Description of Work: They didn't do anything because it was not a job he wanted to do. It was too small and instead of referring us to people he knew could help he just flat out refused and said sorry. Twice...once with our roof and the other with the kitchen.

I met DeCosta through Angies List when looking to have wood rot fixed on new NH Condo. He came out to my place with his son and spent the whole time talking about the poor construction of my unit, how there shouldn't be a shelf skirt, bossing/bullying his son around (laughing about it) and generally over talking me and not listening. He was high energy and excited telling me all the "great things" he could do to fix the wood rot on the trim boards plus the siding boards underneath that had rotted. He told me he would dig out the sill, fill it back in, and cut horizontally the bottom of the (vertical siding), place a horizontal board in the new empty space. Then put new trim board on it to keep with the complex's architecture. He then described how he could build a slope board to make sure water didn't collect on top and cause the problem again. I (tried though again he didn't really listen to me only himself) to show him pictures of other units in the complex and how theirs were some what different and would allow for me not to have a trim board using his idea of cutting the bottom of the vertical siding and filling it in with a horizontal board. Through all of his boasting he told me how great the price would be and in a time period that I needed. I got really excited. He sent me a very general quote that I accepted as we had a verbal agreement and I sent in my 50% deposit. He then told me when he would start. During the process he sent me one email - showing me a picture of one thing he could change. I declined. I never heard from him again until he was finished. I communicated with him when my schedule would allow for me to travel up (4 days after I received final invoice, because it was Columbus Weekend and my daughter was in a soccer tournament that I coach and we made the finals) to see the completed work. When I arrived I was very unhappy with the work that had been performed. He put up new trim board but had never addressed the siding wood rot underneath that he told me he would. He just covered it up. So all he did was cut pressure treated board to size and replaced the old. Not a skilled job. I was able to put my phone up from the bottom and take pictures of the wood rot still present and a video of the final work. What can be seen in the video is that he skipped some of the boards for some reason and did others. He also put an all new flat shelf on top that I didn't have before - and had told me was poor architecture and the cause of my problem allowing water to puddle. He did not caulk to seal it and he did not paint (but left them behind for me) - which he had told me he might not paint depending on time. I was originally fine with that when I thought he would be spending time working on wood rot. Which he did not do. There is no way the time I was charged equaled the time it took him to do this non-skilled result that I got. So I had to caulk and paint it all myself. He and I talked shortly after I arrived and I expressed I was shocked and unhappy with the result and that I would need a day or two to think about what I had before talking to him next. It was at this point that he started hassling me. Calling me nearly every 3 hours and emailing me regularly during my work day until I would respond. When I talked with him he offered since I was unhappy to remove $200 off my final bill. I agreed and scheduled an online e-check through my bank to pay him. That was a Friday night. On Tuesday he again started hassling me that the check had not arrived yet. I emailed him to explain to him that the earliest the bank allowed payment was Wednesday (which was only 12 days after receiving the original final invoice) and he should have it no problem. In which I have bank record that it was paid on that day. 20 days later I receive a phone call and email from a Collection Agency that I had not paid him my (full) final bill and if not paid they would advise legal action for litigation. I immediately email them with documentation of our discussion that he agreed to remove $200 for my dissatisfaction in the final product and proof of communications with him and my final payment as agreed on time when I said I would. Now 30 days later I get ANOTHER letter from the same collection agency telling me that they are attempting to collect the $200 (that he verbally agreed to remove for my dissatisfaction) again threatening legal action. THIS NIGHTMARE WONT END. I was hustled by a fast talker and was verbally sold a bill of goods I never received. Shame on me. And for my pain I get hassled by him and now a collection agency. This treatment is completely unprofessional. I have never seen a business not have minimum Net 30 and much more than that before turning over to a collection agency. Forgetting of course the fact that I have paid on time (12 days from receipt of original final bill) and as agreed to of adjusted final payment, yet he continues to send them after me. Just more proof he does not live up to his word - not in the work he provided, not in compensation for services rendered. Shame on him. Stay away, far away.
Description of Work: replaced my wood rot trim boards and added a shelf skirt above it. No painting, etc.

Unfortunately, we cannot make everyone happy, (removed member name) seemed like a good person. After we met we proceeded to do the work that we had promised to do. Replacing the rot with pressure treated lumber ( the condos were in fact shoddy construction). When (removed member name) started criticizing the work I knew what was coming (he did not want to pay the balance). So after being told three time a check was on the way and not receiving it, we turned it over to a collection agency.

It was fast, easy, the price was outstanding and we feel like we will never be in trouble with Decosta Construction LLC. The roof was done in 3 days. It was beautiful and we were extremely happy with the new shingled roof and fixed ventilation. We also learned a lot about our mobile home, how it's built and other important information that we weren't aware of. Very personable, knowledgable and not just a fix and go. We had an unexpected sewer vent pipe break in the wall and it was immediately fixed. We are having a lot of other house work done by them and we have no doubt it will be done right. I am so glad I did my research and went with them, there seems to be nothing they can't do! Not to mention their pride in high quality workers and communication. We are very satisfied new home owners!

The owner, Dana came out (on time) looked over the work requested (new roof and soffits, relocate skylight, add a footer for the porch) and provided a quote. He told me I didn't need soffits, recommended a ridge vent and scheduled a date. The day he arrived, he changed his mind about moving the skylight (too much work) and wanted to remove it entirely. I wanted to keep it where it was if he didn't move it, so he left it there. He and his team tore down/replaced the roof in one day, telling me that the substructure was fine and that he would guarantee his work for the life of the shingles (20 years). That winter my porch roof began and quot;ice dammingand quot; (as did my roof over the living room). The damming over the porch caused water to back up and come pouring in across the ceiling and down the walls. When I called Dana (Friday morning) I got no response. When I called him again Friday evening, he said he couldn't get anyone out to me until Sunday. So I spent the next two days collecting over 10 gallons of water from my roof, the skylight and the walls. Long story short, when I asked Dana how he intended to fix the problem, he asked me for a credit card number before he'd schedule any work. This caused a disagreement between us as I felt that I should not have to pay to have this fixed, in fact he should not only fix the roof but fix the ceiling and the walls that were damaged. I've never heard from him since, except in responses to my BBB complaint about him. My only alternative is to sue. As I've investigated this issue further (not being an expert on roofing at the time) I've come to learn a couple of things: 1) If soffits were installed, the roof would not have heated up, thus melting the snow and causing ice damming - his recommendation to not install soffits was poor judgement. 2) He did not have a new flashing kit for the skylight (Velux) - since he didn't have a new flashing kit, he NEVER intended to move the skylight to begin with. But he waited until the day of construction to inform me that it was and quot;too much workand quot;, knowing that if he'd said no initially he probably would not have gotten the contract. Bottom line - Dana is a pleasant and agreeable person when he does initial consultation, and will agree to almost anything. The problem lies in and quot;backing up his workand quot; and the knowledge required to do a job properly. Throughout the job he spoke with me of a job he was doing with and quot;new constructionand quot;. In retrospect, it seems that all his stories were about and quot;newand quot; construction, which makes me think that if it isn't and quot;newand quot; he doesn't know how to repair it.

We are a accredited member of the Better Business Bureau because we agree to follow the guidelines they put forward for all businesses, this complaint was settled to the satisfaction of the BBB unfortunately as hard as we try, it is not possible to have 100% of our clients to be happy, however most all of our customers are satisfied and continue to use our services, I strongly suggest to confide in wide range of our references and decide on that outcome and not just one negative review, Thanks The Decosta Family
