, after our mother passed, we were informed that we had leaking underground oil tanks. There were two of them, each of them was 550 gallons. About a year prior, we had received test results that indicated that the tanks were sound. However, a prospective buyer ordered his own test through a company he "knew" and that test failed. He wanted both tanks pulled and replaced. He also asked for many other changes to the property that were "recommended" by the company he had hired. Before we could respond, that company fired off a letter to the NJ Department of Environmental Protection stating that they had "discovered" an oil discharge. The prospective buyer then used that as leverage to try to get the price of the house reduced. We refused. Still we had to get everything checked out and to meet NJDEP requirements. Angies List to the rescue. We used Angies List to find a company to handle the excavation of the two underground tanks and get them replaced with two above ground tanks. We also wanted the oil in the tanks transferred to the new installation. We wanted to find a reputable company and did not want to rely on the one the prospective buyer had so "helpfully" suggested. To help you understand how helpful Angies List is you need to know that both myself and my sister are no longer New Jersey residents. We live hours away from our childhood home so we really had little knowledge of what companies to trust. Researching Angies List provided us with a company that had an "A" rating from at least 12 satisfied customers. That company was Marksmen Enterprises LLC at 144 Main Street Andover, New Jersey. Having read many horror stories about leaking underground oil tanks in various publications, we were both very apprehensive but we knew that we had to do something. We called Marksmen. The person who answered the phone was Diane Raftery. She listened to our story and was immediately reassuring. She told us that she would have someone come to mom?s house to take a look and that the company would then submit an estimate of the work to be done. We agreed and we also agreed to the estimate. Given all of the work that had to be done we considered it very fair. The actual work took two days to complete. First, Marksmen installed new above ground tanks in the basement and had the remaining usable oil in the old tanks transferred and the furnaces fired up. On the next scheduled day, with the help of the city they got the area cordoned off and proceeded with the excavation of the old underground tanks. My sister was present. As the first tank was opened, cleaned and then pulled from the ground, there was no trace of any oil discharge. Next the second tank went through the same procedure. It was much harder to get to as it was around the side of the house under a patio. Still the Marksmen crew did an excellent job in very tight quarters and got the tank out with no damage to surrounding structures. Again, there was no discharge. The matter would have been over then and there, even the city inspector said so, but there was still the matter of the letter that had been sent to NJDEP. So Marksmen drew additional soil samples for testing. As expected the tests were negative. We were informed that because a case file had been opened, due to the incident report by that first company, that we had to have a ?No Discharge? report filed with the state. Marksmen was there for us through the entire process and their employee, Allan Wysmuller, helped us get the matter resolved with New Jersey resulting in a case closed ruling. In all of its dealings with us, Marksmen Enterprises and its representatives were helpful, supportive and professional. We have no reservations whatsoever in giving them our highest recommendation. Just hire them. We have grave suspicions about the other company. We think that they might have actually spiked the samples. So our recommendation to anyone reading this is be sure that you choose a reputable company.

The speed and precision of the process exceeded my expectations and their care in minimizing disturbance to our property was much better than expected.
Description of Work: Marksmen Enterprises excavated, disconnected, opened & cleaned a 25 year old in-ground heating oil tank (550 gallons). They arranged and coordinated observation of the process with our insurance company (ProGuard) and the city representative; and pulled the tank out of the ground in their presence. No leaks were detected and the hole was back-filled with clean sand and topped with soil. Marksmen arranged for all of the required permits within two weeks of signing the contract and provided technicians who are State trained and certified experts in tank removal. The technicians were careful to minimize disturbance to our property (very little damage to our yard even though it rained during the extraction) and completed the delicate extraction in one half day. They worked in a space constrained by a porch located at one end of the tank and an in-ground sprinkling valve station at the other end of the oil tank, with no damage to either. The backhoe operator (Josh) is a master of precision excavation; he was even able to use the backhoe to unscrew the "frozen" elbow connection of the vent pipe with surgical precision (needed to allow them to cut the tank open for cleaning). They removed all of the tank materials and the residual fuel oil (which is sent to a recycling center), back-filled the hole and tamped the disturbed grass, leaving a remarkably undisturbed site.

The most responsive of all the companies I called in terms of receiving an estimate. Not the lowest estimate received by 12.5 percent but certainly reasonable. They came when promised and the work appears to be good. Very pleasant office staff. All paperwork provided via PDF files, which was convenient. Overall, very good and I would recommend.
Description of Work: A large white pine stump was removed and the hole was filled with dirt and quarry process along the edge of a driveway that needed to be stabilized.

