I can not say enough about this company. Prior to contracting them we had a constant 2+ inches of rain in the basement every time it rained. They were very responsive during the quoting process, taking the time to work out the right solution with us. The techs showed up right on time every day, and left after cleaning up. Work is guaranteed for any future leaks and we have had not a drop of water since. I do use them every year for pump maintenance.
Description of Work: Basement Systems put an entire perimeter drain in my basement, cut in a number of "relief veins", covered all the walls and put in a whole house dehumidifier and two battery back-up sump pumps.

Overall, the work dramatically improved the quality of the spaces; however, they were not able to completely meet the goals of the project. The combination of vapor barrier and high efficiency dehumidifier was able to dramatically drop the humidity in the finished basement and the dirt crawlspace. Moreover, the vapor barrier provided a finished surface for the floor. We can now use that crawlspace for storage. The vents to the crawlspace under the addition were not adequate to bring the humidity in that space to reasonable levels. I was able to install a register van in one of the vent openings, though, to bring dry air from the dirt crawlspace over, and this decreased the humidity to a reasonable level. The main issue is that the drain installation did not go well. In, the dirt crawl space, there is rock ledge just below the surface of the soil in many places. As a result, there were not able to get the sump low enough to keep water from spilling over into the finished basement. After the installation, water was collecting in the sump, but then immediately spilling over since the dirt crawlspace is slightly raised, and the bottom of the sump pit ended up being almost at the level of the basement floor, and it really needed to be at least 10 inches below the basement floor. They tried using jack hammers to get the sump lower, but the rock ledge proved too hard. I had brought this up as a potential problem with the person who gave me the quote. He assured me that they would be able to put in the sump, although he was clearly wrong. The crew working the job was very professional, though. They realized there may be problem soon after they started the job, and they called in their supervisor for advice. And since they stopped work, we have been working on a plan of trying to reduce water seeping into the basement by fixing some exterior drainage issues, and considering introducing a second drain/sump in the finished basement should there continue to be water issues. I chose basement systems because I felt the company was fairly well run and they offered a plastic vapor barrier solution for covering a dirt crawlspace that seemed better and cheaper than a conrete-based solution that was going to be expensive and potentially prone to water/ water vapor seepage. I still stand by this assessment, and would recommend them for another job, although would suggest not trying to put a drain into a space with a significant amount of ledge.
Description of Work: Our basement is divided into three sections: a finished basement, a dirt crawlspace open to the finished basement, and a crawlspace with a concrete floor underneath an addition that is adjacent to the dirt crawlspace but separated from it by a cinderblock wall. Basement systems addressed issues with the dirt crawlspace being damp with water seeping into the finished basement section during heavy rains. They also addressed issues with all three spaces being excessively humid. The work consisted of installing a perimeter drain in the dirt crawlspace with a sump and pump; a plastic vapor barrier over the dirt crawlspace; a high efficiency dehumidifier in the dirt crawlspace; and a pair of vent openings between the two crawlspaces that are separated by a cinderblock wall.

The sales person was prompt to reply, answered all of my questions and gave me a fair estimate. After gathering all of my estimates, I decided to go with another company.Out of respect, I called the sales representative and told him even though I liked his system and estimate, I decided to go with another company and I would contact him if I needed work done in the future. A few hours later the sales representative called me back and questioned who I went with and why. I told him it was nothing he did, and a decision I made. However he kept pushing the issue which made me very uncomfortable. At that point i ended the conversation and told him I did not owe him any explanation.
Description of Work: No work was done. i only received an estimate.

Response from Basement Systems of New Hampshire Inc
Member, We at Basement Systems of NH want to sincerely apologize if anyone of our representatives came across as pushy, that is never our intention. After giving our estimate if the owner decides to go with a different company that is their business, we agree. However we like to know if there is anything we could have done so we can better help our customers in the future. Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Sincerely, Basement Systems of New Hampshire, Inc.

