Kevin was responsive and professional. He gave me an honest estimate and attempted to fix my issue, and although it wasn't resolved, I felt his efforts were valuable to help me further diagnose what was needed to fully fix it. I would recommend others consider him for household handyman services. I've booked him to come back to my house to do more work (replacing a shed roof), so that should speak to his character, knowledge, and value even though my initial issue wasn't resolved.
Description of Work: Needed a minor job for my sump pump.

I knew the project would be costly. Mr. Percival would not discuss the project until he had made sure I knew the price range. I explained the remodeling I wanted in the bathroom. I told him I had the plans drawn up. I asked that he come out for a consultation. He was rude and challenging. He required a $75 consultation fee. I have had two other contractors come out for a free consultation, who had a much further drive, who were polite and courteous. We cannot go ahead with this type of remodeling without getting several estimates and finding someone reasonable to work with.
Description of Work: I wanted a consultation for a bathroom renovation.

Kevin was extremely prompt, professional, and gave me a fair price for the job. I was getting some other estimates as well and this took much longer than I anticipated due to a variety of factors, including some unanticipated absences on my part. Also, the job changed during the course of this time to include painting and some other things. I ultimately decided to go with another company based on a friend's recommendation but if it hadn't been for that I would have contracted Kevin if he was still available and interested in doing the new project as I was very impressed by his professionalism and his references. I would not hesitate to hire him in the future.
Description of Work: Kevin gave me an estimate for replacing trim and doing a few exterior repairs on the house.
I could not have been more pleased with Kevin's work from the moment we shook hands and agreed with a contract. The plans were drawn up professionally to be presented to the town building inspector. The removal of the old porch was done safely, and so efficiently that Kevin even credited me $1500 off of the price he quoted me on the removal, since he got it done in less time than he thought!!!!! Both of the subcontractors Kevin used, i.e, excavation for footings, and electrical were top notch and did a great job. The entire job was done within the specified time frame of about 1 month. The new bedroom windows that had been relocated look even better than the old windows looked! The extremely well built porch has increased the value and look of our home tremendously! I would highly recommend Kevin to anyone that is looking to have an addition built. I am so relieved to have found a contractor that I could trust and that was true to his word from start to finish. After having dealt with shady and unreliable contractors, Kevin and his crew are the real deal! I will definitely be using Kevin for all of my future projects!
Description of Work: I had hired, what turned out to be, a shady contractor that left me high and dry with an unfinished back porch addition that was not structurally sound and had a roof that was held up by 2x4 temporary posts. Kevin was very honest with me in pointing out all the reasons that the porch couldn't be salvaged since it was built incorrectly from the foundation all the way to the roof. He recommended a complete removal of the half constructed porch and to start over with completely new footings that would be designed to support the weight of the addition. Two second floor bedroom windows would need to be relocated onto the side of the house in order to allow the roof to have the proper pitch to withstand New Hampshire snow loads. The new porch will be completely enclosed with 2x6 insulated, sheet rocked walls, the ceiling will be sheets led and insulated as well. 6 double hung windows, a 7 foot slider, a small deck outside of the slider with stairs left and right of the deck down to the ground. Lighting would be recessed inside the porch and two flood lights and two walls once lights outside of the porch. Two ceiling fans for increased ventilation.

I am so glad I opted to have Kevin take care of a list of items that needed to be completed prior to other work I am having done in my home. Kevin understood I was up against deadlines and needed to have work completed within a certain time frame. He also undertstood I had a conservative budget and made very helpful suggestions with this information in mind. Kevin was very thorough during the "walk-through" and clearly explained what materials would be needed and what steps were necessary to do the job well. He was very focused and efficient with his use of time, which I appreciated. The estimated cost of the job was both reasonable and accurate. Most importantly, the job was very well done. I was more than happy with the end result! Kevin and the other two professionals brought in to assist with the job, Al and Josh, were top notch. Each was polite, professional, knowledgeable and hard working. I have nothing but good to say about the work that was done by Kevin and his team. I will be hiring Kevin again for future projects and highly recommend his services.

