No work was performed. The contract has been cancelled. I was told I would receive a refund, and believe that they will honor their commitment to return my deposit and advance payments. I will update this report if they fail to do so.
Description of Work: In April of 2011, I contracted to replace a boat dock on the lake where my home is located. I selected Production Trailer and Dock to remove the damaged existing dock, and construct a new dock. This dock was needed due to weather damage (ice and wind). I was told that the work would be completed by Memorial Day (though we did not contractually agree to the date, I took the contractor at his word). As I have trouble walking, I was having siginificant work done to my property to permit me access to the waterfront, and the dock design we agree to was to provide me access to my dock and boat. I selected Production Trailer and Dock as the contractor seems concerned with my accessiblity requirements, and his bid was reasonable according to a friend and trusted landscaper that was coordinating the work on my behalf. I aslo saw that they had an acceptible review on Angie's list - the only company in the area that had been reviewed. Today, I terminated the contract with them. After nearly 10 weeks of excuses, absolutely no work has been done. The sales rep, Howard, admited that they had overbooked their work schedule. He told me that even though I had signed a contract early, and provided a deposit, they could not provide me a potential start date. He told me he'd understand if I looked elsewhere, but as it was already summer season at that point, no other contractors could begin work until August. After numerous delays, I was told I'd need permits (not included in the bid) , Told me he'd begin one week, then not show or call, or return phone calls. After weeks of delays, he sent a workman to take more measurements, and disassemble portions of my existing dock, and left it that way - making my access to the dock impossible. When I called about it, he returned the call, told me he'd be there that day to reassemble, and didn't come. More phonecalls and 3 days passed before anyone showed to fix the existing dock. The contractor that came for measurements, and to reassemble the dock were subcontractors, and both told me that Howard was a good guy, but overpromises customers. I've had plenty of contractors, including architects, builders, etc, and have never had an experience with any contractor that was worse than this. I understand and allow some leeway for delays, know cost overruns sometime happen, but have never had an experience this poor. I can only conclude that he either underbid the work, and realized he couldn't profit from the job, and stalled to get me to cancel, or that they are truly dishonest or horribly disorganized. I hope for the first - but fear that the latter might be true based on the poor communication and never ending missed promises.