BSNH did exactly as the said they would. They showed up Friday morning and were able to complete the work in 4 hours. Cleaned up well after themselves and explained the work that was done. Their main office followed up quickly with a survey and wanted to ensure that the work was done to my satisfaction. We had gotten a few estimates for the work but BSNH had the most experience and the quality of their work seems very high. They are much more expensive than some of the other companies out there but with a lifetime warranty I'm willing to pay for quality work.
Description of Work: Easy to get in touch with. Booked an onsite review of the basement cracks and estimate of work needed+cost. We had them on a Friday and they committed to coming out the following week to do the job. I thought this was great due to it being the 4th of July holiday weekend. The work they were to do was fill 2 vertical cracks in the wall with their system. I really liked the fact that the work came with a lifetime warranty.

They did the work when I was not here but I think the job was okay. I have used them more than once and the last time the thing that bothered me was that they did most of the work from the outside. They had promised me they would do minimal damage to my landscaping but without my knowledge they pretty much ripped up all the landscaping. They did a good job solving the problem I had since there is nobody else around here that would do the job I needed so there is no competition.

I like that they make all of their products in the US, and the speed and efficiency they got the job done. I disliked that I had to correct them on a couple things..they were going to put up the wrong wall lining and an incorrect door. But they were very, very good for the most part. The quality was definitely an A.

Two men spent two days jack hammering through the concrete and into rock ledge to create a pit for the sump. They then installed the sump including a pump and concreted around the new sump. They did a neat job and removed all of the concrete and rock that came out of the pit.

Last year we decided to have our basement refinished so we reached out to Basement Systems of New Hampshire Inc for help with this project. The team at Basement Systems of New Hampshire Inc did a fair job with this project. I did have a few issues with the communication that the team at Basement Systems of New Hampshire Inc displayed. Initially the sales rep told me that we could do the project within certain perimeters however when the contractor came out some changes had to be made. The team at Basement Systems of New Hampshire Inc ended up making good on most of the promises they gave us initially but overall the project was kind of a hassle and did not turn out the way I expected it. There is only a 50% chance I would use them again in the future.

It went well. They were prompt and neat. We got record rains a week or so after the installation and we got some water due to an old french drain that was previously put in by earlier owners. They came back and helped us figure it out and came up with a cost effective solution. I've been happy with their service.

We had received an estimate from another company where the interaction did not go well. The sales rep from Basement Systems of NH responded promptly, gave us an extimate and then worked with us to reduce the price based on our dialogue with competitors and internet search references. The Basement Systems office staff are familiar with the concept of competitive pricing without compromising quality. That was a mutual goal. We checked Basement Systems on the internet and called the corporate offices in Ct. All interactions were totally professional. Every question I asked was answered and I had quite a few considering the price. Since the work is literally guaranteed for 25 years except for the pump motor (but they offer annual service which we will gladly take), we wanted to know what happens under varying scenarios. The headquarters, Basement Systems and another franchise in Vermont gave the exact same professional answers. The work itself was completed professionally and promptly. Not only do they do the work, but they make sure to remove all debris. We're looking forward to a clean, dry crawl space in the future. Nobody in southwest NH does this work. We wanted it handled by professionals that would ensure permanent success.
Description of Work: Created interior drains around and through the middle of a 450 sq ft crawl space, installed sump pump with battery backup, encapsulated the crawl space and build 50 ft of drainage away from the house for the sump pump. We had water in the crawl space from the record snow this winter, an a neighboring property owner's cutting down 78 acres of trees, some on higher ground than our land.

They did an excellent job. They did a really good job with listening to me to make sure that they were doing what I actually needed. They were not just trying to sell the system. They took hours taking circumstances into account. They worked with me to make sure what was really going to be the best solution for me personally which wasn’t necessarily typical of what other home owners might need. I would use them again in the future.

The work crew arrived on schedule, worked quickly, efficiently, and professionally. Prior to beginning the job, the crew foreman explained what work was going to be done and answered my questions fully. They began their work promptly and seemed to have little difficulty completing the job. They did a great job cleaning up and took care to keep the dust out of the living area of my house. After completing the job, the foreman explained the system fully to me. The price was a bit steep, but after hearing the pump go on (quietly) 3 or 4 times this morning, I would think it was worthwhile. I would recommend this company.