Kevin quickly responded to my phone call and came out to give a thorough diagnostic of what was causing the water damage to my house. The deck at the time was in very poor condition and had to be torn down to safely fix the damage to the house. He provided a quote for repair to the house and to rebuild the deck as requested. Through out the early stages I had many last second changes for the deck, and Kevin was very patient and accommodating with all the request. Kevin and his crew always arrived when they said they would be there, and performed all the work in a timely manner and with high quality. Kevin always stayed after a long days work to answer any questions and to show the progression of the project. Kevin went above and beyond on many occasions, offering advice on a few DIY projects and even helped me with those small projects when any other person would of been halfway home after working all day. If you are looking for a honest, hard working professional, who takes pride in what they do then look no further.

Kevin was very easy to work with, provided a written quote and communicated often. Work was done to professionally and with high quality. The thing to note are the little things he does above and beyond expectations such as sealing the ends of the siding with oil based primer. Overall exceeded expectations and will be hiring him again for additional work.

It went perfectly. The kitchen and bedroom look great. We are very pleased with the project Kevin took on in our home. I would highly recommend Kevin for repairs or other work.
Description of Work: Repaired water damage in kitchen which included putting up new sheet rock, repairing and painting ceiling and wall. Kevin and his associate were very respectful of our home and careful when doing the work. Repaired water damage area in wall and ceiling of bedroom as well as painted entire bedroom.
I have been looking for someone to take care of several small carpentry projects in my home for months. It is almost impossible to find someone who is professional, knows what they are doing, performs quality work and who doesn't over charge you for the small projects. After contacting several people on Home Advisor, local classifieds and names I got from local home improvement stores,I finally decided to bite the bullet and join Angie's List where I found Kevin Percival. Kevin responded quickly to my request to have 3 wooden interior doors replaced (or repaired). We had carpeting removed from our bedrooms last Summer, and replaced it with hardwood flooring, resulting in a large gap beneath the doors. I was trying to figure out the most cost effective way of dealing with the situation, considered adding a piece to the bottom of each door, or adding thresholds instead of having to replace them with new doors. Kevin was very helpful in discussing the pros and cons of each option. He came to my home to look at the existing doors and measure them, then he went to the store to see if he could find doors to match the style of the ones I had for 30 years. He was totally in tune to my desire to keep the integrity of my home. He listened. He pays attention to detail. Long story short, within just a few days, I have beautiful new doors that fit perfectly! His pricing was VERY reasonable. He was happy to do some other small projects for me while he was here, and charged me a fair price for those as well. His crew was very considerate and clean. I would highly recommend Percival Remodeling.
Description of Work: Installed interior doors and other miscellaneous carpentry projects
Kevin was very responsible and professional. He finished the work in a slightly longer time window as estimated, but did the job very well. At the end he took away all the trash and was very neat.
Description of Work: Installed curtain rods and put up some decorative paintings.
Kevin/ Percival Remodeling LLC is a busy contractor and I had to wait before he could start, but I had a large time parameter (before winter) and he met them. Kevin & I kept in touch during this time, so I was assured that he would get to my job within the agreed upon time frame. He gave me a "heads up" a week or so before he started. It went well! Kevin showed up when he said he would! The day he could not, he phoned. Sadly that, in itself, is so rare these days in my experience... Kevin is personable, but committed to getting the job done in a timely manner. He was willing to take on more jobs as they became necessary (I'm thinking of the bulkhead doors). I was also appreciative that he was willing to replace the insulation, so I did not have to find a different person to do that. I had an insurance adjuster look at the water damage before Kevin started, but It turned out that the damage was not covered by insurance, Without telling the adjuster anything first, the adjuster stated the cause and fix exactly as Kevin did. Then I showed the adjuster my contract and he said he thought the price was reasonable. Kevin is smart and knowledgeable about materials and how to do a job right with quality materials. He has a strong work ethic. There was an issue that came up before he could replace the front door. He had warned me that this was a possibility and would involve an additional cost. I had a set of pre-cast cement steps that would not budge in a manner that he had used with others, which involved rolling over posts. He made some phone calls and found out that only one company at a distance was willing to move the steps out of the way and then back again. He turned over the negotiation, scheduling, & paying the other company over to me and I was okay with this, as he continued to work. Setting this up with the other company, involved quite a few phone calls and taking photos of the steps (to convince them that they were pre-cast concrete) and photos of the house and power & other lines and emailing them to the company and even measuring how high power and other lines were (to convince them that their big truck with its large arm could fit and work in the yard. Kevin helped me with measuring the height of the lines.) Then Kevin took a couple of days hiatus until the other company with their big truck came with one operator/driver, who was nice and experienced and very precise. The moving of the steps went perfectly. Kevin came back the next week or so to install the door and the other work. I requested the same operator from the other company when it was time to move the front steps back in place and he replaced the steps perfectly... The steps cracking and becoming unusable was a possibility. I learned that to replace them with something similar would cost $1000. So I was grateful that part of this project went well. I would definitely hire Kevin/ Percival Remodeling LLC again when I have another carpentry or rremodeling issue! I would highly recommend!
Description of Work: I had damage to wood in the basement above the cement foundation under two exterior doors which also included some carpenter ant damage. Kevin Percival, the owner of Percival Remodeling LLC, replaced the two exterior doors. Before I discovered the damage, I had to have the insulation under my floor and under the ceiling of the basement crawl space removed because of a failed leaking water heater. So I needed it replaced after Kevin completed his work. Although out of the realm of carpentry & remodeling, Kevin agreed to do it & we agreed upon a price. Ditto also my bulkhead doors, which I had thought could wait until next year. But it broke twice while he was here, so he agreed to replace the doors on it for a good price.

