BEWARE! Poor installation, poor customer service and overpriced.

We actually just met with the rep and would never hire this company. We were given a price of $110K dollars to replace a roof, but would be able to use a discount the company was offering which would bring the price down to $88K! The estimate was totally outrageous and feel that we were thought of as unintelligent consumers. We had 2 other estimates from very reputable companies in the area and both were under $30K. The rep kept repeating how he had done his figures a few times and kept coming up with the same square footage for the roof each time. My husband manufactures storage sheds and had a good idea of how many bundles of shingles our roof would require. He deals with shingle companies on a daily basis and is very familiar with the current prices of shingles and the differences in quality between each brand and type of shingle. Basically this company was going to charge $100K per square to replace our roof! This is a totally outrageous price, but as we were told by the rep, this company does well and many people pay what we find is an incredible amount of money for roof replacement! We told him we wanted to replace our roof shingles not construct an addition to our home! When the reps presentation was over and the estimate given to us, my husband stood up and said to the rep" You've got to be kidding! I just wasted an hour and a half listening to you and you honestly think I would pay $100K to replace this roof! Just like that! The rep was quite upset we didn't even give it a second thought and he felt he wasted his time on us! It was a waste of time, and we would advise not to waste your time sitting through a presentation that is fruitless and just sets you up to feel obligated to deal with this company! We obviously cannot give a review on the quality of work this company does, but strongly advise doing research with other companies and obtaining other estimates to compare to this company before you make any decision.

Initial visit went very well, sales rep was informative and answered all our questions. Any contact we had we found everyone to be pleasant and helpful. We found the crew that installed our roof and gutters to be very polite and professional.

They did a great job! My roof was very old and shingles were coming off. They replaced it with the owens corning product and did a great job. They put on some gutters for free for me too! Installers were great. Office staff great too. I recommend them and would use again!

BUT - My deck and railings were damaged from shovels falling from the roof and the old roofing material being taken off the roof. They were sloppy cleaning up even when I told them to be extra careful of picking up the nails because I have a dog. We were promised that they would take care of it and in good faith we let their final payment go through as the roof was complete. I have been waiting for them to return. It's been since April and I have had to pursue them to repair the deck. After three months, I called and was told they lost the measurements of the stock they needed to repair the deck. They sent an employee down who argued with us as to where the damage was done on the deck. It wasn't until I showed him the pictures I sent to his office in April that he agreed to order the stock needed to repair the deck and railing. Still have not heard from them. It's been 4 weeks since there has been any communication. It only takes 3 weeks to order the stock for the deck.

I have no complaints regarding the workmanship, but rather with the way business is handled by the company. To begin with, their reps use hard sell tactics. If you don't like or are vulnerable to hard sells (they have an hour long presentation) steer clear. We chose them anyway, because of the 50yr warranty on material/workmanship. On the day they arrived to do the work, we were notified they had not been able to find replacements for our skylights. As our skylights are not urgent, it was fine, but when we spoke to our handler at ClearChoice, she tried to rush us into paying before we could adjust the loan to our new circumstances. We were told it would be "too difficult" to get the loan adjusted. When my husband contacted the bank they said it was no problem. I felt we should have been notified earlier, rather than the day they came to do the work. She offered my husband several excuses for this. All of them contradicted what the foreman had fairly told us regarding the lack of product availability. Overall, the workmanship is good. But for the price paid I don't want to deal with pushy, hard-sell tactics.

Job was complete in 2 days. Workers were very courteous and cleaned up at the end of both days. Window looks amazing and we are very pleased.

Work itself went well, and the cleanup afterwards was thorough. However, the dumpster sat in our driveway for several days after work was completed, in spite of several calls to the company. Today, 2 weeks after completion, we are still waiting for a receipt.

Overall happy with installers an company, however we have problems closing the windows. So far 5 different people in our family said the same thing. You need lots of strength to close it the last 1/2 inch so it can lock. Besides that... all ok.

The process took 2 hours where most of it was a "Kirby Vacuum" style presentation of their brand of window and subsequent negotiation. I had not set aside this much time and told the representative that I only had 1/2 hour after he had measured and inspected the windows to be replaced. I had expected to get a quote, not a sales pitch. The estimate was over $16,000 for 12 windows. With subsequent discounts it was nearly $14,000. This high estimate wouldn't have bothered me so much if I had not wasted so much of my time and had to get the sales pitch and negotiation of price part. I wish I had checked Angie's List first to see the many poor ratings. The representative used high ratings on Angie's List as a selling point, but the ratings on Angie's list do not support this. The representative was very pleasant and just trying to do his job. I am only posting this so that others won't get sucked into the "contest" being promoted at BJs. The poor grade for professionalism is not so much for the sales person as much as for the fake contest.

