I live in Florida and the first sign of trouble is when Eric called me and said, "The windows suck. They don't fit." If you had any experience or watched the construction video you would know that there needs to be cutting of each opening to make the windows fit. Between mid August and the middle of October I didn't feel good about what was going on in NH. The window incident was just a small part of what was going on with my log kit. During that period Eric asked for more money indicating that it would speed things up. Little did I know, is that he was butchering my log home and was asking for more money to make sure he was way ahead. I traveled to the log home in mid October when I hadn't been in Nh since August. The first thing I observed pulling up to the property is that the big Probuilt sign that was highly visible was taken down when I pulled in. I'm no craftsman or builder but but I didn't feel good about what I saw on the construction site. The railings were cut wrong and installed in the wrong place. This was a very expensive mistake. Wall stiffeners were installed wrong, sofet boards were installed wrong on the front gable, the roof wasn't done, and it was raining extensively in the master bedroom. This was just a sampling of the poor craftsmanship I had observed. Eric seemed on edge and had an answer and an excuse for every objection. He was way ahead on the money at the time so I couldn't afford to excuse him from the job or not pay him the 11000 that I owed him. We had a huge discussion on what needed attention, and I financially had no choice to continue. I went back to Florida afraid and discusted, and the nighare continued. Reports were coming in that Eric wasn't on the job for at least two and a half weeks after I had overpaid him and hoped things would turn around. At that point I asked Coventry Log Homes for help and they agreed to send an employee to the site to do a report on the log home. It wasn't good. They commented on sloppy craftsmanship, mishandling of expensive building materials, and worst of all not following the plan provided by the manufacturer. I was horrified but my hands were tied. I gave Eric the report and insisted that he address the plan issues immediately. Eric insisted that he would and three weeks later nothing on the list was addressed. I think this was legal advice to avoid admitting fault. He should have been horrified and fixed it immediately, instead he pressed on with finish work. He continued with finish work to get to another payment point. At that point, there was only 4500 left on the contract. Eric was pleading with me to send the plumber 2000 when he had hired him and agreed to pay him. He was trying to create a payment history for what was about to come. To shorten up a long story I had a long talk with Eric Indicating how his 9 person crew had no experience with log homes, and had no business taking this job. He agreed over the phone and was semi-apologetic. This was in December with the house nowhere near done. We ended the phone call with Eric thinking about giving me some money to finish the house The 4500 left on the contract wasn't going to come close. Eric was talking 3500 when it took 25,000 to fix and finish. Again, all of the timetables and cost estimates were laughable. I got off the phone with Eric in Late December thinking he was going to try to make amends, and wow was I wrong. He left me an email demanding the remaining 4500 on the contract. His reasoning was that the house was at a point where it could be COd. The contract said the money was due once the house was COd. The house did not have a certificate of occupancy at the time. None of the plan issued had been addressed, water was raining into the master bedroom, water was pouring into the basement because the foundation wasn't flashed, it was 25000 away from fixing and finishing, and Eric was abandoning the project. He indicated that his lawyer was the best, and was confident if I went that route. I thought that he couldn't be in business without a great/shady lawyer. Anyway, I could go on and on about the time, money, and sleep, that Probuilt cost me, but I'm writing this to save the next victim. I forgot to mention that the plumber kept haunting me for money and threatening my house after I had already paid Eric for the plumber. The threat of a lean on my house is another long story. The bottom line is to spread the word to not go near Probuilt Custom Homes in Meredith NH. Eric is a master salesman and a criminal! I forgot to mention that Eric abandoned the job with three tons of frozen debris on the premesis. The debris was made up of construction materials, beer cans, and domestic trash. It took 2000 dollars just to remove the frozen mess. I'm college educated, financially stable, and was the biggest sucker in the world. My tendency to trust cost me 25000. I can't stress enough that cheapest isn't always best, and you can't trust anyone. They have years of knowing all the tricks and you don't! Again, spread the word. Stay away from lying Eric Trottier and his band of hacks. All of this ban be verified, by neighbors, contractors, and anyone else associated with that project. Be safe in your future endeavors.
Description of Work: Probuilt was contracted to build a 1600 square foot cabin at 72 Black Bear Rd Twin Mt NH. The deal was to take the cabin to a turn key point including interior and exterior painting. Eric aggressively sold his company as a do all veteran group of professionals, and that was far from the nightmare provided. I trusted Eric with large sums of money up front, and lost big. I was providing all the materials for the project, and Eric still demanded chunks of money beyond even what the contract stated. Eric is not a builder himself. He has a background in ground work, and decided to start a company with a band of outcasts.
