When it was time to buy the flooring for our log cabin vacation home, we chose to get the floors from Budget Lumber on recommendation from our builder. Budget advertised the floors for $1.99 per square foot, but when with was time to purchase (only a few days later), they price was suddenly $2.79 per square foot. There was no clear explanation on Budget's part for the price change, just some shady "measurement" reason. We ordered the flooring anyway because we simply wanted to get the job done, and to make matters worse, Budget was unable to get the right amount of flooring to us. We waited about 3 months before we had all the flooring. Then, it was time for our countertops and sink in the kitchen. We were hesitant to use Budget again, but they were able to give us a good price on the counters and the sink, so we went ahead. The countertops were fine and actually turned out very well. However, we ordered a new stainless steel sink to be installed in our kitchen. We had used Budget Lumber for our countertops, and were satisfied, so we felt we could use them for the sink as well. Since we were not present when the sink was delivered (as we live 400 miles away), we had no idea they gave us the wrong sink. It was installed, and we did not notice that it was the wrong sink until we came back to the house a couple weeks later. Not only was the sink the wrong size, but it was also of very cheap quality. We realized that we could have gotten a better sink, for less money, at one of the "large retailers" but chose Budget Lumber because we wanted to give the "local guy" a shot. When we called Buget to try to have the issue resolved, the owner refused to replace the sink, and even though they admitted the problem was their mistake, and they confirmed that they gave us the wrong sink, they were still unwilling to replace it. They told us that since the sink was already installed and we had used it a few times, they were not going to take responsibility. What was our choice? Were we not supposed to use the sink at all while we were there? Were we supposed to go completely without a sink in our kitchen? We barely used it, and left it in almost new condition - they should replace the sink, as it was their fault we got the wrong sink in the first place. We will not be using Budget Lumber again, and we are going to advise our builder not to use them as well. We are very dissatisfied with the flooring and sink situations.