We signed up the proposal in May 2010 for the job to be done on August 25. On August 24, the representative called to ask to postpone the job till the next week. The job was to take one day for a crew of 3. Only two people showed up. By about 3 p.m., they told me that they had forgotten to bring the battery and back up pump and some pipe for the exterior piping. No apology for forcing me to be there away from work the next day for them to come back to finish the job. I think that it was inexcusable poor planning/organization on their part, first to have to reschedule one day before a job already booked 3 months in advance, and to come to the site not prepared properly. My feeling is that they had been over-subscribed with too many jobs lined up; I hired them on their reputation but being popular can seriously hurt your performance and that is why I can not give them a higher rating. Note also that under the section 'quality', the real evaluation will come when water comes in my basement!
Description of Work: To install a sump pump system in my basement. They installed 42' of their WaterGuard perimeter system along the back wall of my basement to channel the possible infiltrating water to the sump pump. I also purchased the battery back-up pump to supplement their AC-operated M53 Super Sump pump. They also installed 20' of piping outside the house under the grass to channel the water away from the house basement. This job, which should have taken one day ended up spilling on the next day (see below).

Great. Surprisingly clean, no dust anywhere, the project was done in 2 days. Very effective results. You really can't see the drains when they're done. Well worth the money -- I wish I had done this years ago. This company wasn't the least expensive of the 3 companies I interviewed, but their technology was the best and it was worth the few extra hundred dollars.

We got a very minimal response from the company, they simply stated we "must have gotten a bad box", and feel they should take this very seriously, or other customers could be very financially hurt if their product is as bad as the sample we saw. They have not called us with concerns, or any further questions. We did ask for other customer names and phone numbers as references, and after 6 weeks (and 3 calls to the company) finally did get one name and number! We wondered why it was so hard to get references, and we are only left to guess why. Since we had the tiles peeling off, we never did call the one reference they gave us.
Description of Work: We were going to use them to install their flooring product in our entire basement remodel. The gigantic issue was the tiling product!!!!! The salesperson (Tim), left us (thank goodness) with 6 tiles so we could show our general contractor, and he could level the concrete floor in prep for the laying of the tiles. Before our contractor could see the tiles, the tiles sat on the basement floor for 5 days, and I noticed some of them got a little ridge at the edge. I walked over to see if they had "unsnapped" (they are snapped together), and the glue had come off the tile, and it separated from the flooring platform piece of the same tile. In another 2 days, ALL of the tiles unglued off their flooring base!!! We called the company and told them of our concern, and they stated "you must have gotten a bad box". At what would have cost approximately $3200 ($8/tile and 400 sq. feet), this could have a big issue if we got other "bad boxes". As i said, we were definitely going to purchase this product, and now are very glad we saw what we did. We were told the product has 2 years of sales (it is a new product), and it appears to us they have more testing to do. Tim (the salesperson) was very good and considerate. Everything else seemed fine, it's just the product sample that we got was NO GOOD and we feel it is risky to pay so much for such a product.

The price was exactly what was quoted. The salesperson came to my home in a within the day and explained everything well. I believe the price was very fair compared to other companies. A team of two people came within two days of the initial appointment and were finished with the job in about six hours. They protected my furnace and water heater from any dust. Joe came to my house & looked at the basement. He described what he usually does & explained some additional options. I asked if we could do it a slightly different way- he was very receptive. He provided advanced warning that the portion under the stairs would require the shelves to be removed along with some of the stair treads; he also mentioned that the treads wouldn't be reinstalled as well as if a carpenter had done it (as it turned out, they didn't have to remove the treads & I removed the shelves in advance). The guys completed the work in 2 days. They alerted me of a field change & provided me with choices. There was very little disruption. They cleaned up after they were done. At the end, Tom explained to me what they installed & allowed me to ask questions. They were recommended to me by a neighbor. I would also recommend them to anyone.