We had a great experience with this company. We will be turning to them in the spring for windows on our main home. Installers were wonderful and customer service was fantastic!

They were very expensive. The solution is a much better deal and they're professional. They call you a hundred times and they're just so annoying. The salesman was very nice but I think the company itself calls all the time. I even asked them if they have senior discounts and he said no but I saw that he's not telling the truth.

It went great! The sales person who came out was very personable and knew the products well. We received a call a few days after signing giving us the process and explaining the steps on how the job is done. Excellent communication, they were always there if I had any questions. Then the initial installation came along and that was much smoother than I thought it would be. Upon completion we received a follow up call asking if we had any questions or concerns but everything was excellent! I would say an overall excellent experience and would definitely use them again in the future. Would also recommend them to others!

I have to say the company did a fantastic job on my home. They replaced the roof with the Owens Corning roof system and they added gutters as well as gutter covers. I was impressed with their professionalism and felt they communicated throughout the entire process. The demonstration process that made me buy the products was very informative. They gave me a price right there and it was in line with what I had received from other companies. I likes their professionalism so I went with them. Their team of installers were great. Cleaned up after themselves, showed up on time and my home looks beautiful. Everything was explained to me during the process. A couple of times, I had to call the office and their customer service rep got back to me in a timely manner. I found it was easier to email back and forth. Overall, I found them to be professional and knowledgeable, and I am very happy with them as a company.

We signed the contract on August 23 2013 and they said that they would have it done by early fall. They do not start it until December 6 2013 and finished most of it by December 23 2013. They had one panel left on the side of the house and they said they would be back the next day so we paid Josh and they never came back until March 2014 after me calling them almost every day and ask when they were coming back at first they said they did not know anything about they siding not being finished. And then when I asked about the windows being finished it took them until April 2014 before they finished them. The reason they gave me was we have started another house so there was no one to finish it for us at the moment. I thought that was crazy why didn't they finish this before starting another house. They also broke a thermometer, shovel and 2 of the outside lights that we had, they borrowed my husband's step ladder and never put it back were they got it. They never cleaned up the yard. My husband is still finding nails and pieces of siding and shavings of they siding. We don't dare drive the car out back until he can find and pick up all the pieces that are still on the ground. They took off the back storm door one of the guys said that he could get us another one that we new we have not seen or heard from him, I have tried to call and leave a message but never hear back, so I guess we have to deal with that ourselves. If you are looking to sign with this company please get everything in writing and stay on top of them. I was suppose to make a recorded review on what they did but they have not even come back for that, I think that tells it all. PLEASE WATCH THEM CLOSELY AND STAY ON TOP OF THEM.

Unfortunately, on the first day, we received a different brand of windows (without our written consent) than was specified on the contract. (The correct brand of windows is now installed). The windows that were installed were not done correctly. The header expander was not used correctly and not insulated. Where insulation was installed around the windows high expansion spray foam was used, (instead of low expansion window and door foam), causing warping of the window casings and causing the foam to enter the inside of the home. The existing interior top trim was not cut to accommodate the new replacement window thickness. Most of the replacement window side adjusters were not properly tightened. Additionally, the siding subcontractors’ work was sub-standard. The work crew had to be closely supervised (by my wife, because the project manager was not on site on a daily basis). As the job dragged on the project manager became argumentative and defensive about many of our concerns, definitely not a “customer first” attitude. Most days the crew arrived late morning and left early afternoon. We also felt that some of the crew was disrespectful to my wife (now acting as a daily project manager). The installation of many of the exterior trim boards had either too many screws or holes on missed fastening attempts or not enough fasteners and screw caps. The siding was not completely joined in places, some of the j-channel is not level or plumb to the window trim and large gaps near the existing gable trim had to be filled with caulking, (which I had to purchase and install to prevent water infiltration behind the siding). Undersill edges were not used beneath the windows to secure the siding at these locations leaving the siding “floppy” and subject to water infiltration. The window sill wrap was being installed incorrectly (it was turned up in front of the window edge, blocking the weep hole, allowing water to collect inside the sill wrap) and had to be redone (fortunately, my wife was paying attention to detail. Again, where was the project manager?). It was also stated that the storm doors that were removed during the project would be reinstalled by Clear Choice (we instead provided new doors to install, which I ended up installing because rain was ruining the inside doors and floors and we could not wait any longer for Clear Choice to make good on their “promise”). The first Azek trim boards delivered to the site appeared to be old and “leftovers” from another job. We had to demand new material be used. Some of the existing soffit vents were carelessly damaged when removed and need to be replaced. The kitchen hood vent was removed and reinstalled but the duct work now does not mate together, therefore there is a gap inside the wall making for a potential fire hazard. (I ended up doing the replacement vent myself). So many things had to be done over, we can’t understand why they could not be done correctly in the first place. We are disappointed because we were promised so much (that did not occur). For instance the salesman stated the following: “we won’t damage your plants”; but they did, “the dumpster will be here for five days”; it was here for 24 days, “the window installers are experts”; we have photos to prove otherwise, “the work will be completed quickly”; it took 81 days from when the dumpster arrived to the finish, “we will clean up on a daily basis”; that did not happen (we did it, because we have a grandchild that visits and we found lots of nails and screws we would not want her stepping on), “all rotted wood will be replaced at no charge”; we had to insist on this as the workers were trying to cover it up, “we will insulate all weight pockets and window gaps”; we had to do some ourselves as the pockets either were not completely filled or just skipped (and we had to purchase the insulation). We certainly did not get what we had hoped for. Clear Choice was the highest estimate we received and we thought that “you get what you pay for” so we hired them thinking we will get the best….high price, high quality… but this project is a long way from meeting that adage. As a validation about these complaints, I have worked in construction and maintenance for over 30 years and thought I had seen it all, but this project takes the cake as the most frustrating, I have ever been involved with. In the end we got a job that was “good enough” but mainly because of our diligence and knowledge. We met in person with the owner to settle our contract and, after reviewing our extensive notes and pictures; he was apologetic about what we were put through and agreed with us on a reasonable discounted price. So, considering the amount of work we had to do, the stress we were put through, the time we provided supervising the subcontractors daily, and the materials we had to provide, we definitely cannot recommend Clear Choice Home Improvements for any type of work. Do not believe what their web site promises: “Timely”, “Quality”, “Insist on doing every job exactly right” as none of these statements are true.Do not be fooled by the BJ’s Warehouse and Wal-Mart references, they just rent the kiosk space and are not backed by either retail store. Clear Choice is NOT the clear choice.

