Roger the technician came exactly at the appointment time, we chatted a bit. As Skovron likes to send the same person each year, which I also like. They check the history of my services, and ask if everything is working as expected. Each year prior to hiring Skovron, I could count on the burner going out, and me having to call for emergency service. Since I switched to Skovron, which is now going on three years, I have yet to have the burner go out. (Always happened on the coldest day) They always take before and after pictures of the burner, and show them to me. The first year they came out, the cavity was full of soot. I asked if this was normal, and Roger gave a professional answer back. Sometimes the burner is used more due to a colder winter, etc.. But since Skovron has been servicing, the amount of soot does not compare. Kind of makes you wonder if the previous service company's actual did a thorough job?. I think not. Also, this last time we discussed upgrading the control board to digital, which was an additional $150 or so. I passed, saying lets wait to it goes out... no pressure to sell me something. Skovron attitude is to build a loyal customer base, which I have become. We also have a radiant heating system in our home, so I decided to have the percentage checked while Roger was here, found out well within tolerance, meaning no frozen pipes should we lose power in the winter. In conclusion, if you want good service, at a fair price, with qualified technician's, this is your company for HVAC services !

For the last three years, I was losing coolant out of the AC units, each year was getting worse, so this year I specifically asked the HVAC company to fix the leak. They managed to get 2 Service calls, the first call they were not prepared to spend the time to find the leak, only "Service" the units. They came back, and still could not find the leak. I'm not sure how motivated they were, since I was told it may be time to replace the "unit". A quote in the thousands of dollars, came in almost after I said I'd think about it. I then reached out to three HVAC service company's described the problem over the phone and said I may have to buy a new unit. The first company sent a salesman to spec out a unit, the second company listened but really only wanted to sell me a unit. While Skovron Mechanical, LISTENED, and said they doubted I needed a replacement, but it was likely a leak in the line somewhere. I said "I know that, but can you fix it? They described what the possible causes could be, the various remedy's, depending on what it was cost to fix it. Which was fine with me. I'm thinking a service charge is much cheaper than having to pay for the Freon every year! Plus the escaping of the gas into the air bothered me! We made the appointment, the service man arrived and proceeded with his procedures, 2 hours later he came in and said he couldn't find the leak either. During this time, I was constantly informed of what he was doing, since I have an engineering background I appreciated the updates. But 2 hours later, still no progress to a solution. I'm thinking this is like the movie "Money Pit". He started to disassemble the various lines from the unit, and heard a sound of escaping gas. Bingo, he discovered the leak it was in the valves of the connection assembly, called "shrader valves". Only when they were tightened down was the gas escaping, so when everyone was checking the lines it never involved the valves, hence couldn't find the leak. Bottom line is this company was persistent and focused in finding the problem. I suspect the problem has been resolved, will know for sure next year during the annual PM. It is a pleasure to do business with a company that focus's on customer service, and wants to do business the old fashioned way, by EARNING IT.
Description of Work: I had a recurring leak in my Home AC system, my "usual" source could not resolve and was more interested in selling me other services, and suggested a replacement AC unit, thousands of dollars they wanted. Skovron Mechanical listened to me about the issue and accepted the challenge. Knowing it may not be a simple fix, before starting they described in detail what they would do and the possible things it could be, and giving some idea what the cost could be to resolve. 2 1/2 hours later, they found the cause of the leak, a couple of parts fixed the problem.