It went great. We have been trying to get someone to do this work for us for 2 years. Contractors would come out, and we would get a price but when we tried to schedule the work we got ignored. His pricing was very close to the average quote we received. He scheduled us and was on time and did the work very timely. He cleaned up and we never would have known anything was done.
Description of Work: Replaced two doors, one leading to our garage and another outside door.
Kevin did wonderful work on both jobs. Our bedroom is better than new with the popcorn scraped off, sheetrock repaired, ceiling and walls completely repainted. He and his assistant did meticulous cleaning up. While Kevin was here to work on the ice dam damage, he pointed out that the sidelight of our exterior front door was rusting...it was steel....and should be replaced. We wanted to put this repair off for a year, but decided to go ahead with it. We are glad we did, because the sill under the door was rotted completely through. Again the work was done in a highly professional manner and all the debris was cleaned up. He also painted the door and made a special trip back to take care of a minor weather stripping problem. A special thank you to Kevin for noticing the door problem!
Description of Work: 1. Repaired ice dam damage in large bedroom. Scraped, primed, put in new drywall, painted with two coats. 2. Replaced exterior door and storm door.
Kevin is professional and polite. He kept me informed all along the way, and offered options and advice when appropriate. My house had needed repair for awhile and the back of my house, where the deck was attached, had especially rotted. I plan to hire Kevin again to build a new deck.
Description of Work: Replaced two outside doors - one with an additional storm door, replaced a patio slider door, demolished two decks, replaced facia boards in front and back of house, repaired lots of rot, re-sided back of house, etc.
I look for three things in my service providers - honesty, value, and quality. Kevin is all three. You know how you can just look someone in the eye and know that they're trustworthy and reliable? That's what I got with Kevin. He is a hardworking, family man that just wants to do a good job. He earned my respect because of that. He showed up when he said he would, and he finished the work he said he was going to finish. Kevin did not overcharge, he was absolutely fair in pricing the work. And he worked quickly. It took him one afternoon to repair the roofline and another afternoon to paint a good sized bedroom. It all looks fantastic. I'm very picky, and I didn't have a single complaint. He even cleaned up after himself. Kevin was in regular communication with me around scheduling and what we needed to prepare so that the work could go off without a hitch. We needed to involve my electric company since Kevin was repairing the roof line just where the power lines met the house. He knew enough to ask me to call my electric company to get the power lines wrapped, and when he needed to step in to provide more detail to the electric company, he did so without hesitation. I'm a happy customer and won't hesitate to reach out to him again.
Description of Work: Replaced rotting wood along roofline and painted bedroom.
I can't recommend Kevin higher. I am relatively adept at fixing stuff around the house, so when I hire a contractor, it is usually because I just don't have the time to do it myself. So, I expect them to live up to the quality that I would do myself. Kevin not only lived up to but surpassed it. PROS: - Great communication. He made sure we were both on the same page about what needed fixing and how it would be done. - Very fair price. No overages. Came in right on the estimate. - Excellent work. Everything looks fantastic. - Showed up when he said and got right to work - Worked very diligently - Cleaned up the work area at the end of each day - Very polite and conscientious of our home - This is his only job. It may sound odd, but other handymen we contacted said they could only work on weekends because they had a full time job during the week. And I think the best quality was his expertise. He offered some great advice on the materials we installed. He even helped me avoid costs when I asked him to replace a window and he told me that I could simply get it repaired at Portland Glass for a fraction of the cost. CONS: Truly none. I can't think of one thing that he did wrong or I was not happy about. Bottom line, Kevin is on my speed dial for any new projects around our house. I've used contractors over the years with a variety of results. Kevin is by far the best of the bunch. If you need his services, trust me, you can't do any better.