It went well, they took the time to tarp the outside of the house before work began stripped the roof, put new plywood and reshingled the roof properly with the correct tar paper and ice and water shield and and seven months later there has been no leaks to speak of. when completed they picked up their mess and raked the whole area and came back the next day and did another sweep of the area for nails, and misc debris. when that was done they made sure we were satisfied.

The salesman, Ed, was pleasant to work with. He measured the amount of gutters to remove at 269 feet and originally recommended that only 200 feet of new gutter be installed at $24/foot. The original contract was for $4800.00. Later I decided to extend to 222 feet for $5550.00 or $25/foot. The plan was to use the old downspouts. After several delays, the installation team of two men finally arrived and were unable to remove the gutters because they were afraid that they would damage the fascia. I was thankful for their honesty. So the roofing guys came back to remove the gutters for $535.00. Unfortunately, the roofers removed most of the old downspouts and crushed them. So Ed quoted me $50 per new downspout. Because the removal of the old gutters left some unsightly holes in the fascia I decided to replace all the old gutters with new gutters. Ed, said that the additional 44 feet would be $1100.00. Originally a two man team came to install the gutters but were unable to finish the job in one day, no big deal. On the scheduled second day the team was a no show and didn't bother to call to inform us that they were not coming. When they finally arrived again about 3 weeks later, the team was now a one man team. The other installer had left the company. Ed, the salesman, had also left the company. Now Clear Choice increased the quote for the additional 44 feet to $1600 or $36.36/ft. They also wanted $275 for 4 new downspouts. Getting frustrated with the whole process I agreed just to finish the project. When the job was done, the installer had replaced 3 downspouts instead of 4. Giving that the quote for 4 downspouts was $275 I deducted $68.75 from the bill since only 3 were replaced. Clear Choice sent me an invoice for the remaining $68.75. I spoke with Kelly on the phone today about the bill for the downspouts but she would not make an adjustment on the bill. She stated that the amount of material used for the 3 new downspouts was the same as what they estimated it would take for 4 downspouts but they estimated incorrectly. She also said that they added 10 feet of extensions. I told her the extensions were not visible and that one of the downspouts just pointed straight down towards the ground at the base of my foundation. Originally Clear Choice wanted to credit me $300 for the gutter removal instead of the price charged to me by the roofers even though Clear Choice had originally agreed to credit me whatever the roofers were going to charge me. When I threatened to cut the job back to the original 222 feet of work they relented. During the last rain storm I noticed some water seeping between the new gutter and fascia but I'm too frustrated to have them come over again. Overall, I would NOT deal with this company again unless I absolutely had no choice. Two of the people I originally dealt with have left the company. I wonder what the turnover is at this company. Perhaps its employees are just as unhappy as I am.