We got some approved contractor excavation recommendation's from our oil company and our insurance company, but with a project with a potential size of this we knew we couldn't just trust it to anyone so we turned to Angie's List. We found several of the recommendations on Angie's, but with no real reviews to speak of or with C's and below...then we saw Marksmen and they had 8 reviews all with A's! We contacted called the ProGuard and asked if they were an approved contractor and they said yes, but they may not come down to our area because they were in north Jersey and we were by the shore so we needed to call them - which we did and they said yes. **************** **************** First I want to say we were in panic mode, anyone who has an in-ground oil tank knows the potential for and EPA disaster...their old, can rot and leak..bringing the EPA down on you for hazardous ground clean up. The picture in our head was we now had 17 days (13 business days) to organize this project in the middle of winter, frozen ground, 6" wooden fencing to be moved, brick walkway on top of the tank...along with bushes and rail posts that also needed to be moved - not to mention coordinating with the town, insurance company and excavator. To say the least, we felt very overwhelmed. **************** *************** The first person we spoke to at Marksmen was Dianne and in 10 minutes time she took us from panic mode to comfort mode. They got our information and walked us through everything to expect. They said they would order the town permits, schedule the fire inspector, organize the timing with ProGuard (they needed to witness and inspect), move the fencing, walkway, bushes, remove and recycle tank, then put everything back in place. All we had to do is schedule some time for Jesse (he was assigned the project) so he could look at the job and price it, and second, choose between two dates.....that's it! I have to say, I was staring across the room as Dianne was finishing our plan, waiting for some bad news shoe to drop, but nothing! I am so pleased to say our first contact for Marksmen, Dianne, turned our scary emergency into a cake walk. **************** **************** Jesse and Nick arrived for the project on time at 8am in the morning and they finished on schedule around 1pm - moving walks, fencing, plants, oil tank, worked with insurance agent and inspector then put everything back together perfectly. Jesse and Nick were the best at helping us feel comfortable with what was going on, I can't express how great it feels to go through a project like this and come out stress free - and the price was right! Now as a pay it forward, my father-in-law called this morning for Marksmen information because they have a friend......and that's how Angie works! **************** **************** Thank you to Angie and the Marksmen team for being there for us because honestly we've forgotten what it was like to work with caring professional companies.
Description of Work: On December 17, 2012 our furnace was being cleaned for yearly maintenance, but the person doing the work snapped the copper pipe going through the garage foundation wall from the furnace in the garage to the in-ground oil tank outside. Because the pipe couldn't be replaced and we were in the middle of winter and holiday season we were put into an emergency oil tank replacement mode. ************* ************* Our oil company installed an above ground replacement tank and advised us we needed to start the process of removing the in-ground tank as soon as possible, but because it was the holidays, we still had oil in the in-ground tank and we were still in the process of obtaining township permit approvals for the new tank, we thought we had plenty of time to remove the tank - it turns out we were wrong. ************* ************* On January 30 we got a call from ProGuard, the company who insured our tank against leakage, and they said we had only 60 days from the time the tank became inactive to remove it from the ground or they would not cover any problems incurred from the removal. This left us with approx. 18 days to find a contractor we felt safe and comfortable to help us in what now had become urgent - someone we felt wouldn't capitalize on our emergency as their gain. If there had been a leak in the tank and we lost our insurance we could have been liable for 10's of thousands of dollars in EPA cleanup costs. ************* ************* Angie to the rescue!!

We talked mostly with Diane and Jeff: they are the reason we went with the company. Their professionalism, attention to our needs and ability to confidently and intelligently answer our questions was impressive. Our home is an extremely busy one, Jeff and Diane were great with following-up with us, without being over-bearing and while maintaining their professionalism. When Jeff and Johnny showed up, ON TIME, to do the work, they got right down to business and completed the job in no time. Their removal of our oil tank and lines, patching of cement in/outside of our home and their clean-up was an A+ job. I would happily recommend Marksmen to friends, family and folks on Angies List!
Description of Work: When our furnace failed, and oil backed up into the furnace we decided it was time to get rid of the oil furnace and tank in our home. We interviewed a few companies and went with Marksmen for the oil tank removal.

I couldn't be happier. From the office staff to the crew who performed the work they were completely professional, priced fairly, responsive to questions, and patient with me. They showed up on time, worked quickly and efficiently, and when things didn't go as planned, through no fault of theirs, they kept me apprised of the situation and gave me my options. They went above and beyond and even took photos and wrote a statement for me regarding the improper decommissioning by the previous owner. They came in slightly under budget and I felt the price was more than fair. I was very impressed by everyone I dealt with at Marksmen and would not hesitate to recommend them in the future.

Marksmen was prompt, responsive and professional from my first telephone call to the removal. It was not a big job, and Marksmen priced it accordingly. Overall, I was very satisfied with the work done.

They are excellent. They do not use high pressure tactics but do follow up to see if we would like to have the work done. They are very honest and professional. Their estimate covered every parameter we could think of. It was much more thorough than the other estimates we received.
