He had the soil brought in by truckloads, graded the yard, and put the seeds down on a day torrential rain was forecast. I was concerned that most of the seeds would be washed away but he swore the grass would grow okay because of the way he had seeded the yard. A few months later some grass had sprouted but most of the yard was bare and it was painfully obvious there was a major problem with lawn installation. Initially he told me that I shouldn't worry; he wouldn't leave me high and dry; that he'd be back to take care of any problems. He did come back once when I called and let him know how upset I was about how the grass was coming in, but when he looked at the grass he said that as far as he was concerned it was coming in just fine, that it was exactly where it should be in the growth process at that point. I didn't argue with him, but I knew it wasn't true and I knew by his response that he wasn't planning on rectifying the problem. That was last summer and my yard still looks the same now, one year later. I tried reseeding the yard three times myself since that time without any luck. I still don't have the lawn I paid him for, and I can't even grow grass. The problem is, I've since discovered, he did not put down enough soil. There are places on the worst side of the yard where I can actually see the sand he put down first, and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize grass won't grow in sand. I wrote him a three page letter this spring with photographs of the yard. I explained the whole situation to him, I told him about the problems with the soil, and I let him know how very angry and upset I was about the work he had done for me. I knew if he was an honorable, ethical person that I would hear from him, but of course I never did. As far as I'm concerned, he may know how to mow a lawn and take down a tree, but he does not know how to install a lawn and he does not know how to run a business. He's a crook who took $4,150 of my money and did not provide what I paid him for.
