Description of Work: We hired John for external painting to start out with to pass our VA inspection - price was high but after negotiating we got it down to something reasonable. I then hired him to do interior painting of a multi-family home (upstairs and downstairs unit). The price he quoted me to do the interior was $2500. This was broken down into $1500 for downstairs and $1000 upstairs. Upon starting and after I provided him with $1200 to get materials and get started - John came to me on day 2 complaining about amount of paint and time it was taking him to coat the rooms. He was working solo on a holiday weekend but I see that as his fault and not mine. He could've started later and could've ensured his crew's availability. The kicker is when he came to me for more money because he under-estimated the coatings and claimed it was miscommunication that he didn't know he had to do ceilings, trim and doors - what painter doesn't realize this when you say paint everything. He stated that he wouldn't be able to do the job for the original quote of $2500 but could do it for $3300 (upstairs and downstairs unit)...I reluctantly agreed and asked him to carry on. The walls were one color and the trim and ceilings were a different color. On day 3 or 4 John (got his brother to help at $300 a day) came to me again complaining about coatings and paint not taking, etc...he expressed concern that he just wasn't going to make this work - at this time, I told him to take the upstairs unit out of scope of the job - we would negotiate the costs at the end. John made the assumption that he was then doing the downstairs unit for the original $3300. He carried on and continued the job much to his dismay. I walked the house with him on day 4 and expressed my concern around the ceilings not being done to the quality he and I discussed. He complained about coatings and that he'd need more money for more paint - I was very discouraged at this point because I was leaving to head to Virginia for work - I provided him with $250 to get more paint - again John assumed this was on top of the original price.

Description of Work: I had a baby and John came extremely promptly with his help and built and amazing addition to my home that included a nursery and play room!!! Love it! Painted the interior for me and everything!
