It went very well. They gave us the lowest estimate and made the best impression when we were getting estimates (see my review on this). Although the work took a day or two longer than first anticipated, the overall cost was significantly less than the estimate. Dave also gave us a and quot;rule of thumband quot; to follow to estimate the cost on day 2 and that wound up being a good estimate with some wiggle room. So there were only pleasant surprises with the cost of the work. Even the bill didn't arrive for a couple weeks following completion of the work. They showed up on time each day, even though there was an October blizzard (!) and power outages in the area during the time they did the work. Jason and Shawn did most of the work most days and Dave came to check in and make sure things were going well (which they always were) and did wiring a couple days. All three were responsive to our questions and would double check to make sure they were doing exactly what we wanted done (e.g., where the outlet/light should go, what color plates to use). They were all very polite and professional, always cleaned up after themselves (I swear they left the place cleaner than they found it!), and graciously put up with our dog who kept trying to and quot;help.and quot; When they had to remove floorboards to get to ceiling lights in the floor below, they did a very careful job taking them up and putting them back in. It would be impossible to know the boards had been touched if I hadn't seen them removed myself. Each day, Jason gave us a comprehensive tour to show what had been done during the day. Dave had great ideas for future projects (there's a lot to be done in the house) and seemed to keep our budget in mind. We would/will definitely hire them for future electrical projects.
Description of Work: David, Jason, and Shawn removed all the knob and tube wiring from our 2 story, 1800 sq ft house and replaced it with modern wiring. They also added 2 outlets, moved another, moved a switch, and moved a light fixture. David also did a walkthrough with the local electrical inspector upon completion of the work.

David Booth came to check out the house in order to give an estimate for removing knob and tube wiring. I called and left a message at the office last week (he was on vacation, according to the answering machine) and he called me back first thing Monday morning (when he got back, also according to the answering machine). He arrived a few minutes early (2:55 v. 3pm) and was professional and personable throughout. He checked out the attic, basement, and walked through the house to get an idea of what the best options and worst case scenarios might be. He explained his thought process to us and said he would write up an estimate that includes both his hourly rate and how long he thinks the different options will take. He does not charge for estimates or for visits to produce an estimate. He didn't try to push us toward things we aren't interested in, although such services are offered by the company according to the website (e.g., generators, lighting design) and may be relevant for us later on. So I appreciated that he was listening to what we were asking for. We're getting other estimates from other companies later this week but, at this point, I'm hoping his estimate comes in at a reasonable level because he seemed honest and like he would be nice to work with.

I called later and asked him to call. When he did not call me for 2 weeks, I called again - I was not happy working with him, but did want to do the right thing, and offer to buy the parts from him. This was his email response: Email to me from David Booth, President of Exeter River Electric and Lighting Design: "I have been an electrician since 1979. And I have adopted a very simple business philosophy. #1) I do not work for any one that does not pay their bills. #2) I do not work for any one that I do not like. And I can say, after our phone conversation on June 30, that ended with you hanging up on me-you fall into category #2. Besides, you do not want me working of you, don't you remember, I'm very unprofessional. It's too bad, your roof top would have looked excellent after I finished with it. David S. Booth, President, Exeter River Electric"
Description of Work: I found David working on a neighbor's house. I asked him to give us an estimate for a number of projects inside and to install outdoor lighting on our roof deck. He submitted a written proposal 3 weeks later. I gave him verbal permission to start the project, and asked that he please order all the parts immediately so that we could get him scheduled to perform the work before a particular event that we were hosting. He said he'd order the parts and hope they came quickly, and booked us for the 2 days of work we required. The night before he was to come, I called him to reconfirm. Only then did he tell me he cancelled both days of work, claiming parts had not come yet. I asked him to come for at least one of the days promised and do the projects he had the parts for. He flatly said no, no apology, then he raised his voice and began to yell at me. I told him I was uncomfortable with the way he was treating me, and was no longer able to talk to him, and I ended our call.