Kevin Percival is by far the best contractor I have ever dealt with. When he came out to quote the job, he spent a lot of time with me discussing options and costs. I couldn't afford to do all the work that needed to be done this year, so he helped me prioritize the work that should be done right away and the work that could be put off for another year. He kept me apprised of the materials order and when it came time to do the work, he and his crew showed up right on time, they were professional and courteous and did an awesome job! I was fortunate that the wood rot wasn't as bad as it COULD have been, and because it took Kevin a little less time to do the entire job, he volunteered to varnish the new sliding door, free of charge, which was not a part of the original scope of work. Now, he could have just done the job as promised and I would have never known that it took him less time than he anticipated, so I appreciate his honesty in giving me the extra to make sure I got the full job I paid for. Kevin is awesome. I'll hire him anytime I need carpentry and remodeling work done and I will recommend him to anybody I know who needs this kind of work done.
Description of Work: Installed a new sliding door, fixed rotted wood, replaced clapboards on back side of house.
I have an 1820 house that has seen many contractors over the past 4 years. Kevin is the only one I would call again. Kevin was extremely professional. He communicated very well, I knew when he would come and what he would do that day. He and Dave did a great job. They cleaned up after themselves and were respectful of my home. I highly recommend him.

We did not do business with Kevin.
Description of Work: I called Kevin for an estimate. He called back within two hours. That was positive. I explained the project briefly. He then insisted I give him exact dimensions of the project. I stated I did not have exact dimensions and that approximate dimensions were around 1200 square feet of deck, and that I would like him to come out to provide an estimate as the job was detailed. He stated he does not do business that way and not interested, and was very abrupt. I questioned that and I stated it was a large job (another estimate I received was for $42,000.) Kevin stated he did not care and he was too busy to give out estimates by reviewing the project at hand. Right off the bat it was poor customer relations. Made us feel as though we were not worth his efforts and he was too busy to do business with us. Knowing that these businesses are busy this time of year we were looking for work to be completed in the Fall. I didn't even get that far in my job description with Kevin. Unfortunately, we would not recommend this business to anyone else. The rudeness is a sign of what the working relationship would be like.

Response from Percival Remodeling LLC.
I never meant to be rude however I was never given a chance to clarify my response. Since it is a very busy time of year I could spend 30 hours a week doing free estimates. Everyone wants composite decking and composite railing however more often then not people don't look into what just the material costs. After I've spent time out on site and time putting together a material list I hear we can't afford that thank you anyway. Here it is from my point of view I ask for the dimensions of the deck so I can give a free estimate to see if people are serious about what they are asking for. This weeds out the people who haven't done their due diligence. After all lets say the job is within a 1/2 hour of my house that's a half an hour to and from and most site visits are an hour answering questions and measuring. then I have to come home and review my notes and make a material list to know what the job will take. This can take up to an hour depending on the size of job. So just one job I would have 1 hour travel time plus gas and about an hour of office work and consultation that I wouldn't be paid for. Now multiply that by 20 calls a week That is 40 hours of work that I won't be compensated for. Would you work for any length of time for free? Keep in mind I'm taking time away from my family and I'm using my vehicle and gas that costs my business money!!When my resources are in use and my time is in use to educate consumers on their options you are using my service and there in no reason why I should provide that for free. After all it is a businesses customers that pay its cost of operating so again there is no reason I should drive around and pass those costs on to consumers that use my service.
Very professional. We are pleased with his quality of work, approach and work ethics and have already talked to him about two other home improvement projects in future. He was very patient in letting us decide the paint color advising us of some pros and cons. Completely covered up non-work areas from dust. Cleaned up very well. He would not take final check until we were completely satisfied. Noticed a couple of small items that needed a re-fix. Came back a few days later to fix things he said he would. In paint jobs there will always be room for improvement. What matters and does not matter is a personal preference. When we reviewed his work, he did not make us feel that we are nit-picking when we pointed out certain things that mattered to us. He readily accepted them and fixed them. Just like anyone he may not have done everything in the past. He reads up and does his research on new variants before plunging in. We felt very safe to let Kevin and David work in our house. If it matter to you, he is a non-smoker.
