We had a bathroom remodel done by Charlie and had several major issues. The plumbing on the tub was not installed correctly which caused water damage to our kitchen ceiling the first time we used it. Charlie did "repair" it but it was poorly done. I ended up withholding the last payment of $400 to put towards hiring another contractor to repair correctly. The $400 did not cover the cost of the repair and the full ceiling repaint that was required. The tub that was installed squeaked since day one and has not been properly fixed. To have the tub re-installed correctly is would cost around $2,000-$2500 based on two quotes I got. Charlie's solution was to cut a whole in the bedroom closet wall to shim the tub. With all the issues we had I told him I would rather have some else repair it. He said he could fix it for free or give me $200 towards fixing it. The tub still squeaks two years later every time we use it. Almost 1.5 years after the bathroom remodel we found poor electrical wiring in the attic for the bathroom vent. Charlie did apologize and paid to have Custom Electric come and install it correctly. I am just glad we found the issue before it caused any damage. There are other smaller issues as well but you get the idea I went with Charlie and Granite State General Contractors based on all the great reviews and ended up with a lot of issues so please take this into consideration when making your decision.

We hired Charlie because he got great reviews and he looked like he had done some beautiful work. His estimate was also slightly lower than the other bids. We gave him half of the money as a down payment, so we could get started. We hired him as a general contractor, who would supply the plumbing and electrical work, as well as the carpentry. That never happened. Shortly after the project started, I ended up needing to find my own on very short notice. He gave us a BIG REDFLAG right away. He didn’t hid the plumbing in the ceiling hoist like he promised, and because of that he had to notch out my new main beam. He took out a support column, and replaced it with 2-2x10” compromised pieces of lumber that was supposed to support my whole house. Absolutely not. We made him re-install the support column that was supposed to not be there. So we lost some valueable space. Nothing went according to plan. He told us we would hopefully be done by Christmas, he didn’t wrap up until March. And there are still issues. Seams are popping out where the drywall meets and doors are not closing correctly. One wall is slightly bowed out. We gave him multiple opportunities to remedy his mistakes, but he couldn’t do it. He rushed through every patch job and left dust everywhere. WE have since decided to use a different contractor to fix our issues. Included is a photo of the “support beam” he put in. Please do not take the lowest bid. It rarely works out.

Work done professionally and cheerfully, despite the terrible winter, finish details excellent quality. I would highly recommend Granite State.
Description of Work: Charlie and his team finished my basement completely and put in an in-law apartment - total job about 700 square feet including moving washer and dryer and installing a bathroom and a small kitchenette. a new entrance where the bulkhead had been, price does not include cabinets, flooring, fixtures, which I picked out according to my aesthetics and budget. Charlie picked up and installed my choices. Price also includes some extra things I had added. (an extra window, an air conditioner window. ), and some changes I made during the project. I designed the basic layout, with advice, to maximize the things I wanted: as much daylight as possible, and a softer (cork) floor.

He did great, came out immediately, repaired everything immediately, he has sent out for a couple of bulbs. Everything that I thought was happening wasn't as he reassured me. I thought there was an issue with the garbage disposal, but it turns out it was a small screw that was in there.

I have already spoken with Charlie relative to some electrical issues on prior events. I know he must be busy because he usually gets right back to you. I have some fans that inside the sockets that are getting so hot, that it almost feels like they could catch fire. The garbage disposal he put in for us is fried, I don't think that it should be used becuase it has sparks and a rubber odor. I am leaving this review knowing that he will get back in touch with me.

Response from Granite State General Contractors
Dear Mr. [removed member name], I apologize for not being able to connect with you sooner. We had spokein the past that you may have installed lightbulbs that were too powerful for that light and I was unaware of any other issues. We take great pride in our and work and if there is any issues with the work that we performed, it will be corrected immediately.
I wanted to finish 900 sq. ft. of my basement for a and ldquo;man caveand rdquo; and wanted it done well. I obtained four contractors from the yellow pages who did home remodeling. After interviewing all four, I chose Granite State General Contractors based on my comfort level with the owner and his recommendations as to how to properly finish the basement to make it into a comfortable and attractive area. Mr. Caron's crew framed the basement, installed electrical outlets, switches and new circuit breakers to accommodate all electrical requirements for the basement. All work was done to local codes. Additionally, the crew installed insulation, hung sheetrock walls and ceiling, cleaned up after each day's work and then painted the finished part of the basement. The crew also installed in the unfinished part of my basement a nice 8' x 30and rdquo; work bench with shelving and wired outlets and overhead lights for times when I need a work area for small projects. Mr. Caron, the owner, and his crew were on time, courteous and friendly and the work was completed in the time frame that I wanted and at a very reasonable price. I was very satisfied with the work and when my wife wanted to hang crown molding in our master bedroom, living room and dining room, I called Mr. Caron for the 2nd project.

Mr. Caron had one of his men who specialized in hanging crown molding come out and install, caulk and paint the molding; completing the work very satisfactorily in less than 5 hours. I would highly recommend Granite State General Contractors for home remodeling projects.
