Distinctive Stoneworks

They did an amazing job. Really skilled Craftsmen. Came when they said they would, delivered the quaility they said they would. So HAPPY with the finished product.

Dennis and his crew were very respectful of us and our property. There was open communication between Dennis and us, and he came to the site every day to make sure we were satisfied with the project. The first day they started placing the stone three different people were doing it and it didn't look cohesive (too many small stones were clustered together in one area). We sent Dennis an email late that night and the next morning the stones were removed. (He had seen the mistake that night as well.) The crew showed up very early each morning, fully prepared to work, and picked up after themselves throughout the day. One of them suggested curving the little walkway onto the porch and it made the entrance look even more inviting. If we had another masonry project, we would definitely hire Distinctive Stoneworks to do it.

Distinctive Stoneworks was the first to respond to phone inquiries. The head of the company came to do an estimate, and give an assessment of how he would handle our outdoor stairs. His ideas most closely paralleled ours. He returned to take measurements, and then was on the job every day his crew was here (3 days). We thought his price was reasonable enough that we had him do the walkway as well. He has an efficient and skilled crew that were pleasant and respectful; even our neighbors commented on their demeanor. He told us everything they would be doing in advance, and kept us updated on their schedule and progress. The materials he chose with us are beautiful, and he added a few accommodations to meet our needs. He regularly sought our input and feedback. We are very pleased with the outcome.

We were not exactly sure we knew how extensive a job it would be to develop our 500 sq.ft. patio, but we did know what kind, style and color pavers we wanted. We had solicited five paver/patio installers and had quotes from all. The quotes ranged from $6K to $12K and after visiting and viewing previous of his jobs, we selected Distinctive. We replied to all other contractors and placed our order with Distinctive. Timing was somewhat important as we really wanted to have the job completed before July 28 for a scheduled 'Garden Party' with approximately 30 guests. The contractor said he felt they could (and did) comply. Two weeks later, the contractor and crew arrived and began working on excavation of a significant amount of material (our back yard) necessary to provide a solid and well drained base for the pavers. This work revealed that a 50' concrete retaining wall would need to be raised in height by 8" to provide necessary slope for drainage. The height was accomplished by addition of 8" cement blocks being applied to the entire length of wall, being held in place with cement and rebar rod to assure no separation between the original and new work. Then the process of building the base began with the bringing in of 30 yds of base material, spreading in small layers, with mechanical compaction between layers - seems they ran those compactors for four of the six days - always compacting and checking slopes. Finally the fine sand layers, more compacting, drainage checks and then the pavers - more compacting. Lastly, the poly sand was applied - more compacting. We elected to have the sealer applied after a couple of weeks after installation and that will be in August. The finished patio was more than we could have originally imagined! And while the extensive wall rework increased the cost by 7%, we feel the finished project was so much more than what we originally invisioned, it is worth it. As a related project, done in conjunction with the patio was the removal and reconstruction of a fieldstone cellerway which was badly deterioated. The demo was efficiently compled and waste materials hauled away. All being replaced by beautiful granite steps and included a small sump for collection of rain water disposal. And, as promised the contractor repaired the lawn areas disturbed by the heavy machinery and trucks as materials were trucked away and necessary new materials were delivered. In summary, we were/are completely satisfied with the materials and services provided and pleased that his work is guaranteed for five years - most of any contractors contacted.

The owner Dennis was punctual for the appointment for the estimate and I had the proposal within a day. The crew arrived early and they worked hard all day both days. The first day was excavation and putting the granite on the front step with stone veneer on the riser. The second day was laying the pavers, which to me, was like watching an artist work. My beautiful front step and walkway makes it look like a completely different house compared to what I bought. Everyone comments on how striking it is. They cleaned my yard before leaving better than how they found it! I would absolutely call Dennis again if I have any stone work.
